From “ordinary” smartphones with IP67 protection to a professional device with a thermal imager, we have collected the most interesting gadgets from different price segments. Read our article and find out which gadgets are better protected and which are more profitable to buy in the USA than in Russia.
Rugged smartphones have quietly become an everyday occurrence. Externally, they are not at all different from models that are not resistant to the external environment. But only 10 years have passed since Motorola introduced the Defy rugged smartphone, which could not boast of outstanding reliability, but at the same time looked like a device for use in industrial facilities.
Motorola Defy
We decided to compare the capabilities and prices of smartphones protected from water and dust. Some models are available in Russia at a fair price. Some models are presented in Russia, but buying them in the USA is much more profitable. Finally, some smartphones can only be purchased in America. If you want to buy gadgets in the USA at a good price, then you can deliver them to Russia through Parcel. iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB
At the time of writing, this is the very best smartphone in the entire Apple line.
It can hardly be called new, because in appearance and in many characteristics the 11 Pro Max resembles or even copies the previous Xs Max. At the same time, the smartphone received a lot of new things.
So, it now has a triple main camera - all three modules have a resolution of 12 MP. A new night mode has appeared, with which the quality of photography at night and in the twilight has significantly increased. There is fast and wireless charging, and the powerful processor sets various records in synthetic tests.

Telephone and sea
Review and testing of several models of protective covers The time for summer holidays is long over. But many people prefer to vacation in the fall, especially since there are plenty of offers, prices are a little lower, and the local weather makes them ready to fly to warmer climes. And if active rest is very useful for the body, then mobile phones and smartphones may not treat it very well: water, sand, dirt, falls and other similar conditions are strictly contraindicated for most of them.
There may be several solutions to this problem. Firstly, you can simply leave your phone at home, although, of course, being left without communication (camera, maps, flashlight, movies, music, books, etc.) will not be very convenient for a modern person. The second option is to use special secure phones (like this one recently described on our website). The disadvantage in this case will be a significantly smaller selection of models, their less interesting characteristics and, possibly, additional steps for data synchronization.
The third, more universal way is to use special cases for your smartphones. They can be designed to provide different levels of protection - from scratches, dirt, drops, splashes to complete immersion in water. For a trip to the sea, it is perhaps advisable to choose the maximum option, since it is this option that will allow you to deal freely not only with light rain, but also literally get wet to the skin and even take a swim.
In this material we will look at some models of accessories for mobile devices that will allow you not to spoil them during outdoor activities and always be in touch.
Krusell SEaLABox Waterproof Case
At first glance, the package includes only a case, not even simple packaging. So, given the storage conditions in the warehouses of online stores that are not always clear, it is advisable to buy the case in the right place or check it when purchasing.
Upon closer inspection, inside the case itself there are instructions in several languages and a 44-centimeter nylon neck lanyard with a miniature carabiner. The length of the lace cannot be changed, so if you need something different (for a hand, for a belt, or with a large carabiner), you will have to look for the parts yourself. Considering that the cord is attached to the carabiner through an additional ring, it will not be difficult to assemble the required option. But in general, the ability to attach “to something” can be assessed positively.
The instructions look standard, but they are clearly missing some information, such as the maximum permissible depth and recommended cleaning agents (on the company's website you can find a mention of the IPX7 specification - 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter). She also does not give clear recommendations on how to open the case for the first time. In fact, everything is quite simple - you need to move two parts of the outer edging in different directions. After this, all that remains is to separate the two halves of the body part.
As is already clear from the description, the design of the case is quite simple. The basis is two plastic frames, on which silicone membranes are stretched, like soap film in magic performances. What's interesting is that in terms of transparency they are different. One of the halves, intended for the back of the device, is matte. Only in the upper left corner there is a transparent window, obviously necessary for the camera.
On the second element, a little more than half of the bottom part is also not transparent. The reason for this decision is difficult to understand. There is only one way to assemble the halves together. This is ensured by a system of grooves and protrusions. Along the contour between them there is also a silicone gasket, soldered into a plastic base, which provides the main property of the case - waterproofness. Note that during any assembly and disassembly, it is advisable to check the condition of this element and remove dirt, dust, etc. that interfere with tight contact.
But the two U-shaped parts of the frame are already the same. They are used to tightly compress the housing halves. Unfortunately, no additional latches are provided for these elements; they are held in place solely by friction. The problem is partially solved by installing a carabiner in the provided eyelet, but there is only one in the kit.
The design of the device, as has long been customary in this field, is protected by a patent. Note that the plastic used in the device can be of different colors, including bright orange, red and blue.
The manufacturer does not position the device specifically for a specific phone model. Only the maximum internal size is indicated - in our case, for the “Large” option it is 116x59x15 mm (the second option - “Extra Large” - has parameters of 129x68x16 mm). Moreover, if the first and second numbers are dictated by the internal size of the frame, then the thickness is given taking into account the possible stretching of the silicone membranes, and the case itself is only 11 mm. During a practical test, it turned out that the iPhone 3G feels quite good in the case, while the membranes are slightly deformed, the front film fits tightly to the surface of the screen, which ensures comfortable handling and good image quality. But the iPod Touch 3G already wobbles noticeably and is not very convenient to use, because there is space between the membrane and the screen. Overall the case fits well on the still quite popular iPhone 4. However, there is a slight play in the frames, and I would like to see the thickness of the cover literally 1-2 mm less. Installing devices that are larger than those indicated in the description is strictly contraindicated. If they are larger in width or height, then the frames are deformed and may not provide reliable contact. For example, HTC Desire with its 118 mm height can no longer be used with this case.
The most significant note that concerns use with most modern mobile devices concerns the blocking by the case of all controls located on the ends without exception. Specifically, with Apple models, you won't be able to adjust the volume or use the power button. With Android devices it is even more difficult - unlocking with the power button will be very difficult. You can, of course, try to “press” the frame of the case, but this is very inconvenient. This unpleasant moment can be considered its price for versatility and compactness. In addition, you will have to forget about charging and connecting a wired headset.
The second important point is the use of the touch screen. It is difficult to perform gestures on a device installed in a case, since the outer surface of the membrane prevents the finger from sliding freely. As for the image, it is generally visible well, but a not very clear solution with partial transparency of the front panel reduces readability. In addition, it is difficult to achieve a clean surface - the material used simply attracts dust and is not easy to remove.
Another design feature that you need to pay attention to is the possibility of damage to the membranes by sharp objects. Nothing bad happened during testing, but the material used does not seem to be immune to such damage.
The case does not have any special elements for transmitting the sound of the speaker and microphone, but you can still use the phone for conversations. Thin membranes transmit sound well in both directions. Of course, the sound is more dull, but making out speech is not a problem. On the technical side, there may be difficulties with some phone models due to their specific placement of speakers and microphone, but the phones we tested worked without any problems.
original size photos are available via the links
It's a similar story with the camera. If you are lucky and its window is in the right place, you will be able to take photographs both in the air and underwater with a slight loss of clarity and brightness due to the film. As a last resort, you can put the phone in the case on the other side, so that the transparent part of the “front” half of the case is opposite the camera, but in this case the main screen will be hidden behind the “matte” film. As a reminder, most modern touchscreens don't work underwater, so you'll need either a hardware shutter button or a timer. Video recording is easier - you can start it before diving.
This case model is interesting for its low cost and versatility. But we recommend that you try it on your device first, since for many modern smartphones the rigid frame around the contour makes it much more difficult to control. You could even say that the design is better suited for classic push-button phones than for touch phones. It is also worth noting the reliable design, which withstands the process of removal and installation well. It is not very convenient to use this case all the time, since there is no charging option. It may be interesting for use in conditions where complete protection from moisture and preservation of the ability to talk is required.
H2O Audio Amphibx Fit Lightweight Waterproof Armband WB1-BK
H2O Audio offers its own versions of waterproof cases, noticeably different in appearance and capabilities from those described above. For testing, we used the WB1-BK model; the others are similar to it and differ mainly only in size. The main positioning is for athletes involved in water sports who cannot part with their player or phone even under water (the limit is set at 3.6 m). In addition to cases, you also need to have appropriate headphones, which we will talk about a little later.
The case is supplied in a standard small cardboard package. The kit includes detailed instructions in English and an alternative attachment for isolating the headphone connection. The dimensions of the model are quite large; the manufacturer claims the possibility of using mobile devices with dimensions up to 120x67x19 mm. Essentially, the device is a flexible “package” that contains a special plastic hatch with an insulating pad for installing a phone or player, a built-in cable for headphones or a headset, and two rings on the edges for installing a belt. At the same time, the standard belt, when stretched, can provide fastening to a hand with a diameter of slightly more than 45 cm. It can also be replaced with an additionally purchased belt or another “manual” version of one of three sizes. The company's assortment also includes a model in which, instead of attaching a belt, there is one ring for a carabiner.
Due to its large size, the case can hold enough air inside to keep your phone afloat, which can be useful in some situations.
Installing the device into the case is generally simple - open the hatch, install the phone, connect the audio cable, close the hatch. Next, you need to adjust the size of the hand strap and connect the headphones. In principle, you can use the case without headphones, but there is no plug for the connector and the manufacturer warns that water may get through it if left in water for a long time. In fact, the problem is more likely to be the aggressive effect of water, especially sea water, on metal contacts.
Checking the installation of iPod Touch 3G, iPhone 3G and 4, as well as HTC Desire showed that these devices are quite compatible with this case model. The only thing you need to pay attention to when using players is the location of the audio jack. The length of the built-in cable is a little short until the most inconvenient place - the lower right corner. As an alternative solution, you can install the player upside down.
It should be noted that the connectors and cable are four-pin, so you can use not only headphones, but also a headset. Considering that there are sports models of headphones on the market that do not formally support immersion in water, it is quite possible to use this case with them for cycling in the rain or similar situations when you want to ensure 100% safety of the phone, but there is no such requirement for headphones. By the way, the option of working as a cycling computer or for navigation is also offered by the company.
This model sits quite comfortably on the hand. This is ensured by the shape of the hatch, a special additional soft padding at the bottom of the case and high-quality strap material.
With some skill, you can try using this model for underwater filming. If we talk about Apple products, then you can simply install them with the camera facing down, since in the standard version it will be closed by a hatch. But we must be aware that the presence of an air gap and a less than perfectly transparent film will affect the quality of the pictures.
original size photos are available via the links
The standard version of audio transmission is designed for the use of an external headset. However, as a last resort, you can try to do without it (remembering to disconnect the internal cable). The sound is muffled, but speech can be heard. The second feature is that the proximity sensor is triggered during a conversation by the case itself.
This case model is most interesting for its versatility, reliable design and excellent performance of the sealed lid. There is no doubt that it will last a very long time and will protect your phones or players from moisture. The presence of a standard audio connector in combination with branded headphones and headsets allows you to use the case for listening to music and talking. A wide range of accessories will help you stay tuned to your favorite music during sports training, including swimming and other water sports.
H2O Audio Surge Contact 2G Waterproof Headset
As we said above, H2O Audio cases are interesting to use in conjunction with protected headphones. In normal mode, the speaker sound is not the best. So it's time to look at this product category. In fact, H2O Audio headsets are practically the only offering of their kind on the market.
The most affordable Flex series includes several headphone models that differ in color. They can withstand immersion to a depth of 1 m for half an hour. A little more expensive are two Trax models, which can be used in different configurations thanks to the variable shape of the headband. They provide the same level of protection as Flex and can be interesting in sports training. In the most expensive Surge series, designed for 3.6 m of immersion without a time limit, there are three models - regular headphones in the “plug” format, the same, but with an occipital band for better attachment, and a similar version of the headset – stereo headphones and a microphone. For testing, we chose the last option, which has the word “Connect” in the name.
Packaging and accessories are standard - a plastic box with a cardboard insert, a headset, four sets of replaceable inserts of different sizes, brief instructions. The technical specifications indicate the main parameters - a resistance of 16 Ohms and a maximum input power of 5 mW. Emitter type: 8 mm with NdFeB magnets, ECM microphone.
The main color of the product is blue. The cable length is about 115 cm. The microphone and button are located on the cable of the right earphone. It also has an additional clothespin for easy fastening. The plug has a reinforced design, designed to work together with covers from the same manufacturer, but is also suitable for a standard connector.
The button can be used on phones to answer an incoming call (tested on iPhone 4 and HTC Desire) and control the player (pause, play, tested on iPod Touch 3G). There is nothing special to say about the quality of sound transmission - quite a decent option for this class. Note that under water the frequency range changes noticeably - the sound becomes duller. So you can still enjoy music only without immersion.
Testing together with the H2O Audio case attached to the shoulder showed that this design interferes little during traditional swimming, the length of the headphone cable is quite sufficient, and nothing limits movement.
Lifeproof iPhone 4 Case
The last participant in this review is a protected case from the American company Lifeproof Cases. Its most important differences from other models are its compatibility only with the iPhone 4 and its focus not only on water resistance, but also protection from dirt, snow and shock.
It is packed in a small cardboard box, which at first glance does not differ much from many others. However, it has selective lamination on the front side and an additional opening cover, which allows you to increase space for describing the product and see its actual appearance through a transparent window. Note that there are several color options for the device, and the design option for the device itself is completely lost behind the case.
The package includes a case, an audio adapter, a spare headset jack cover and a microfiber cloth. For the user manual, instructions and other information, it is suggested to go to the company’s website, which is not always convenient. In addition to the case, you can purchase spare gaskets and plugs, belt mounts, bicycle/motorcycle mounts, arm (shoulder) straps and other accessories.
The company provides the following figures in the description of the model: weight - 28 g, increase in external dimensions by no more than 1.5 mm, protection against falls from a height of 2 m, protection against water ingress at depths of up to 2 m, protection against dirt according to the IP68 standard, the ability to operate in a temperature range from −40 °C to 60 °C (remember that Apple’s recommendations for the phone itself are noticeably faster - from 0 °C to 35 °C), 10,000 cycles to latch the communication connector cover.
The main elements of the case are two halves of the case, made of dense, but not hard plastic. The back panel is thin, and there is a sealing gasket in a special groove around its perimeter. It provides the main protection against water penetration. During assembly and maintenance, it is recommended to pay special attention to its condition. It should be free of damage, dirt and dust. Also on this half there is a cover for the main phone connector and two windows for the camera and flash.
The front panel is more complex and consists of a frame and a transparent front panel. The frame contains elements for implementing the use of all buttons (power, lock, volume control), membranes for the ringer speaker and two microphones, and a hole for an audio cable with a screw plug.
The transparent front panel made of a fairly rigid film allows the use of the phone screen, Home button, earpiece, front video camera and phone sensors. Apparently wanting to maintain an appearance similar to the phone itself, the manufacturer did not limit the transparent and glossy insert to the screen only.
This led to the fact that in the upper part the film forms a small “hump” near the speaker grille and sensors due to the need to install a membrane, and in the lower part the Home button does not look very neat (the film has a corresponding curved shape in this place).
Perhaps it would have been worth limiting ourselves to installing film only for the screen, and making the rest of the field from other materials. However, these “troubles” are visible only from a certain viewing angle and, rather, are already nit-picking.
The halves are fastened with latches located along the entire perimeter of the case. The first time you can open it correctly only using improvised means (a coin is recommended). The company honestly warns that the device is not designed for frequent disassembly/assembly. Fortunately, this is not a problem with this model.
Strict compatibility with the iPhone 4/4S made it possible to implement not only all controls, but also charging the device without removing the case. So if you are going on a hike or a business trip, just put on the cover at the very beginning. However, you still need to pay attention to the condition of the case and maintain it. The only pity is that the kit does not include documents on these procedures.
In addition, one more positive side should be noted - the device in the case can be used in everyday life. The thickness of the case increases to 13 mm, which in many cases can be considered acceptable, given the increase in the degree of protection. Although the phone, when in a case, loses its glass appeal, it remains quite recognizable and looks quite interesting and original.
To connect headphones or a headset, you need to use the supplied adapter cable (length - 15 cm). Its plug has the necessary threads and a gasket ring, but the socket is already ordinary. Note that the case comes with a four-wire cable, which ensures compatibility with the original headset and supports not only headphones, but also a microphone. Additionally, you can purchase a special version of the adapter - “Swimming”, which, according to the statement, does not support a microphone and control. In any case, you can use the case without the headset, remembering to install the plug in the connector.
Before actual use, the manufacturer recommends checking the reliability of the insulation by immersing it in water for an hour in a closed state. The next recommended step is to clean the surfaces of the phone before placing it in the case. Particular attention should be paid to the front panel and camera. It is advisable not to use a film on the screen when placing the phone in a case, as this may make it difficult to operate.
Sound transmission is very good, the installed membranes cope with this a little better than the bodies of the cases described above. In addition, the additional microphone on the top end of the device continues to work. Thanks to the smooth surface of the front panel, using the touch screen is convenient. The only note concerns the loss of contrast when used in bright sunlight - the thin air layer between the case and the matrix noticeably reduces the brightness.
The device also does a good job of taking photographs outdoors and underwater. Protective windows for cameras and flash fit tightly to the phone, which has a positive effect on the quality of the resulting image.
original size photos are available via the links
Just remember to check that there are no drops on the lens window after swimming. Otherwise, the image will have shadows and blurry corners.
This model is most suitable for permanent use. All phone controls and the camera are accessible, and to connect to the communication socket you just need to flip the lid. Optional accessories significantly expand the options for mounting/installing your phone and allow you to implement many scenarios that require protecting your device.
Conclusion
Smartphones today have become constant companions for many users, and, of course, everyone wants to ensure the safety of devices in adverse conditions, especially considering their often rather high cost. A vacation at the seaside, a camping trip, active sports - all this requires either special equipment or the purchase of protective covers. The models discussed in this material differ markedly from each other in their characteristics, capabilities and features, and have their own strengths and weaknesses. We hope that the article will help you choose the option that is right for you. For reference, the approximate cost of models on the local market at the time of writing is also indicated below.
An affordable universal solution under the Krusell brand (1000-1500 rubles) completely protects against water, allows you to use the phone for its intended purpose, and can withstand many assembly cycles. But it is not very suitable for touch devices with controls located at the ends.
The H2O Audio case (2000 rubles) is capable of accepting and reliably protecting many modern phones and media players while swimming. It allows for several mounting options, has a good lid design, and in combination with branded headphones will allow you to listen to your favorite songs even underwater.
If you still want to talk, then the Surge Contact 2G headset (2000-3000 rubles) will come to the rescue. With it you can conduct live video reporting from the wettest spots on the planet where there is cellular network coverage.
The Lifeproof model (5,500 rubles), relevant only for the iPhone 4/4S, is interesting for its design, which will allow you to fully use your phone not only in extreme conditions, but also in everyday life, without having to constantly change clothes. This case, unfortunately, does not treat the latter very well.
We thank the online store Cult of Accessories (icult.ru) for providing Krusell, H2O Audio and Lifeproof cases for testing, as well as the H2O Audio headset
iPhone 11 64GB

Budget Apple: iPhone SE (2020)
Buy in USA: from $399
The most affordable Apple smartphone in Russia can hardly be called a budget model, since it sells for 40,000 rubles. Considering the design comes from 2014, when the iPhone 6 appeared, the choice of this device seems doubly dubious. However, in the USA, prices for the younger model start at $399, which is less than 30,000 rubles. (as of May 2021). When buying a smartphone in the USA, you can save 5,000 rubles. including delivery to Russia.
Compared to the flagship, the specifications of the iPhone SE (2020) are more modest. The housing protection complies with the IP67 standard, which provides protection against immersion to a depth of 1 m for 30 minutes.
HUAWEI P30 Pro

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 12/256GB
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ is vaguely reminiscent of the Galaxy S20 Ultra - at least with a similar large display, only with a slightly smaller diagonal - 6.8 inches. But it has one feature that is missing in the case of the S20 Ultra - a proprietary stylus that users love so much.
In addition to the stylus and chic screen, the Galaxy Note 10+ received a stylish body design, a powerful Samsung Exynos 9825 chip and 12 GB of RAM, a 4300 mAh battery with fast and wireless charging, and an on-screen scanner, which, however, is found in most modern flagships.
Separately, we note the excellent sound both in the headphones and in the speakers - stereo speakers are installed.

The Pixel 4 traditionally takes excellent pictures, and if previously it used a single camera, now it has a dual one. Google does not chase the number of modules, it relies on quality - and this is fully confirmed by the photographs taken by the Pixel 4.
For a flagship, the Pixel 4 is compact, thanks to its small 5.7-inch screen. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, memory capacity is 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM. There is fast and wireless charging, but the battery capacity is not too large - 2800 mAh.
Water protection: IP68.
- Screen diagonal / resolution: 5.7 inches / 1080×2280
- Device weight: 162 g
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855

Waterproof smartphone - standards:
Every waterproof phone should have a certain standard of water resistance (and most often dust resistance). This is expressed by the so-called IP code (eg IP67, IP68). After this code two numbers are added. The first expresses protection from dust, and the second from water.
The rule is simple - the higher the numbers, the better the protection. Most modern rugged phones have a dust resistance rating of 5 (high) or 6 (highest) according to the PN-EN 60529:2003 standard.
When it comes to protection against access to water, you should mainly choose phones that offer protection at level 7 or 8 (9 is rare - for example in the CAT S61 smartphone) - also in accordance with PN-EN 60529: 2003.
A good waterproof phone should be rated IP67 or IP68. The best and most durable models even have an IP69 rating
When deciding to buy a waterproof smartphone, there are several important aspects to consider, such as:
You might like the TOP 10 best camera phones of 2021
Type of protection - certificate
If you want to be sure that a particular manufacturer has created a waterproof phone, the easiest way to check is in the specification, which should include the IPxx marking. The first number (hidden under x) indicates the degree of protection against solid objects (for example, dust). The second number indicates protection against water ingress.
How to recognize a waterproof phone? Of course, also after the IP standard, only after the second digit. Full resistance scale below:
- IPX0 - no protection
- IPX1 - protection against dripping water
- IPX2 - protection against water drops - when tilting the case up to 15 degrees.
- IPX3 - protection against splashing water - when tilting the case up to 60 degrees.
- IPX4 - protection against splashing water - in any position of the case.
- IPX5 - protection against water jets - max. 12.5 l/min
- IPX6 - protection against water jets - max. 100 l/min
- IPX7 - protection against immersion in water - up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1 meter
- IPX8 - protection against prolonged immersion in water - specific values to be provided by the manufacturer.
There are up to 10 levels of water resistance:
- 0 - No protection
- 1 - Protection against vertically falling drops
- 2 - Protection against drops falling at an angle of 15 °
- 3 - Protection against drops falling at an angle of 60 °
- 4 - Protection against drops falling from any angle. This level guarantees protection from rain.
- 5 - Protection against water jets from any direction
- 6 - Protection from strong jets or waves
- 7- Protection against flooding when submerged to a depth of 1 meter (lower part of the hull) for 30 minutes
- 8 - Protection against flooding at a depth of up to 1 m with constant immersion
- 9 - Protection against flooding with a water jet under pressure up to 100 bar and a maximum temperature of 80 ° C.
However, it is worth remembering that the IP standard alone does not provide sufficient protection when the water is hot or salty. In order to immerse your phone in liquid with such parameters with impunity, you need to check whether the waterproof smartphone meets the following standards. One of them is MIL-810G, which provides salinity resistance.
Frame
Of course, a waterproof smartphone should still perform all its basic functions. It should be pleasant to use, fast enough, have a good display, camera, wireless connectivity, enough memory and a processor capable of handling the most important tasks. An additional advantage will be two SIM cards. A durable casing should not compromise ease of use.
The quality should depend on the previous point, i.e. the certificates issued to the phone. It must be made of quality materials, and each element must fit perfectly. Some phones have additional seals that provide water resistance while protecting the battery and SIM or SD card slots.
Waterproof and ruggedized smartphones have a slightly different design. In their case, additional rubber or plastic elements are used to protect against impacts, and sometimes small flaps are used to cover the connectors. As a result, their design is not as beautiful, but it is armored and durable.
Protected ports
Most waterproof phones have silicone gaskets hidden inside the case, in the SIM card tray, and around ports and buttons. You don't see them, but they perform their function without forgetting to close the traffic jams.
Also, do not forget that the ports are reliably protected, for example, with rubber plugs. Although this is not the only condition. For example, in the Sony Xperia Z1, the manufacturer made the headphone jack waterproof without installing a plug. This allows users to listen to music in the rain without worrying about damage to the plug.
Guarantee
Before purchasing a waterproof phone, you should read the description provided by the manufacturer and the warranty itself. It may turn out that despite the certificates provided, the device will stop working.
Then it’s worth knowing in what cases the manufacturer does not provide a warranty and, therefore, does not repair the phone. When setting a standard, a number of factors are taken into account, not only contact with the water itself, but also the type of water (is it sweet), the temperature and the pressure at which it is applied to the device.
Sony Xperia 1
The flagship Sony Xperia 1 is made in the company's already well-known style - an elongated body due to a screen with 21:9 proportions. Unusual, but quite convenient.
The smartphone itself turned out to be successful. So, it has an excellent triple camera, a powerful platform, decent battery life, a recognizable design, and a high-quality matrix.
Interestingly, the 3.5 mm jack has disappeared from the case, and wireless charging is also not supported.

Samsung Galaxy S20+
The Samsung Galaxy S20+ model, which differs from its predecessor S10 Plus in an improved refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, a more balanced camera, and a new chip, joins the list of waterproof smartphones. At the same time, the new generation of flagships from the South Korean manufacturer does not have a 3.5 mm jack. It would not be superfluous to note the presence of the powerful Snapdragon 865 chip (in some regions) and Exynos 990 (in our market). Unfortunately, the previous fact is not the most pleasant and even painful for many buyers. Actually, this is why the company received a lot of criticism due to the fact that it does not allow users to choose hardware on their own. The battery capacity has been increased to 4500 mAh. The camera supports 4K resolution and stabilization.
Pros:
- battery capacity;
- update frequency;
- main camera;
- front-camera;

As before, the very high speed of the system and excellent cameras are impressive. Support for virtual eSIM cards has appeared. True, this is not relevant for us yet.
The iPhone Xs is much cheaper than the iPhone 11 Pro.

pros
- Same durability as iPhone 12 Pro models
- Impressive dual cameras
- Attractive design
Minuses
- Battery life is below average
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are cheaper than Apple's iPhone 12 Pro models, but Apple hasn't skimped on the durability of its less expensive phones. Like the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 12 can withstand 6 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. And it also features a Ceramic Shield display, which increases the chances that your phone will survive a drop.
The highest performance of iPhone 12 is provided by the A14 Bionic chip. The smartphone also takes great photos, despite lacking the telephoto lens you'll find on the Pro models.
If we have a complaint about the iPhone 12, it's its lack of battery life, which we attribute to the demands of 5G connectivity. Otherwise, Apple has implemented a beautiful and reliable device in the iPhone 12.

In this version, the rear camera is dual (12/12 MP) and, traditionally for Apple, takes excellent pictures. The front one, however, also turned out great.

pros
- Compact design
- Great camera, now with ultra-wide angle lens
- Long battery life
Minuses
- Poor performance
The Pixel 5 doesn't significantly improve on the IP68 water resistance rating of its predecessors, but it is still one of the best waterproof phones as it can withstand up to 1.5 meters of water.
The Pixel 5 has a 6-inch 90Hz OLED screen and a dual-lens rear camera system. An additional shooter on the back is a 16MP ultra-wide camera, replacing the telephoto on the 2021 model, although a high-quality Super Res digital zoom is still available.
The Pixel 5 loses the Soli Motion Sense radar technology and 3D Face Unlock from the Pixel 4, but gains a much larger battery, which will undoubtedly be appreciated by more users. Additionally, the Pixel 5 supports 5G networks in both sub-6GHz and mmWave frequencies, although the Snapdragon 765G processor in Google's latest flagship doesn't deliver the flagship-caliber performance we'd expect given the price.
