The history of Oral-B electric toothbrushes began in the 60s of the 20th century, when the first Oral-B Sonic sonic model was released. In the 80s, this brand teamed up with the German manufacturer of household appliances Braun, and since then they have been jointly producing modern, technologically advanced electric brushes that are popular all over the world.
Working principle and design of an electric toothbrush
The device allows you to effectively clean your teeth and eliminate plaque due to the work of bristles that perform rotational or vibrating movements. Structure of an electric toothbrush:
- replaceable head, due to which several people can use one brush at once; it is enough to simply change the cleaning head;
- head holder handle;
- handle with motor, control unit, compartment for power supply.
Electric toothbrushes are usually powered by a battery or battery. There are devices that operate from the network, but they are less mobile and inconvenient to use.
Advantages of electric brushes compared to conventional ones:
- reduces oral treatment time;
- provides more effective teeth cleaning;
- no need to put in much effort;
- a lot of attachments.
There are even separate models designed for cleaning children's teeth.
Innovations in oral care
Oral-B toothbrushes are associated with a whole series of innovative solutions in the field of oral hygiene. This brand was the first to release an oval-shaped brush in 1987 (all early models had a rectangular head) with an ergonomic handle that had finger ridges. The new Oral-B Ultra Plus model was better at removing plaque from hard-to-reach areas. In the 1990s, Oral-B toothbrushes introduced blue bristles as indicators. As the nozzle was used, the bristles gradually became discolored, thereby “telling” the user when it was time to replace the nozzle with a new one.
In 1991, the company released the first electric toothbrush with a round cleaning head that moved back and forth. The device perfectly removed plaque not only on the teeth, but also along the gum line. The effectiveness of the brush has been confirmed by clinical studies.
How to choose an electric toothbrush
Choosing a brush is a crucial moment, since the effect and level of cleaning of the oral cavity depends on it. The selection of an electric device for brushing teeth should be based on a number of criteria:
Modes | They can be of several types: daily cleaning, massage, whitening, regime for sensitive teeth. |
Head shape | It is desirable that it be round, which reduces the risk of injury to the mouth. It is recommended to choose a brush with a rough outside to clean your tongue. |
Size | The brush head for an adult varies between 18-35 mm, for a child - up to 22 mm. |
Rigidity | Soft bristles are suitable for people with sensitive teeth, medium bristles are suitable for others. |
Bristle material | Synthetic bristles are most often used. Natural bristles are used on brushes intended for people with allergies. |
Nozzles | It is recommended to choose a device with a removable head. If it becomes worn out or damaged, it is enough to buy a new nozzle, not a brush. |
Choose an electric toothbrush based on the additional functions you need: backlight, pressure sensor, head wear indicator, procedure duration timer.
Oral-B electric brushes are proven to be safe
During the existence of the brand, a huge number of clinical studies have been conducted confirming the effectiveness and safety of Oral-B electric brushes. The research base today includes over 250 works.
More than 25 years have passed since the release of a toothbrush with a reciprocating action and a round cleaning head, and during these years not a single negative effect of the Oral-B brush on health has been established.
Revolutionary teeth cleaning technologies
Over the next decades, the company developed and improved technology. The first toothbrush appeared, combining a brush and an irrigator. In 1998, a revolutionary model appeared on the market - an electric brush with 3D cleaning technology. She affected the teeth simultaneously using reciprocating and pulsating movements. The movement of the cleaning head in different directions made it possible to remove the most difficult plaque as efficiently as possible.
In new models, the manufacturer has improved this technology, increased the number of pulsations, and added a built-in timer. In 2007, the Oral-B Triumph brush appeared with a “smart” navigator, the display of which showed the selected mode, cleaning duration, charge level, and reminded that it was time to change the nozzle.
Why is this brand trusted?
Oral-B electric brushes have been well studied, tested by millions of users around the world, their effectiveness and safety are confirmed by clinical studies, and the range includes dozens of models for people of different ages. This is the secret of high user trust and popularity of Oral-B brushes.
Modern electric brushes of the Oral-B brand have become even more technologically advanced. They can connect to a smartphone and interact with a mobile application, have a sensor for determining the cleaning area, and high-quality batteries allow the device to operate uninterruptedly for up to two weeks.

Electric toothbrush Oral-B Vitality 3D white
Oral care for me is one of the primary and integral beauty procedures. And here, in the last few years, electric toothbrushes have become my real must-have. How much I was afraid of them before, now I can’t imagine life without this gadget! Now I have been using the Oral-B VITALITY 3D white electric toothbrush
- and I have something to say about her.
My previous brush ran on batteries, this one runs on a battery that needs to be recharged. The charger is included.
The manufacturer says that a full battery charge lasts for a week, but I still have to charge the brush twice a week - it doesn’t quite reach a full week. Unfortunately, I don’t have an outlet right next to the sink, so I have to walk back and forth with a charger and a brush.
But my friend has the same brush permanently living on a charging unit connected to the network (there is an outlet nearby) - of course, she doesn’t have any trouble at all.
A full charge lasts 16 hours.
This brush has a big plus that develops a useful habit - it is a timer. After two minutes, the brush will begin to signal that the time is up and you can stop brushing. Convenient - there is no temptation to brush your teeth quickly, for the sake of a show, to “get rid of it”, which I sometimes sinned before.
Why was there fear of these devices before?
The thing is that before my gums were characterized by severe bleeding. They weren’t sensitive, didn’t hurt, nothing like that - but regular brushing with even the softest toothbrushes led to them bleeding every morning and every evening... Electric brushes seemed to me like a hellish meat grinder that was supposed to turn my mouth into a bloody mess, but!
Unbelievable but true!
The first time I used an electric toothbrush was two years ago.
And for two years now I have not known such a problem as bleeding gums! Literally from the first use, I realized that this is not to force your gums. I still can’t get enough of it!
The brush is small and far away: it doesn’t injure my gums, but it cleans my teeth perfectly, getting into every crevice, even cleaning out my problematic and distant wisdom teeth from all sides.
The brush gets into all the spaces so much that I rarely use dental floss.
Again, when I first tried an electric brush, for the first time I felt my teeth SO clean, as if they had been polished)) Even if you brush your teeth once a day, the feeling of cleanliness lasts until the next brushing - plaque forms less actively.
Perhaps the only small negative that I could highlight is that replacement brush heads are not cheap, although if you convert their price into good regular brushes (which were not comparable to electric brushes anyway), then that’s about it.
I'm really ready to sing odes to this gadget. I got everyone I could get into using electric brushes - a young man, parents, brothers, sisters, friends. I was so delighted that, it seems to me, with the face of an Oriflame representative, I began to blurt out to everyone around me, “Have you tried these miracle brushes? Why not? Try it." But in the end they thanked me for it))
