UE error on Samsung washing machine - diagnosis and repair

The UE error on a Samsung washing machine is one of the most common and easily corrected errors on devices of this type. If in the middle of a washing session a message with such a code appears on the display of your machine, do not be alarmed, but read our article and find out how to fix the problem and prevent it from occurring in the future.

What is the UE error on a Samsung washing machine?

The problem occurs during the washing process, most often during the spin cycle. The wording UE means. that the sensors detected an imbalance in the drum of the washing machine, and in order to avoid damage to the drum and the body of the device, as well as the things in it, the washing process was suspended. It is worth noting that such a message appears on the latest generations of Samsung washing machines. On earlier versions, the error was indicated by code E4, and in models without a display, all indicators began to blink and the temperature sensor stopped at 60%.

Remedies

Before you begin to fix the problem, you need to drain the excess water that remains after an emergency stop of the machine. To do this, it is recommended to use a special emergency hose. On the Diamond, Eco Bubble washing machine, it is located behind a small panel at the bottom of the washing unit. You may need a deep bucket and a large rag.

If an error message appears on the display when spinning a couple of T-shirts or children's clothes in a drum designed for a maximum load of 5-6 kg, most likely an imbalance has occurred. To fix the problem, you need to add a sufficient number of items into the tank and start the wash cycle again. If there is underload, you can place two bath towels that have been soaked and lightly wrung out by hand into the drum. Usually after this the electronics no longer show the UE code.

If the drum is overloaded, the machine may also refuse to carry out the spin cycle. This happens when washing bulky items - blankets, bedspreads, pillows - and it is possible that after a program failure they will have to be unscrewed manually.

To make your life easier and the machine’s work easier, it’s better to remove a few things and run the program again.

The appearance of the UE information code when washing incompatible fabrics (synthetics with cotton, terry products and raincoat fabric) is solved by sorting the items in the drum. Each individual type of material has a certain weight and ability to absorb and release water, so the unit cannot distribute clothing evenly. You will have to place the unwashed items on the drum and set the spin program at low speed.

If the error occurred due to the installation of the washing machine on an uneven floor, you should try to adjust the legs of the device to the level. Adjust the legs on the machine, which is in a standing position. Afterwards they need to be fixed in one position and the spin cycle resumed. If possible, it is recommended to place the machine on a monolithic base.

If the door to the washing machine does not open, you need to wait a few minutes. After disconnecting the device from the network, the lock will unlock automatically. There is no need to try to open it by force. All of the above problems can be easily resolved at home. But problems may arise that require the help of a technician.

Pay attention to the drum. When it spins only in one direction and the spin is not carried out, a serious failure in the electronic unit is likely. Perhaps the relay on the board has failed or the processor has broken down. Diagnosing a breakdown or replacing the board will require a service call and financial investment.

After detecting the UE code, you need to start the unit and observe the empty drum. If it remains stationary, it means that the motor drive belt has become unusable. This element tends to stretch and tear over time. It will have to be replaced.

With the device turned off and the tank empty, you can try to rotate the drum manually. If this happens easily, then it is necessary to change the worn motor brushes.

A strong roar when the drum rotates indicates a bearing failure or oil seal wear. It is advisable to entrust the replacement of these parts to a specialist.

In the case when the UE code appears on the display at the washing stage and not the spinning stage, it is important to check the tachogenerator - a sensor located on the motor shaft. It controls the rotation speed of the drum. If the sensor is broken, the part will need to be replaced. But still, most often the UE code can be seen when the operating rules of an automatic washing machine are not followed.

Reasons for appearance

The causes of this problem may be the following factors:

  1. The load of laundry you are loading is too heavy or not heavy enough.
  2. The presence of tissues that absorb large amounts of liquid and gain weight.
  3. The presence of small parts on clothing or home textiles.

The different weights of the items being washed cause an imbalance during the intensive spinning and rinsing process, which can cause the body to wobble and become damaged. To avoid this, washing machines are equipped with sensors that stop the operation of the device at dangerous moments.

Why does the error occur?

When the UE error appears on the display, the reason is:

  • Loading too much laundry into the drum;
  • Underload of laundry;
  • Washing items made from different fabrics that have different weights when wet, which leads to excessive load on the drum during the spin process;
  • Loading too small things into the drum at the same time as large ones, which leads to strong twisting of the laundry and causes an imbalance in the drum;
  • One-time failure in the control module;
  • Placing the Samsung washing machine on an uneven surface.

It is necessary to establish the true cause of error E4 in order to know what to do to fix the problem and how to resolve it.

Prevention

To avoid imbalances during washing, follow these simple rules:

  • Wash duvet covers and heavy bedspreads one at a time, as these things become very heavy when wet, and smaller items can get tangled in their folds;
  • be sure to separate items by material and wash in groups;
  • do not load the machine to capacity, do not exceed the recommended weight and volume of loaded items.

Following these simple recommendations will help extend the life of your assistant and save your nerves from everyday surprises.

How to fix the "UE" error?

A dry theory is, of course, good, but there’s no way to somehow bring a washing machine back to life. The obvious solution is to eliminate uneven loading in the drum, namely, separate items from different types of fabrics from each other, sort large items from small ones.

I unplugged the machine from the power supply and waited 5-7 for the door to unlock. It may happen that the machine went into error at a time when there was still water in the drum. If this is the case, then you need to do the following:

  • Unplug the power cord from the outlet;
  • Prepare some kind of container for collecting water (it is better if it is a 10-liter bucket);
  • Unscrew the plug from the filter, which is hidden behind the hatch at the bottom of the unit;
  • Wait until the water drains into the prepared container.

After this, the drum hatch will have to be unlocked and, accordingly, it will have to be opened and the laundry sorted. I also recommend that you first run the spin cycle on the machine without any laundry at all to make sure that this is not a breakdown.

Additional Tips

Sometimes the problem of spinning occurs due to a large volume of laundry, and it is impossible to divide it into parts, since it is one thing. A way out of the situation may be to set the centrifugation mode at low speed (400 rpm) or wash without spinning.

If the door does not open after stopping the machine, it means there is water left in the tank. To remove the laundry, you need to press the “Drain” button or perform an emergency drain manually by unscrewing the filter plug at the bottom of the machine.

After excess water has been drained from the tank, the door opening mechanism will operate . After this, you can start fixing the ue error.

Why does it appear during the spin cycle?

Before you begin to correct the error, you need to find out why the unit cannot evenly distribute the load of the drum on the axis of rotation.

The reasons may be different:

  1. Excessive load of laundry. If a lot of things are placed in the drum and their quantity exceeds the permissible norm, the machine cannot even them out according to the volume of the drum before spinning.

  2. Placement of products of varying quality into the drum. Different fabrics absorb and release water differently, so under equal spin conditions, an imbalance occurs in the drum and, as a result, the work stops.
  3. Insufficient weight of laundry. Underload also has a negative effect on balancing, as does overload. A small thing cannot create equal pressure on all the walls of the drum.
  4. Control unit malfunction. Electronics in some cases can create confusion in the operation of sensors. This reason is not associated with a serious defect and can be easily eliminated.
  5. Tilt of the machine body. If the device has just been installed or has been moved recently, it is quite possible that it was installed unevenly. Even a slight slope can lead to uneven load on the drum on the axis of rotation.

All of the above reasons are not related to equipment failure, but to its operation. That is why you can eliminate them yourself; the main thing is to correctly understand why the device refuses to gain momentum.

However, in some cases, the ue error still signals a more serious problem. It could be:

  • malfunction of the entire microcircuit (control board) or just the relay on it;
  • depressurization of the seal, natural wear and destruction of the bearing;
  • stretching, delamination or rupture of the drive belt in the machine;
  • failure of one, several or all shock absorbers;
  • breakdown of the tachogenerator, which controls the drum speed;
  • wear on the motor brushes, which prevents the rotor from rotating.
