TV speakers: how to choose the best speakers, nuances and ways to connect them

Modern TVs most often have built-in speakers. But usually their power is low, and the sound from them is not very high quality. Due to the fact that TVs are becoming thinner every year, it is difficult to place speakers with high-quality sound inside them. Therefore, many users complain about poor sound. Acoustic systems and soundbars are designed to help them solve the problem and make the sound quality. Let's look at what characteristics you need to look for when choosing speakers for your TV.

Main types of acoustics for TV

Over the years of the existence of the acoustic systems industry, a huge number of different types of acoustics, sound bars, receivers and other sound devices have been produced. Conventionally, all columns can be divided into types according to several parameters:

  • design;
  • purpose of application;
  • active or passive;
  • connection method.

Let's look at each type in more detail.

Design

The design largely determines how clear the device will sound. Structurally, acoustic systems can be made in the most intricate forms. But among them three main varieties can be distinguished:

  • rectangular;
  • pyramidal;
  • spherical.

The best quality can be provided by speakers with a rectangular design. However, they must be made of a special material. MDF, fiberboard or chipboard are best suited for this.

Housing features can also affect the sound and its quality. Here you can find 2 types: closed and with a bass reflex. The first is used in most speakers, and the 2 is found mainly in subwoofers.

Purpose of application

Everything is a little simpler here. There are devices capable of outputting two channels, that is, stereo and multichannel systems. Stereo speakers? These are usually two speakers outputting the left and right front channels. The most common and used type.

Multichannel systems are designed in such a way that each set in the system is responsible for the output of a specific channel. Thus, they can still be divided into several types, each for their own channels:

  • frontal _ This is the most important device, as it were, the entire backbone of the sound. Quite large, equipped with full-range speakers;
  • main column . Often present to give the sound a certain volume and presence effect;
  • subwoofer. One single speaker capable of emitting low frequencies, forming bass;
  • rear _ Typically these are small devices placed behind the user's back. They create a unique effect of presence and volume;
  • satellites. These are small side speakers that perform an auxiliary function and operate in a limited frequency spectrum.

Active or passive speakers

Everything is quite simple here - active ones have a built-in amplifier, which increases their power and signal volume. Passive in most cases require implementation into a ready-made speaker system with an existing amplifier or receiver.

Connection method

According to the connection method, speakers can differ in wired and wireless interfaces. The range of connection options for wired options, in turn, is quite wide. These can be the canonical “tulips”, SCART and HDMI.

Types of speaker systems

Acoustic systems are distinguished both by the design and number of loudspeakers, by their location, and by the principle of operation.

Based on the principle of operation of loudspeakers (speakers), there are two main directions:

  1. Electrodynamic;
  2. Electrostatic.

Electrodynamic system Electrostatic system

Electrodynamic ones are the most common. This is an ordinary speaker in which the diffuser is attached through an elastic suspension to a frame (diffuser holder). On the back side of the diffuser there is a coil of copper wire placed in the magnetic field of a permanent ring magnet. The diffuser creates sound vibrations, disturbing the air due to the interactions of the constant field of the ring magnet and the magnetic field of the sound signal created by alternating current through the coil. The sound quality and spectrum of reproduced frequencies depend on the material from which it is made, its geometric dimensions and shape.

Electrostatic ones have a relatively new design, a very low coefficient of nonlinear distortion (about 0.05%) and a very high price. In addition, their operation requires a special amplifier with an output step-up transformer to create high voltages. Such acoustic systems are more expensive than classic ones with electrodynamic loudspeakers. Their frequency response does not allow covering the low-frequency spectrum with small linear dimensions of the loudspeaker. Therefore, such speakers combine electrostatic and electrodynamic sound emitters, but, again, paired with an expensive amplifier. This way it is possible to achieve a relatively smooth frequency response and high sound quality.

Based on location and purpose, columns are divided into the following types:

  1. Floor;
  2. Shelf;
  3. Planar;
  4. Central plan;
  5. Rear;
  6. Frontal;
  7. Subwoofer.

Subwoofer Floor-standing speakers Front speakers Bookshelf system Rear ceiling system Planar system

There is also a division into:

  1. Active. In them, the amplifier is built into one of the speakers of the speaker system. Such speakers are most often found in the budget segment, in the home theater speaker segment and in the field of PC acoustics;
  2. Passive. For their operation, a separate, external amplifier is required. Such speakers were most common in the last century; most Soviet speakers were of the passive type. Now passive systems mainly occupy the middle and high price segment.

Number of columns

With all this variety of classifications, the first thing that catches your eye when choosing speakers in a store is numbers like 2.0, 2.1, 5.1, written on the boxes and price tags. In the amateur price segment, this is one of the main indicators. The designation indicates the number of speakers and subwoofers.

For information! A subwoofer is a speaker designed for low frequencies (LF). It gives deep and beautiful bass to even the smallest midrange and high-frequency speakers.

Let's move on to decoding digital abbreviations:

  • 1.0 — 1 column. These are used as portable speaker systems or speakers for mobile phones. Radios and players are often built into such models, but the ability to work as a speaker always remains;
  • 2.0 — these kits come with 2 front speakers. Suitable for watching TV with stereo sound in small rooms or for a computer;
  • 2.1 - more advanced acoustic systems. They come as a set of 2 front speakers and 1 subwoofer. The speaker has deep bass compared to 2.0 type systems, and the speakers reproduce the range in the mid and high frequencies;
  • 4.0 — two speakers for installation in front and two rear speakers. They are less common than others;
  • 4.1 — two rear, two front and a subwoofer;
  • 5.1 is one of the most common surround sound systems. Consists of two rear, two front, one front (front center) and a subwoofer. Great for movies and games, this sound provides deep immersion in the plot and perception of special effects.

There are also systems 7.1, 7.2, 9.1, but they are rarely used in everyday life due to their high price.

Often, in household active speakers for a TV, the amplifier is located in the subwoofer housing; if it is not there, then in the housing of one of the speakers.

Soundbar

A compact solution for improving sound quality is a soundbar - this is an acoustic system that is placed under the TV. It looks like an oblong column with a set of speakers combined in one housing.

The soundbar is placed under the TV

Its advantages are its compactness and good sound quality, but comparison with 5.1 Hi-Fi systems is pointless, also because of its compactness.

The main types of connectors for connecting speakers to a TV

Modern systems can be connected in one of several ways, which involves using the following connectors:

  • analog input. The simplest and most widely used connectors. Divided into two channels? left and right;
  • SCART connector. Universal connector for both audio and video transmission;
  • component connector. Plugs for such a connector are popularly called “tulips”. Also divided into left and right channels;
  • HDMI. The most modern and most technologically advanced way to connect. Can transmit digital audio and video up to Ultra HD;
  • digital output . Typically connected using an optical connection.

Inexpensive acoustic kits

The rating is opened by options for acoustic systems costing up to 10 thousand rubles. Both active and passive speakers in 2.1 and 5.1 configurations are presented here.

JBL Bar 2.0 All-in-One

  • speaker type: soundbar
  • AC type: active
  • total power: 80 W
  • front speakers: 1
  • rear speakers: no
  • center rear speakers: no

Comparing with Xiaomi Soundbar: + Jbl is much louder and smaller in size. + Connection via hdmi (arc). + No annoying, constantly blinking LEDs. + Thoughtful, convenient wall mount (not just two holes for self-tapping screws, like xiaomi). + Separate remote control (but I don’t use it, I use the standard one from the TV).

The built-in sub is so-so. although, I don’t know if it would have been possible to cram something better into such a compact body. For the same Xiaomi, it feels like there was no built-in subwoofer at all.

Overall this JBL is a cool thing. One of my best purchases. I'm super happy.

Xiaomi Redmi TV Soundbar

  • speaker configuration: 2.1
  • speaker type: soundbar
  • AC type: active

Inexpensive Good sound Easy to connect via Bluetooth

No remote control Few inputs Need an adapter for a Chinese power plug

Bought to replace sound from a projector or laptop. I ordered from China as soon as they appeared (now presented in Russian stores). The quality is decent, even the bass can be heard noticeably better. The volume is sufficient to quietly listen to movies and TV series without disturbing other residents of the apartment. Includes coaxial cable, screws and mounting pad. The power cable is not very long (90 cm). When connected, the blue light in the middle lights up, after connection it goes out and is not noticeable. There is no remote control, but it can be controlled via bluetooth as a speaker or headphones. I didn’t write a review for a long time, and after a couple of weeks it happened a couple of times that at first the speaker connected, but then I noticed that the sound was not coming from there, and after reconnecting it was no longer lost. I haven't figured out what's going on yet.

Sony HT-SF150

  • speaker type: soundbar
  • AC type: active
  • total power: 120 W
  • front speakers: 1
  • rear speakers: no
  • center rear speakers: no
  • center channel: no
  • subwoofer: no
  • remote control included: yes
  • dimensions: 900x64x88 mm
  • weight: 2.4 kg

Perfectly creates a three-dimensional scene when watching movies and sports broadcasts. Compact. Synchronized perfectly with my Sony TV via hdmi. It automatically turns on with the TV and the sound is adjusted from the TV remote control, which made me very happy.

SVEN HT-200

  • speaker configuration: 5.1
  • AC type: active
  • total power: 80 W
  • front speakers: 2
  • rear speakers: 2
  • center rear speakers: no
  • center channel: 1
  • subwoofer: 1
  • frequency range: 40-22000 Hz
  • remote control included: yes
  • dimensions: 95x152x95 mm

High frequencies, design, dimensions, the kit includes 3 RCA-3.5 jack cables of fairly good quality.

There are minor quibbles, but these are more personal quibbles than flaws in the system itself

After my previous speakers failed (one of the ULFs burned out), I thought for a long time what to choose, temporarily sat on an amplifier from a prehistoric music center, in the end I decided to buy this model, the dimensions surprised me at first, I didn’t believe that they could produce something funny, I included it in the card from Asus and was surprised, the speakers produce peppy high, mid and mediocre bass, I had to get used to the control panel, but it took about 5 minutes. The overall impression of the system is good and even excellent, considering the price, if anyone If you want an inexpensive and high-quality audio system, take it. I can’t say anything about the jambs with AUX, I simply didn’t have them (although, I admit, I connected AUX only once and immediately crawled to full 5.1), I can’t say anything about short wires either, because the previous speakers were scattered all over room and I was too lazy to re-arrange the wires, to put it mildly, so I used the old ones and replaced only the wires from the front speakers, because... they were not fixed to the wall.

Technical characteristics of TV speakers: how to choose the right one

When choosing speakers for a TV, you cannot definitely say whether they are suitable for a particular model or not. Therefore, there are a number of characteristics that you need to focus on when choosing a speaker system for your TV.

SCART to RCA adapter

Sensitivity

Sensitivity characterizes nothing more than the maximum volume. This value is measured in decibels. In general, the higher the sensitivity value, the louder the system can produce sound from the speakers.

Power

Power is one of the most important parameters of a speaker. Typically there are three concepts of power: rated, maximum and peak. The nominal value is usually indicated in the device passport. Maximum power is the power at which the speaker can reproduce sound for a long time without any physical consequences. Peak power is usually several times higher than the rated power, indicating the value at which the column can operate for a short time without being damaged.

Pay attention to the recommended power of the amplifier, since choosing speakers that it will not “pull” is fraught with low sound quality.

When choosing speakers for your TV, everyone mainly relies on the wattage rating. The larger the area of the room in which the TV is located and the sound from the selected speakers will be heard, the higher the power value should be chosen.

Materials and design

We talked a little about materials at the beginning of the article. A plastic case will cost much less, but the sound produced will be much worse. For TV acoustics, it is preferable to choose wooden enclosures. The design doesn’t really matter, except that it’s better to use a device with a bass reflex.

Connecting speakers to your TV

The connection type should be chosen based on the TV outputs. Basically, any model is equipped with several types of connectors, leaving freedom of choice to the user. In addition, new modern models are equipped with wireless modules and Bluetooth.

How to connect speakers to a TV

In general, connecting speakers to a TV is not very different on different models of different brands. Almost all of them have the same set of connectors. But still, let's take a look at how this is done using the example of a couple of brands, a subwoofer, an amplifier and computer speakers.

How to connect speakers to an LG TV

You can connect speakers to an LG TV using several connectors: SCART, tulips, linear outputs, HDMI and wireless connection. It’s worth mentioning right away that the SCART connector is not present on all models.

If your TV and speakers have SCART, then just connect them. If there is no connector on the speakers, you can use an adapter with SCART on one end and ? "tulips". Is such an adapter officially labeled as SCART? RCA.

“Tulips” are the most common types of connectors. Therefore, no problems should arise here. We connect the left channel to the left, right? to the right. The linear output on a TV can be identified by special terminals. The connection occurs directly to the plus and minus contacts. The first corresponds to the red color of the terminal, the second - black.

HDMI is probably the highest quality way to transmit sound from a TV to speakers. True, this most likely won’t be possible with regular speakers. Because HDMI is present mainly in complex devices, such as home theaters or receivers.

Using Bluetooth, you can connect your speakers to your TV without any wires. The setup is done through the menu of the TV itself. You need to find the Bluetooth function, activate the device search and connect the found speakers.

How to connect speakers to a Samsung TV

In fact, the method described for LG is also suitable for connecting speakers for a Samsung TV. The same set of connectors and connection methods are available. Except that some models may be equipped with a special headphone output or the so-called Mini-jack.

Unusual acoustic design

The cable for connecting speakers in this way usually has a standard 3.5 mm plug on one side, and a ? “tulips” or analog connectors. Before connecting the speakers to your Samsung TV, you should make sure that the necessary adapters are available.

How to connect a subwoofer to a TV

Subwoofers, like speakers, can be active or passive. This means that the connection method for different types may be different. Active subwoofers simply need to be connected with a cable, adjust the sound in the TV menu and listen to the test track. The situation with passives is a little more complicated. It is impossible to connect them directly. And therefore, either home theater or receivers are used for this. That is, in essence, the subwoofer is first connected to a common speaker system, for example, a home theater or set-top box, and then all this is connected to the TV. But it is worth noting that most of these systems already have their own subwoofer.

Wireless Sub from Sony

How to connect an amplifier to a TV

ATTENTION!

Before connecting the speakers to the TV, you need to make sure that you have all the necessary adapters and the cables match the connectors.

All methods for connecting amplifiers and additional audio devices come down to how correctly the type of cable and connectors will be selected, and are there adapters from one type or another to the one of interest? Old amplifier systems can be connected using a SCART-RCA connection.

Newer amplifier models are usually included in a variety of receiver systems, DVD players, and home theater systems. You can also try using a standard headphone jack, if available. True, you still have to look for an adapter from this connector.

How to connect computer speakers to a TV

Connecting computer speakers? this is probably the easiest way. In most cases, regular acoustics from a computer are active. That is, it has its own sound amplifier. Most often they are connected to a computer using a 3.5 mm connector. If your TV has such an output, then simply connect them. If there are other connectors, then you will have to find an adapter from 3.5 mm to the one you are interested in.

Budget options

Budget models are those that cost less than 10,000 rubles. They sound good at home. They can be used to watch movies and listen to music.

Criteria for choosing good home acoustics

When choosing modern Hi-Fi acoustics, the following parameters are taken into account:

  1. Device location. First of all, they decide on the place where the acoustics will be installed. Today, 2 types dominate the market: floor-mounted and shelf (or wall-mounted). Floor-standing acoustics, as a rule, have a massive body and large drivers that produce powerful sound with fat bass. Bookshelf speakers are compact and do not take up much space in the room. They are inferior to floor-standing models in terms of power, but they reproduce detailed sound.
  2. Acoustics type. Speakers can be active or passive. The former have an amplifier inside, so they are ready to work immediately after switching on. Savings follow from this. But due to the fact that the developer places both speakers and electronics in one housing, the sound quality often suffers. For passive acoustics, you need to additionally buy an external amplifier. Even if it is expensive, this way the user gets more opportunities to upgrade the audio system.
  3. Number of lanes. In theory, the greater the number of “highly specialized” speakers, the better. However, crossovers distribute the signal between them, and in many ways their quality and tuning accuracy affect the purity of the reproduced audio. Therefore, two-way or three-way acoustics are optimal.
  4. Smooth frequency response. The smoother the amplitude-frequency response, the clearer the music sounds across the entire frequency range. It’s unlikely that anyone wants to buy a speaker whose highs are swamped and the lows are raised. The frequency response is indicated by manufacturers or in publications conducting similar tests.
  5. Speaker power. The power of the acoustics should not be lower than the power of the amplifier. Otherwise, when you try to raise the volume to maximum, the speakers will begin to wheeze. In addition, when choosing power, the installation location of the speaker is also taken into account. For example, if you need to pump up the hall with music at a concert or organize a disco, you need a powerful model. Conversely, there is no point in buying 400-watt speakers for a small apartment.

Which speaker to choose for music in an apartment or house

If you need inexpensive speakers for your home, we recommend choosing the BEHRINGER Truth B2030A. This bookshelf model has a built-in amplifier, so you don’t have to buy anything else. And everything is fine with her sound.

If the speaker is purchased to connect to a home theater, then the premium model – Magnat Quantum 677 – will cope with this task.

  1. What is the most powerful acoustics in the world? The power of the Quantum 677 speakers reaches 350 W.
    This is enough to pump up not only an apartment with music, but also a rather large building. However, there are acoustic speakers that are 10 or even 15 times superior to Quantum. We are talking about Ultra-Slim ARRAY acoustics from the Bose brand, the power of which was 4900 W. The manufacturer himself stated that the peak power of the speakers is as much as 11,000 W, but this is hard to believe. There is information that there is a more powerful column. According to the source, it was produced by an illegal Japanese company, which never patented it. Its power reached 7800 W.

Acoustics costing 10-25 thousand rubles

This is an average price category with optimal price-quality ratio. The top continues to be acoustic kits and soundbars, characterized by better build quality and more pronounced low frequencies.

The sound is gorgeous and sufficient for a room of 35m2. The insides don't jump out, but I don't think they should. Clean. I immediately want to watch a movie.

Excellent product for the money. Music lovers, please do not spoil your reviews. This technique is for ordinary people who do not have the ear of Luciano Pavarotti and the like.

Sounds very nice and balanced

Having handed over the JBL Bbar 3.1 for repair, I began to look for something more budget-friendly, about 20,000 rubles. Again, having monitored the market, there are different options for Sony, Samsung, LG, etc., there are also options for Yamaha and Polcaudio, but without a subwoofer, so I refused them. After reading somewhere on the Internet about the Denon DHT-S316, I started thinking about this option. There are practically no reviews, the model is new, and I was not mentally prepared for the low power after the JBL Bar 3.1. But time passed and it was necessary to choose something, realizing that Denon simply could not make uninteresting acoustics; I ordered it at my own peril and risk. Upon arrival, I saw the small box and realized that these were most likely toy speakers ;( Having disassembled the box, the soundbar and sub turned out to be very light. Miracles don’t happen. But how pleasantly surprised I was when this little system started playing. Again, comparing with JBL. Denon There are fewer speakers in the soundbar, but it sounds more interesting, like a more mature model, the JBL Bar 3.1 soundbar plays rather dryly, the mids are piled towards the tops and therefore there is a huge gap between a powerful sub and the soundbar. Denon's sub is not so powerful and gives the bass not a powerful shiver throughout the whole body, but a more sonorous bass, thereby complementing the mids in the lower range to the soundbar. The bass is there and it plays perfectly for its size, and in cinema mode it also complements with surround effects. The appearance is excellent, All the necessary settings are available. And even in comparison with the JBL Bar 3.1, it has 3 channels in the soundbar. The right and left channels are responsible for effects in Dolby Digital mode, and the central one for speech, but in Denon there are only 2 channels and therefore it was a little confusing How can he cope with dubbing speech and effects at the same time, but he coped with this task perfectly well and no significant differences were noticed. Comparing its size and how it plays, you will never regret the purchase! Moreover, at the moment, due to the super promotion, it cost me 14,800. There are certainly no competitors in this price segment.

Good sound for an audio system for 16 thousand rubles at the time of purchase (12/10/19), good design, the sub stands away from the TV and does not look like an unnecessary object.

Only HDMI cable included.

I spent a long time choosing a soundbar for my new TV, I have a small house, so I didn’t even think about 5.1/7.1, I was looking for something universal. Friends immediately said that if you take a soundbar, then only with a buffer, otherwise everything is in vain, and this is indeed true, if you turn off the sub and leave only the central panel, the sound is of course better quality but not much different from the standard TV speakers, but the sub perfectly adds volume and quality to the sound. Don't expect super 3D sound, overall it's flat, but what do we want from a 2.1 system for 16k. It took me a long time to choose a bar. I settled on this option for the Samsung HW-r550. Samsung seems to be good, but Jbl attracted a lot of reviews, but there was also a frightening moment in it regarding the same reviews about the fact that the bar can temporarily turn off in quiet scenes. In the end, I decided to take a chance and take a jbl, but I didn’t take a regular one, but a deep bass, it seems like the model is newer, maybe that problem has been fixed, and the sub is larger in size, that’s why it’s a deep bass, and the difference in price was only 1 thousand rubles. I'm happy with the choice, although I have nothing to compare it with. There have been no sound cuts yet, there have been plenty of quiet scenes, but I’m still vigilant. Connected via HDMI arc After 2 weeks I can say with confidence that the sound does not disappear, I don’t know how this happened on a regular bar, but everything is fine.

Easy connection, Sony TV remote control (4 years) via hdmi arc, sound in movies

The location of the usb, hdmi connectors is all in a small recess in the center on the back side. On the other hand, you don’t often need to plug in HDMI, and you probably don’t want to use a flash drive regularly

As expected, the sound is about halfway between that of a TV and a decent system, and everything is very compact. Of course, I would like to compare with Sony or LG, but there is no point in the store, and there is no possibility at home. But I don’t think that these manufacturers have better products in proportion to the difference in price. Music is reproduced tolerably well through bt, but the sound in movies is more interesting. According to page 4 of the instructions, it must support hdmi cec for the media player included in the hdmi in bar, i.e. Controlling the player with the TV remote control via a special bus. I'll check it later on an apple product.

JBL Bar 2.0 All-in-One

  • center channel: no
  • subwoofer: built-in
  • frequency range: 70-20000 Hz
  • remote control included: yes
  • dimensions: 614x58x90 mm
  • weight: 1.6 kg

LG SJ3

I took 15 sq.m. for a room. to the LG 43 TV. Fits perfectly. The sound is excellent. The subwoofer rocks the curtains! I liked the wireless connection. I set it up via Bluetooth without any problems.

lack of HDMI connector and equalizer

I'm happy, the device is really worth the money spent. There are better ones, but more expensive.

The best TV speakers

With an unlimited purchasing budget, you can choose acoustics from top manufacturers Sony, Yamaha, Bose and provide powerful multi-channel sound.

The overall sound quality is definitely +. Compared to the built-in speakers, the LG B8 sounds much better. I really like the quality of speech transmission: what I might not have heard before now sounds clear and understandable. Bass is also +, but they are not that important to me.

I really didn’t like the intelligent mode; it turns out to be a bit of a mess. I turned it off on the first day.

Addition a few months later: the inscription failed, which constantly appears on it, has been removed. Moreover, once I even managed to manually calibrate it, but it didn’t help for long.

I am very pleased with the purchase. I’m sure it can’t compare with a full-fledged home theater, but in a small room the set is definitely pleasing.

LG SL10Y

1. I bought it as an addition to the LG OLED C9 65-inch TV. If the TV is on its original stand, then in different versions the sound of the TV is not much worse, and sometimes it is no different from this soundbar. At first it even seemed like I had bought it in vain. Now I'm more satisfied than disappointed. In principle, the purchase involved simultaneously purchasing a TV bracket and moving the TV to the wall. 2. There was definitely no WOW effect. Apparently, to fully reveal the device, you need high-quality content for the main Dolby digital surround sound technology to work. There isn't much of it now. This is a problem of the same nature as 4K and 8K video. 3. The device can be used with other devices. Lots of connection options. There is software in the Apple Store that is convenient for managing the soundbar settings. I consider this a big plus. 4. The size of the device is huge. Suitable for 65mm TV. I think it won't look good on smaller screens (too long). Think very carefully before you buy.

YAMAHA MusicCast BAR 400

Pleasant and neat design Availability of Dolby, DTS, DTS Virtual:X decoders Playing lossless audio files Internet radio, music services, DLNA AirPlay/Bluetooth HDMI ARC High-quality mobile application Expandable to 5.1 using wireless rear speakers

Not all functions are displayed on the remote control Lack of Dolby TrueHD/Atmos, DTS HDMA/X decoders Lack of a custom equalizer Lack of USB for connecting a flash drive/disc with music Lack of a training mode for working with someone else’s remote control Expensive wireless rears

Finally, I’ll write a normal review on this soundbar, unlike all the toothless reviews on the RuNet.

I re-read a bunch of reviews and reviews, from which I learned that Sony has unsightly design and problems in connecting the subwoofer to the bar (and indeed stability of operation), Samsung and LG have problems with the quality of sound/music playback, and all the rest are either too exotic and not have technical support in Russia or the necessary functions. Now, in order: 1. Surround sound. Of course, there is no true sound here, but the quality of the sound effects in the films is sufficient. Unfortunately, DTS Virtual:X does not work well everywhere and not always. In normal sound mode, spectacular scenes are played out much better! Therefore, this mode is best used on films/shows without special effects (dramas, comedies, etc.). 2. Music. My musical ear says - excellent. Relatively flat frequency response throughout the entire range, which, in fact, is what they write about in foreign reviews - the bottom/middle/top sound smoothly and without sound pits. I won’t lisp about colored highs, unclear lower mids and indistinct reproduction of the 49-64 Hz range - this is not equipment worth 200 thousand / rubles, and my room is not prepared for making such judgments. Sound purity is achieved only in stereo mode and with bass extension disabled. 3. Functionality. The sub doesn't fall off, the 4K video plays, there are no volume jams, Internet radio and DLNA work without interruptions, HDMI ARC controls the volume and on/off from the TV remote - there's nothing to add here. True, Bluetooth works with plugs (I blame the configuration of my computer), but AirPlay works fine. Through the application, I conveniently configured the system/automatically updated the firmware. True, the native Yamaha remote control does not have buttons for equalizer presets (there are only in the application), but they are not particularly different from each other, and there are buttons on the remote control to switch stereo for music and soundtrack for movies. In general, I advise you to buy.

How to choose an audio system

General advice boils down to a number of rules:

  • determine the optimal speaker operating parameters for your room;
  • fix the priority in the sound system (2.0 for audio or 5.1 for blockbusters);
  • don’t chase the brand; there are many high-quality solutions on the market from little-known companies;
  • Determine the purchase price limit and strictly follow it. Remember, there is no limit to perfection and the size of the price tag for a high-quality audio system.
