Rating of TOP 13 motherboards for Ryzen 5 and 7 (2700, 3600, 3800, 5600X): review and characteristics of the best models

Criteria for choosing a motherboard for CPU Ryzen

Important! Choosing a motherboard for Ryzen processors involves a number of factors that you should pay close attention to:

  • Manufacturer. In addition to personal preferences, it is worth considering the reliability and popularity of the brand. Among the best are ASRock, MSI, Gigabyte, Asus.
  • Socket. The best option is AM4. The socket supports the most modern and popular processors from AMD.
  • RAM. Modern motherboards support DDR4 memory type. This is the best option today. For an office computer, 32 GB of RAM will be sufficient, for a gaming computer - 128 GB of RAM.
  • Expansion slots and connectors. M.2, PCI-E, SATA slots, RAM slots, and USB ports should be sufficient for the tasks at hand. Also, a little reserve for the future never hurts.
  • Chipset. The brand of chipset determines what processor capabilities will be available. For Ryzen 9 and 7, the best option is the X570. In the case of the R5, this is the B450 chipset.

In addition, let us mention once again that the A320M PRO-VD PLUS, A320M PRO-VH PLUS and A320M PRO-VHL motherboards are not equipped with an M.2 slot. It turns out that all 3 boards lack a very convenient and modern interface.

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS ELITE

This is the first model from this manufacturer that is worthy of installing a 3rd generation Ryzen processor with a beautiful design and backlighting.

A powerful power supply and large radiators allow you to install and overclock top-end processors without any restrictions on models. There will also be no problems with installing fast RAM and overclocking the memory.

With sound, everything here is standard at the level of high-quality gaming motherboards. But a network chip from Intel is soldered here, which provides additional opportunities for traffic pyritization and allows you to get less ping in games. But this is all if you have a good router and ideal quality of the route to the game server, otherwise the difference with the Realtek chip is unlikely to be noticeable. Therefore, this may not be considered a significant advantage.

A colossal number of full-size USB connectors is good, but for some reason there was no room for the fashionable Type-C. Apparently Gigabyte understands its dubious usefulness and pointedly ignored this trend.

Additional features include a heatsink for the M.2 slot and the presence of reset and BIOS flash buttons on the rear panel. But when you purchase a powerful power system, you lose the Wi-Fi that was in the previous motherboard. Here everyone decides for himself what is more important to him - overclocking powerful processors or Wi-Fi (in my opinion, Wi-Fi for a PC is a questionable thing) or is it worth paying attention to another motherboard with powerful power and Wi-Fi. GIGABYTE X570 AORUS ELITE motherboard

Middle price segment

What pleases this segment is the opportunity to choose - there are really a lot of good cards, and most importantly, the price for them is far from exorbitant. Needless to say, in the range from 13 to 16 thousand rubles you can find options that are suitable not only for mediocre computers, but also for full-fledged gaming machines. However, as in the previous section, the dominance of Asus and ASRock is felt (this does not mean that other companies do not have worthy cards, it’s just that in comparison with the two above, they are inferior in such an indicator as price/quality, otherwise there are no special differences).

Asus Prime X470-Pro

Price: 13,500 rubles.

This card even looks very attractive from the outside (the classic – white with black and stripes always goes well together, and it also has backlighting), but the main thing is still inside. The motherboard has proven itself to be very good, largely thanks to the AMD X470 chipset, which allows it to be used with processors of many series, including the popular AMD Ryzen 2nd Generation, Athlon X4, Vega Graphics, 7th Generation A-series.

Excellent performance is also demonstrated in operation - good and most importantly stable overclocking is supported, memory can be installed up to 64 GB (maximum frequency up to 3600 Hz), there are sufficient fan connectors.

The main features are the ATX form factor, Socket AM4, 4 DDR4 memory slots with two channels, no video, but the presence of good audio 8-channel HDA codec Realtek S1220A. There are the following slots: PCI-E 2.x x16 – 1; PCI-E 3.0 x16 – 2; PCI-E 2.x x1 – 3.

Asus Prime X470-Pro

  • USB 3.1 Type-A (5 Gbps) – 5;
  • USB 3.1 Type-C (5 Gbps) – 1;
  • USB 2.0 – no;
  • DisplayPort – 1;
  • HDMI – 1;
  • LAN (RJ-45) – 1;
  • S/PDIF – 1;
  • Audio connectors – 5.

There are a lot of reviews about this card on the Internet and almost everyone praises it. The main reasons for this are its pleasant appearance, the presence of many modern connectors, in particular high-speed USB 3.1 Type-A (10 Gbit/s) and USB 3.1 Type-C (5 Gbit/s), as well as the possibility of overclocking.

Advantages:

  • Supports DDR4 RAM memory up to 64 GB;
  • High-speed ports USB 3.1 Type-A (10 Gbps) (x2);
  • Reliability;
  • M2 slots;
  • Possibility of overclocking;
  • Availability of connectors for coolers;
  • Pleasant appearance and lighting;
  • Reinforced PCI ports (useful if the video card is heavy);
  • Many external interfaces.

Flaws:

  • The cooling system could be better;
  • The equipment leaves much to be desired;
  • The proprietary software is not convenient.

Conclusion: When assembling an inexpensive gaming computer, you should pay attention to this motherboard, because its disadvantages are essentially ridiculous, and the price, performance, quality and appearance are at a high level. It’s also worth noting that most users call the card the best in its price range and it’s hard to argue with that.

ASRock X470 Taichi

Price: 16,000 rubles.

Despite the fact that many consider the Prime X470-Pro to be the best mid-price card, there is a completely worthy alternative to it, and it is not much more expensive. The ASRock X470 Taichi is inferior in aspects such as the built-in audio decoder and price, but also has good “sound” from the Creative 7.1 audio system. Among the interesting things, it is worth highlighting 16-phase power supply, an Ethernet controller, the possibility of automatic overclocking and high-speed SATA 6Gb/s for exchanging information with data storage devices.

Interesting features: it runs on the X470 chipset, supports memory with a frequency of 3600 MHz up to 64 GB (4 slots available), has a compact size (ATX form factor) and Socket AM4. There are slots: PCIe 3.0 x16 – 2, PCIe 3.0 x16 – 1, PCIe 2.0 x1 – 3.

ASRock X470 Taichi

  • Port for PS/2 keyboard – 1, for mouse – 1;
  • USB 3.0 – 6;
  • LAN (RJ-45) – 1;
  • Audio connectors (mini jack) – 5.

This card is not very popular, and you can’t find it in every store, however, according to many experts and owners of the ASRock X470 Taichi, it can easily withstand competition with even more expensive analogues, largely due to its excellent reliability and functionality.

Advantages:

  • Supports DDR4 RAM memory up to 64 GB;
  • High reliability;
  • Possibility of automatic acceleration;
  • There are profiles with memory overclocking data;
  • Good Creative 7.1 sound;
  • 16-phase power supply;
  • There is an Ethernet controller.

Flaws:

  • Slower USB 3.0 than the competitor from Asus.

Conclusion: A very interesting model, although not very popular, but for its ideal price/quality ratio, long service life and the ability to overclock, it can be recommended as the best card for a medium-power computer running Ryzen in 2021.

Motherboards for Ryzen 7 5800X

Chipset. Ryzen 5000 processors work great with B550 and X570 motherboards. The new chipset offers a little more features. Namely PCI Express 4.0 speeds. B450 and X470 owners will soon receive a selective beta BIOS update.

A lot can be said about the compatibility of motherboards and processors. For example, motherboards based on A520, B550, X570 chipsets received support for Ryzen 5000. And the most interesting thing is that even ultra-budget models, according to manufacturers, support Ryzen 9 5950X.

What they mean is, if the processor runs, then everything is compatible. And apparently they are not interested in how he will work further. Considering that at full load the energy consumption exceeds the declared value. It is safe to say: “the miser pays twice.”

MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi

The advantage of the MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi board is its powerful processor power supply. The X570 Gaming line is not even worth looking at. It allows users to get the functionality of a top chipset for AMD Ryzen processors and the ability to use PCI Express 4.0 at a relatively low price of the device.

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro

The Aorus Pro power system can also handle more expensive processors. She doesn’t care about some 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X. Previously, it was tested with a 16-core 32-thread Ryzen 9 3950X. It has the optimal combination of characteristics and functionality. Gigabyte boards were famous for their excellent design, and now also for their high-quality components.

Asus Prime X570-Pro

The entire Prime series has a black and white design. Although it was released with Ryzen 3000 processors, it is already ready for up to 16 cores. For the new Ryzen 5000 you will have to update the BIOS. Overclocking a six- and eight-core processor for the Prime X570-Pro is like a cakewalk, since the VRM heating did not even reach 60 °C. It is the Pro version that belongs to the premium segment of motherboards.

ASRock X570 Steel Legend

The Steel Legend line has a stylish appearance with RGB lighting elements. The motherboard based on the ASRock X570 chipset uses a high-quality 10-phase processor power system. There are cooling radiators for two M.2 drives. Under load, the VRM zone heats up to no more than 70 °C. There is surge protection on all its ports.

MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI

Another motherboard from MSI, distinguished primarily by the presence of a wireless module and beautiful multi-color lighting.

Apparently the company is making up for the gap in its lineup based on B450/X470 chipsets (unfortunately, our previous selection did not include a single motherboard from MSI, although this brand deserves respect).

This is an analogue of the previous model with the main difference in the form of a wireless module, and the most progressive standard aimed at the near future.

But apparently ASUS considered this insufficient and stuck in another network adapter with a speed of as much as 2.5 Gbps. Moreover, both network adapters can be combined using a special application to combine their bandwidth. Of course, this will only be used by those who use several high-speed channels, use a PC as a server or network management (Internet distribution).

In addition to the BIOS flash button, a POST code indicator has also been added here. This will help fans of extreme overclocking understand where the failure occurs and what parameters need to be changed to fix it. ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming motherboard
