How to choose and what to pay attention to?
- Pay attention to the type . There are electric screwdrivers, electric impact wrenches, impact and non-impact drills. The first two types are designed to solve small household problems. For example, secure a shelf, tighten a fastening element. The latter are intended for professional purposes. They differ in functionality, durability, and build quality. But they also cost much more. Before choosing, it is important to decide on the tasks that the screwdriver will perform.
- For torque . To work with soft materials, 5-10 Nm is enough, with hard materials - from 35 Nm.
- By cartridge type . It can be key and quick-clamping. According to reviews from owners, it is better to choose a screwdriver with a quick-release chuck, since the key often fails at the most crucial moment.
- On the type of battery (if a cordless screwdriver is purchased). Manufacturers create batteries based on nickel-cadmium and lithium-ion technologies. NiCd has a limited service life, minimum working time without recharging. It is better to choose Li-Ion. Such batteries have an extended service life, long operating time without recharging, and high power.
- On the package and build quality . The wider the configuration, the more versatile the screwdriver. It is also recommended to take into account the manufacturer. The following brands have proven themselves well: Makita, Bosch, Interskol, Metabo. They have more positive reviews and offer only high-quality products with good equipment.
How to choose a budget screwdriver?
When buying a drill/driver, first of all decide how often you will use this tool. This will help you understand what type of food to choose. For regular use, experts recommend taking networked models, and battery-powered ones for home work or travel.
After that, pay attention to the following parameters:
- Operating modes . The most common ones are drilling and driving screws; less often, impact drilling is added to them for more durable materials.
- Is there reverse rotation of the drill (reverse) . It will come in handy if the nozzle gets stuck; you don’t have to break it to remove it.
- Number of batteries (for portable models) . If the kit includes one battery, it is better to immediately buy an additional one.
- Is there a backlight ? It is represented by a small light bulb and is installed on the front of the case; it is useful if you often work in low light or with furniture (where there is a lot of darkness in the corners).
- Storage . Agree, a plastic case or bag simplifies the process of storage or transportation, so the tool will not be damaged by a shock or fall, and parts will not be lost.

What is the best battery for a screwdriver?
Since this material is specifically about cordless screwdrivers, before we begin comparing and reviewing the tool, it is necessary to clarify what types of batteries there are, what positive and negative aspects they have, and which one is preferable.
Types of batteries
Nickel-cadmium (NiCd). The largest dimensions, which is not always convenient for reasons of compactness, are batteries called nickel-cadmium and designated “NiCd”. They are quite cheap and work like clockwork - without failures, both at high temperatures and at sub-zero temperatures. They can be charged an impressive number of times. But the memory effect present here can serve as a bad service, to avoid which such a battery is sent for storage completely discharged, to zero. Charging is also carried out only when the battery runs out completely.
The memory effect is a loss of battery capacity and, as a result, less long-term use between recharges. If you do not wait until the battery is completely discharged and begin to recharge it again, it “remembers” that it was not completely used up and subsequently will not release all the energy, but only the amount that reaches this limit. You have to constantly monitor the battery charge level. Owners of tools with such batteries often ignore this point, as a result, part of the capacity is gradually lost.
Nickel metal hydride (NiMH). Batteries called nickel metal hydride are labeled with the letters "NiMH". They are one hundred percent environmentally friendly and weigh very little. Another significant advantage is their ability to work for a long time without requiring recharging. The memory effect of these batteries is present, but is not as pronounced as with the previous type.
Alas, they also have a significant disadvantage. This is the inability to withstand frost. Even when it’s only minus two degrees outside, such a battery begins to discharge on its own. You cannot store a screwdriver in an unheated garage or in a car trunk. For storage, this type of battery also needs to be charged.
Lithium-ion (Li-Ion). The third type of battery is lithium-ion. Marked "Li-Ion". They appeared later than everyone else - in 1991, in mass production becoming the brainchild of the Japanese corporation Sony. They are distinguished by the absolute absence of memory effect, high capacity and long charge retention. They weigh forty percent less than the analogues described above. They can be charged in any state - at any charge level. Such batteries are often installed on professional models, especially on screwdrivers combined with a drill.
Basic Concepts
1. What does the battery capacity indicate? Capacity, the unit of measurement of which is called ampere-hour (Ah), determines how long the tool can operate without recharging. Accordingly, a distinction is made between household tools (their capacity ranges from 1.3 to 2 A/h) and professional ones with a capacity exceeding 2 A/h.
2. Charging speed. It is important when you need to do work quickly. For a household, not too expensive tool, this characteristic varies from 2 to 12 hours. But professional models can be charged in an hour, or even half an hour. Typically, such tools have lithium batteries and a pulse charger.
3. Battery voltage. The battery voltage can range from 3 to 36 volts. In this case, the torque of the 14.4 V and 12 V models can be the same. In turn, torque determines the power of the screwdriver and you might think that buying a tool with high voltage is not advisable.
In fact, a 14.4 V battery is capable of maintaining the maximum power of the tool for a longer period and, as a result, is able to work for a longer time, until the moment when the drop in battery charge begins to reduce the power of the screwdriver.

Which screwdriver is better to choose?
As was said earlier, when choosing a screwdriver you need to understand why you are buying it.
In order to carry out minor home repairs, an inexpensive model with any type of power supply will be sufficient. If you are going to work outdoors, screwdrivers with an energy-intensive battery will be more preferable; the recommended capacity is from 1.8 Ah. You can also choose a model with a smaller one, but then it will have to be recharged regularly. Do you want to conduct a professional activity related to construction or repair? Then you shouldn’t save money; give preference to models powered by electricity. But watch the cable length: the longer it is, the easier it will be in practice. There are no universal screwdrivers. Each model, depending on the capabilities and vision of the manufacturer, has its own individual characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. To choose the right screwdriver, they need to be compared and analyzed. This is precisely the key purpose of such ratings.

The best screwdriver manufacturers
You need to pay attention not only to the technical characteristics of the device, but also to who is involved in its production. The fact is that not all companies produce sufficiently high-quality and durable products. But the following five can be safely trusted:

- The Russian brand Interskol creates service equipment and repair tools.
