Cordless hammer drills differ in the functionality they contain.
There are three categories:
- Household . Rotary hammers of this type have a “starter” set of technical characteristics. They are used for home repairs or for simple industrial work. Such devices are light in weight and have a budget price (there are exceptions). Household hammer drills are easy to use and do not have complex settings that would confuse a beginner;
- Semi-professional . Devices from this group stand on the border between “home” hammer drills and hammer drills for craftsmen. They offer more options and are suitable for people who already have experience with the tool;
- Professional . Such models are designed to perform specialized repair and construction work. Often professional hammer drills are heavy, but this factor is not decisive. The devices are made of high-quality materials and are equipped with powerful batteries for long-term operation.
Household hammer drills are suitable for getting acquainted with this device. It is not advisable for a beginner to purchase a professional unit, as it can easily break it. You shouldn’t equate a household line with low quality. Among budget hammer drills there are decent and reliable models that are used even by masters of their craft.

BOSCH GBH 36 V-LI Plus 4.0Ah x2 L-BOXX Li-Ion 36 V
The model causes a lot of controversy, largely due to the characteristics declared by the manufacturer. The impact factor is 3.2 J. The company installed a 36 V battery, unlike competitors who prefer to use two smaller batteries. The price of the device is high, but it is only justified if the user has an additional battery. Outdated 18 V models are not useful here.
The first thing to note is the amazing ergonomics. The design is thought out to the smallest detail, making the device a pleasure to use, despite the stated weight of 4.5 kg. The back part has a rubberized pad and high-quality vibration protection. The power button is large and convenient. It is easy to press even when wearing construction gloves. The kit includes an SDS-Plus chuck that will allow you to drill a hole in concrete with a diameter of 2.8 cm. There is also a quick-release chuck that will allow you to work with metal and wooden products and workpieces.
Cost – 73,000 rubles.

The product has a proprietary brushless motor. It is convenient to use in hard-to-reach areas. Weight – 3.7 kg (excluding battery), so it won’t work for a long time and continuously. Your arms will get tired. Has increased power. The energy of a single impact is 3.5 Joules. Frequency – 4480 beats per minute. The equipment is stuffed with electronics, which allows you to regulate the speed and ensure smooth operation. When the drill jams, the motor automatically turns off, which guarantees complete safety for the master. Able to make 30mm holes in concrete and brick. When the motor is turned off, the LED lights up. There is an ideal anti-vibration system.
The average cost is 37,390 rubles.

Makita DHR-400/ZK
A convenient and very practical model with an impact force of 8 J. Belongs to the specialized category. Designed for chiseling and working with a drill. There is no hammerless drilling. Vibrations occur during operation, however, they are effectively damped. The length, height and weight can hardly be called compact. Scope of application and principle of operation
Hammer drills are needed to make holes in fragile and hard surfaces. These include brick, concrete, marble and so on. The essence of the work is crushing at the point of contact of the working element. The rotating device deepens the contact point and at the same time cleans the surface of crumbs. The process is called “drilling”, and the working element is usually called a “drill”.
Differs in the effectiveness of actions. It can handle brick and concrete, which can’t be said about a regular drill. The tool cannot handle metal, plastic and wood. A hammer drill and accuracy are, as a rule, incompatible concepts. Shock vibrations suggest the presence of dirt and dust.
Rotary hammers can both drill and operate in impact mode. To do this, be sure to install a special chisel, which helps break off pieces from the stone. Thus, gating of walls for laying electrical wiring is carried out using blows. The device is used to make recesses in the wall for socket boxes. To do this, the drill is replaced with a special crown. The device is able to replace a jackhammer when patching roads, dismantling metal structures and clearing space from layers of cement.
Rotary hammers operate in two or three modes:
- Impact drilling. Belongs to the category of standard operating modes. The equipment performs both rotating movements and translational impacts. Designed to work with hard but brittle material. Drills with carbide tips are used as a working tool.
- Strikes. Only chiseling. No torsion is expected. The function is identical to a jackhammer. An irreplaceable thing when carrying out fender manipulations. The equipment consists of chisels, peaks and blades.
- Impactless drilling. The functionality is similar to a regular drill. Performs the main task - making holes in metal or wood.
The three-mode unit is considered the best and most popular. New products are being released with additional functions, for example, with chisel rotation.
Lightweight tool
Hammers weighing no more than 3 kg: so-called “dowel rods”.
Ryobi R18SDS-L25S – a quality athlete for a fair price
For a light class, the price is unusually high. This is only at first glance. But a battery (2.5 Ah) with a charger is included, and a carrying bag to boot. Like the line of the more expensive Dewalt brand, Ryobi power tools are standardized on batteries. Drills, lawn mowers, grinders: for the entire arsenal, it is enough to have one set (battery + charger).
Advantages:
- Very comfortable handle with perfect weight distribution.
- There is a convenient option - fixing the rotation of the chuck in chiselling mode. That is, you turn the plane of the chisel at a convenient angle and secure it in this position.
- High speed of operation, especially on relatively “soft” materials.
- With a compact size, there is vibration protection for the handle.
Flaws:
- The issue of dust removal has not been resolved; it is very uncomfortable to work on the ceiling. There are no compatible dust collection devices.
- The second handle is missing. Despite the light weight of the product, sometimes it is necessary to hold it with both hands.
