The best manufacturers
Constant competition and the struggle for the position of leader in the power tool market force manufacturers to constantly improve their products and release new models to the market.
Taking into account the technical characteristics of specific models and user reviews, the best manufacturers of electric planers today are:
- Interskol;
- Makita;
- Bosh.
With blade width 110 mm
When the question arises of processing cubic meters of boards in a limited time, the planing width comes first in the planer: the larger it is, the faster the work will be completed. In the opinion of experts, the best models in this category are the models produced by SPEC, Enkor and Interskol.
SPEC BRU-840
pros
- power 840 W
- rotation speed up to 16,000 rpm.
- precise balancing
- overload protection
Minuses
- no permanent mount
- weak drive belts
- no start lock button
From 3,606 ₽
A household electric planer with a quarter cutting function of up to 12 mm and a planing depth of 2 mm has a reliable steel sole that is not adjustable in height. The strange length of the cable in the description, 0.0025 m, is in fact 2 m. The engine is protected from overloads, but its drive belts (the 2nd one in the set) break in many cases.
Enkor RE-1200/110E
pros
- planing depth 3 mm
- power 1,200 W
- constant speed
- overload protection
Minuses
- no chamfering grooves
From 5,428 ₽
This model is one of the most reliable on the market. Engine protection is provided by soft start, constant speed support when planing, a lock button and efficient air cooling. But the plane does not chamfer - this is its drawback.
Criteria for selecting electric planes for rating and review
Like any other tool, an electric plane must be reliable, easy to operate and maintain. In addition, have the following qualities:
- adjustable planing depth . The ease of use and quality of material processing depend on this parameter;
- high blade speed . Directly affects planing quality and productivity. The more revolutions the knife block makes, the better the quality of the processed surface;
- electric motor power . Creates additional operating comfort and increases work productivity.
Taking these factors into account, as well as analyzing reviews from real users and expert opinions, a rating of the best planes of 2021 was compiled.
How to use? Instructions for Beginners
There are no particular difficulties in operating an electric planer. The main thing is to remember a few important rules and follow them:
- check the tool to ensure it is ready for use, that it is not clogged, that the cable is not damaged;
- choose the right clothes so that nothing gets in the way, wear safety glasses, carefully secure wooden pieces;
- check and adjust, if necessary, the position of the front plate and cutting edge, install the knives.
If the tool is ready for work, you need to securely fix the wooden workpiece, connect the power cord, install the electric plane at the edge of the prepared material, gently pressing the start button to begin moving forward. To avoid damage to the wood, it is important to move the plane carefully, smoothly, with the same speed and force along the entire length, to prevent waste from getting under the sole or changing the angle of inclination of the unit. If the width of the wooden elements is greater than the planing width, the processing process should be repeated several times. This will ensure maximum precision and smoothness.

This plane can be used both as a hand tool and as a stationary jointer thanks to the presence of specialized fasteners.
The processing width of 110 mm allows you to process large workpieces in one pass, which will save you time.
High drum speeds and a powerful engine are designed to work with the hardest types of wood: oak, acacia, etc. The cost of this universal tool is 10 thousand rubles.
Advantages:
- Endurance;
- Manual and stationary 2-in-1 model;
- High engine power;
- Quarter sampling function.
Flaws:
- Heavy weight (7 kg);
- High noise level.
Rebit IE is ideal for long periods of work under load. But due to its heavy weight, it is better to use it as a stationary tool.

This model is not distinguished by a rich set of functions - everything here is only the most necessary: adjustment of the planing depth, quarter cutting and a V-shaped groove for chamfering. But the build quality, components and overall reliability of the Makita plane are, as always, at their best.
The tool can be used for a long time without overheating the power part. Its average cost is 15 thousand rubles.
Advantages:
- High-quality assembly;
- High processing accuracy;
- Long network cable (4 m);
- Long-term operation without overheating.
Flaws:
- Low engine power makes it difficult to process hard wood;
- Minimum set of functions.
Makita offers a reliable and durable electric planer for long-term use. But working with it on hard wood is still not recommended.

Thanks to its well-thought-out design, this powerful electric planer is suitable for both “fine” work and planing hard wood. The main feature of its design is the elongated cast aluminum sole, which allows you to maintain the straightness of the tool's movement.
There are also vibration-damping pads on the handle, although its design itself may not seem comfortable to everyone. But overall the plane turned out to be quite ergonomic.
Special thanks to the manufacturer should be said for the expanded package, which included: a parallel stop, a bag for collecting chips and an adapter for connecting to a vacuum cleaner. This did not particularly affect the price - the device can be purchased for 15,500 rubles.
Advantages:
- Light weight;
- High performance;
- Possibility of quarter sampling up to 25 mm;
- Ejection of sawdust in both directions;
- Expanded equipment.
Flaws:
- Lack of soft start;
- Maintaining speed under load is not implemented.
The D26500K is a worthy example of a functional and versatile tool that will be useful both in minor repairs and on serious construction projects. The only thing that somewhat limits the scope of its use is the relatively small width of the knives.
What is the difference between household and professional
Household and professional planes differ in several main parameters that affect the efficiency of work. These include:
electric motor power . Household planes are equipped with motors whose power ranges from 500 to 700 W, and professional ones - 1000 - 2000 W;
width of the supporting surface . The width of the surface processed in one pass depends on it. For household planes it reaches 82 mm, and for professional ones 170 mm.
Which brand of electric planer should I choose?
An important feature of modern production is the rational distribution of departments. This method of reducing the cost of work processes and reducing the cost of finished products reduces the importance of the assembly site. However, some other nuances should be taken into account when choosing a plane manufacturer:
- The year of foundation of BOSCH (1886) emphasizes the long-term experience of specialized activities. The planes created under this brand are distinguished by their durability and well-balanced performance characteristics.
- The well-known Japanese concern Makita offers a wide range of high-quality power tools for household and professional levels. A variety of accessories can complement the basic functions if necessary.
- The Russian company ZUBR specializes in the production and supply of mechanized tools. Significant advantages: developed dealer (service) network, official warranty extended to five years.
- Under the Hammer (Germany), high-quality electric planers are offered in retail chains. According to user reviews, individual models often take first positions in rating reviews.
- Metabo is a trademark of the German company Metabowerke GmbH (Nürtingen). The manufacturer quickly introduces new technologies and creates professional grade planes for use in intensive use conditions.
Which is better to buy for your home - our choice
Having assessed the technical characteristics of the models presented in the rating, as well as analyzing the opinions of experts and user reviews, our choice of the best household plane is Bort BFB-850-T . It is distinguished by high quality indicators, a powerful electric motor and an aluminum supporting surface with three V-shaped grooves.
How to work correctly?
Understanding how to operate an electric planer is not difficult. But first, it is important to study the instructions. After this, you need to see if the front of the plate is adjusted and if it is in the correct position. If not, it should be adjusted. You also need to check the installation of the knives so that they do not touch the sole.
If the tool is in order and you can start using it, you should not immediately start working, practicing on good boards necessary for high-quality, beautiful processing. At first, it is recommended to train on unnecessary materials that you don’t mind spoiling.
In order for the final result to be as good as possible, it is important to use the right lumber: dried, smooth. It should not contain protrusions, depressions, knots, cracks, chips, metal elements: staples, nails, screws and others.
