It took Dyson sixteen years to create its first autonomous robot vacuum cleaner, the 360 Eye, that meets all the requirements and expectations. The history of the development of this model begins in 1978, when James Dyson began to notice a decrease in the efficiency of his vacuum cleaner due to the fact that the dust bag became clogged with dirt. This phenomenon, in turn, negatively affects the suction power of the device. In industrial conditions, this problem can be solved by using cyclone units. This principle became fundamental in the development of the Dyson 360 Eye robot vacuum cleaner. The resulting model has very high suction power, greater than that of robotic vacuum cleaners from other manufacturers, including the Airobot company, and also features an absolutely unique 360° viewing system. We have provided a more detailed review of the Dyson 360 Eye, its characteristics and main parameters below.
Design
It should be noted that the appearance of the 360 eye vacuum cleaner is very different from other robots on the market and may seem slightly futuristic. Available in two colors: fuchsia and blue.

The robot does not have additional side brushes, but instead has one main brush made of nylon-hydrocarbon material, located across the entire width of the bottom of the device. In addition, the vacuum cleaner is equipped with tank tracks instead of ordinary wheels used in numerous other models of robotic vacuum cleaners. This allows him to overcome obstacles with less difficulty.

The most powerful vacuum cleaner tested
We have already tested a Dyson floor vacuum cleaner. We also tested a handheld cordless vacuum cleaner. All devices have one thing in common: Dyson devices are among the household vacuum cleaners with the highest suction power of any on the market. The Dyson 360 Eye was no exception: figuratively speaking, where it passes, not even grass will grow.
Of course, you can sometimes continue to deal with serious dirt in your apartment using a regular vacuum cleaner, but for everyday cleaning it would be better to use this robot. On a hard surface of 300 grams of sand, he collected as much as 296 grams. Fantastic value, in fact. However, the remaining four grams are a bit more of a problem than it might seem at first.

Mini-cyclone technology with double suction power
As is typical for Dyson, the company's vacuum cleaner offers twice the suction power of its competitors. But this is yet to be verified and confirmed by researchers from the Chip test laboratory after appropriate tests.
The cyclone technology used by the Dyson device is known to us from other vacuum cleaners from this manufacturer. As with larger models, the intake air passes through two filters and returns cleaner to the environment.
Dyson 360 Eye: like older models, Dyson 360 Eye uses cyclonic technology
At the bottom of the robot is a universal Dyson brush for hard floors and carpets. The 360 Eye should capture dust as small as 0.5 microns and contain it in a 0.33 liter container.
As is typical for Dyson, the container is very easy to remove and empty. The crawler drive allows the robot to overcome door thresholds up to 2 centimeters high.
The battery capacity should be sufficient for operation for 45 minutes. When energy reserves decrease to 5%, 360 Eye automatically goes to the charging station and, after replenishing supplies, continues cleaning from the place where it left off before the recharging break.
Using the WLAN module, the vacuum cleaner connects to the Internet. Through the corresponding application, you can remotely start the robot, create a cleaning schedule for it, designate a route for movement, or refer to the help manual if any problems arise.
We are intrigued to see what the results of the practice test will be.

Functionality
Dyson 360 eye has an all-round viewing system: the robot vacuum cleaner has a built-in 360-degree panoramic “eye camera” that shoots at a frequency of more than twenty frames per second. In addition, the device has infrared sensors. These devices allow the Dyson robot to “see” the surrounding space of the room and build the optimal route of movement, without leaving uncleaned areas after its work.
360 degree camera
The Digital Motor V2 motor installed in the robot vacuum cleaner is lightweight and small in size, but very powerful: due to the use of pulse technology, its rotation speed can reach 78 thousand revolutions per minute. At the same time, the robot has a unique filtration technology. These parameters, namely the presence of a special cyclone technology in combination with a powerful and energy-efficient motor, provide the highest suction power, thanks to which Dyson separates dust from larger dirt and copes with the removal of the smallest particles of dirt and dust. This fact allows us to consider Dyson one of the most powerful robot vacuum cleaners.
The robot, having completed twenty minutes of cleaning (or forty-five minutes at maximum), returns to the base to recharge, and only after recharging for two hours does it continue its work. Such short working sessions of the device may not be very convenient when cleaning large areas, but when used in a small apartment or house, this time will be quite enough to ensure maximum cleanliness in the rooms.
Charging at the base
Main functions of the Dyson 360 eye robot vacuum cleaner:
- Possibility of remote control and programming of cleaning. Thanks to these functions, the vacuum cleaner is able to clean the home independently, without the need for the presence of the owners at home. You can start the floor cleaning process remotely using a mobile application for IOS and Android systems. The Dyson robot vacuum cleaner model does not have the ability to select a cleaning mode, but there is a function that allows programming of the cleaning schedule and algorithm.
- Obstacle recognition function when the device gets tangled in various objects, such as wires, clothes, curtains. In such situations, the vacuum cleaner stops, frees itself from the “captivity” of objects, and only then continues cleaning the room.
- Local cleaning, liquid collection and a dirt sensor help the Dyson 360 eye identify the dirtiest areas in your room and clean them more thoroughly.
There are useful additional features that can improve the operation of the device and provide its owner with simple and comfortable maintenance of the robot, including:
- option with connection of an electric brush;
- presence of a dust container full indicator;
- UV lamp;
- possibility of automatic cord rewinding;
- Shoulder strap for easy carrying.
Tank in the living room
At the same time, we are not talking about an isolated case. The already mentioned four grams that the robot left lying on the floor are a consequence of the device’s second problem: it does not have pollution sensors. If it passes over a place, it automatically considers it cleaned, unlike, for example, the Roomba 980 robot vacuum cleaner, which “in severe cases” increases the suction power or can do local cleaning of a particularly dirty space.
Otherwise, the navigation is a mix of good and bad. Due to its compact dimensions (24 centimeters), 360 Eye sneaks into even the smallest corners of the apartment. However, he has to capitulate to furniture with low legs: with his 12 centimeters in height, he does not fit where competitors are already busy cleaning. But thanks to its tracked wheels, it moves freely on almost any surface - even on light rugs that are very easy to fold.
Chairs with runners 2 centimeters high became an insurmountable obstacle for the robot - he simply hung on them and could not move. However, this also happens often with competitors. However, unlike Roomba or Botvac models, it does not turn off and call for help, but continues to rotate its tracks until the battery runs out.

User manual
Before using your robot vacuum cleaner, we strongly recommend that you read the user manual to become familiar with all of the Dyson's functions and how to care for it. You can download the Dyson 360 Eye instruction manual by clicking on the link: Dyson instruction manual.
The only problem is that the instructions provided are in English. However, today this problem is easily solved by using online translators.
You're missing something
The Dyson 360 Eye moves using infrared sensors and a 360-degree camera. It records the features of the apartment, with the help of which the robot can navigate. The web page dedicated to this device promises that thanks to the camera system, “the robot vacuum cleaner always knows where it is, where it has already been cleaned, and where it has not.”
These words correspond to reality only partially. Although the Dyson 360 Eye's navigation settings are very basic, it diligently navigates from room to room. However, he often runs into a wall or boundary strip and is unable to move away from it. The photos below will show you all the navigation problems identified during testing.

Alternative options
iRobot Roomba 980
Ingenious app, smart cleaning system and low height: Roomba 980 is the best all-rounder for your household. Even though this robot is more affordable than the Dyson 360 Eye, it is still very expensive.
Neato Botvac Connected
Neato's best device from last year is now offered at a great price: you can get this robot for just 569 euros. This is an excellent offer for a device that is only slightly inferior to the Roomba.
iRobot Roomba 681
This Roomba model is so new that we haven't even had time to test it, but it looks promising: the robot adapts intelligent controls to a premium device. So: no more battery-powered navigation elements on the door frames. And all this at an attractive price.
