Linear inverter compressor in an LG refrigerator - what is it?

Every year, familiar household appliances become more advanced. Progress also affects such simple and inconspicuous things as a refrigerator. Over the past couple of decades, developers have presented us with a considerable range of innovations: with network connectivity, artificial intelligence, special refrigerators for small kitchens - the list goes on. However, in addition to innovations in functionality, there are other, less noticeable changes that have made it more convenient for us to use the refrigerator. Let's figure out which compressor is better - conventional or inverter?

The principle of operation of an inverter compressor in an LG refrigerator

An inverter compressor is also an electric motor with a pump, but only with an adjustable shaft speed. The adjustment allows you to smoothly regulate the engine speed and thus maintain a constant temperature in the refrigerator chambers, as well as reduce its noise and energy consumption.

That is why refrigerators began to be called inverter, since this is the principle of operation of the compressor, that is, the main power unit, which is found in any device of this type.

Their operation differs from the operation of linear compressors in that they can change the engine speed. That is, the device allows a smooth transition from one operating mode to another.

Linear compressors are started at their maximum power. Automatic shutdown occurs as soon as the refrigerator reaches the set temperature. The relay regulates operating processes that are associated with starting and stopping.

It is inherent for this element to create an accompanying sound at the moment of operation. It is very similar to a click. When the engine is running, it creates sounds and noises that can be clearly heard by others.

IMPORTANT! Please note that such compressors are also used in the manufacture of computer and medical equipment, as well as in the automotive industry and in the production of measuring instruments.

Constantly starting the engine at full power, alternating with stops, leads to the compressor overheating. And soon the refrigerator will fail. In addition, when the engine is turned on every time, this leads to an increase in the load on the electrical network. There are unnecessary energy costs. It's not economical.

IMPORTANT! The solution that can optimize the efficiency and duration of operation of cooling devices is an invention that has become an alternative to outdated devices. In this case, we are talking about inverter models (

LG GA-B489 ZMKZ

Advantages: roomy, A++, you can adjust the temperature at your discretion in both chambers within the limits of the adjustments, no noise like current! the hum is within normal limits, the arrangement of the shelves and the adjustment of the distance between them are acceptable. PS. less noise - choose drip type! No Frost ensures uniform air circulation in the volume of the refrigerator or freezer to create a uniform temperature field. - the refrigerator will hum anyway!

Disadvantages: when pulling out the drawers from the upper and lower chambers, they hit the door and the shelf on the door. you need to open wider than you are used to)) the rest of the impressions are positive. I can characterize the noise (hum) as the operation of a system unit (computer) without a video card with a narrow-profile Thermaltak cooler 36-39 decibels for a core 5 processor + 40% load + a regular case (“without noise”) + operation of a Powerman power supply of 850 watts: -) contact the admins, they will explain ;-)

Comment: I took a long time to choose (I needed a width of up to 60 cm, a height from 190 to 210, a compressor of 1, and a class from A+ and above, well, of course not noisy), I read the reviews, in all of them there is at least one that the refrigerator is noisy, in fact, it’s like “by drop”, since everything depends on transportation (you need to stand), assembly, compressor, refrigerant, in general, made it easier, visited the stores, looked at it “live” and tried to persuade the sellers to include them;- ) in one of the stores I saw this miracle;-) it was initially turned on, it didn’t hum, didn’t make noise, etc., I stood next to it, opened the doors, “reduced” the cold and tried to bring the compressor to the state of turning on :-) - and in the answer is silence)), the hum is generally what it should be, expected from a compressor, miracles do not happen! but - there is no specific noise!

I'm actually cold. put it in the kitchen, and not in the room, I understood one thing - “listening to the smart guys from the market” is not worth it, biased attitudes in this case regarding refrigerators, I repeat once again, depending on your luck, even on the refrigerator repair forum, the craftsmen unanimously talk about this. , but one thing I can say is that BOSH is no longer the same :-) in several stores when it was turned on, strange sounds were made, and different models, but with the same Chinese compressor, the assembly was made in St. Petersburg, and the ergonomics inside were not impressive. in this model, in order to install large “saucepans” you need to rearrange the shelves, I don’t mean stupidly up and down, but change some places, since the folding shelf does not go up one “span”. only after one. In general, I plan to keep plastic bottles of water in the doors, so I didn’t bother with a specific increase in the space between the shelves. In the future, I’ll post in the discussions, since I bought it not long ago, so far I like everything, the nickname soner30 - in my other reviews, if I don’t write for a long time, it means everything works and everything is “nice” -LOL ^-^

Advantages and disadvantages of an inverter compressor in an LG refrigerator

The main reason why many consumers buy this type of refrigeration equipment is the large number of advantages. These include:

  • Low power consumption. According to many manufacturers, the device saves up to 40% compared to a simple linear compressor. This effect is achieved due to the absence of constant switching on and off of the engine.
  • Long service life. Due to the fact that the inverter motor in the refrigerator has a low power, all mechanical parts experience less stress. As a result, wear is reduced and service life is increased. This fact is confirmed by the manufacturer’s statement, which guarantees uninterrupted operation of the refrigerator for 10 years.
  • Silence. The low noise level is due to the operation of the inverter motor at low speeds. In addition, there are absolutely no clicks that are heard during operation of the starting relay.
  • The best conditions for storing food. A refrigerator with a linear compressor may experience temperature changes due to the fact that it turns on and off, while devices with a Digital compressor maintain a constant mode set on the temperature sensor.

But this type of engine also has disadvantages:

  • High price. Compared to refrigerators running on linear compressors, inverter ones are more expensive, and not everyone can afford to buy them. Over time, the equipment will certainly pay for itself through energy savings.
  • Sensitivity to voltage surges. In some homes, this problem occurs quite often and equipment can be seriously damaged. Therefore, in order to protect the device, it is necessary to additionally purchase protective equipment. Manufacturers also offer models with a Volt Control system (for example, Samsung), which will protect the refrigerator from sudden voltage changes. If there is a power surge, the device will go into standby mode and then return to work on its own.

Which brand of refrigerator to choose

Naturally, everyone knows about foreign brands: LG, Samsung, Bosch, Liebherr. From domestic ones: Indesit and Atlant.

Ease of use and lack of promotion from competitors

Let's talk about foreignness. If you think that “brands” are better and more reliable, then this is not at all a fact. The only fact is that they are certainly more expensive than their less popular counterparts. The reason for this is a larger advertising budget, part of which will be included in the final price of the refrigerator model you like. Of course, quality can be noticed, as they say, by touch. Some budget models have a persistent smell of plastic (which disappears over months), skewed (poorly fitted) edges of the casing, protruding thermal insulation, uncomfortable shelves, and make unpleasant noise during operation.

Branded refrigerators usually do not have such problems, since convenience and trouble-free operation are exactly what famous companies are working on. True, the defects listed above can be easily detected even without being a professional; just look carefully at everything in the store and evaluate the usability. You can even ask to be plugged in (and imagine that it’s already in your kitchen).

If you want to save “a little” on the purchase of a refrigerator, do not ignore brands such as Beko and Haier. Foreign, but cheaper. At the same time, they do not stink and look great. And prices for Beko start from 20,000 rubles. This is almost at the level of Russian brands, which, by the way, are also quite ergonomic. Especially if you need to put a refrigerator in your dacha.

My Indesit calmly survived the winter in an unheated room (naturally, it was turned off in the cold). And in the apartment there is a built-in refrigerator of the Zanussi brand (already 6 years old), and in a completely closed niche with minimal (far from certified) gaps on the sides. And no problem.

So we draw a conclusion on this part: don’t chase brands, consider all options. A cheap refrigerator can be no less convenient than an expensive one.

The refrigeration part is the same everywhere

Remember this always. Neither Liebherr nor Bosch can change physical processes. Therefore, the design of absolutely all refrigerators is 99.9% the same.

The compressor drives freon through the refrigeration circuit, as a result the rear wall heats up and the internal volume cools. There is no other way.

Here reliability depends only on the quality of the components and a well-soldered circuit.

Stay away from unknown Chinese brands of refrigerators, as they use their own compressors and such products often break down after just a couple of weeks.

One day, a friend of mine bought two identical refrigerators. The compressors bore the promising name “Success” (China). Both were locked up within a month, with a difference of one day.
