How to set spin only on LG washing machine?

How to use LG washing machines?

Washing machines from the Korean company LG have been popular among buyers in many countries for several decades. The main advantages of automatic machines produced under a well-known brand are a wide model and price range, regular improvements to existing models, a Russified menu, and simple operation. But despite the many models, all LG machines have a similar menu.

Basic operating rules

Once the new washing machine is at home, you need to remove all packaging materials and choose a place to install it. To avoid problems in the future and save time, it is better to have the machine installed by an experienced technician or service center employee. Before installing the machine, you need to choose a place in the apartment. Whether it is a kitchen or a bathroom, there should be a flat floor under the machine without slopes. There should be an outlet in the immediate vicinity, as well as water and sewer pipes. After the installation is completed, before you start using your LG washing machine, you must read its operating manual.

By carefully studying the instructions, you can quickly understand the basic principles of operation of the equipment and become familiar with the washing modes, which will help in the future to avoid problems with its operation.

Program selection and other settings

All models produced under the LG logo have a set of standard washing modes in their menu. However, depending on the modification, the menu may differ slightly. The standard menu includes the following programs.

  1. Cotton – mode for washing bed linen and towels. Used for washing stained or heavily soiled items. Thanks to the intensive rotation of the drum, it washes better while consuming less energy.
  2. Eco Cotton - also intended for the care of cotton fabrics, however, it is less intensive compared to the first.
  3. Mixed fabrics – the mode is intended for all types of laundry. You can select the time and water temperature yourself in the additional settings.
  4. Everyday wash – also suitable for all types of fabrics, but not heavily soiled. Operating time has been reduced to 1 hour.
  5. Intensive – provides a temperature of 60 C. Suitable for items made of dense fabrics.
  6. Delicate – the washing mode provides a water temperature of 30 C.
  7. Sportswear – program for washing sportswear and shoes.
  8. Wool washing – delicate cycle for washing knitted or woolen items.
  9. Synthetics – designed for washing items made from synthetic fabrics.
  10. Silent – a mode with special rotation of the drum, in which the operation of the motor is almost inaudible. In this mode, the machine can work at night without interfering with your rest.
  11. Baby Mode - Thanks to the increased number of rinses in this mode, even the smallest particles of powder are removed from baby clothes.
  12. Refresh – a mode used in the latest models. Allows you to care for things without washing by treating them with hot steam.

In more modern models equipped with a digital display, the time spent washing in one mode or another is displayed on the screen. For older machine models, the washing time can be found in the operating instructions. Another advantage of modern units is the intelligent control mode. It lies in the fact that the system can independently determine the weight of the laundry. And using special buttons on the control panel, the user can independently increase or shorten the washing time, increase or decrease the temperature, change the number of rinses, and spin.

Despite the many advantages of machines of this brand, users often talk in their reviews about the sound indicating the start and end of washing. Most people describe this sound as loud, annoying and unpleasant. It is impossible to make it quieter or turn it off.

And since the machine will serve for several years and be used almost daily, this point is worth paying attention to when choosing a model.

How to turn on and start the wash?

After installation, you must remove the bolts that secure the drum during transportation. How to do this correctly is described in detail in the operating instructions for any model. Next you need to make the first launch. To do this, you need to turn on one of the modes where the temperature will be 60 C.

There is no need to add laundry during the first wash, but you do need to add powder. The first wash will help to wash all parts of the device with residual factory lubricant and will help check the water intake, drainage, and the presence or absence of unusual noises in operation. You must run the first wash test following these instructions.

  1. Connect the device to the mains.
  2. Open the water supply tap.
  3. Open the drum hatch and load laundry (it is not recommended to load laundry for a test wash).
  4. Open the detergent compartment and pour washing powder into the corresponding tray.
  5. Select the required program.
  6. Press the power button.

Once the process is complete, the machine will beep. The door will be locked for 1 minute. After the specified time and a characteristic click, it can be opened. It is important to be nearby during the test run and monitor the operation of the household appliance.

This will help, in the event of a possible problem, to quickly disconnect the machine from the network and prevent its breakdown.

Detergents and their use

Modern manufacturers of synthetic detergents offer a large selection of washing powders, gels or capsules for washing, as well as fabric softeners. The powder compartment in all models of this brand is located in the upper left corner. You can pull out the tray by grabbing it from below with your fingers and pulling it towards you.

The inside of the powder tray is divided into several compartments. Each type of detergent must be poured or poured into the corresponding compartment, each of which is marked with numbers. For LG automatic washing machines, you can use any type of detergent, but always with the appropriate mark on the packaging. It is strictly forbidden to add detergent that is not intended for use in an automatic machine when washing, as this can lead to increased foaming and cause malfunction of the device.

Even when adding detergent, you need to monitor its quantity. How many grams of powder are required for washing in a particular mode can be found in the description of the modes in the manual for using the unit. It is not recommended to determine the amount of powder by eye, since if there is not enough of it, dirt may remain on the laundry. And if there is excess, the powder will not be completely removed when rinsing.

Like any household appliance, a washing machine needs careful use and constant maintenance. It is important to take breaks between washes for at least 30 minutes. Since the motor may heat up during the washing process. After washing, it is recommended to wipe the inside of the drum with a dry cloth and keep the door and powder compartment open. This will help the parts inside the machine dry faster and prevent the appearance of an unpleasant odor.

It is necessary to periodically descale the heating element by adding a special cleaning agent for washing machines when washing. It is recommended to carry out the procedure once every 25 washes. You can pour a special product even while washing clothes, without turning on a separate mode.

New models of LG washing machines have a self-cleaning function. This is a separate mode on the control panel. It is recommended to run it once every 11 washes. This mode helps clean the parts inside the device from scale and dirt, preventing unpleasant odors from the drum.

After the procedure, the machine should be rebooted.

Often, after several years of operation, the machine stops taking in or draining water. You can fix this problem yourself. To do this, you need to unscrew and clean the drain filter and drain hose, which are hidden in the lower right corner on the front panel under a special hatch. Cleaning will help remove items that have fallen out of clothes during the washing process and will correct problems with the water supply and drainage.

Recommendations

The manufacturer offers many models of LG machines for purchase. All of them have a modern design, various color variations, a convenient menu in Russian and many washing programs. When using household appliances, there are a number of recommendations that will be relevant for all models.

  1. Wash white items separately from colored items.
  2. Do not exceed the maximum permissible weight of loaded laundry.
  3. Ensure that the electrical cord is in good condition.
  4. Choose models with class A electricity consumption.
  5. When choosing, give preference to models with a digital display and indicating the washing time.

So, by following some rules and recommendations, you can easily learn how to use an LG washing machine. By studying the user manual, you can quickly understand the washing modes and protect the unit from damage.

Taking good care of and caring for your household appliance will help increase its service life and save you from unnecessary expenses on purchasing a new one.

The instruction manual for the LG washing machine is in the video below.

Let's use the program

The installation process of programs depends on the LG washing machine model. In devices released a long time ago, there is no display and the machine is controlled using a programmer, and at the same time, users rely on flashing lights. More modern models have touch or electronic panels, and they are controlled using special keys.

Ultra-modern models of LG washing machines allow you to select a program and start washing remotely using a smartphone.

How to use an LG washing machine correctly

Not everyone knows how to properly use equipment for washing clothes, although at first glance it seems as if everything is extremely simple. Even models like LG have their own characteristics. When working with them, be sure to follow the instructions. And if it is not there, certain problems may arise. In this case, you have to look for information related to this issue on the Internet. Below we discuss how to use an LG washing machine.

First you need to start the device correctly. In this case, you should focus on the information that is on the control panel. Since most LG washing machines are assembled in our country, their menu is Russified, which is very convenient for users.

Disabling spin

When washing some types of fabrics, it is not advisable to use a spin cycle. Such a restriction can be set by the manufacturer who released the item. Sometimes you yourself want to carefully and delicately wash a batch of your favorite clothes.

On LG models, you can disable the spin function in almost every factory wash program.

In general, you can immediately select a mode that does not involve spinning the laundry. If this option is not suitable, simply turn the programmer knob to the desired program. Then, using the button on the control panel that regulates the number of revolutions, set “No spin”. The washing will proceed as usual, but at the end of the rinsing, the machine will simply drain the remaining water from the tank and notify you that the process is complete.

    The machine turns off the spin cycle, but rinses with the spin cycle. What to do?

    Answer

The order of actions to be done

The device is placed on a fairly flat and hard surface. In this case, it is important to adjust the legs so that the machine stands level and on all legs. It should not wobble; this should be checked immediately.

Then connect the device to the water supply, and correctly tilt the hose to drain the water. The laundry is loaded into the drum. In this case, colored and white items, light and heavy items are loaded separately, for example, sweaters and trousers are washed separately from socks, etc.

The further procedure for the user is as follows:

  • the required amount of machine powder is poured in and conditioner is added if necessary,
  • the machine is plugged into the mains,
  • On the device control panel, press the On button,
  • after the signal, you need to select the appropriate washing program manually or using the touch control panel,
  • All you have to do is click the Start button.

Immediately before starting, you can separately select the appropriate washing temperature and a number of other parameters in a particular case.
If the unit is new and has never been used, it is better to run it without laundry on the shortest mode of all, using powder or a special product intended for the first wash. This will allow you to wash off all the factory dirt that is in the drum, and at the same time check how efficient the purchased equipment is.

Please note that the device can only be used if it is first correctly connected to the drain and water supply. If this is not done, there may be crashes and program freezes.

It is important to check the compartment designed for draining water. It is located directly under the hatch on the device body. There should be no accumulation of any debris or objects that fall into the water during washing.

Automatic machines have a useful function called Drum Cleaning. It must be used regularly to extend the life of the purchased unit.

Activator and drum type machines

The basis of the device is its tank. It is filled with water, then clothes are placed in it, and a suitable detergent is poured in (this can be a high-quality powder and conditioner).

There are different types of washing machines, for example, activator. Water circulates in them due to a special activator in the form of a disk located in the bottom of the tank. The laundry must be loaded into the tank, add detergent and then fill it with water, then close it tightly. When the operating cycle is completed, the water should be drained manually.

As for drum-type devices, they are distinguished by the presence of a drum in the tank. When using them, you only need to load the laundry and add detergent. After this, the tank is closed and water is poured. A number of such devices have a spinning device. Any operations must be performed independently: pouring and draining water, etc.

Adviсe

If there is no running water in the house, a large tank will help to connect the washing machine. It is placed on a stand (at least a meter high) and filled with water. A hose is screwed into the bottom of the tank, the end of which is connected to the washing machine.

If you don’t have a level at hand, your smartphone will help you level the washing machine perfectly . To do this, you need to download the “Call Quick Tools” application, select the “Surface Level” option, and then place the mobile phone on the washing machine. The readings on the display will help you navigate and correctly align the household appliance in the horizontal plane.

Don't rush to get rid of packaging containers. In case of a return or warranty repair, the presence of original packaging is one of the mandatory conditions for the provision of service.

Recommendations

To extend the service life of equipment, it is very important to follow certain washing rules.

  • When washing newly purchased products, you first need to look at their label or tag to see if they can be washed by machine, or is it recommended to do it manually,
  • First, the linen is carefully sorted by fabric type and color,
  • it is important not to forget to check your pockets, remove from them all small items forgotten there, money,
  • Before you start washing, you should check that buttons and other parts are securely fastened to the clothes,
  • Clothing with zippers, all kinds of jackets, trousers and other similar things should be turned inside out so they can be washed more efficiently.

Typically, various washing powders or high-quality liquid substances are used. Liquid solutions are best. Powders do not always dissolve well in hard water. This is their problem. In addition, liquid substances are better able to wash dirt from clothes.

Some types of powders, as well as liquid specialized products, contain various substances that significantly soften the water used. They are great for hard water. If they are not used, the unit may quickly break down when using hard water.

There are special effective means for bleaching clothes that do not contain chlorine. You can also choose products designed for colored fabrics. To make the linen tender and soft and with a pleasant aroma, and to keep its shape, conditioners are used.

Most frequently used programs

LG machines can have up to twenty different washing modes. With their help, you can wash a wide variety of clothes with high quality. But the majority of users from all this variety usually use only a couple of main modes, while others launch them in exceptional cases, and sometimes do not use them at all. What programs are used most often in practice?

The most beloved mode by many is Quick 30. It allows you to thoroughly wash lightly soiled laundry. In this case, the washing temperature is about + 30 degrees, its duration is half an hour. When starting this mode, it is recommended to load about 2 kilograms of laundry.

Another very popular program is Cotton Quick. The mode is suitable for cotton items. In this case, the maximum drum load is usually no more than 7 kilograms, depending on the specific model of the device.

The temperature is usually about + 60 C. But it can be higher (up to + 90 C). The appropriate spin speed is also selected and the rinse can be selected. In total, the washing time in this mode is about one and a half hours, possibly more.

As for delicate washing of items (the rule also applies to items made of wool), the corresponding program is usually turned on for one hour.

It is possible to turn on the mode for washing baby's clothes. It will effectively deal with heavy dirt and stains. The temperature of this mode can vary from + 60 C to + 95 C

There is a special mode for washing duvets, bulky items, and synthetics. They are used less often in practice, but they may also be needed. There is a program for mixed fabrics. It is possible to select simultaneously several fabrics with different compositions at a temperature of + 40 C.

There is also a special mode that includes Rinsing things, including their subsequent spinning.

It is possible to turn on silent washing. It is suitable for clothes that are not heavily soiled. The most important thing with this type of washing is that it provides a low noise level.

A correctly selected washing mode can protect items from unsuitable temperatures.

Sometimes LG equipment also has various additional functions, for example, half-loading of clothes, easy ironing. Sometimes the device has the ability to lock the doors from children (they are not always available, it depends on the model)

We organize drainage of waste water

The easiest way to organize the drainage of waste water from the machine is to lower the end of the hose into the bathtub, toilet or sink. The liquid will first enter the plumbing, and then into the central sewer pipe. But all this action looks unaesthetic from the outside, and in addition threatens to stain the snow-white ceramics. Therefore, it is better to go the other way and act through the siphon.

First of all, open the instructions for the washing machine. The manual has a special paragraph about connecting to the sewer system, where requirements for the height of the bend of the drain channel may be prescribed. As a rule, it is necessary to raise the pipe by 50 cm or higher. But it all depends on the specific model of the machine.

If the washing machine has a non-return valve, then the height of the bend of the drain hose does not matter.

Having found out the connection details, we install a special siphon under the sink, put a hose on it and secure it with a clamp. If you plan to connect directly to the sewer pipe, then purchase the appropriate rubber gasket. We place it at the joint, and then stretch the sleeve. Do not forget to securely fix all elements, since leakage should not appear.

Control Panel

The control panels of the devices are similar in different models. They may or may not have a display, and its size varies in each model. The location of the various additional buttons also differs.

The selection of programs occurs using the selector. For example, this is what the control panel of the F1296ND4 model is like. The toggle switch here is located on the panel on the left side. It has 13 different programs, and the user is given the opportunity to choose any of them. When selected, a special indicator lights up.

On the right there are buttons, as well as a display with numbers. Here you can find the information the user needs regarding the remaining operating time of the device, the water heating temperature at a given time, and the spin speed.

At the bottom there are the following buttons: start the device, pause (it can always be turned on for a while if necessary), select the appropriate spin speed for clothes (it is indicated in revolutions), select the appropriate water temperature (for example, it can be cold water or water with warming up to + 30 C, etc.), turning on the wash.

There are also buttons to enable additional functions, such as low speed spin and others. When you press two buttons at once, the panel is blocked from use by children. In this case, the buttons stop working. At the same time, the CL code appears on the display.

By simultaneously pressing buttons numbers three and four, you can turn on drum cleaning. It is turned on when the unit is running idle (without clothes) for an hour and a half. In this case, the water heating should be + 60 C.

Using LG washing machines in practice is very simple, especially since modern devices have the information the user needs on the control panel.

LG washing machine control panel

Most LG models are produced in Russia, which is why the control panels are completely in Russian and are very simple. There are practically no icons or symbols next to the rotary selector, buttons and on the display; everything is signed with words.

How to turn on an LG washing machine?

Each washing machine model is characterized by individual characteristics. In principle, there is nothing complicated in using technology. A beginner should carefully study the operating instructions and understand the principle of operation of the device. A person who has already dealt with automatic machines can easily cope with starting up a washing machine even from a different brand. To warn users against annoying mistakes, we will look at the basics of equipment control, tell you how to turn on the LG washing machine and activate the desired washing mode.

How to turn on the spin cycle on an LG washing machine

LG washing machines boast an intuitive interface: the user can almost always figure out how to use different washing modes without instructions. The only exception is the spin mode, the activation of which on many LG washing machines is not so obvious, since the program switch wheel often involves selecting only the “Rinse and Spin” mode. However, starting the spin function on an LG washing machine is very simple.

How to start a spin cycle on an LG washing machine: instructions

Please note: There is a "Spin" button on the front panel of your LG washing machine. This is exactly what you will need to activate the mode of the same name. Here's what you'll need for this:

  • Turn on the washing machine using the "Start" button. Wait for the indicators to turn on and the sound signal to indicate that the washing machine is ready for use.
  • Next, press the “Spin” button on the control panel of the washing machine. Press the button several times to select the desired drum speed mode. The display of your LG washing machine will show the approximate operating time.
  • Start the spin mode by pressing the “Start” button.
  • Wait for the process to complete: the LG washing machine will spin the laundry and drain the water from the tank. The machine will notify you of the successful completion of the process with a sound signal.

There is a second way to turn on the “Spin” mode; it is used for those models of LG washing machines that do not respond to the method described above.

  • Turn on the washing machine.
  • Select Rinse & Spin mode.
  • Turn off the washing machine using the power button. The artificial intelligence of the washing machine will remember the last command given to it before turning off.
  • Turn on the machine again using the “Start” button. Wait for the beep.
  • Next, press the “Spin” button on the control panel of the washing machine.
  • Select the machine drum rotation speed you need.
  • Start the spin with the “Start” button.

The “Rinse and Spin” mode on the control panel differs from the “Spin” mode in that the washing machine will first draw in water to rinse and remove detergent residue, and only then begin spinning directly.

The distinction between spin and rinse modes on the washing machine is provided by manufacturers in order not to spoil items made from delicate fabrics.

Washing machine manufacturers, including LG, warn that the spin mode is not suitable for all types of fabrics. So before you start washing, carefully read the label on the product. This primarily applies to items made of delicate fabrics with decoration (embroidery, appliqués, etc.), knitwear, items made of natural silk.

If you need to activate the “No Spin” mode on your LG washing machine, first select the mode you need on the control panel, and then use the button that controls the number of revolutions to select the “No Spin” mode.

We are sure that the next time your family asks how to turn on the spin cycle on the washing machine, you will be able to show them this article and they will definitely not have any more questions.

Initial launch

It is important to start the washing machine correctly the first time after purchase. Before turning on the washing machine, make sure that the communication connections are secure and that there are no transportation bolts inside the case. After checking that the equipment is ready for operation, open the hatch door and load laundry into the drum. Next, press the network key, install the desired program and use the “Start” button.

Many experts recommend initially running the machine “idle” (with an empty drum), this will avoid the appearance of an unpleasant odor from things.

The main task of the user during the first washing process is to make sure that the equipment correctly collects/drains water, does not make any extraneous noise, etc. Please note that if, before starting the wash, you do not close the hatch tightly, the automatic machine will not start working, but will issue corresponding fault code.

After loading the laundry into the drum, you should begin pouring the powder into a special compartment - the dispenser. Pull out the platform and load the required amount of detergent into the appropriate section. Pay attention to the compartments, each of them is designed for a specific composition - powder or conditioner-rinse aid.

The dosage of detergent for washing should not exceed 100 grams recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

So, it is better to do the first wash with washing powder, but with an empty drum. This way, the purchased washing machine will be washed from the inside and will be ready to accept the first batch of laundry for cleaning.

How to install the program?

The initial wash is carried out on any program and without items. Starting from the next start, you need to select the optimal mode for cleaning a particular type of laundry. So, we explained how to turn on the LG washing machine, now it’s worth talking about the procedure for starting the desired mode.

Beginners may be confused by the numerous buttons, confusing symbols, LEDs, and touch sensors. Before using the automatic machine, you should carefully read the user manual, understand what certain symbols on the panel mean, and what the corresponding buttons are responsible for.

The control panel on each washing device model is individual; it is better to first study its functions and capabilities.

Standard algorithm of actions when starting a washing machine:

  • connect the equipment to the network;
  • open the water supply valve;
  • load a batch of pre-sorted laundry into the drum;
  • close the hatch door tightly;
  • pour washing powder into the dispenser and, if necessary, add rinse aid;
  • focusing on the type of loaded items, use the program selector to select the optimal cleaning mode (“Synthetics”, “Cotton”, “Delicates”, “Wool”, “Sportswear”, etc.);
  • start the program by clicking the "Start" button.

At the end of the washing process, do not immediately try to open the hatch. The door will unlock a few minutes after the cycle has completed.

Each mode requires different washing parameters: duration, spin speed, water heating temperature, rinse intensity, etc.

Instructions for activating the spin cycle

Running only the spin mode on LG washing machines is very simple. After turning on the washing machine, the user should not immediately turn the programmer knob to select the appropriate program. In fact, you don't need a selector at all. To activate the spin cycle, you must use exclusively the button of the same name located on the control panel. The sequence of actions will be as follows:

  • press the network button (which turns on the equipment);
  • wait until the indicators on the control panel light up and the machine emits a characteristic sound signal;
  • press the “Spin” key several times to set the desired drum rotation speed. At this time, the display will show the approximate time of the process;
  • Start the washing machine by pressing the “Start” button. Wait for the equipment to wring out the laundry and remove the water from the tank.

By following the mentioned instructions exactly, you can be sure that the washing machine will not begin to collect water for rinsing, but will immediately begin spinning. Having selected the “Rinse plus Spin” program using the selector, be prepared that the device will first collect liquid, rinse things and only then begin spinning. And this promises an extra 10 minutes of equipment operation and several dozen wasted liters of water.

Some LG washing machine models do not respond to the algorithm described above.

This is not a reason to be upset; you can run “Spin” separately like this:

  • turn on the automatic machine, use the selector to select the “Rinse and Spin” mode;
  • turn off the equipment by pressing the power key. The intellect will remember the last command given to it;
  • turn on the washer again. At this stage, it is important not to touch the programmer knob;
  • press the “Spin” key as many times as needed to set the optimal speed;
  • start the program by pressing the "Start" key.

A little trick will help the user turn on the spin. If using the described methods it was not possible to start the mode, your “home assistant” probably has problems with the software, or a couple of buttons on the control panel do not work. In this case, you should invite a specialist to carry out diagnostics.

How much powder should I pour and where?

Manufacturers of detergents always indicate the required dosage of the composition on the packaging. The amount of powder may vary depending on the type of fabric and the severity of the stain. If you pour the composition in excess of the dose, too much foam is formed, less than the recommended volume - the clothes may not be washed.

A special measuring cup will allow you not to make mistakes with the dosage of the product.

The dispenser of the LG washing machine has three sections: the left one is for the main detergent composition, the central one is for the conditioner-rinse aid, and the right one is loaded with detergent when pre-washing is necessary.

If you're afraid of making a mistake

Operating an automatic machine is not at all as complicated as it might seem at first glance. The main thing is to follow the basic recommendations for using the washing machine. Basic tips for users:

  • do not be lazy to read the instructions for the equipment, even if you have previously used a machine of a different model, and it would seem that you know everything about automatic washing;
  • measure the hardness level of tap water and select suitable detergents that protect the washing machine elements from scale formation;
  • Do not change the washing parameters if the machine has already filled with water and started working. Otherwise, problems with the electronics may occur;
  • do not overload the machine, at the same time do not “drive” the machine with an almost empty drum;
  • at the end of washing, wipe the unit, leave the hatch door open;
  • Do not place heavy objects on the top cover of the SMA.

Now you know how to start washing on LG machines. If you follow the basic recommendations for using the equipment, the automatic machine will delight you with high quality washing for many years.

We level the body

The machine, already connected to the pipes, can be moved to the wall or placed in a set. But you can’t start the engine yet - you need to level the body of the unit, otherwise the machine will jump, vibrate and hum during the spin cycle. The procedure is almost mandatory, since in modern realities perfectly straight floors are extremely rare.

To install the washer as straight as possible, you will need a building level. Next you need to take several steps:

  • place a level on the top cover of the machine;
  • Based on the level readings, adjust the legs of the machine;
  • check the stability of the case by trying to slightly swing the machine. If the equipment moves when you press the corners, then continue the adjustment;
  • fix the nuts.

It is strongly not recommended to operate the machine when it is not level!

Normally, the LG washing machine should not vibrate much. Experts recommend carefully monitoring the vibrations and sounds emanating during the spin cycle, and promptly responding to suspicious “jumps.” It is also recommended to use special anti-vibration attachments on the legs to reduce the likelihood of breakage.
