How to disassemble and remove the drain filter in a Bosch washing machine

How to clean a Bosch washing machine filter

Complex household appliances, which include washing machines, require preventive maintenance. Otherwise, active use of the unit will cause its rapid breakdown. One of the ongoing maintenance options is to clean the filter element to keep the sump pump functioning properly. The filter point is a barrier that protects the pumping unit from foreign debris that gets into the drum along with lint and hair. The resulting blockage complicates draining the liquid from the washing machine and causes the pump to fail. Let's try to figure out how to clean the filter in a Bosch washing machine.

Cleaning the washing machine

Despite the apparent complexity, everyone is quite capable of performing proper drain cleaning, regardless of the specific model of the washing machine. This work should be done in stages, as professional craftsmen do.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. The machine should be unplugged and the water supply should be turned off for safety.
  2. You need to find the location of the filter, lift the false panel or open the protective hatch. The plastic hatch is secured with latches; the false panel can be opened with a sharp knife or a wide flat screwdriver.
  3. It would be a good idea to prepare a dry rag, which may be needed when removing residual water from the tank.
  4. Many modern models have an additional emergency hose that allows you to completely drain the water from the tank, which subsequently simplifies the replacement of filter elements. After draining the water, replace the plugs and secure the emergency hose.
  5. The filter is unscrewed, which may require removing the plug.
  6. The filter element is cleaned and washed. You must first remove large debris, various foreign objects, threads and hair. The filter element itself can be cleaned of deposits with a regular dish sponge, which has an abrasive layer. After such washing, the plastic is washed under running warm water.
  7. Check the drain pump, which can also get dirty. The debris is removed manually, after which the impeller is rotated, the movement of which should not be interfered with by anything.
  8. The filter element is carefully, tightly, without distortions installed in place. The plug is twisted clockwise.
  9. The equipment is plugged into the network and checked for leaks. Perform a test rinse and check that there are no leaks from under the filter.

If the filter in the washing machine does not unscrew, it means it is very clogged. In this case, it is important not to break anything and try to get to the element from the side of the pipes and pumps. If this does not work, you will have to remove one of the walls of the device.

Depending on the device model, it may be necessary to remove different parts of the case.

For Kandy, Ardo, Ariston, Virpull, you need to approach the filter from the bottom. It may or may not be removable. Bosch, AEG, Siemens will have to remove the front wall. Electrolux and Zanussi will require removal of the back wall.

If you often wash items made of wool during the cold season, it is recommended to do cleaning every time so that residual material does not clog the devices. If you mainly wash items made from natural materials, cleaning is required at least once a month.

Many people forget that sometimes the surge protector in a washing machine needs to be replaced. It is designed to suppress electrical interference during equipment operation.

Like any other filter, it can break. If the machine does not turn on, it is most likely out of order. This part melts and turns black and must be replaced.

To add life to the equipment, experts recommend opening the drum for ventilation every time after finishing washing and wiping the cuff with a soft cloth.

To remove limescale that forms due to hard water, you can use additional methods - special products, both folk and those available in stores.

  1. "Kalgon". The action of this product is aimed not so much at removing scale, but at preventing its formation. "Kalgon" can cope with a small raid, but it cannot cope with old formations. The manufacturer recommends using it regularly, and it is suitable if your machine is not very clogged.
  2. Citric acid, which is sold in any grocery store. Two or three hundred-gram packages are poured into the powder compartment at once and the device is turned on. After completing the process, you need to clean the filter and remove any remaining limescale. Experienced housewives carry out this procedure annually. Manufacturers claim that citric acid harms equipment, although there is no official confirmation of this.

To unscrew and clean the pump, you must first gain access to it. This procedure can be applied to almost any brand of washing machine, for example, Kandy or Ariston. You will need to do the following:

  1. The power supply wires must be disconnected from the pump.
  2. You need to place a rag or bowl under the part. This is due to the fact that water may leak during disassembly.
  3. The pipe attached between the drain tank and the pump must be disconnected from the latter by removing the fastening clamp.
  4. At this stage of disassembly, you can try to clean the inside of the cochlea from foreign objects. There is a chance that in this way you can remove objects and debris that are blocking. If this can be done, then now it will be enough to unscrew it. If not, you need to continue disassembling the pump further.
  5. Now you need to remove the clamp that secures the connection of the drain hose to the pump. Now the latter needs to be removed from the snail.
  6. Now it is possible to disconnect the pump unit from the washing machine body. The mounting screws that need to be removed can be installed on the side wall next to the cover or on the bottom of the structure.
  7. After disconnecting the pump structure, it is necessary to disconnect the volute from the pump. Sometimes it is attached using a latch and other times it can be done using screws. In order to disconnect, you need to unscrew the screws or rotate the part so that the latch comes out of the grooves.

After disassembly, cleaning must be done. After this, you can easily unscrew its lid.

We invite you to familiarize yourself with the Built-in washing machine in the kitchen

Sometimes cleaning the washing machine pump filter is difficult because it is impossible to get it out of the machine:

  • you try to turn the handle to no avail;
  • or the filter is stuck in the hole and cannot be pulled out.

Such situations occur if the drainage unit has not been cleaned for a long time.

The filter may not unscrew for two reasons. Firstly, a foreign object (for example, a piece of bra wire) can prevent rotation, and secondly, scale formed on the threads and gasket.

Most often, pulling out the filter is prevented by a foreign object stuck across it or a lint ball of debris inside.

If you find yourself in this situation, you can act in two ways:

  • Use pliers if the filter does not unscrew. Try using them to turn the filter knob. Do this very carefully, without fanaticism, so as not to break the part.
  • Clean the filter through the removed pump if pliers do not help to unscrew it or the filter cannot be pulled out. Depending on the make and model of the machine, you will need to remove the back or front wall of the machine body, disconnect the wiring, remove the clamps that secure the drain pipe and hose to the pump volute, and pull out the pump itself with the volute. Next, it is most convenient to clean the filter through the hole for the drain pipe. Or disconnect the pump from the volute (it is secured with screws or latches) and clean the filter through the pump hole. After this, it should easily unscrew and pull out.

For those who nevertheless decided to deal with the stuck unit on their own, we recommend the article “How to get the drain filter if it cannot be unscrewed.”

It happens that when checking for leaks after cleaning the filter, it leaks. Or water begins to seep in after one or two washes. There are 3 reasons for the leak:

  • The filter is inserted unevenly or is loosely screwed in. The part must be inserted straight to avoid movement along the thread. And also tighten it more tightly, fixing the filter. But this must be done carefully. Plastic threads can be easily stripped if you press too hard. If there is a leak, unscrew the filter, insert it straight and tighten it again. Do not forget to place a rag or a container to collect water before removing it.
  • Gasket defect. Tight contact of the filter with the socket is ensured by a rubber gasket, as in taps or hoses. It may dry out over time or become damaged if you remove the filter carelessly or clean it with a sharp tool. To eliminate a leak, you need to change the gasket, when possible, or the entire filter, if sealing rubber bands are not sold separately.
  • Damage to thread or filter. The filter or the walls of the cochlea are damaged if the part is removed or unscrewed by force. The thread on the snail filter or glass can be torn off if you tighten the plug with significant force. In both cases, the contact becomes not tight enough to hold water. Replacing the filter or the “volute and filter” pair helps to get rid of leaks in such situations. If you can’t handle it yourself, call a professional.

Where is the filter located?

By looking at the front panel of the Bosch washing machine, you can determine the location of the filter through which the liquid is drained. In the first Bosch machines, the filter was not covered with a lid and protruded outward. Today, in different Bosch models, the drain filter can be installed:

  • maxx 4, maxx 5, maxx 6 – the drain point is located at the bottom, and the mesh of the water intake hose is located at the point where it is connected to the unit body;
  • behind a rectangular cover at the bottom right, which is easy to find on the front panel. It is easily picked up by any sharp object;
  • sometimes the drain filter of a Bosch washing machine is hidden behind a round hatch (location is the same as in the previous version), which opens with light pressure;
  • there are options in which the filter is covered with a narrow panel located at the bottom of the MCA and secured with three latches that open alternately;
  • classic 5 – a model with a frontal option for storing laundry. The filter point is located at the bottom left, hidden behind a round or rectangular lid, and is removed in the same way as in cases with devices that feature vertical loading.

How to clean the drain filter

Having found the location of the part, we begin cleaning. To begin with, the washing machine must be disconnected from the electrical network and the central water supply, tilted back so that it becomes possible to place a container for dirty liquid, which will begin to pour out of the filter.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. a basin is installed;
  2. the lid opens, hiding the part we need;
  3. On the right is the filter itself, on the left is a short sleeve through which the liquid is drained. It should be pulled out, the plug removed, and the water drained;
  4. Now it’s time to dismantle the filter element. The plug is unscrewed in the direction opposite to the movement of the clock hand. In this case, several revolutions are performed;
  5. the remaining liquid is drained, you inspect the niche from the inside, check the filter element, clean and rinse it;
  6. wipe the landing niche with a rag;
  7. the part is installed in its place, screwed until it stops;
  8. close the hatch, remove the basin, return the Bosch washing machine to its original position.

Let's get busy with the pump

Getting to the pump is more difficult - you will have to partially disassemble the machine and the pump itself. To begin with, the washing machine is disconnected from the power supply, water supply and sewerage, and then moved away from the wall. Then the algorithm is as follows:

  • remove the powder receptacle;
  • Unscrew the two screws hidden behind the tray;
  • loosen the bolts around the perimeter of the dashboard and disconnect the board from the body (there is no need to completely disconnect the module, just hang it on the side or put it on top);
  • pry open the technical hatch door and move it to the side;
  • remove the outer clamp from the cuff and tuck the elastic inside the drum (there is no need to completely tighten the seal - it is very difficult to put it back);
  • disable UBL;
  • unhook the front panel from the washing machine;
  • drain the water from the machine.

Now we find the drain pump at the bottom of the structure, unscrew the bolts holding it, disconnect the wiring and, swinging, remove it from the machine. Afterwards, we begin cleaning: we free the impeller from hair and threads, clean off dirt from the surface of the drainage and the nearby cochlea. Next, we disassemble the part and wash the internal elements.

The cleaned pump is reassembled and returned to its place, securely fixed to the volute. If during installation it is noticed that the impeller is dangling or flying off the shaft, then you should not try to secure it with sealant or glue . It is safer to replace the pump completely.

What to do if it is impossible to unscrew the filter?

Most often, this element is removed without much difficulty. However, there have been cases in which the filter was not removed, as if it was firmly stuck, and you will have to use special tools to remove it.

Now we proceed in the following sequence:

  • we place the snail removed from the Bosch washing machine with the fitting facing the ceiling;
  • move the pump all the way in a clockwise direction;
  • the stopper in the form of a mustache must be squeezed out;
  • turn the pump again in the direction of the arrow to pull it out;
  • access to the insides of the cochlea has opened, which must be cleaned and the block assembled in the reverse order.

How to remove and clean the filter in a Bosch washing machine?

Bosch is home appliances produced in Germany for several decades. Many household appliances produced under a well-known brand have proven themselves to be high-quality and reliable. Washing machines were no exception.

But during operation, even high-quality equipment can break down: the machine does not drain or fill with water, and an error code is displayed on the panel. Often such malfunctions in the operation of a Bosch machine occur due to a clogged filter.

If the described methods do not help

The methods described here work in most cases. However, there are situations when nothing can be done. In this case, if it does not unscrew, you can try using several more methods:

  1. You can try to clean the glass and its threads from rust without removing this part. To do this, you need to fill the tank with water and dissolve one or two tablespoons of citric acid in it. Then you need to start a short washing cycle at a temperature of 40-60 degrees. As a result, a composition will pass through the filter, which will clean this part from rust.
  2. If the lid does not open due to lime deposits on the threads, then cleaning the filter will not help. In this case, the filter glass, which was previously disconnected, must be placed in a container with a solution of citric acid in water. This composition will dissolve the lime and make it possible to unscrew the lid.
  3. If all else fails, you can buy a similar lid and break the old one. It is made of plastic and can be easily broken off without damaging the filter cup. After this, you need to insert a new cover in its place. If the thread was damaged during this operation, then the part will leak after this. In this case, you will have to change the filter.
  4. If you don’t want to bother with breaking out the cover, you can buy a new filter and install it in place of the old unit.

How to get a filter?

Bosch washing machines have 2 types of filters.

  1. The first is located at the junction of the machine with the water supply hose. It is a metal mesh that protects the motor from possible impurities coming from the water supply. It could be silt, sand, rust.
  2. The second is located under the front panel of the washing machine. Water is drained through this filter during the washing and rinsing process. It contains objects that can come off your clothes or fall out of your pockets.

In order to remove the filtration mesh installed at the water supply point to the machine, simply unscrew the water hose. The filter mesh can be easily removed by picking it up with tweezers.

The second filter is hidden under the front panel. And in order to clean it, you will need to remove it.

Depending on the model, this hole may be hidden under a specially designated hatch or false panel.

For top-loading machines, the drain hole may be located on the side panel.

The drain filter hatch is a dedicated panel located in the lower right corner of all Bosch machine models. It can be either square or round in shape.

The false panel is a narrow strip located at the bottom of the front panel. You can remove this cover by sliding it off the hooks. To do this, the panel needs to be lifted up.

In order to remove the required part, you need to remove the panel from the latches by pressing on its upper part. Then you need to unscrew the filter itself, for which you need to turn it counterclockwise 2-3 times.

If the part is difficult to unscrew, you need to wrap it with thick fabric. This way your fingers will not slip off the part, and you can easily remove it.

Maintenance intervals and signs of blockage

It is recommended to clean the filter every 2–4 months. But when you actively use the washing machine (for example, during daily washing), load fabrics with a lot of lint into the tank and items containing fluff or feathers, you should service the drain system more often. Ignoring these recommendations may lead to the appearance of an unpleasant odor in the machine due to incomplete drainage of water, the formation of mold in the internal parts of the device, and damage to the pump impeller blades by hard objects.

Signs of a clogged drain filter are as follows:

  1. Pumping water from the tank slows down or stops completely.
  2. When the pump is running, it makes a lot of noise and you may hear a knocking sound inside it.
  3. An “Error” message appears on the display of the washing machine, for example, “5E” or “E2”.
  4. The Rinse and Spin functions do not work.

You can make sure that the error is related to a malfunction of the drain system by reading the operating instructions for the device. There is also a troubleshooting diagram.

Cleaning steps

Before removing the drain filter, it is necessary to prepare a flat container and floor rags, since water may accumulate at the location of the filter. Next you need to perform the following manipulations:

  • turn off the power to the household appliance;
  • spread the rags on the floor and prepare a container for draining the water;
  • open the panel and unscrew the required part;
  • clean the filter from dirt and foreign objects;
  • Carefully clean the hole in the machine where the filter will be installed later;
  • install the filter in its place;
  • close the panel.

How to choose a product?

Hard water, detergents, long-term use - all this can affect the drain filter, and it can be difficult to wash it with ordinary water.

But you shouldn’t use abrasive cleaners or chlorine- or acid-based compounds for cleaning. Thus, the material from which spare parts for Bosch household appliances are made can be damaged by aggressive substances.

Therefore, you can use a soap solution or dishwashing detergent for cleaning. A special detergent for washing machines may also be an excellent option

When cleaning, do not use hard meshes or sponges - only soft cloth.

So, by following simple recommendations, you can clean the drain hole yourself, without calling a specialist and saving money on the family budget.

And to avoid breakdowns of the washing machine in the future, you need to regularly clean the drain hole. It is also necessary to ensure that foreign objects do not fall into the washing machine drum.

You can find out how to clean the filter of your Bosch washing machine below.

When is cleaning needed?

The drain filter is a unit that is designed to retain debris and foreign objects that accidentally fall into the drum and then into the tank of the Bosch washing machine. This prevents them from moving towards other components of the device, and prevents possible breakdowns.

Cleaning the unit is a job that needs to be done regularly with a Bosch washing machine. Optimal cleaning periods: once every three months for low and medium intensity use, and monthly for intensive use.

There may also be situations where cleaning is required immediately. Unscheduled cleaning may also be necessary in the following cases:

  • there is an unpleasant odor coming from the tank;

  • items with large piles, abundant pills, and hanging threads were sent for washing;
  • the lining on the jacket tore during washing, releasing holofiber or down;
  • The washing machine has problems with draining - it is difficult or does not work completely;
  • things have an unpleasant odor after washing;
  • very dirty items were sent for washing (in technical oil, in dirt, etc.);
  • there is a possibility that coins, paper clips and other foreign objects have entered the tank.

In untreated cases, the filter can be washed well even with ordinary water, and does not require the use of special products.

How to clean the filter in a Bosch washing machine

The instructions for the washing machine require the user to clean the garbage filter from time to time, but how to clean the filter in a Bosch washing machine? This procedure is simple, but has nuances that can confuse a novice user. We decided to provide step-by-step instructions that will tell you in detail: where to find the garbage filter, how to remove and clean it, and how to put it back in place. If you have recently been using an automatic washing machine from Bosch, this article will be useful to you.

Where is the pump and pump located?

Each of the models of automatic washing machines has its own structural layout of components. Some expensive units consist of two types of pumps: a circulation pump and a drain pump. The circulation pump supplies water directly to the washing area, and the drain pump removes it from the machine tank. The area where the circulation pump should be located coincides with the location of the drain. On the modern domestic market, models with one drain pump are mainly presented. Washing machines with two pumps are very rare to see.

Removal of the drain pump, depending on the structural layout, can be done through the bottom, rear or front parts of the washing machines.

Filter location

If you look closely at the front of the Bosch washing machine, you will immediately determine where the drain filter is located. In the vast majority of cases, it is located in the front, in the lower right corner of the machine body. In older models of Bosch washing machines, the filter was not hidden by a lid and stuck out; now the lid is present in all cases. Depending on the front-loading Bosch machine model, the filter may be located:

  • behind the rectangular hatch in the lower right corner of the body on the front wall of the machine, the hatch cover can be picked up with a fingernail, after which it can be easily opened;

  • behind the round hatch in the lower right corner of the machine body on the front wall, the hatch can be opened by lightly pressing on it;

  • Behind the narrow bottom panel, which is located under the front wall of the machine body, the panel is secured with three plastic latches. They need to be clicked off one by one.

Front-loading models also have a drain filter. It is located in the front of the machine body in the lower left corner. They hide behind a round or square door and are removed just like front-loading machine filters.

Some rare models of Bosch washing machines produced before 2005 do not have garbage filters at all. They simply weren't included in the design. On such machines, the volute may become clogged and to clean it you will have to remove the lower decorative panel, remove the pan and unhook the pipe. There is another way to gain access to a snail clogged with dirt, but it is difficult.

Drain filter in a Bosch washing machine: description

The purpose of the filter is to prevent dirt and small objects from getting into other parts of the machine. Its location and design may differ in different models.

Design and location

There is a filter on the front of the machine in the lower right corner. It looks different in different models of Bosch cars. In newer ones it is covered with a neat lid, but in older ones there is no cover - this element looks out.

If there is a covering cover, the following design options are possible:

  1. At the bottom of the front panel there is a narrow strip of horizontally located cover. It occupies the entire bottom edge. The lid is held on by three latches. Once they are open, it can be easily removed.
  2. The lid is small in size and rectangular in shape. It can be opened by hooking it with a screwdriver or a fingernail.
  3. The filter is located behind a small round hatch. To open it, just press lightly on it.

Some models released before 2005 did not have a drain filter. The cochlea could become clogged in them. To get it out, you had to remove the pan and disconnect the pipe.

Purpose and principle of operation

The drain filter is needed to protect the washing machine mechanism from debris and contaminants that may get there during washing. In this case, we can talk about threads, buttons, coins and other such items. Gradually, this unit becomes clogged to such an extent that water can hardly pass through it. Now cleaning the element becomes necessary.

If the filter is not working properly, the following may happen:

  1. The drain gradually stops working completely.
  2. If too much debris accumulates in the filter element, it can get into the pump and cause it to break.
  3. Accumulated debris has an unpleasant odor. Until it is removed, washed items will receive it regardless. How well are they washed?

Regular cleaning will extend the life of the machine and remove unpleasant odors.

Cleaning

Well, the garbage filter has been safely found, you can start cleaning. First, we tilt the washing machine a little back so that under the body in front we can place a flat container for the sewage that will flow out of the filter snail.

  1. We substitute a small basin.
  2. Open the lid that hides the filter.
  3. On the right we see the filter itself, on the left there is a short hose for draining water. We pull out the hose a few centimeters and, having pulled out the plug from it, drain the dirty water into a basin.
  4. Now you can remove the filter. We need to unscrew the plug by turning it counterclockwise a few turns.

  5. The remaining water will pour into the basin through the hole formed, and you should inspect the internal surfaces of the niche and the filter itself for dirt and foreign small things that accidentally got there.
  6. Wipe the filter and seat with a cloth.
  7. We insert the filter back into the niche and screw it fully clockwise.
  8. Close the hatch, take out the basin and place the machine in a stable position.

Preparatory activities

Once the user has been able to detect the filter on the body of the washing machine, it is recommended to take a number of additional measures aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of the cleaning procedure.

First of all, you must immediately turn off the power supply and shut off the water supply . After this, you need to tilt the car back a little and place a basin under the lower part of the body, and also stock up on rags to remove water.

Even if the machine is idle for a long time, a certain amount of water still remains inside the machine, which can easily flow out through the hole.

What if the filter doesn't come off?

On most models of Bosch washing machines, the filter can be removed without any problems. But there are times when the filter does not want to be removed, it seems that it is tightly stuck and can only be removed with the help of a heavy tool.

It’s not worth breaking the machine by picking the filter from the front. If it does not unscrew, we will try to remove the “capricious” part by partially disassembling the Bosch washing machine, namely by removing its front wall. By removing the front wall of the housing, we gain access to the drain block: two pipes, the base of the drain hose, a pump and a volute, in which the “capricious” garbage filter is placed. We need to first turn off the power to the washing machine, loosen the clamps on the pipes, remove the pipes and remove the snail along with the filter and pump. Next we proceed like this.

  1. We turn the removed snail with the fitting up.
  2. Move the pump clockwise until it stops.
  3. Squeeze out the locking tab.
  4. Turn the pump clockwise again and remove it.
  5. Having gained access to the internal cavity of the cochlea, we clean it and put the block back together.

In this case, we were able to clean the filter without removing the part itself. In order not to disassemble the machine for repeated cleaning in the future, soak the snail together with the filter in a lubricant like WD-40. The filter thread will oxidize, and it will unscrew easily and naturally.

Step-by-step instruction

Once all preliminary operations have been completed, you can proceed directly to cleaning.

Tools

To carry out all the activities to clean the filter and return the machine to the necessary functionality, you will need a certain set of additional tools:

  • a basin and rags to collect leaking water;
  • knife, screwdriver or anything suitable for prying off the lid;
  • cloths for wiping.

Preparing for cleaning

After ensuring safety and turning off the power, you should finally start preparing the filter. This process involves opening the cap on the washing machine body, draining the water from the hose, and removing the component itself.

To remove the element, you need to unscrew the retaining plug counterclockwise. It is worth remembering that there is water not only in the hose, but also in the seat.

So when removed from the hole, water will flow, which must be quickly collected using rags and a basin.

Process

The cleaning process includes a visual inspection of the filter and drain hole for the presence of various types of contaminants.

Any extraneous items are also removed. Cleaning is completed by wiping the elements with a specially prepared cloth .

Now you need to insert the element back and screw it clockwise until it stops. Then the plug is closed, and all additional containers and rags are removed.

If the housing was raised before cleaning, it must be returned to the desired position.

Why does a washing machine need a drain filter and why does it need to be cleaned?

For a Bosch washing machine, this unit is very important. It stands in the way of dirty water from the tank to the drain pump, which pumps it out. The filter prevents all kinds of debris from getting into the pump and causing it to fail. What kind of debris could be in the water? This is lint, wool and hair that is always found in dirty laundry. In addition, small objects can accidentally get into the tank, and buttons, rivets, rhinestones, etc. sometimes come off from clothing.

All debris accumulates in the drain filter. If it is not removed from there in time, a blockage will form. This causes serious problems:

  1. The water does not drain well, and over time the drain stops functioning altogether. In this case, the pump wears out and quickly fails.
  2. Some of the debris from the filter can get into the pump and simply break it (jam the impeller or damage its blades).
  3. Even if the clog does not reach such a scale as to harm the pump, it can cause an unpleasant odor from the washing machine. This smell is transferred to the laundry during washing.

How often should you clean your Bosch drain filter?

  • As a rule, manufacturers recommend cleaning every 2-3 months.
  • If you wash frequently, the filter may become clogged more quickly. Also, blockages quickly form when washing pile fabrics (flannel, warm knitwear) and when there is pet hair on clothes. In such cases, it is worth cleaning the filter monthly.
  • It is advisable to clean the drain after each wash of products made from natural down (down jackets, pillows), artificial fur (toys, children's blankets), woolen blankets and heavily soiled items.

The need to clean the filter may also be indicated by problems with the operation of the washing machine:

  • the machine began to drain water poorly or does not drain it at all, even forcibly;
  • the drain seems to work, but the laundry doesn’t spin well; repeated spinning may work well, or it may be ineffective;
  • washing stops abruptly in the middle of the cycle and does not resume;
  • Rinse and/or spin programs do not start.

The most accurate recommendations on the frequency of cleaning the filter of a Bosch washing machine are in the instructions for it. The order of the procedure is also indicated there. But you can use our recommendations. We tried to describe everything in as much detail as possible.

Where is the Bosch washing machine drain filter located?

All washing machines have filters next to the drain pump. This is the place at the bottom of the case (regardless of the type of laundry loading - frontal or vertical), usually diagonally from the tray for adding powder. There you can see a small hatch or a small removable panel behind which the drain filter is hidden. Getting there is usually not difficult. But for each brand (and sometimes for individual models of washing machines), the design and location of the drain filter are slightly different.

Look in the summary table where the drain filter of your washing machine is located:

Cleaning the Bosch drain filter step by step
  • Step 1. Prepare a large rag that absorbs moisture well. If you can lift the washer, take a low, flat basin - into it you will pour the water that remains in the drain system. There will be little water (up to 0.5 l).
  • Step 2: Unplug the washing machine.
  • Step 3 : Turn off the water supply valve.
  • Step 4. Having determined where the drain filter is located on your Bosch washing machine, open access to it. Remove the hatch (decorative panel). Pull it towards you, and if that doesn’t work, try moving it from right to left. The lid may be easy to open by hand, but sometimes the latches hold tightly. In this case, you will have to use a screwdriver or knife. Just be careful not to damage the fragile plastic! Lightly lift the lid and set it aside.
  • Step 5. Place a rag on the floor under the filter or place a prepared container, lifting the body of the machine. Many washing machine models have a special emergency hose for draining remaining water. It is located near the drain filter and is closed with a plug. The hose must be removed from the fastener, opened and lowered into the container. When the water flows out, it must be closed and replaced. After draining this way, there will still be some water left in the filter, so do not remove the rag.
  • Step 6: Remove the drain filter. To avoid flooding the floor, do it gradually - first unscrew the part a quarter turn and let the liquid drain. Next, unscrew the assembly completely and pull it out. Interestingly, some models of washing machines have a plug in front of the filter itself. It is unscrewed and the water is allowed to drain, and only then the filter is removed.
  • Step 7: Thoroughly clean the removed filter. Remove any large debris from it, and then wipe off the residue with the abrasive side of a clean kitchen sponge. Rinse the part under the tap with clean warm (not hot!) water. There is no need to use detergents. Cleaning chemicals, like hot water, can damage the plastic and rubber seal of the filter.
  • Step 8: Clean the filter hole and drain pump in your washing machine. Remove any remaining debris and wipe accessible surfaces with a damp sponge. Look inside the drain pump (it's better to shine a flashlight there). If debris or threads wound around the impeller are visible, they must be carefully removed. Also try how the pump impeller rotates. It should turn easily - if the blades get stuck, it may mean there is still a blockage in the pump. Try to remove it carefully yourself, and if that doesn't work, contact a Bosch repair specialist.
  • Step 9: Reinstall the cleaned filter. Make sure it stands up straight and tight. When tightening the plug, do not overdo it so as not to strip the threads of the soft plastic.
  • Step 10. Be sure to check how the machine works after cleaning. Turn it on, turn on the water and run a short rinse cycle. You need to make sure that there is no water leaking near the filter. If streams or even individual droplets begin to flow out around it, you will have to deal with this problem (read below how exactly).
  • Step 11. After making sure that there are no leaks near the installed filter, close it with a decorative hatch (panel). Now the machine can be put in place, connected and used.
Possible problems when cleaning the filter of a Bosch washing machine
What happenedWhy did it happenWhat to do
The filter is stuck and cannot be unscrewed, or has been unscrewed but cannot be removed.The unit had not been cleaned for a long time, and the threads were “overgrown” with scale. Or a large object is stuck across it - a button, a hairpin, a coin, a dense accumulation of lint. First, try unscrewing the part with pliers. They will give a little more effort. But do not overdo it so as not to break the plastic part. If pliers do not help, you will have to clean the filter through a pump. To do this, remove the housing wall, disconnect the wiring, then the drain hose fasteners and pull out the pump. Once cleaned through the hole, the filter should come out easily. But this cleaning method will already require certain knowledge about the design of the Bosch washing machine. It is better to entrust this work to a specialist.
After cleaning, the installed filter allows water to pass through and the machine flows. This can happen immediately (during a test wash) or after several work cycles. The filter is not installed correctly - unevenly or loosely.Disconnect the washing machine from the network and water supply again, remove any remaining water from the drain system. Then tighten the filter more tightly or remove it and install it straight.
Broken thread.Screwing the filter plug in too tightly can damage the plastic threads. Replacing the filter itself or the filter together with the volute (the entire threaded pair) will help. In the latter case, it is better to invite a master.
Damaged seal. The reason may be aging of the rubber (the gasket dries out and cracks), as well as careless cleaning (use of sharp objects, hot water). The rubber sealing gasket must be replaced. Sometimes it is impossible to change only the seal; in such cases, the entire filter is replaced.

Instructions

Cleaning a Bosch filter is a simple task that can be done on your own, even without special skills. You just need to prepare for the procedure.

Selecting Tools

No special tools are required for cleaning . To access the unit in a Bosch top-loading washing machine, you will need a pencil or screwdriver.

To clean the drain filter in a horizontal-loading washing machine, you need to prepare rags and a low bowl in advance to collect the remaining water from the washing machine.

In rare cases, when the filter has not been cleaned for a long time and is literally welded, you may need pliers or another tool to more conveniently grip the not very protruding handle.

Preparation

Before you begin cleaning work, you must:

  1. Free the drum from laundry and foreign objects.
  2. Disconnect the device from the power supply.
  3. Shut off the water supply.

It is necessary to provide convenient access to the filter (for front-loading washing machines - from the front, for vertical washing machines - from the top).

Process

Depending on the type of load of the Bosch washing machine, the cleaning process differs. But in all cases it is not complicated.

Vertical loading

For Bosch top-loading washing machines, the cleaning process does not result in water spilling onto the floor, unlike front-loading washing machines. But at the same time, removing the filter has its own nuances.

To access the node you need:

  • open the drum doors;
  • At the bottom of the drum you need to find a protruding part that serves to grab the laundry as it rotates and distribute things evenly.

Using a screwdriver or pencil, remove the laundry grabber using the following algorithm:

  1. A pin-shaped object (screwdriver, pencil) is inserted into the hole.
  2. Tilt the inserted object down and at the same time push it to the right until the part moves out of the lock.
  3. Remove the laundry grabber.

Further actions:

  • turn the washing machine drum forward;
  • take out the filter;
  • clean the removed part under running water;
  • return the removed element to its original place;
  • Reinstall the removed laundry grip - to do this, slide it into place until it clicks.

Horizontal loading

It is convenient to clean the Bosch filter by tilting the washing machine slightly towards the rear wall. But you can leave it in its original position.

Procedure:

  1. Remove the panel that covers the drain filter at the bottom of the front of the washing machine.
  2. If the model has a hose for emergency drainage, it is advisable to use it by removing the plug and directing the free end into a container prepared in advance.
  3. After the water has been drained, carefully turn the handle counterclockwise. You need to act carefully.
  4. In models that do not have a hose for emergency drainage, you need to immediately start unscrewing the handle, and water will flow straight from under it.
  5. Pull out the filter.
  6. Inspect the removed part itself and the seat in which it was located. If foreign objects are found, they must be removed and the dirt must be wiped off.
  7. Clean the filter and rinse it under the tap or in a basin.
  8. If the removed element is very dirty, it can be cleaned additionally with a brush and rinsed in a solution of citric acid.
  9. Wipe the part with a cloth.
  10. After cleaning, the filter must be installed in its original place, carefully screwing it into the thread.
  11. Reinstall the decorative panel.

Removing the drain and fill filter

The inlet filter cannot be removed for cleaning. Dirt and rust from water pipes that get onto the mesh are removed with a toothbrush. To clean, turn off the tap and unscrew the water supply hose. In case of mechanical damage, the mesh must be replaced. It comes off easily. Using pliers, you need to remove the retaining ring, remove the filter element and replace it with a new one.

The manufacturer does not recommend working without it, since dirt can get under the shut-off element of the solenoid valve and break its tightness. As a result, water will constantly flow into the tank.

To remove the drain filter, you need to open the hatch or remove the decorative panel, drain the remaining water from the pipes of the unit into a prepared container and unscrew the lid of the device. Then pull it towards you and remove the part from the shaft. The debris is removed and the device is washed with running water. Cleaning is carried out not only to the filter, but also to the internal cavity of the shaft.

What to do if the part does not unscrew

During long-term operation of the washing machine, a situation may arise when it is impossible to unscrew the filter cover. This happens when a foreign object gets into the pump body or deposits of detergents and scale form on the threads of the part. There are two ways to fix the problem: try to unscrew the cover using pliers or dismantle the pump along with the drainage unit.

If the filter cannot be unscrewed using tools, then you cannot do without removing the pump.

To do this you need:

  1. Disconnect the unit from the power supply, water supply and drainage.
  2. Unscrew the screws securing the drainage unit.
  3. Place the machine on its side so that the pump is on top.
  4. Remove the bottom of the unit to gain access to the drainage unit.
  5. Disconnect the hoses - first the drain, then the suction and remove any remaining water.
  6. Disconnect the power connector from the pump motor.
  7. Remove the assembly

The internal cavity of the device will be accessible through the suction pipe. If a foreign object is visible, it can be removed using available means. After removing it, the assembly must be shaken to determine whether everything has been removed from the cavity. Then try turning the pump blades. If they do not rotate, then the hydraulic part may be clogged. To clean it, you need to unscrew the screws on the housing on the engine side and separate the parts. When the debris has been removed, the drainage unit is assembled and installed in place.

Where is the filter located?

By looking at the front panel of the Bosch washing machine, you can determine the location of the filter through which the liquid is drained. In the first Bosch machines, the filter was not covered with a lid and protruded outward. Today, in different Bosch models, the drain filter can be installed:

  • maxx 4, maxx 5, maxx 6 – the drain point is located at the bottom, and the mesh of the water intake hose is located at the point where it is connected to the unit body;
  • behind a rectangular cover at the bottom right, which is easy to find on the front panel. It is easily picked up by any sharp object;
  • sometimes the drain filter of a Bosch washing machine is hidden behind a round hatch (location is the same as in the previous version), which opens with light pressure;
  • there are options in which the filter is covered with a narrow panel located at the bottom of the MCA and secured with three latches that open alternately;
  • classic 5 – a model with a frontal option for storing laundry. The filter point is located at the bottom left, hidden behind a round or rectangular lid, and is removed in the same way as in cases with devices that feature vertical loading.

What should I do to remove the filter?

If you cannot unscrew the filter in the usual way, you should pay attention to other methods. But before actual dismantling, it is worth preparing. First of all, we disconnect the washing machine from the power supply and turn off the water, and then we cover the surrounding area with rags and prepare a container for collecting water . Then we proceed sequentially according to the following instructions.

  1. Prepare pliers or round nose pliers.
  2. We hook the handle of the filter plug.
  3. Carefully try to unscrew the filter.

You should not press with all your might - you must act carefully and not break the spare part.

If it does not twist out, we change tactics: we tilt the body of the machine back by 45 degrees so as to lean the body against the wall. We clench our hand into a fist and knock on the filter several times. There is a high chance that blocking debris, bra wires, coins or hair clips, will move out of place and make it easier to unscrew.

When the previous options do not work, we turn to the most difficult and effective method: clean the filter from the other side - through the hole under the pump. To do this, you will have to get to the snail itself and remove the drainage pump. You will need knowledge of the machine's structure, so if you are unsure of your abilities, it is better not to experiment and contact service professionals. If the upcoming manipulations do not frighten you, follow the instructions below.

  1. a basin is installed;
  2. the lid opens, hiding the part we need;
  3. On the right is the filter itself, on the left is a short sleeve through which the liquid is drained. It should be pulled out, the plug removed, and the water drained;
  4. Now it’s time to dismantle the filter element. The plug is unscrewed in the direction opposite to the movement of the clock hand. In this case, several revolutions are performed;
  5. the remaining liquid is drained, you inspect the niche from the inside, check the filter element, clean and rinse it;
  6. wipe the landing niche with a rag;
  7. the part is installed in its place, screwed until it stops;
  8. close the hatch, remove the basin, return the Bosch washing machine to its original position.

How to wash the filter on a Samsung vending machine

It often happens that the drain filter, which is located at the bottom right under the panel, becomes clogged. The part itself looks like a plug with a special handle that must be unscrewed, then it should be pulled out of the hole and rinsed thoroughly, removing all dirt.

After all the procedures, the part must be inserted into place until it stops; it must fit tightly. If this is not monitored, there may be leaks in the future. It is recommended to perform such actions at least once a year.

What to do if it is impossible to unscrew the filter?

Most often, this element is removed without much difficulty. However, there have been cases in which the filter was not removed, as if it was firmly stuck, and you will have to use special tools to remove it.

Now we proceed in the following sequence:

  • we place the snail removed from the Bosch washing machine with the fitting facing the ceiling;
  • move the pump all the way in a clockwise direction;
  • the stopper in the form of a mustache must be squeezed out;
  • turn the pump again in the direction of the arrow to pull it out;
  • access to the insides of the cochlea has opened, which must be cleaned and the block assembled in the reverse order.

What to do if the filter leaks after cleaning

The main reason for water leakage in the drainage unit is incomplete closing of the lid. To eliminate the leak, you need to completely unscrew the filter, inspect the gasket and check the threads for cleanliness. Then install the removable part in place and tighten it tightly. However, you should not use excessive force.

If the filter does not open, it means it was installed askew. In this case, the lid must be unscrewed carefully, as there is a high probability of its breakage. It is extremely rare that the cause of leaks is damage to the gasket. But if such a situation arises, then the seal needs to be replaced. Due to the fact that special rubber is used in this unit, you should not install a homemade seal, as it may fail at the wrong time.

If the device was cleaned from the pump side, you should check the correct installation of the crimp clamps on the nozzles. If the work was carried out carelessly, the body of the drainage unit could be damaged. Such a defect can only be corrected in a specialized workshop.
