teapots
Not all manufacturers of small household appliances produce advanced equipment of this level. It has only recently begun to become widespread, so the brands can be counted on one hand.
REDMOND
. A brand that is always one of the first to produce innovative, technologically advanced models of small household and kitchen appliances. At the moment, it offers the widest range of “smart kettles”.
Xiaomi
. The Chinese brand is also known as a manufacturer of unusual functional goods. Its teapots are recognizable, made in the company’s classic laconic design and are easy to use.
Polaris
. A less popular Russian brand that also strives for innovative solutions. In its assortment you can currently find only a few “smart” kettles.
Kitfort
. A popular brand whose technology is designed to make life easier. Offers the most modern products, including “smart” kettles at an affordable price.
Operating principle of remote controlled kettles
Smart technology at home is an opportunity to make your life easier and conduct household chores with pleasure.
It is not only beautiful, but also functional, very convenient, and allows you to spend less time on cleaning and cooking. Smart kettles, like other high-tech smart appliances, make life much easier. They have a lot of useful functions, from maintaining the temperature at the desired level to high safety indicators (for example, they have a lid lock), and a number of models even allow you to control yourself directly through an application installed on your smartphone. In this case, you can remotely select the time to turn on the kettle, start boiling, adjust the temperature - in some cases, even from the other side of the world.
On a note! A number of smart devices can also be equipped with radio, alarm, timer, etc. functions.
How does a smart or smart kettle work? In general, it works from the mains in exactly the same way as a regular one: you need to plug the plug from the stand into a socket, pour water into the kettle flask. But to turn it on, in some cases you can use not a standard button on the case, but an application on the mobile phone with which the device is connected. You can also set other settings there.
For those models that do not have the function of pairing with a phone, all settings are set on the kettle itself or on a special platform. But in general, you can set the switch on at a certain time, the heating temperature level, and program other parameters in the same way.
On a note! A smart kettle is the best option for a busy person who has no time to be distracted from work even to turn on the kettle, or for parents who have many children. By the way, thanks to the thermoregulation function, smart kettles allow you to immediately heat water for baby formula to the desired temperature without overheating it.
How to choose a “smart” kettle?
The choice of such equipment in stores is not yet very large, but it is still there, and when purchasing, I would like not to make a mistake with the model. In addition to the main criteria that are relevant for conventional electric kettles, it is worth paying attention to a few more points.
Kettles are currently produced only by a few serious manufacturers. Here you should avoid unfamiliar Chinese brands that you are hearing about for the first time. The minimum that a thoughtless purchase of such a model can lead to is an application that does not work correctly or is completely unusable.
Application
. Please note that the application for controlling equipment is Russified and extremely understandable. Otherwise, it will be difficult to understand the functionality of the device.
Functionality
. Here, each user selects a model for himself. Some smart kettles can work in a smart home system, automatically fill with water when you press a button, and maintain a certain temperature.
How does it work?
And now many have asked the question of how such a device actually works. The answer is quite simple, because all the “smart technology” lies in the built-in program, as well as the interface and connection via Wi-FI and Bluetooth. Your smartphone running an operating system supported by the kettle gives a specific signal to perform standard tasks using the application.
Tips for choosing
On sale you can find devices with a capacity of 1.5 to 2.1 liters. In addition, other parameters are important:
- The presence of a thermostat. This technique will heat water at a given temperature - from warm to very hot.
- Presence of a sound signal. This function will notify you that the kettle has boiled.
- Filter material. It is best if it is made of nylon fiber. Its fine grid will qualitatively clean the water from impurities and particles.
- Type of heating element. It can be either closed or open. Experts recommend choosing the first option.
Be sure to pay attention to the manufacturer of this unit. Devices produced under the brands Samsung, Redmond, Bosch, Philips, etc. have good characteristics.
When to use a thermopot instead of a regular kettle?
Many people are interested in how smart thermopot kettles work, and how they differ from regular ones? Unlike the usual kitchen assistant, such a modern device performs two functions at once: it heats the liquid and keeps its temperature at a constant level for up to 16 hours. The water in this device will take longer to heat up than in a regular kettle. Boiling time takes approximately 5 to 25 minutes depending on the volume of liquid poured.
This smart device is suitable for an office or a large family where hot water is constantly required. It is also advisable to buy a thermopot for a dacha, where there may be interruptions in hot water or electricity. By heating the water once, you can provide yourself with it for the whole day.
Description of the heating temperature adjustment function
On sale you can find smart kettles with different types of thermostats: stepless and stepped. In the first option, a high-frequency resistor is responsible for the operation. It is he who helps change the temperature regime. A thermostat operating on a step principle is manufactured with a preset heating step. This setting cannot be changed.

Digest of reviews of electric kettles tested in the iXBT.com laboratory in 2021
Faced with the need to purchase a new household appliance, the user inevitably has to become an expert in a particular field. Of course, you can always rely on the recommendations of a consultant in a store or trust the reputation of a popular brand, but these methods often lead to frankly unsatisfactory results. As well as studying numerous user reviews (many of which, as you know, are advertising or paid).
An adequate solution may be to study articles on specialized resources and materials from professional reviewers, but this will require considerable time.
Especially for those who want to get an objective opinion about household appliances, but are not ready to study multi-page texts, we decided to release a series of digest reviews of kitchen appliances that were tested in the iXBT.com laboratory.
The topic of today's digest is electric kettles and thermopots. What are they, how do they differ, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of modern models on the market? Let's figure it out.
When researching kettles, we are interested in several main characteristics that most strongly influence the daily operation of the device. First of all, these are, of course, objective parameters: how much electricity does the kettle spend to heat a liter of water and how quickly does it cope with this task? If the device has the ability to heat up to a certain temperature, we check how adequately it copes with this task. Finally, we evaluate the overall usability of the kettle and share our subjective impressions.
In this review, we will only mention the main characteristics of the devices, and more detailed information can always be found by following the links to reviews and tests provided in the article. A comparative table of characteristics of the teapots selected for this article is given at the end of the article.
Kitfort KT-674
Kitfort KT-674 is a stylish and functional “2 in 1” kettle, consisting of a kettle, a teapot with a filter for brewing and a base. Using this device you can not only boil water, but also brew tea.
The kettle itself looks quite standard: the body of the device is made of stainless steel and has the shape of a truncated cone. The flask is made of heat-resistant glass. Kitfort KT-674 has four heating modes. These are Green Tea (70°C), White Tea (80°C), Oolong Tea (90°C) and Black Tea (100°C).
You can install an infuser on the kettle. This is a similar structure to the main lid with a movable rod, on which a container for brewing is attached using a threaded lid - it can be fixed in two positions, upper and lower. The cylindrical container is made of thin stainless steel and has micro-holes on the side and bottom.
For those who prefer traditional tea without any mechanisms, Kitfort KT-674 is equipped with a separate teapot, made in the same design as the entire device: a stainless steel body, a heat-resistant glass flask and a black plastic handle. For heating, the teapot can be installed on the main kettle instead of the lid.
In general, if we evaluate the device as a whole, then Kitfort KT-674 is primarily a device for brewing tea. It performs this function perfectly and is suitable for all types of this drink. The ability to choose the brewing time and water temperature allows you to quickly and easily prepare tea of the desired strength, preserving its aroma and bringing out the best taste. The only thing the device lacks is the ability to manually select the heating temperature, but the built-in settings will, in our opinion, satisfy most consumers.
Redmond RK-CBM147
Redmond has turned the Redmond RK-CBM147 into a steampunk interior decoration. Both the case material (chrome and copper) and the mechanical thermometer with a round temperature scale seem to work. It is worth noting that the teapot looks very beautiful.
The body of the device is made of stainless steel with a decorative coating of an unusual and attractive color - black chrome with a slightly noticeable copper tint. The walls are slightly matted: the horizontal micro-relief retains the gloss of the coating, but fingerprints and random dirt are much less noticeable on it than on a smooth polished surface.
The plastic base of the kettle is trimmed with a decorative metal strip with a similar structure, but of a different color - like old bronze.
The most noticeable part of the case is the analog thermometer. The color scheme of the metal parts of the kettle in combination with the dial, reminiscent of devices from the times of steam and coal, looks harmonious and is designed to please fans of steampunk. The RK-CBM147 dial thermometer with a mechanical sensor is not a funny anachronism in the world of LED indicators and LCD panels, but a thoughtful, albeit rather unexpected design solution.
Otherwise, this is a very ordinary kettle that boils water and turns off when it reaches 100 degrees. Among the minor drawbacks, we note, perhaps, low thermal insulation: the water in such a kettle cools down very quickly.
Redmond RK-G1304D
Redmond RK-G1304D is an unusual model, which (according to the developers from the Redmond company) is suitable not only for boiling water, but also for brewing tea, cooking soup, melting chocolate and preparing sauces. For this purpose, the RK-G1304D is equipped with a set of a jar and a stand, a mesh for brewing, and also has two additional modes: boiling and simmering.
All “additional” modes are implemented using a special glass cooking flask, in which you can prepare broth, chocolate or cheese fondue, baby food and other dishes that require a water bath. The flask consists of a complex-shaped steel stand with two long “ears” for removal and legs in order to leave a layer of water under the bottom of the jar.
Despite the fact that this design looks strange and unusual, the Redmond RK-G1304D kettle has proven itself to be a good household appliance for an office or room where there is no other device for preparing and heating food: the kettle will allow you to prepare a portion of soup or soufflé or reheat ready-made I'm going. This device will also come in handy for mothers who need to constantly make fresh food for their child or reheat ready-made food. It is also useful for those who are on a strict diet (for example, the first table) and do not want to burden the rest of the family with their cereals, purees and steamed cutlets.
If we consider this model exclusively as a kettle, then in this capacity the Redmond RK-G1304D does not cause any complaints and works great. Although not too fast (the power of the device is low).
Gemlux GL-EK611GL
Gemlux GL-EK611GL is a relatively inexpensive but stylish Gemlux GL-EK611GL kettle with a transparent glass bulb and several temperature settings.
In general, we have before us a simple and trouble-free device with which you can boil water or heat it to one of the “built-in” temperatures - 70 °C, 80 °C, 90 °C, 100 °C. The kettle is set to the desired temperature quite accurately: the discrepancy, according to our measurements, was no more than 1-2 degrees.
As for maintaining the temperature, it is especially nice that this mode is not reset when the kettle is briefly removed from the base. That is, you can add hot water to the mug and return the kettle to reheat without pressing additional buttons.
Kitfort KT-691
The Kitfort KT-691 electric kettle is made of heat-resistant ceramics coated with glaze and looks like a classic teapot, enlarged several times. The handle and spout of the device are integral with the body.
The ceramic body of the teapot we received for testing (KT-691-2) is decorated with a decorative print - waterfowl are depicted on both sides. For those who do not like ducks or prefer household appliances without patterns, Kitfort offers a white, undecorated version of the same model.
The kettle turned out to be compact, but small in volume and quite heavy. He knows how to boil water... and that's it.
The only undoubted advantage of such a device is its appearance, which, apparently, should be chosen among other kettles on store shelves.
Kitfort KT-693
Kitfort KT-693 is another “designer” kettle from Kitfort. It differs from the previous model by a slightly larger (1.5) volume, high (up to 2200 W) power, a two-layer body (plastic on the outside, stainless steel on the inside) and a rather unusual, “modern” design.
The body of the Kitfort KT-693 kettle has the shape of a truncated cone and a two-layer design: plastic on the outside, inside it is made of stainless steel. The double body is designed to maintain the temperature of the water in the kettle longer. The outer cover of the kettle is made of white plastic (according to the manufacturer’s website, this model also has other colors) with decorative embossing in the form of triangles of different sizes.
During testing, we found out that the two-layer casing, as stated by the manufacturer, has very good thermal insulation: even three hours after boiling, the water in the kettle remained quite hot (precise temperature measurements are given in the article), and it turned out to be almost impossible to get burned on the casing.
The power of the kettle we measured fits well with the plug declared by the manufacturer, but the usable volume turned out to be 110 ml less. Otherwise, the device did not cause any complaints.
Redmond SkyKettle RK-M216S
Redmond SkyKettle RK-M216S is an example of a “smart kettle”. According to the manufacturer, it can work remotely, adjust the backlight according to the water temperature or at the user’s request, heat the water to a given temperature, and even play educational games with the owner.
The kettle control panel, located on the top side of the lid, has only two buttons: the power button and “±”. The first turns the device on and off, using the second you can select the water heating temperature from four fixed values: 40, 55, 70 and 85 °C.
As for remote control, you will need a phone with an installed application (for Android or iOS). It can run several preset scenarios (black tea, oolong tea, green tea, yellow tea, white tea and baby food) with temperatures of 90, 85, 80, 75, 70 and 35 °C respectively. If this is not enough for the owner, by clicking on the switch under the mode icons, he can select the exact heating temperature, up to one degree.
The application also gives us the ability to control the small LED strip that adorns the handle of the device. The always-on backlight turns the kettle into an entertaining night light, the color and brightness of which can be changed as desired. Within the same limits, you can control the color of the indicator when boiling the kettle, adjusting the color range depending on the temperature of the water in the device.
In general, this gadget, in our opinion, turned out to be practically devoid of shortcomings (except, of course, for the price). The new SkyKettle perfectly retains heat in passive mode and is economical when maintaining a given water temperature. The accuracy of its temperature sensor allows you to prepare your favorite drink, strictly adhering to the recipe and allowing the aroma and taste of the most exquisite varieties of tea to reveal themselves.
Redmond RK-G1308D
Redmond RK-G1308D - by all indications it could lay claim to the role of an ideal kettle. We immediately noticed several signs that, in our opinion, are signs of a “correct” device: a completely removable lid of the simplest design, a glass flask (an ideal water level indicator that does not require any indicators at all), and many neat touch buttons on the base.
Surprises showed up where we did not expect them: the fact is that the buttons next to which the corresponding temperatures are written work somewhat differently than usual. Unlike almost all other kettles, in this model, when you press any button (except 100 °C), the kettle first boils water and then turns on the mode of maintaining a certain temperature for 2 hours. As a result, when you press a button with a specified temperature value, you do not get water at the specified temperature as a result - you always get boiling water, and then find yourself forced to wait for it to cool down. The 40 °C button turns out to be completely meaningless: heating works for a maximum of 2 hours, and in 2 hours at room temperature the water in the kettle cools down only to 51 °C.
We can recommend such a device only to those users who are not bothered by such features - perhaps someone will even find them convenient and more suitable for their personal habits.
Kitfort KT-689
Kitfort KT-689 is a special type of electric kettle, namely a kettle for making coffee. This device is the closest relative of a regular kettle for boiling water. The main differences are a smaller volume, a specific shape (primarily the presence of a long thin spout, a “gooseneck”) and the ability to accurately control the water temperature.
With the help of Kitfort KT-689 you can prepare coffee using pour over and Chemex, as well as brew specific types of teas that require not boiling water, but hot water at a strictly certain temperature to reveal the taste.
During testing, we were completely satisfied with this device: the Kitfort KT-689 kettle turned out to be attractive, easy to use and, most importantly, an accurate device that can quickly provide the user with hot water at the required temperature in a volume of 0.5 to 1 liter. It can be safely recommended to advanced coffee and tea lovers, for whom control of the water temperature when preparing the drink is important.
As a separate advantage, we note a well-thought-out interface, thanks to which the user is freed from the need to set the desired temperature every time when preparing several identical portions of the drink (the kettle “remembers” the last temperature setting). And, of course, it’s nice to be able to find out at any time what the temperature of the water in the kettle is (including directly while heating the water) - for this, the kettle has a special LED display.
Bosch TWK1201N
This model (Bosch TWK1201N), unfortunately, is not so easy to find on sale. It’s a pity: after all, it was loved by many users (including iXBT readers) thanks to its extremely successful design. Moreover, many readers called this kettle, without exaggeration, the most ideal of all ever released. Some even managed to buy several of these teapots - for home, relatives, work, etc.
The Bosch TWK1201N was released over 10 years ago, but still gets rave reviews thanks to its simplicity and reliability, as well as its all-metal bulb.
What is especially interesting is that during testing, the Bosch TWK1201N kettle did not show sky-high results: the already not the highest power, declared at 1800 W, in real conditions turned out to be slightly less than 1700 W. As a result, the water in it boils a little longer than in cheaper and slightly more powerful modern kettles. On the other hand, such power will allow you not to worry about whether the wiring will withstand the load.
The obvious conclusion we can draw from the phenomenal popularity of this model is that users primarily value reliability and convenience, rather than high boiling speed.
Smeg KLF04PKEU
Household appliances produced under the Smeg brand have a characteristic, recognizable design (“retro” by default, or thematic in collaborations with famous designers). Smeg products are also famous for their high prices: beauty is expensive! The Smeg KLF04PKEU kettle was no exception.
Visually, the kettle makes a truly excellent impression. A streamlined body without sharp corners, plastic elements designed to look like chromed metal, a chopped logo font - all this really looks in the spirit of the 50s. We immediately remembered the ZIL Moscow refrigerator with its characteristic shapes and handle “like a car” (by the way, Smeg also has refrigerators in a similar style).
The kettle is controlled using two mechanical buttons with LED backlight and a mechanical lever. On the side of the base there are seven white LED indicators corresponding to temperatures of 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 95 and 100 degrees, respectively. The mechanical lever performs the function of the −/+ buttons, allowing you to set the desired temperature (in this case, the kettle remembers the last settings).
According to the results of our tests, the kettle adequately fulfilled its task in all modes, did not make too many mistakes when heating water to the set temperature, and showed good (but far from the best) results in terms of the speed of boiling the test portion of water. Of the obvious shortcomings, we can only note the discrepancy between the declared and actual power (with a declared 2.4 kW, we did not see values more than 2 kW on our wattmeter), as well as a strange temperature maintenance mode, which automatically stops working after just 20 minutes.
Xiaomi MiJia Smart Kettle
Xiaomi MiJia Smart Kettle is not a new, but still popular smart kettle from the “Chinese Apple” - the Xiaomi company.
This device with a minimalist design will look good in any interior, and can also be integrated into the Xiaomi smart home system. The kettle's flask is completely made of steel, which means there are no leaks.
As for remote control, everything is not so simple: Xiaomi traditionally has difficulties with localization (and if you order a kettle on Aliexpress or another similar platform, it is possible that you will have to “communicate” with the device in Chinese).
Therefore, we cannot recommend such a device to everyone. This is more of a teapot “for geeks” than for “ordinary people”. But if you like to tinker with technology and figure out how this or that device works, then you are unlikely to be scared by such difficulties.
After all, thanks to the application, you can not only set the temperature, but also at any time open the corresponding applet in MiHome (if the kettle is within range of your Bluetooth) and see what temperature the water in the kettle is at the moment. True, you won’t be able to start the kettle remotely: after selecting settings from your smartphone, you still have to go up and press the button on the device.
As a “bonus” there is a double casing for improved thermal insulation. The main disadvantage is the inability to control the water level without opening the lid.
conclusions
Choosing a kettle for your home is still a pressing issue for most people. And this despite the fact that everyone has been familiar with electric kettles for a long time and, it would seem, there shouldn’t be any questions left.
Our experience suggests that users put reliability first (kettles with an all-metal flask, where leaks are excluded, are extremely popular). Convenience comes in second place - many are accustomed to the ability to heat water to a certain temperature or turn on the water temperature maintenance mode. And therefore, if the kettle has such a mode and is actively used, then it should work properly (including the convenience of the user interface: the fewer buttons you have to press, the better).
But the speed of boiling water, although an important parameter, is inferior in priority to convenience. Roughly speaking, the user is more likely to choose a more convenient, but “slow” kettle, than a “fast” one, but causing even minor difficulties.
Finally, all kinds of kettles with remote control via a smartphone (for example, via Bluetooth), in our opinion, remain in the sphere of interests of geeks and lovers of something unusual. Perhaps the fact is that all kinds of “smart home” systems today are not sufficiently automated and not coordinated with each other (we just have to wait for the appearance of an automatic control system that works correctly “out of the box”).
Nevertheless, among the “smart” kettles there are very interesting models that deserve attention.

smart kettle Redmond SkyKettle RK-G201S
Which electric kettle manufacturer is the best?
Global brands of household appliances such as Bosch, Philips, Delonghi, Tefal, Panasonic are able to provide high-quality assembly and service, and are attentive to safety and energy efficiency.
The country of manufacture of the kettle “China” does not always mean poor quality, but almost always means a low price. Electric kettles Scarlett (a brand with Russian roots, and production is located in China) and Supra have proven themselves well.
Domestic manufacturers are good because their kettles are aimed at the Russian buyer (for example, in volume 1.5-2 liters instead of European liter ones).
Redmond M171S
Electric kettle with electronic control. The case is made of stainless steel. There are 13 operating modes. The maximum volume is standard – 1.7 liters. Equipped with an alarm clock with a pleasant signal. The heating element is disk, which simplifies descaling.
How does remote control work? You need two gadgets - the main one and the home one, which will transmit commands from the main one directly to the kettle via Bluetooth.
The Ready for Sky mobile application is installed on the main smartphone. Download R4S Gateway to your phone or tablet that stays at home. Don't forget to connect it to the Internet and activate the Bluetooth module.
Log in to the R4S Gateway software using the same account as in Ready for Sky for authorization. Swipe down from top to bottom and you will see your smart kettle in the list. Perform synchronization. Now you can control the device at any distance, transferring information from the main device to the home device, and then via Bluetooth to the electric kettle.
Main functions:
- Heating degree – 30-95 degrees;
- The set temperature is maintained for up to 12 hours;
- On timer;
- Boil shutdown;
- Shutdown when there is little water.
I tried to find a model with Wi-Fi. Did not find. Although when I try to search, the Redmond SkyKettle M170S pops up. But when studying it, it is clear that the Bluetooth module is used there again.
Redmond household appliances are controlled using two gadgets. Therefore, it would be wrong to call them Wi-Fi kettles (my personal opinion).
