Is it_possible_to_place_a_hob_above_the_dishwasher?

Limited space in the kitchen is a sore point for Russians and residents of countries where houses built by Khrushchev are used. Any resident of a “separate apartment” in such a house will tell you a bunch of stories about who built these houses and with what hands. But that’s not what we’re talking about now. We need to solve a very specific problem, namely, to ensure that the hob above the dishwasher is placed as well as possible, so that these two appliances do not have a negative impact on each other and do not fail. This is what we will do.

"Pitfalls" of such an installation

At first glance, it may seem that a dishwasher under the hob is an ideal solution that is very simple to implement. Well, the hob is narrow and it fits perfectly on the body of the dishwasher, plug it in and use it, but not everything is so simple.

  1. Hob: induction or gas tends to heat up during operation and this heat will certainly be transferred to the dishwasher, for which overheating is contraindicated.
  2. A dishwasher means moisture that can condense on the hob, which is not at all desirable, especially if the panel is electric.
  3. The hob and dishwasher are connected to communication elements that may interfere with each other.

Particular attention should be paid to the issue of connecting gas hoses to the gas hob. These hoses must not be pinched or tightly closed.

  1. It is quite difficult to correctly calculate the distance between the hob and the dishwasher lid so that everything fits perfectly into the furniture, while leaving the necessary gaps for laying the heat-insulating and moisture-proofing layer.
  2. It is necessary to ideally select the installation location of the dishwasher, above which the hob will be placed. Firstly, the place should be next to the sink, and secondly, the dishwasher will be placed between two cabinets, and the hob will be embedded in the countertop or installed in another similar way. If you install it differently, the service life of the dishwasher and hob will be shortened.

We remembered all the main problems that a master may face. The one who, at any cost, decided to implement the idea of \u200b\u200bplacing the hob above the dishwasher body. Some problems are very serious and require a detailed analysis of the situation on site, but we can assure you that in most cases, this idea is feasible. Let's talk about the mechanism for its implementation.

Installation under an induction hob

If you decide in advance to think about installing a dishwasher under the hob, but you don’t yet have either the panel itself or the dishwasher. Then you need to think carefully about which models of hobs and dishwashers you will consider. Here it will be timely to provide expert advice on this matter.

Firstly, it is best to take an induction hob. It heats up very weakly from below, practically not transferring heat to the body of the dishwasher. Secondly, it is better to take a fully built-in dishwasher, because the outer layer of its body is wrapped in felt - a good heat-insulating material, so that the machine will be reliably protected from excess heat.

Is it possible to place a dishwasher under an induction hob? It’s very possible, but for this you need to take into account some nuances.

  1. Leave a gap of at least 2.5 cm between the dishwasher body and the induction hob body.
  2. Between the housings of the dishwasher and the hob, lay foil penofol or regular thick foil as insulation from moisture.
  3. It is better to take a thin hob, whose thickness does not exceed 5-5.2 cm, so it will fit better into the countertop and will look like a single monolithic structure.
  4. The built-in dishwasher must be no higher than 82 cm so that the total height of the structure, taking into account the gap, does not exceed 90 cm (+-2 cm). This is a comfortable height for the burners, which will make cooking as convenient as possible for a housewife of average height. You can read what other heights dishwashers are in the article of the same name on our website.
  5. When installing the hob on the dishwasher, do not forget that at the back of the structure there should be enough space for communications: electrical wires and hoses, which should also be located freely, without creases or pinches.

The above recommendations correspond to the Kaiser KCT 6395 I Elfem induction hob (5 cm thick) and the Hansa ZIM 636 EH dishwasher (82 cm high).

When starting the installation process, do not forget that there must also be a gap of at least 1 cm between the floor and the body of the dishwasher for normal air and heat exchange. Do not forget that the dishwasher can overheat not only from above, but primarily from below, where all the main actively working components and assemblies are located.

Take careful measurements when installing your dishwasher and hob. Take into account all the mentioned gaps, the thickness of the furniture walls, the height of the legs and other factors. As soon as you manage to take all this into account and record it in a drawing, or at least a sketch, you can begin to implement your plans. If problems arise along the way, contact a specialist.

Installation under a gas panel

We have decided that an induction hob can easily be placed above a dishwasher and there is nothing particularly scary about it. But what should we do if we don’t have an induction panel, but we have a gas panel and we have a “nosebleed” under the gas hob, we need to place a dishwasher, and to make everything safe and convenient?

In this matter, even an experienced master will have to rack his brains, because there are a group of strict requirements for working with household gas equipment that cannot be circumvented. What problems may arise when installing a gas hob above a dishwasher?

  1. Heating the dishwasher. The gas hob gets very hot, and excess heat in such an amount will definitely cause damage to the dishwasher.
  2. Gas hoses. Gas hoses supplying the hob must be positioned freely, so that the gas service worker checking the equipment can freely access it.
  3. The gas panel is quite thick, which will certainly create obstacles to its aesthetic placement on the dishwasher.

Memo for a dishwasher installer

For those who decide to install a dishwasher themselves, there are several rules that, if followed, will allow you to correctly install the dishwasher and also extend its service life:

  1. Gas technicians check stoves every year, which requires them to move the stove, and with it the dishwasher installed under the hob.
  2. The height of the legs of the lower cabinet should not be less than 15 centimeters. This distance is necessary for running the gas cord.
  3. A special gasket should be placed between the top edge of the dishwasher and the stove to protect it from moisture and high temperatures.
  4. The height of the hob should not exceed 4 centimeters. This is necessary so that it fits completely into the cut hole.
  5. Do not forget that placing a dishwasher under the stove is extremely risky. It is worth approaching this issue with utmost care.

In order for the machine to work longer, it is better to use it and the stove at different times.

What's the difficulty?

Visually, this placement option seems simply ideal: space is saved, devices are arranged compactly, organically. After all, the hob fits harmoniously on top of the dishwasher. But the implementation of such a project has some nuances that can complicate the process. Before deciding on such a layout, be sure to consider the following:

during operation, the hob, gas or induction, gets quite hot, transferring heat to the appliance below, and it is contraindicated for a dishwasher;

Moisture accumulates and condenses from the dishwasher, which can damage the hob, especially if it is electric;

the installation of these kitchen units includes connections of completely different types of communications, which can greatly interfere with each other;

if the surface is gas, there are also features of connecting special hoses; they cannot be closed, pinched, and breaking them is unacceptable.

If all these points can be resolved within the framework of your project, then you should study the requirements for installing a hob and dishwasher in close proximity to each other.

Distance. It is necessary to maintain a certain distance between these devices, which is quite problematic to calculate. Violation will lead to the fact that the units will not fit perfectly into the furniture set. There may also be no space left for insulating layers against moisture and heat.

Installation location. The dishwasher should be in close proximity to the sink, located between two lower cabinets. The hob is either built into the countertop or embedded in another way. Failure to comply with these recommendations can lead to the failure of household appliances much earlier than the time stated by the manufacturer.

Despite the fact that this task has many problems, it is quite possible to implement such an installation of devices. It is only necessary to carefully study the mechanism of this process.

Expert opinion on the issue

Installing a dishwasher under the hob is not the easiest task. The installation process mainly depends on the type of slab.

If your kitchen uses a gas stove, then installation of the dishwasher should only be carried out by specialists.

The main disadvantage of installing a dishwasher under a gas stove is that during operation the latter will heat up and transfer heat to the built-in unit, which can negatively affect its operation.

Incorrect calculation of distance can also be a big problem. If you install the machine on a table, a steamer is included in the design to protect it. When installing the device under a gas stove, problems may arise with steam removal. Due to an incorrectly calculated distance, steam can damage equipment.

Ready solution

Manufacturers of household appliances came to the aid of those wishing to place appliances in this way and released a model that combines a hob, oven and dishwasher. The multifunctional miracle appliance has 4 gas burners, a small oven, and a small dishwasher. The advantages of such a device:

economical consumption of water and energy resources;

combination of different types of kitchen appliances in one design;

the price of the device does not exceed the total cost of three household appliances.

There are also disadvantages:

the small size of the oven has only one sheet, so it will not allow you to cook a number of dishes, forces you to bake in several batches and is not suitable for a large family;

The modest size of the dishwasher makes it possible to wash the same amount of dishes, so again, for a large family this is not the best option.

Thus, this interesting kitchen unit will be an excellent solution for a small family or a bachelor. The device will save space and will not cause any installation difficulties. It is enough to provide measurements of the multifunctional appliance to the kitchen designer for optimal placement.

If you like to cook a lot or your family has more than four people, this device will not be the best choice; it is worth considering combining separate devices.

To learn how to avoid mistakes when installing a dishwasher under the hob, watch the video below.

Many apartments of old construction, especially from Khrushchev's times, are not able to accommodate all the household appliances necessary for kitchen life. When it seems that there is no more free space, built-in appliances come to the rescue. Let’s figure out how a dishwasher “feels” under the hob and which models are suitable for installation.

Reasons for limiting installation under the slab

Dishwashers can be free-standing or built into furniture, under the sink or countertop. The latter method is convenient for saving space in a small kitchen. For the same reasons, the stove for cooking is replaced by a hob, which is available with gas, induction, or electric heating and is located in the countertop.

Dishwasher under the hob

Is it possible to bring two kitchen appliances closer together? It will become clear after considering the reasons for the unjustified proximity:

  • The heat from the hob is transferred to the downstream dishwasher, which is undesirable.
  • The moisture emanating from the PMM does not comply with the operating conditions of the electrical surface: condensation forms, which leads to oxidation of the contacts.
  • Communications - devices connected to them may interfere with their installation. If the hob is gas, the hoses must not be pinched or covered.

Obstacles to installing appliances on a shelf can be eliminated by maintaining the required distances between the dishwasher and the hob, by choosing the optimal location for the PMM. The first parameter is important for laying moisture-heat-insulating materials between devices.

The second point is the need to place the dishwasher near the sink, and the hob closer to the gas pipe. It was possible to fulfill the set conditions, which means that it is possible to install the PMM under the slab embedded in the countertop.

What types of dishwashers are there?

Manufacturers try to satisfy any consumer needs, so they produce different types of dishwashers:

  • Stationary devices. These are free-standing machines that can be placed on the floor if they are full-size, or on a table if they are compact. They do not need fixation, they are self-sufficient. They can be moved from place to place. The main thing is to provide them with water and electricity.
  • Built-in. Such machines can be installed in kitchen cabinets, under sinks, and countertops. They can be fully or partially built-in.

How to choose an induction hob

A few tips will help you figure out which induction hob to choose.

  • FreeZone technology, which allows you to place dishes almost anywhere in the work area. In such surfaces, with one touch of the sensor, 2 separate surfaces can be turned into 1 large heating area: left and right. They can accommodate dishes with a very large diameter bottom or a non-standard shape - for example, an oval duckling pan or 3 small saucepans.

  • Pause mode. If you need to be distracted, you interrupt the process for a while, but all its cooking parameters are saved in memory.
  • “Keep warm” mode. The burner, operating at minimum power, will keep the dish warm for as long as desired.
  • The more heating modes there are, the more accurately you can choose the one that is suitable for a particular dish. Most models have 9 power levels, which is quite enough: “1” is ideal for melting chocolate, “5” for frying pancakes, “9” for browning meat.
  • Automatic shutdown system when overheating. It will work if all the liquid has boiled out of the cookware or you forget to turn off the surface.
  • Forced cooling system. Fans are built under the panel to cool the mechanisms from the inside during cooking. And if even the ventilation fails, overheating protection comes to the rescue. When a certain temperature is reached, a sensor is triggered and the entire stove is turned off until it cools completely.
  • Other safety features: timer, automatic shutdown after a certain time, child protection.
  • instant heating mode
    . Burners with this function are able to briefly “borrow” power from neighboring ones and increase the intensity of work. This increases the speed of boiling water or heating oil in a frying pan.
  • Almost all induction cookers are controlled by touch buttons. An interesting variation is slider control. Panel elements are presented in the form of long rulers that respond to touch at any point. This display is intuitive, convenient and visual, so users get used to it faster.
  • Most induction hobs are painted black. But if this color does not match your interior, you can choose other options. For example, a model in a noble ivory shade. Or in white.

Placement principles

To ensure that the dishwasher works properly, when installing, consider the following nuances:

  1. There should be an optimal distance between the surfaces of the devices - the stove and the dishwasher. It is necessary to leave space for placing layers of moisture and heat insulation.
  2. The installation location should be near the sink. Then it will be convenient to remove leftover food and rinse dishes if necessary.
  3. PMM is placed between cabinets - this way the equipment is more securely fixed, and the panel crashes into the countertop.
  4. It is recommended to place dishwashers near dish drawers so as not to run around the kitchen with washed dishes.

Installation under electric or induction hob

For this purpose, a fully built-in model is more suitable than others. Such PMMs are more compact; their package includes everything needed for installation, as well as thermal insulation material. The best option is induction cookers; they hardly heat up and the dishwasher is not in danger of heating up. When installing devices, keep these tips in mind:

  • There should be at least 2.5–3 cm between the surfaces of the devices.
  • Place a sheet of foil on the inside of the tile - this will act as a moisture barrier.
  • The recommended height of the PMM is up to 82 cm. The height of countertops is usually 89–90 cm. Consider your height and the height of the pots you want to look into.
  • Leave free space near the back surface of the device - hoses and other communications will be connected there.
  • Adjust the PMM legs - there should be air circulation under the bottom. The gap from the floor to the bottom is 1 cm. This space will prevent the device from overheating.
  • Do not rush to install the device, first make a drawing, calculations and measurements.

Placing the dishwasher under the hob

The implementation of the idea of installing two household appliances in one column begins with choosing a type of overlay plate. You should prefer an induction or electric hob - they hardly heat up in the lower part.

The gas burner option is the most inconvenient. The dishwasher must be built-in: for thermal insulation purposes, its body is lined with a layer of felt.

Is a dishwasher profitable?

Oh yes! No

Electric stove insert

The package of PMM installed in furniture includes fittings for installation and heat-insulating materials. When assembling a two-level structure, you need to remember to leave the necessary gaps. Recommended parameters when inserting an electric stove:

  1. The height distance between devices is 25-30 mm. The lower part of the hob is protected from moisture and temperature spread by a sheet of foil.
  2. The height of the countertop is 0.9 m, the vertical size of the dishwasher should not exceed 82 cm.
  3. The back of the machine should be at a distance sufficient from the wall to accommodate hoses and pipelines.
  4. The gap from the floor to the bottom of the PMM is ≥1 cm to ensure air circulation.

Ask a Question

Before installing adjacent household appliances, it is recommended to take measurements of the countertop, stove, and dishwasher. Draw a layout diagram taking into account leaving the necessary gaps.

Induction surface pad

The heating principle of such furnaces is based on the influence of eddy currents that are formed in the electromagnetic field when electricity passes through inductance coils. There is no increase in temperature under the hob.

The recommendations given for the joint installation of an electric stove and dishwasher are also valid for an induction hob. When purchasing a stove, you need to pay attention to the thickness of the device, which is in the range of 37-79 mm. If the user is not tall, it is better to choose a thinner model.

Dishwasher under stove

Installation of gas burners

The peculiarity of such hobs is the need for a hose connection to the gas pipeline, which predetermines the participation of an appropriate specialist in the installation. The health of not only the owner of the apartment and his family, but also the residents of the entire entrance depends on the correct installation of the devices. Placing a dishwasher under gas burners requires other conditions to be met:

  • the hose from the supply pipe tap to the panel is laid freely and without kinks; it must be accessible for periodic inspections by gas service workers;
  • the thickness of the stove is such that a compact dishwasher with a height limitation is more suitable for installation under it;
  • the gap between the PMM and the burners is filled with foil penofol - a material with vapor-tight properties and low thermal conductivity.

You cannot install gas appliances yourself at all, and especially not install a stove over a dishwasher. As an alternative to joint integration, you can consider purchasing a combined model of household appliances. The multifunctional appliance consists of a small dishwasher, a small oven, and four gas burners.

Another accommodation option

We put the PMM under the gas stove

This option comes with complications:

  • To avoid excessive heating of the dishwasher, you need to accurately calculate the distance between the devices and their sizes.
  • It is necessary to ensure free supply of hoses to the device - kinks and kinks are not allowed.
  • Due to the large thickness of the panel, it may be difficult to install the machine.
  • It is important to provide enhanced thermal insulation. For example, using foil foam. This material, having low thermal conductivity, will reflect thermal radiation. At the same time, penofol has water-repellent and vapor-proof properties.

Recommendations from experts

First, decide what type of surface will be placed above the dishwasher. As a rule, two options are considered: gas and induction. If you have not yet purchased these household gadgets, approach your choice taking into account the placement features:

Induction is preferable to gas type of panel, since induction heating in the lower part is quite weak and does not transfer heat to nearby objects;

As for the dishwasher, the built-in model definitely wins over the standard one, since there is a felt layer around the body, which provides excellent thermal insulation.

Induction hob

Even if you decide to entrust the installation to specialists, you need to know the basic installation requirements:

the distance between the housings of the dishwasher and the hob should not be less than 2.5 cm;

a moisture-insulating layer made of dense foil or foil foam must be laid in the gap between the housings;

choose the thinnest panel, no thicker than 5 cm, so that it fits optimally into the countertop and looks like one with it;

consider only devices with a height of up to 82 cm, otherwise, taking into account the margin between the cases, the design will be more comfortable, then the operation of the panel will become inconvenient;

consider the distance from the wall to the structure, it should allow all the necessary communications to be placed (hoses and wires are located freely, and creases, kinks, and squeezing are unacceptable);

the distance from the dishwasher body to the floor cannot be less than 1 cm, otherwise heat and air exchange may be disrupted;

The dishwasher also tends to get hot, especially from below, so placing it on the floor is not recommended.

The main thing in installation is to take high-quality measurements for the installation; be sure to keep in mind all the necessary gaps, the size of the legs, and the thickness of the walls. Ideally, you need to draw up a special drawing on which to record all these nuances. In a situation where placement of an induction panel is impossible for some reason, consider the option of a gas panel.

Gas panel

This is a rather difficult placement option that can cause a number of difficulties. After all, extremely stringent requirements are imposed on gas equipment. Failure to comply with them can lead to irreparable consequences, the most harmless of which will be equipment failure. Why you shouldn’t consider this combination of kitchen appliances:

the dishwasher tends to heat up, and the gas panel heats up even more, transferring additional heat to the machine, this is very harmful for this device;

the placement of gas hoses should be as free and accessible as possible, kinks are unacceptable, inspection by specialists should not cause any difficulties;

The thickness of the gas-type panel is quite noticeable; placing it on top of the dishwasher will create an unaesthetic design.

Thus, you should definitely not attempt to install a gas panel on a dishwasher yourself. Be sure to consult with a specialist or entrust such work to him completely. In any case, safety is more important than your desire to act independently.

Is it possible to place a PMM under a gas surface?

Good day! We are solving the most difficult question of how to place everything you need in a small kitchen (2m50X2m08). To save space, we wanted to abandon the oven and install a Nardi 45cm gas hob. and place a 45 cm dishwasher under it. Despite all the standards, they decided to make the height of the countertop a little higher - 90-93 cm. It seems more convenient to us, and it will probably be easier to connect the gas hose (there will be a distance between the dishwasher and the hob). Although we haven’t seen Nardi live yet and we don’t know how her hose is connected. But the masters from “stylish kitchens” disappointed us - they say that you can only install it under a gas surface. drawers, and only tall ones! They flatly refused to install boxes 10-15 cm high for forks and spoons or PMMs. What will the experienced say? Is it really impossible to do this, or are “stylish kitchens” playing it safe?

And here’s another question: if you still raise the level of the tabletop, make it non-standard, will this help resolve the issue. Perhaps it is possible to add some kind of thermal insulation to the resulting space?

IMHO, the VP doesn’t care what to place under it. It is no thicker than a tabletop in size. It doesn't get hot underneath.

Take a look at the discussion in this thread" >

turmarin I saw this topic, but unfortunately there is no answer to my question.

Hubert Are you sure it's not heating up? It’s just that the designer from the UK justified the refusal on the grounds of high temperature. How does the gas come from below, vertically or horizontally?

and Kvost’s answer to my post is not about installing a dishwasher under the stove.

if it’s the thickness of the cooking drawers, at least in Forem they were ready to supply us with anything we wanted except a dishwasher and washing machine.

2 turmarin Who knows, I didn’t notice any holes in the bottom of my VP (Ariston 640 of some kind). Maybe he wasn't paying attention? What, steam comes out of all the cracks in the PMM?

2 Oleg_D Gas burns only at the burner level. The grate usually gets heated, and from it, to a much lesser extent, the tray under the burners. Gas pipes do not heat up. In the end, the VP can be covered from below with a sheet of something. It does not exceed the thickness of the table top (38 mm).

You probably mean the answer about steam? The legs of the PMM are adjustable, allowing it to be installed under a tabletop with a height of 810-870mm. Our tabletop will be at a height of 900mm. hence we have a gap of 90mm which can be used for ventilation of the hob, installation of a heat insulator or something else. Or you can also do this - we make the box in which we install the PMM with a solid top cover, in which, in my opinion, steam cannot get into the ventilation holes of the hob. But this is the reasoning of an amateur. I hope the pros will help you on how to solve this more competently.
