How to use the air conditioner remote control: a variety of modes, instructions for use

How many times on hot days have you regretted the lack of air conditioning? And after the summer heat, they wanted to get into the coolness, and not into a stuffy room. And finally, the selected product at home is already installed. A new acquisition will change your life and make it more comfortable.

However, an air conditioner is not the simplest climate control equipment; you still need to figure it out. We will try to explain simply and clearly how it works, how to set the air conditioner for cold air and much more.

Here you will find detailed step-by-step instructions for transferring the operation of the climate system from one operating mode to another. Our tips will help you create an ideal microclimate in the room being treated. By following our recommendations, you will prevent breakdowns and premature wear of equipment.

Basic buttons

ON/OFF – turns the air conditioning system on and off.

HEAT – heating option. It helps bring the room temperature to the set point. Usually it is 30O. There will be a sun drawn on the remote control under the button. The system itself will monitor the temperature status - turn off when the set value is reached and start working again when the set point drops. This button is present only on those models that operate in heating mode. The air conditioner may have technical restrictions on the use of this mode at sub-zero temperatures outside - from -5 O to -15 O.

COOL – cooling mode. The minimum mark on the thermometer is 16O. This is the leading function button on the remote control. Indicated by the snowflake symbol.

DRY . Its functional significance is to remove excess air humidity in the room by slightly increasing the temperature. Excess moisture in the air at low temperatures leads to dampness, and at high temperatures it leads to stuffiness. Both phenomena are uncomfortable and cause problems with health and, in the long term, with furniture. Therefore, dehumidifying the air using the Dry button is mandatory at the slightest sign of waterlogging.

FAN, FAN SPEED, SPEED – air conditioner blowing speed. With its help, you can change the speed of air flow to smooth, medium intensity and fast. Included as an additional function in all operating modes of the air conditioning system.

AUTO – enable and maintain automatic mode. Temperature adjustment occurs at a comfortable level for humans, 22-24 degrees.

SWING, AIR FLOW, AIR DIRECTION . This button allows you to change the position of the curtains and thereby direct the air flow of a given temperature in the required direction.

TEMP with up/down arrows or + and - buttons. Use it to regulate the temperature. Each press is a step of one degree.

MODE . Mode selection button. By clicking on it, you can select the operating mode of the air conditioner that suits you.

TURBO, JET, JET COOL, POWERFUL, HI POWER . Automatically turns on the fan at a speed that will provide maximum cooling.

CLOCK . Shows the set time. Set by temperature arrows.

TIME ON (OFF) . Start and turn off the air conditioning system by time (check that you have set the Clock time). When setting the on and off times, the last temperature and mode settings are used. If you press this button again, the timer will be disabled. The time can be adjusted using the temperature arrows.

TIMER . On/off timer. Program your air conditioner in advance for the times when you need to heat or cool the room. You can set the time when it turns itself off.

SET . With its help you can set a timer and good sleep mode.

CANCEL . Cancels the timer and good sleep modes.

SETTINGS . These are the system settings.

SINGLE USER .
Reduces energy consumption in COOL mode.

What temperature should I set for sleeping?

Properly setting the air conditioner temperature can provide you with a comfortable sleep. Many modern models have a “sleep mode”; just turn it on and you can go to bed. The required temperature will be set automatically.

If it is not there, then the settings must be set manually:

  • Raise the temperature 1-2 degrees above daytime. At night, the human body cools down and additional heating is required.
  • Adjust the blinds so that air flows do not flow onto the bed.
  • Set the shaft rotation speed to minimum. In addition to maintaining the temperature regime, this will make the air conditioner quieter, which also contributes to a comfortable sleep.

Based on general recommendations, it turns out that the optimal temperature for sleeping will be 25-27 degrees.

“Sleep mode” works according to the following principle. First, it resets the fan speed to minimum. Secondly, it directs the blinds so that the air flows parallel to the floor. Thirdly, it increases the temperature to the desired level.

Some models increase the temperature in several stages. First, the temperature rises to 25-26 degrees, and by the middle of the night to 27. This allows you to sleep in comfortable conditions and not freeze

The only problem that may arise during sleep is ventilation. Having set the optimal air conditioner temperature for the night, do not forget that the windows must be closed, otherwise the equipment will wear out.

If the flow of clean air is very important, then you can leave a small gap in the window, but this is the permissible maximum.

Modern double-glazed windows have a micro-ventilation mode. It will be a good compromise between fresh air and comfortable temperature at night

Another option to solve this problem is to ventilate the room immediately before going to bed. During sleep, a person consumes significantly less oxygen and this should be enough for the whole night.

Frequent additional buttons

LOCK – the button means child lock. When pressed, it locks all other buttons.

LED, LIGHT – not available on all models. Turns on the backlight for the display at night.

SMART SAVER . When pressed, it maintains the room temperature within 24-30 degrees with minimal energy consumption. Operates in COOL mode.

BLOW, AUTO CLEAN, X-FAN, CLEAN . Automatic cleaning. Reduces mold growth by removing excess condensation from the interior of the unit.

SLEEP, GOOD SLEEP – night mode indicator. On the remote control it is indicated by a crescent symbol with an asterisk. Used at night or during rest periods, when extraneous noise may disturb. It turns the fan on silent mode and allows you to save energy. With its help, during sleep you can create very favorable conditions for yourself, in which the temperature changes by a degree up or down.

This button has three modes: Fall asleep (falling asleep), Sound sleep (deep sleep), Wake up (waking up). Turns on in Heating/Cooling mode.

ECO . Enables energy saving mode. The air conditioner operates at low speed. Can be used after pre-cooling a room to maintain already cooled air.

Air conditioner in heating mode

Before turning on the device for heating mode, you must make sure that the heating operation of the air conditioner is supported. If there is no documentation left for the air conditioner, then you need to find a description of this air conditioner model on the Internet, where everything will be described in detail. Also, the air temperature outside must correspond to the parameters specified in the operating instructions.

In each split system, the principle of operation of the air conditioner for heating is different. This refers to the temperature level at which the device can be turned on. The most common air conditioner can be turned on at temperatures up to 5 degrees Celsius. But there are also new models in which heating by air conditioning is allowed at a temperature of -25 degrees Celsius.

When you turn on the “heating” mode, cold air first comes in, but after 5-10 minutes it begins to heat up. Not everyone knows about this feature and therefore begins to intensively press the “heating mode” button. But such maneuvers harm the device. To avoid such misunderstandings, after turning on the heating mode, you need to wait 5 to 10 minutes. This time will be enough to warm up the indoor unit and after that the air will begin to warm up.

In addition, the external unit of the split system has a peculiarity - at low temperatures it begins to freeze. And then automatic defrosting starts. The principle of operation is that the fans stop within ten minutes, and melt water comes out through a special tube.

Rare buttons

There are a number of buttons with specific functionality that are not found on all air conditioner models.

ION, PLASMA, HEALTH . Ionization mode. Fills the room with negatively charged ions. This creates a feeling of freshness in the room. This mode has a negative effect on bacteria and viruses and eliminates unpleasant odors.

I-FEEL . The system will maintain the set temperature by directing the air flow vertically.

Wi-Fi . Indicated by the Wi-Fi icon. Thanks to the built-in GSM module, you can control the air conditioner using an application installed on your smartphone.

TEMP . As a separate button, it allows you to view the current temperature in the room.

SENSOR . This button activates the Intelligent Eye feature. Using a special built-in sensor, the system detects a person’s movement in the room and automatically turns on in the mode of preset parameters. If the system does not detect the presence of a person in the room for more than twenty minutes, it goes into energy saving mode. With this function, you don’t have to worry about the electrical appliance not being turned off.

In your absence, you need to make sure that large pets do not check the functionality of this sensor. It will turn on when it detects movement of an object measuring twenty centimeters or more.

The main function of the air conditioner and, accordingly, the button on the remote control is to cool the room, COOL. But each model has its own features and additional functions that significantly expand the capabilities of the system. Standard names of buttons from all manufacturers will help you not to get confused in their purpose, regardless of the model.

Cooling

Basic mode. This is often why a split system is purchased. The main function is to reduce the temperature in the room. You need to set the split system to cold using the remote control.

Usually on the remote control it is indicated in English by the word “cool” or depicted as a drawn snowflake. You can also select the desired temperature using the remote control. When the desired microclimate of the room is reached, the external unit of the device stops working, and the internal one will work to maintain the set parameters.

If the room temperature rises, the outdoor unit will start working again and it will drop to the optimal temperature.

Typically, the external unit is connected when the temperature deviates from the desired one by 2-3 degrees. Thus, the room will constantly maintain the level that was initially selected using the remote control.

Types of remote control devices

The remote control is classified into two types according to the operating principle and connection method:

  • infrared wireless;
  • wall-mounted

Let's look at the main features of each type of device.

Infrared models

In household air cooling systems, the infrared remote control model is most often used. It is a small device with buttons and has infrared emitters on the sides that transmit a signal to the photodetector of the split system.

Externally, such devices differ little from each other. Original remote controls for air conditioners can be equipped with the following functions:

  • display;
  • built-in thermometer;
  • backlight

The main disadvantages of infrared switches are their small range (about 8 m) and the fact that a small device can easily get lost in an apartment.

Wall-mounted remote controls

Wall switches for cooling systems are convenient for use in large rooms. Unlike infrared models, their range is unlimited, since the remote control is connected to the device through a wire system.

Using a wall switch, you can change the air conditioner operating mode for an entire office from one remote control.

Wall-mounted remote control units are usually not installed in residential buildings, since they cannot be moved around the apartment, and for its installation you will need to lay a separate cable.

Device classification

All air conditioners are divided into the following main types:

  • window models - installed in a window opening;
  • wall-mounted version - consists of two blocks, the evaporator is located indoors, and the remote one is located outside;
  • floor-mounted models - installation on the floor, with hot air exhausted through a window;
  • combined class.

In addition, experts divide split systems according to functional features:

  • cooling only;
  • cold/warm;
  • work at low and fairly high temperatures;
  • various additional features.

The latter option may include functions such as ionization, humidification, aromatization and air purification.

What needs to be done to turn on the split system without a remote control

  1. We find where the treasured button is located. If it is not visible on the case, then open the front cover, under which the filters are located. Lift the lid at the bottom from the sides towards you (at the same time you can wash the filters);
  2. We connect the air conditioner to the power supply;
  3. If the button is “recessed”, then use any suitable object (a pen, for example) to press it once. In this case, the air conditioner turns on either in the “auto” mode or in the “cool” mode (cooling). You can observe for 5-10 minutes what mode it works in. If it works for heating in the “auto” mode, then pressing the button again will switch it to cooling. But do not forget that the cold flow will not work if the temperature in the room is already low.

It is clear that to turn off the air conditioner you need to press the button again (probably twice). The only thing about turning it off is that it may not turn off right away - you still have to work for a few minutes to dry it out (up to 20 minutes). Afterwards you can disconnect the “condenser” from the power supply.

Turning on the air conditioner

Using this manual, you will learn how to turn on and properly configure a household air conditioner. Any home air conditioner remote control has 5 main buttons. Let's arrange them in order of decreasing importance in use:

  • “on/off” button—turns the air conditioner on and off;
  • “temp” buttons (“up”, “down” or “+”, “-”) - increase and decrease the required temperature;
  • “fan” button (“fan speed”) – adjusting the air supply speed (shaft rotation speed);
  • “swing” button—changes the position of the blinds (direction of air supply);
  • “mode” button – switching modes: cold, heat, dehumidification, ventilation, auto;

Let's say we have never used an air conditioner, or have just installed it, or do not know what mode it is set in (heat, cold, etc.) In order to check the functionality of the device, you can follow the following instructions.

How to start the air conditioner using the remote control?

The air conditioner starts to operate by pressing the “on/off” button on the remote control. After this, a beep sounds, a green LED on the panel, called AIRCON, lights up and the blinds open.

Then the question arises, how to set the air conditioner to cold or warm mode, turn on ventilation or drying? For this purpose, there is a “MODE” button, each press of which switches the current mode to another. In this way you choose the most suitable option for you.

To set the required temperature, you need to use the “+” and “-” buttons, depending on whether you want to turn on heating or cooling of the room. It is worth noting that some air conditioner models have a very limited temperature range, which should be clarified in advance before the purchase process so as not to be upset later. Also make sure to select the temperature according to the mode you are using. For example, when using the “heating” mode, it will not be possible to create a cool flow of air masses in the room.

If you are using dehumidification or automatic mode, the fan speed is not adjustable. In this case, the fan itself sets the necessary parameters.

When you select the “timer” function, you program the automatic operation of the fan for the next 24 hours. This is done using the “TIMER” button located on the remote control. “START” will appear on its screen and the initial time after which the air conditioner will turn on. By pressing the SET button you can increase this range from 0 to 10 hours. By pressing “START” again, you program the air conditioner to turn off, which is set in a similar way.

Nuances of operation

Modern models of air conditioners are quite complex household appliances, the setup of which requires compliance with basic rules.

  1. It is necessary to clearly select the power of the product depending on the volume of the room: in regions with very hot climates it is necessary to install systems with higher power, with improved cooling characteristics.
  2. Always correlate the operating mode of the product with the weather conditions outside.
  3. In order to prevent the occurrence of any colds, it is necessary to fine-tune the equipment in cold mode.
  4. Carry out regular maintenance - these measures will allow you to ensure normal operation of the product and a safe and comfortable microclimate for the whole family.
  5. Installation, maintenance and repair of equipment should only be done by professionals.

Climate systems can be installed in any premises, regardless of their configuration and dimensions, because modern technology copes with the task without any problems. The user must only follow all the rules and recommendations stated in this article.

New generation remote controls

Manufacturers of modern household appliances are trying to make the process of using them as simple as possible. Therefore, even the more mature generation can be taught how to use the air conditioner remote control for its effective operation. Thanks to the clear and comfortable interface, as well as convenient buttons, this process will not cause any inconvenience.

Now you can easily turn on air extraction, ventilation or ionization while sitting on the sofa or in another part of the room. But make sure that there are no obstacles in the signal transmission path between the remote control and the air conditioner.

But there are situations when such an important element as the remote control breaks due to mechanical damage or is lost. The only thing you can do is turn on the air conditioner using the button on its side, if, of course, it is present there. In addition, the work will be carried out in automatic mode, so it is not possible to adjust the temperature, speed and direction of air mass flow.

In this case, there are two options left. Firstly, you can try to find an original sample from the same company. But remote controls from different manufacturers are often difficult to find, which takes a lot of time. In addition, they have a fairly high price.

Secondly, you can purchase a universal plan remote control. Such a product can be found in almost every household appliance store, and can also be ordered online. In addition, if you have more than one air conditioner in your house or apartment, then there will no longer be a need to get confused in a large number of remote controls; one such copy will control all the equipment.

Thus, the remote control is a really important element in the operation process, especially when it comes to the operation of the air conditioner. Thanks to it, you will be able to fully use your equipment and create the most comfortable conditions for you in your home.

Designation of icons on the air conditioner remote control

The number of buttons and their meanings depends on the brand of air conditioner. Symbols are applied to the buttons or they may simply have an inscription.

So, what do the icons on the air conditioner mean:

  • On/off—turns the device on and off.
  • Snowflake (cool) - cooling.
  • Sun (heat) - heating. Only those models that support this feature have it.
  • Drop (dry) - drying. Needed to remove excess moisture from the room.
  • Fan (fan) - changes the fan speed.
  • Four arrows to the side (swing) - change the position of the curtains, directing the flow in the desired direction.
  • Asterisk (sleep) - turns on the night mode, in which the device begins to operate at low speeds.
  • The up/down arrows or plus and minus arrows allow you to make the temperature higher/lower.
  • Clock (timer) - sets the operating time of the air conditioner.
  • MODE - selects the operating mode.
  • CLOCK - sets the time
  • LED - turns on the backlight of the remote control display.

Air conditioner thermostat

A device for controlling an air conditioner and also regulating its temperature.

The thermostat voltage is usually 24 watts. The device does not require specialized installation.

Usually installed on a wall that is not affected by additional air flows, light rays, or heat from heating radiators.

The thermostat does not require any special care. It is necessary to keep it clean and dry.

Using a thermostat, you can set your old air conditioner to cold by selecting the desired temperature mode, as well as set a warm temperature to heat the room.

Additional air conditioner operating modes and icons on the remote control

Many modern models of split systems have various options that simplify management.

"Intelligent Eye"

Using a motion sensor, the device detects the presence of a person in the room. After this, the system begins to operate in the established mode. If no more movement is detected within 20 minutes, the device will go into energy-saving mode. There are no buttons on the remote control; the “eye” is built into the body of the device.

"Smart Eye"

The “eye” detects that the person has left the room and reduces the speed. It also turns on at nightfall.

"I Feel"

The device will maintain the temperature in the place where the remote control is located. Indicated on the remote control as “ifeel”.

"Self-diagnosis"

It is turned on by simultaneously pressing the entire temp and mode buttons. The microprocessor controls the operating mode of the split system, as well as the state of the units. In the event of a malfunction, the device gives a signal using a combination of LEDs on the panel of the external unit.

Ionization

Indicated by the “Ion” button. In this mode, the room is filled with negatively charged ions, which create a feeling of freshness. In addition, they kill viruses that fly in the air.

Control via Wi-Fi or GSM

The device has a built-in Wi-Fi or GSM module, which allows you to control the air conditioner using a mobile phone.

The number of functions affects the final cost of the air conditioner. Often you can easily do without many without compromising the quality of cooling.

Icons and buttons on the internal unit of the split system

Almost all indoor units have one “magic button” with which you can turn on the air conditioner with automatic settings. Usually it is unnoticeable - it is located under the front cover of the unit on the case or on the display. Indicated by “auto” or “on/off”. You cannot configure the necessary parameters using this button - you will need a remote control, at least a universal one (if the standard one is lost). Read more about this hidden button at the link below (to the article about turning on the air conditioner without a remote control).

Instructions for setting up the air conditioner in different modes

If you need to turn on the air conditioner in a certain mode, then my website already has all the instructions:

  • turning on the air conditioner for cooling;
  • setting for heating;
  • turning on automatic mode;
  • setting the drying mode;
  • turning on the ventilation mode;
  • setting up an air conditioner without a remote control;
  • control of the split system using the phone.

The buttons and functions discussed in this article are most often found on remote controls, but you can also come across “sophisticated” remote controls, which also have all the same options, but are only labeled in an unusual way. Examples: round remote controls on LG Stylist, also strange symbols on Electrolux remote controls, and others.

Special abilities

There are a number of special features found mainly in premium models. They are aimed at creating a healthy microclimate, economical energy consumption and ease of system management.

  • Air cleaning . The issue of multi-level air purification is receiving increased attention today. Climate control equipment is equipped with fine filters (carbon, electrostatic, ultrasonic, enzyme) designed to remove bacteria, dust, pollen, animal hair and unpleasant odors.
  • Ionization . Ionization is the saturation of air with negatively charged particles that have a positive effect on human health. Ionization has an antibacterial effect, removes tobacco smoke, unpleasant odors, and toxic chemical compounds.
  • Volume flow . The 3D Auto function makes the blinds work in different directions. As a result, a volumetric air flow is created that reaches the most inaccessible corners of the room. This air supply ensures a constant microclimate and the absence of drafts.
  • I Feel . The option is aimed at automatically selecting a mode that is comfortable for the owner. It is based on the analysis of data such as the current room temperature, humidity level and user activity history. Depending on the information received, the device begins to heat, cool, dry the air, etc.
  • Night mode . Provides restful sleep for household members. After pressing the corresponding button, the system begins to work more quietly, creating ideal conditions for deep and long sleep. When you select the specified program, the system goes into economy mode.
  • ECO saving mode . Allows you to enjoy all the benefits of technology and save approximately 25% of electricity. That is, the climate system will maintain the temperature at a comfortable level, while operating in conditions of minimal noise and economical consumption of energy resources.
  • Smart eye .
    The smart eye (motion sensor) is aimed at creating a favorable atmosphere and reducing energy consumption. If the sensor detects the presence of people in the room, the indoor unit will begin to regulate the air direction, preventing the flow from reaching those present. If there is no movement for a certain time (on average 20 minutes), the system switches to economy mode. Video. I See sensor function in Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners
  • Warm start . The function will become indispensable in the cool season, when the device works for heating. “Warm start” eliminates the supply of cool air to the room. This is done by temporarily blocking the fan (until the freon reaches the parameters required for heating).
  • WiFi. The device can be controlled without using a remote control - via a computer, tablet or smartphone. The function is relevant for devices equipped with a Wi-Fi module. To turn the air conditioner on or off, set the desired temperature and air flow speed, select the mode and position of the dampers, you need to download a special application.

Turning on the air conditioner without using the remote control

Is it possible to turn on the device without a remote control and without Wi-Fi control? Yes! To do this, you will need to find a backup button located on the case or under the cover. Often it is highlighted. It is worth noting that when turned on in this way, only 2 modes can be activated - “Auto” and “Cooling”.

The number of modes in air conditioner models from different manufacturers can vary widely. Before purchasing climate control equipment, decide which functions you need first. This will help you choose a model that will fully meet your expectations and be affordable.

Instructions for setting up a universal remote control

Regardless of the model, all universal devices are configured according to the same principle, which consists of entering the required code into the remote control memory. Ideally, the remote control comes with instructions with a table of codes for different models of climate control equipment. The remote control is configured in two modes - automatic and manual.

Automatic mode is especially convenient if you do not know which model your air conditioner belongs to, or its name is simply not in the code table. In any case, the first thing you need to do is carefully study the instructions that came with the remote control.

Setting up the remote control manually

Some remotes can only be set up manually, which can take about 2 hours.

After you have studied the instructions, you will need to program the air conditioner yourself, manually selecting the codes written in the column of the manufacturer of your climate control equipment.

For each air conditioner manufacturer there are about 6 different codes that you have to manually enter to configure the universal device

Insert batteries into the remote control and turn it on by pressing the appropriate button. Next, the main operating modes of your climate control equipment should light up. You should also find the name of your equipment in advance in order to enter the appropriate code to configure the remote control.

Click on the “Select” , then enter the first code from the table indicated after the brand name. In this case, the code is entered using the number buttons on the remote control. Press “Select” again and confirm the action by pressing the “OK” button.

Next, you will need to check all operating modes of the air conditioner using the new remote control. If the basic functions do not work, then you should try entering the following code from the table. You may have to repeat this step several times until you find the code you want.

Automatic remote control setting mode

If the code for your split system is not in the table presented, then you should configure the device automatically.

This method differs from the previous one only in that you do not have to manually enter all the codes.

Before purchasing a universal remote control, be sure to make sure that in addition to manual mode, it also supports automatic code search

Point the remote control at the equipment so that it can receive all of its commands. Press and hold the “Select” button for 30 seconds. During this time, the device will go into automatic code search mode, sending commands and searching through all possible codes, starting from 0001.

After the remote control starts controlling the air conditioner, you will hear a characteristic signal coming from the air conditioning equipment. To stop the code scanning process, press any button on the remote control, then use the remote control to check whether all air conditioner commands are working.

If the remote control only partially controls your air conditioner without switching between operating modes, then you should start the code search process again. This will have to be done until the remote control controls the split system correctly.

The remote control stopped working after setting the code

Even after finding the correct code, a situation may arise that the remote control completely stops working. First of all, you should check whether the air conditioner is connected to the network.

If the air conditioner is turned on in the system and there have been no power failures, it is important to check if the code you set is correct.

A similar situation may arise due to a simple failure in the electrical network, which arose against the background of its overload with other electrical appliances in your home

If the remote control works, try setting the code to auto-search again or enter it yourself. And only if the remote control and air conditioner do not respond, the problem may be a breakdown of the climate control equipment.

Recommendations for use

There are special rules on the basis of which the air conditioner is operated at home.

  1. It is necessary to regularly clean the outdoor unit, especially the inlet grille.
  2. All windows and doors to the outside must be closed when the split system is turned on. Such measures prevent overloading the product.
  3. You cannot use the air conditioner continuously throughout the day.
  4. Timely maintenance increases the duration of proper operation of the split unit.
  5. When the filters of the indoor unit become clogged with settled dust, users can independently remove, wash and dry them naturally without using a hairdryer, so as not to damage the delicate mesh.

  6. It is allowed to connect several internal devices to one remote unit.

To follow these recommendations, you just need to carefully read the instructions that are developed for each air conditioner model.
