What is better chainsaw Shtil (STIHL) or Husqvarna (HUSQVARNA): comparison, which one to choose

Manufacturers Stihl and Husqvarna are leaders in their field. Both companies are constantly modernizing their products, including chainsaws. Considering this fact, it is difficult to immediately say which chainsaw - Shtil or Husqvarna is better. Only after comparison will the buyer be able to finally determine this for himself.

Chainsaws from both manufacturers are of high quality and, with careful handling and care, will serve the owner for a long time.

Popular models include Husqvarna 135, 236 and 240, Stihl 180.

Husqvarna or Calm

Husqvarna or Shtil - which of these chainsaws is better?
An intriguing question, isn't it? I am sure that many connoisseurs of these brands of instruments have asked, are asking and will continue to ask. Of course, there are other worthy manufacturers of chainsaws, but it was Husqvarna and Shtil that were made to adapt to our Russian conditions, it was these companies that earned trust and respect in the hands of the stern Russian peasant for many years! And if so, so be it, let’s consider these brands and this difficult question - Husqvarna or Shtil?

In fact, such a topical question, in my opinion, is equivalent to the unsolved problem that has eternally tormented all scientific minds - who was born, a chicken or an egg? After all, this theorem really has ardent supporters of the chicken, and there are ardent opponents - supporters of the egg. So in our case – adherents of Husqvarna and admirers of Shtil. Let's look at this difficult question

To begin with, it is necessary to specifically pose the question - what exactly in these saws from different companies interests this or that supporter: appearance, power, convenience, reliability, service life, price. What is the purpose of using the saw - professional or for everyday household needs.

Let's look at the professional saws of Huska and Shtil and evaluate their appearance.

As they say: “there are no comrades according to taste and color.” It’s really difficult to objectively say which saw has a more aesthetic appearance, but the designers of both companies tried to make their brainchild look decent, so the choice is individual for everyone. The case itself and its fastenings raise questions among many. I mean the need to dismantle the tool - unscrew the covers and the like. According to some, Stihl wins in this. That, they say, in “field conditions” the opening of Shtil is carried out more quickly and the risk of losing fastening elements is minimal. Try to open both models I offer - I personally did not notice any tangible advantages in Huska and Shtil, for the life of me!

Speaking of “lids”! If we consider “winter-summer” protection, which prevents the penetration of moisture and snow into the saw’s carburetor (and cooling in the summer), then, in my opinion, the Husky design is much better. I know that many will begin to argue and argue that Shtil’s “device”, which includes a separate top cover with a marking jumper and a “side” on the starter, is more convenient and reliable, but in practice it’s no more effective than Husqvarna’s protection.

We know well that when a saw “grabs” snow during felling in winter, it begins to “cough, spit” and stall. I worked with both presented models for a considerable time and I confidently declare that Shtil in this regard is much more capricious than his opponent! And the Husqvarna filter is made of better quality than the Shtil filter.

To disassemble the saw in the forest at the workplace and quickly fix the problem, you need an asterisk wrench. For Husqvarna, one main key is quite enough, which in itself is more convenient to use than Shtil’s “balloon”.

Both companies have a wide selection of professional and household models (of course, also farm models). However, some modifications of the company are manufactured directly in different countries. For example, the Husqvarna company represents chainsaws of specific models by other manufacturers in the following countries:

  • 137E and 142E – Husqvarna plant in the USA;
  • 257, 254XP, 262XP, 262XPH – Husqvarna factories in Russia, in the well-known city of Khimki
  • 268, 61, 55, 272XP, 281XP, 288XP – Husqvarna plant in Brazil.

The remaining models of chainsaws are produced directly in Husqvarna’s homeland, that is, in Sweden. If you come across another country of manufacture not mentioned above, then this is a fake!

As for Shtil, judging by WIKI information, it is the best-selling brand of chainsaws on the planet.

The geography of the legendary company's factories is as follows: Germany, USA, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil and China. In the homeland of the saw, Germany, there are 3 powerful factories that specialize in specific saw components and units. In one they produce crankshafts, polymer parts, tires, in another - electric saws, in the third - parts made of magnesium alloy. At the plant in the USA, crankshafts, tires, spare parts are manufactured, piston parts are processed and units are assembled. The most popular brand of Shtil MS 180, which is purchased by the majority of the population in Russia, is produced and assembled at a factory in the USA. In Brazil, in addition to the classic list of product manufacturing, they also produce pistons and cylinders. Saw chains are being manufactured in Switzerland, and blowers are being manufactured in Austria. And, of course, how can we do without China, which probably produces everything for the Shtil saw.

So what are we looking at - what models? Let's evaluate the saws from the professional line, those that, in my opinion, are most popular and used in our logging operations. I mean Stihl 361 and Husqvarna 365 SP.

The cost of these saws is almost the same: Husqvarna 365 SP - 22,990 rubles, STIHL MS0 rubles. Naturally, one should take into account the difference in cost depending on the region; in some places it is significantly less, and in others it is more. There are some differences in technical parameters:

Husqvarna 365 SP:

Calm MS 361 16:

Of course, the STIHL MS 361 18 has more similar characteristics to the Husqvarna 365 SP, but the price is already higher, so we will be equal in cost of the product.

As we can see, Husqvarna has a larger displacement compared to Shtil with the same power. Most likely, the same power is achieved by increasing the speed of the Shtil engine, and from this we can conclude that the load on the engine increases. Accordingly, the Stihl engine is subject to greater wear and reduced piston operation. Though…

However, there is unconfirmed information that the Huska 365 is assembled not in Sweden, but in Turkey, and the quality of the piston and cylinder is in great doubt. On the contrary, Shtil is distinguished by its build quality, individual components of which are assembled in certain factories under the control of the company. So these are not compelling arguments for the quality of the two companies.

Another equally discussed and controversial issue in the “case of Shtil and Husk” is the cutting set: bar and chains. Global dispute

So, what is the significant difference between Huskvarna and Shtil saw bars? That's right - by the presence of inlet holes for lubrication of the driven sprocket: Shtil does not have them, Husqvarnaya has them. I would like to immediately make a reservation that these comments apply to the standard equipment of the saws sold; the tires can be replaced additionally according to your decision. So is this a disadvantage or an advantage?

Shtil thought this was unnecessary in the design of the tire, since the driven sprocket on the tire is fully lubricated. In addition, to increase the service life, it is supposed to fill the gearbox with specialized oil, which will ensure proper penetration and lubrication of the saw elements. But is this significant for us - the Russians, who pour not only autol, but also testing into the gearbox of the tool. Not only is the sprocket here, but the oil pump also can’t stand it!

How are chainsaws different?

Stihl and Husqvarna are without a doubt the leaders in the production and sale of gasoline-powered chainsaws. Thanks to serious competition, every year each company develops many new technical solutions, introducing which makes it easier and more comfortable to use their tools. For example, Shtil has such technical innovations as:

  • The STIHL M-Tronic system, which makes starting the chainsaw easier thanks to a fully electronic ignition system. The system independently distinguishes a cold start from a hot one. M-Tronic also accurately sets the ignition timing and regulates the amount of fuel mixture at the moment the chainsaw starts;

  • HD2 filter. This filter is made of polyethylene, which has pores that are 70 percent smaller than a conventional filter. It repels oil and is easy to clean, which adds comfort when servicing the chainsaw on which it is installed;

  • compensator. This is a special device in the carburetor that allows you to operate a chainsaw even with a completely dirty air filter, and an important feature is that the saw practically does not lose power;
  • the catalyst burns unburnt fuel, due to which the chainsaw exhaust contains fewer harmful impurities that adversely affect the human body.

If you look at the technical innovations of the Husqvarna company, you can also highlight several interesting systems:

If you take two chainsaws of the same volume from the Shtil and Husqvarna companies, they will be similar only in that they are equipped with an internal combustion engine, a tire and a saw chain. But everything, even the standard elements of these chainsaws, differ in size, shape and materials from which they are made. Moreover, it is worth noting that thanks to the efforts of engineers, with the same cylinder volume, Stihl chainsaws have greater maximum power, which will be noticeable when comparing specific models of chainsaws.

Pros and cons of Calm

Stihl chainsaws are considered one of the most reliable and for this reason are very popular among professional lumberjacks who are accustomed to working with powerful and reliable chainsaws. But if you look at the sales statistics for Shtil household chainsaws, you can conclude that they, too, are particularly popular. For example, the Shtil MS 180 chainsaw, from the moment it went on sale, annually occupies top positions in the ratings of such Internet portals as Yandex Market.

The advantages of Shtil 180 include:

  • Light weight, 3.9 kg;
  • Power sufficient to carry out work in the garden and beyond;
  • Maintainability and availability of the Shtil company, a large number of well-organized services;
  • The quality of the materials from which the chainsaw bodies are made.

All these advantages can be attributed to any product of the German company, but there is also one main disadvantage.

Compared to competitors, Stihl chainsaws have a fairly high cost of both the tools themselves and the spare parts intended for their repair.

In turn, the high price of spare parts stimulates the emergence of a large number of low-quality spare parts intended to replace original ones and manufactured mainly in China. Installation of such spare parts is carried out in service centers that are not authorized to repair Stihl chainsaws, which entails a reduction in the service life of the tools and adversely affects the image of the manufacturer.

Recently, the Shtil company began to produce the most popular chainsaw model, the Shtil MS 180, at a factory located in China. As company representatives explain, this is due to large volumes of products and preferential conditions for production. Representatives also note that the transfer of production did not affect the quality of products in any way, for the reason that control of all stages of production remained at the same level.

Stihl - the emergence of the brand and modern assortment

The story began back in the 1920s. The company was founded by Andreas Stihl, an engineer and designer from Stuttgart (a city in Germany). In Stuttgart there was a design bureau engaged in wood processing, the creator of which was Shtil. He understood how hard the work of lumberjacks was, who felled the forest using ordinary axes, and wanted to make their work easier for them.

So, 9 years after the founding of the company, a chain saw appeared, weighing 46 kg - however, the tool could be carried, and this was a huge step forward in abandoning bulky sawmill machines or manual cutting of wood. Compact saws appeared much later, already in the 1950s, their power reached 6 horsepower, and their weight did not exceed 12 kg. With such tools, logging proceeded at a rapid pace, and loggers were able to produce more cubic meters of wood.

The ranking of global manufacturers of gasoline saws, of course, belongs to two companies - Stihl and Husqvarna. The tools of these manufacturers have a good reputation in all countries of the world, are distinguished by high quality and many years of trouble-free operation.

Chainsaw STIHL MS 170

Often these days you can find a copy or fake of a famous chainsaw on sale. Such copies are stamped in factories in China, and factory assembly is not always bad. It’s worse when saws are assembled in underground workshops - then it’s hard to vouch for the quality.

The original Shtil chainsaw can be recognized by the following differences:

  • cost - it is several times lower than you are used to seeing on the Internet or a tool store, the original is always more expensive, it has a better and more reliable assembly;
  • weight - the original saw always weighs more due to high-quality plastic, denser than that of a fake;
  • condition of parts, quality of metal;
  • high power that the chainsaw produces without interruption;
  • high-quality chain, links with standard pitch;
  • It is better to choose a chainsaw based on reviews, comments on forums, advice from experienced users and based on the recommendations of sellers at specialized points of sale.

Stihl chainsaws are supplied in the following configuration:

  • working tool - saw;
  • chainsaw owner's manual;
  • box with image and Shtil logo;
  • instructions for the unit, which shows the structure of the Shtil chainsaw;
  • universal assembly key;
  • Some models include such elements as a tire cover and protective accessories.

Chainsaw Stihl MS 260

The Stihl company offers its potential customers the following types of products:

  • chainsaws and electric trimmers;
  • garden equipment, in particular lawn mowers, hedge trimmers;
  • battery-powered equipment, for example, drills, screwdrivers, electric screwdrivers;
  • gardening tools, manual and automated, motor drills;
  • equipment for working with all types of equipment;
  • combined garden systems, multifunctional systems for garden work;
  • saws for concrete, equipment for clearing snow, for removing leaves.

Pros and cons of Husqvarna

One of the advantages of Husqvarna chainsaws is their cost; as a rule, it is slightly lower than that of Stihl tools, although the difference in some cases is insignificant. You can also note the build quality of the tools and the materials from which they are made.

Husqvarna chainsaws are produced in many countries, including at a plant in the town of Khimki near Moscow.

The most popular model, for example, Husqvarna 135, has a price slightly lower than that of its competitor Shtil MS 180. We will compare these models in more detail a little later, but for now I would like to note that the European environmental standard is clearly visible in Husqvarna’s technical solutions. This means that the company primarily cares about the quality of the tool’s exhaust, which in some cases forces it to sacrifice the maximum power of chainsaws. A striking example of such a company policy is the X-Torq® system. For the Russian Federation, this system is useless, because in our country there are no strict standards for exhaust quality.

Comparison of the most popular models of Stihl and Husqvarna chainsaws

If we compare the popular Stihl and Husqvarna tools in terms of power, then the main competitor of Husqvarna’s Stihl 180 is the Husqvarna 135 model.

The power of both is 1.5 kW. At the moment, Husqvarna loses not only in cost, since its price is slightly higher, but also in the volume of the cylinder, which is 40.9 cm³, while the Shtil has a volume of 31.8 cm³. If we consider this difference from a technical point of view, we can conclude that the Husqvarna engine with such a volume should consume more fuel, since the consumption of the fuel mixture is directly related to the volume of the cylinder.

The second point where Husqvarna loses to Shtil 180 is weight. Shtil weighs 3.9 kg, and Husqvarna is half a kilogram more. The difference is small, but still.

The advantage of Husqvarna 135 compared to Shtil 180 is the quick-removable filter, which can be washed and used after repeated cleaning. Shtil does not have this, but it is possible to choose an additional set of tools, for example, purchase Shtil 180C or 180C-BE, which have an easier start, as well as the ability to adjust the chain tension, without the help of additional tools.

Thus, when choosing between the 180 Stihl or the Husqvarna 135, it is wiser and more profitable to purchase the Stihl 180, since it has long been the most popular chainsaw in the Russian Federation, unlike Husqvarna.

For those who live in rural areas and do not have the opportunity to repair tools in service centers, purchasing a Shtil 180 is more advisable for the reason that this chainsaw can be repaired independently.

Now let's compare the 180 with the budget version of Husqvarna, the 236 model.

Its power is 1.4 kW, which is already lower than that of the Shtil 180 chainsaw, and the working volume is higher and amounts to 38.2 cm³. The price is slightly lower than the Shtil 180, but is it worth saving while losing power and, accordingly, performance.

Another Husqvarna model that the 180 can be compared to is the Husqvarna 240.

Their price and engine power are the same, but Husqvarna loses in weight and cylinder volume. Its weight is 4.7 kg, which is almost a whole kilogram more than the Shtil 180, and its volume is 38.2 cm³.

Comparison by weight

The weight of the saw blades is as follows (without bar and chain):

  • Hitachi CS33EB 3.8 kg
  • Stihl MS 170 and MS 180 3.9 kg
  • Echo CS-352ES 4 kg
  • Husqvarna 135 4.4 kg.

Here, the less weight the better. The leaders are here. chainsaw from Hitachi, although saws from Shtil and Echo are not far behind. Husqvarna is clearly losing. And while the 600 gram excess doesn't look like much compared to the Hitachi, it feels good when running and the user will tire more quickly with the 135 saw than with the Hitachi or Calm. In addition, the overall dimensions of the Husqvarna chainsaw are also superior to other saws, which again makes the comparison not in its favor.

Calm or Husqvarna: who to choose?

Manufacturers Stihl and Husqvarna are leaders in their field. Both companies are constantly modernizing their products, including chainsaws. Considering this fact, it is difficult to immediately say which chainsaw - Shtil or Husqvarna is better. Only after comparison will the buyer be able to finally determine this for himself.

Chainsaws from both manufacturers are of high quality and, with careful handling and care, will serve the owner for a long time.

Popular models include Husqvarna 135, 236 and 240, Stihl 180.

Comparison of Shtil and Husqvarna chainsaws

To make the right choice of chainsaw from Shtil or Husqvarna, you need to know their characteristics.

Characteristics of Husqvarna devices

  • Clear design and operation of products;
  • Environmental friendliness;
  • Powerful pistons and crankshaft;
  • Fuel lift pump;
  • A number of additional options (Air Injection system, X-Torq, AutoTune).
  • Expensive spare parts;
  • Many models weigh more than Stihl chainsaws.

Characteristics of Stihl devices

  • Low vibration level;
  • Light weight crankshaft and connecting rod;
  • Smooth start;
  • Continuous operation even under high loads;
  • Protrusions on the piston (2 pcs.) increase engine life;
  • Will not break due to accidental use of low quality gasoline;
  • Get to work quickly;
  • Efficient cooling system.
  • High noise level of products;
  • The price is higher than that of a competing company.

The products of this company are popular among professional lumberjacks. Plus - cheap repair and maintenance of devices. In some cases, you can repair the chainsaw yourself.

Engine type and size

If we compare two identical chainsaws, Stihl and Husqvarna, their similarity will be limited only by the presence of an engine (on average 1.5 kW), a bar and a saw chain. Even small structural parts have typical differences in volume and materials from which they are made.

An important difference is that even with the same cylinder volume, Shtil products are more powerful than those of competitors.

Bar length and cutting depth

The average length of a chainsaw bar designed for garden work from both companies is 40-50 cm. The depth of the cut directly depends on the length of the bar. Both companies produce quality products. But Stihl models are quite easy to repair yourself in case of an unexpected breakdown, and spare parts cost less and are much easier to find on sale.

Power and fuel consumption

The power of the products is 1.5 kW. In this case, Husqvarna is inferior to Stihl. Despite the same power, the Husqvarna's cylinder capacity is larger than that of the Stihl. Accordingly, fuel consumption is also higher.

It's also worth noting that some Husqvarna products offer AutoTune. This system stabilizes engine operation using optimal parameter settings.

Ease of use

The ergonomics of any product is determined by several parameters:

  • The material from which the device is made;
  • Build quality;
  • A set of additional functions.

If we talk about the first two positions, then neither company has an advantage here. Both manufacturers use high-strength materials that make cutting trees comfortable. Each company has its own set of options, which are quoted to meet the specific needs of the consumer.

Husqvarna has a fuel priming pump. Those who are familiar with the operation of a chainsaw first-hand know that if the gas runs out, the saw will stall, and after refilling the tank it will take time to “spin up.” Husqvarna saves the consumer from waiting time and the device will start immediately.

Shtil has another advantage - the top cover can be easily removed. This is convenient when, for example, a spark plug is flooded and you need to quickly change it. Husqvarna's lid is screwed on, so experienced lumberjacks always remove one or two screws after purchase.

Another feature of Stihl tools is the compensator. This part is located in the carburetor and allows you to continue operating the chainsaw, even if the air filter is dirty. The device does not lose power.

Reliability

The reliability and durability of Husqvarna and Shtil devices is excellent. High-tech durable materials from which chainsaws are made leave no doubt about their quality. But high build quality and convenience are achieved in different ways.

Stihl focuses on optimizing the performance of the device. For example, thanks to high automation, wear and repair of small parts is minimal. The second point is that the tension devices are placed on the outer surface of the chainsaw. This reduces the risk of damage to the main “internal organs”.

How to use a Stihl chainsaw

How to operate a Shtil chainsaw correctly? Below are the basic recommendations for using and maintaining the tool in working condition:

operation of such a powerful and dangerous tool as a chainsaw is carried out under several conditions: full familiarization with the instructions, completed running-in, knowledge of safety rules, absence of children and animals within the operating radius of the chainsaw; be sure to pour gasoline into the tank, and only then start the tool (many people are interested in the question about gasoline for the Shtil chainsaw - how to dilute it and is it necessary? AI-92 gasoline does not need to be diluted with anything, except for adding oil - if we are refueling a two-stroke engine) ; the correct ratio of fuel fluids is the key to high-quality and long-term operation of the engine without intense wear; the ratio recommended by the Stihl manufacturer is 1:40; for those who have forgotten how to dilute the oil for a Stihl chainsaw, there is information in the manual for the tool; no need to dilute gasoline with cheap oil, use original oils from Stihl and refuel your chainsaw strictly in accordance with the manual, preparing the mixture correctly; Stihl chainsaw chain oil must be of high quality, pay attention to branded lubricants; once a month or more often you can fill the gas tank with fresh mixture, but less than once a month is not recommended, since the longer the fuel and oil were stored, the lower its combustible parameters will be; saw as the manual prescribes - do not tilt the bar, do not try to saw a log or board, apply pressure, move the bar from top to bottom or parallel to the cutting axis; the device must be in good working order, intact, without blockages in the filters, with monitoring of the ignition system indicators and an adjusted carburetor; until the chainsaw has expired the warranty period, contact the service center to carry out complex technical work; the chain must be tensioned in the correct way, so that the tension is not too strong, and the chain should not sag or dangle, it is recommended to sharpen the chain on a special machine or in a workshop, and you can also not use a machine for sharpening, but get by with a special file and a holder.

Stihl chainsaw - chain lubrication and repair: video about diagnosing the lubrication system of the Shtil 180 chainsaw

Video

The most common questions for beginners using Stihl chainsaws are:

  • how to tension the chain on a Stihl chainsaw;
  • how to start a chainsaw correctly;
  • how to dilute gasoline with oil for a Shtil chainsaw
  • chainsaw calm and gasoline consumption rate.

The chain is tensioned by a side tensioner until it is smoothly held in a level position (without sagging or excessive overtightening). The gasoline consumption rate for a Shtil chainsaw is no more than 1 liter per hour for low- and medium-power models, and about 1.5 liters per hour for high-power models. The Shtil chainsaw should only be started when there is fuel in the tank, and the saw must be in good condition. How to dilute gasoline with oil is indicated in the instructions, the mixing rate is 1:40 (1 part oil and 40 parts gasoline).

How to make a choice

To make the right choice, you should focus on:

  • Workload;
  • Permissible noise level;
  • Availability of additional functions;
  • Ease of use (ergonomics);
  • Device power.

If you need a powerful device for complex tasks, both in the garden and in the professional field, then you need to choose a Husqvarna chainsaw. It will ensure trouble-free operation when cutting the largest trees. For example, models 353, 545 and 555.

If a chainsaw is required for minor work in the garden, then this is definitely Shtil. The chainsaw will last a long time and, if repairs are needed, it is easy to fix it yourself. Model number 180 is the ideal solution.

If you need a universal chainsaw, then it is better to choose Husqvarna products. Models 418 EL, 420 EL and 435 are suitable for such work.

In conclusion, it is worth saying that no matter what model the buyer chooses, he will be satisfied. After all, products from Stihl and Husqvarna are leaders in the production of units for the woodworking industry.

Chainsaw Shtil (STIHL) or Husqvarna (HUSQVARNA): which is better to choose for the garden plot

A chainsaw will make life easier for the owner of a garden plot. Using the tool, firewood is prepared, unnecessary bushes, twigs and trees are removed. When preparing to buy, you come across a large number of models and manufacturers. Let us consider in detail the characteristics of 2 popular brands: Shtil and Husqvarna. Let's try to determine which chainsaw - Shtil or Husqvarna - is better.

Pros and cons: Calm

Chainsaws from this German company are distinguished by their ergonomics and high-quality components. Let's highlight the advantages:

  • technical characteristics are of a high level;
  • trouble-free operation;
  • low vibration level;
  • presence of a soft start function;
  • low weight of the crankshaft and connecting rod;
  • quick set of working stroke;
  • durable and reliable parts and elements of the device;
  • functional cooling system.

These advantages apply to all products of the German company, but there are also disadvantages:

  • Shtil chainsaws have a high cost compared to other brands (this applies to both the equipment itself and spare parts for repairs);
  • the level of cost, in turn, affects the appearance of counterfeits and low-quality components from China (repairs using such parts reduce the service life of STIHL equipment and negatively affect consumer attitudes towards the company);
  • The noise level during operation is higher compared to Husqvarna saws.

Reliability comparison

Another parameter for evaluating equipment on which both manufacturers will agree. Both the Germans and the Swedes pay a lot of attention to increasing structural strength. But this is achieved in different ways, so technical nuances should be taken into account.

Which is better, Shtil or Husqvarna in terms of reliability? In the first case, the manufacturer relies on design optimization. For example, the presence of automation allows us to minimize the wear of small functional parts (in the same circuit), and moving the tension device to the side of the body reduces the risk of damage to the working parts. As for, she is successfully experimenting with new alloys in the design - in particular, the crankcase is made of unique alloys of aluminum and magnesium.

That is, there is no obvious leader in this indicator, and again one should start from specific needs, since the new structural alloy and automatic control systems have different effects on the operational process.

Pros and cons: Husqvarna

Tools from the Husqvarna brand are distinguished by their modern design and reliable operation. The most popular models among users are Husqvarna 135, 240 and 236.

Let's highlight the main advantages:

  • simplicity and reliability of design;
  • low level of vibration and noise, simplifying the operation of the tool;
  • quick-release engine cover (Husqvarna 135), which facilitates the process of replacing spark plugs;
  • accelerated starting and fast fuel supply (Husqvarna 240);
  • environmental friendliness - the volume of exhaust combustion products is minimal;
  • high power piston group;
  • ease of operation, maintenance and repair.

The disadvantages include:

  • expensive spare parts;

How are chainsaws different?

Tools from Stihl and Husqvarna are leaders in the production and distribution of gasoline-powered chain saws. It’s difficult to say clearly which chainsaw is better - Shtil or Husqvarna, because... Thanks to competition with each other, each manufacturer annually introduces new technologies and developments that facilitate and improve the operation of the tool.

Let's compare chainsaws according to some basic parameters that affect the performance of the units.

engine's type

STIHL and Husqvarna units are equipped with classic two-stroke engines, the disadvantage of which is the imperfection of the purge system of the fuel combustion chamber. 20% of gasoline escapes into the atmosphere through the exhaust pipe along with combustion products. The operation of a chainsaw pollutes the air and some of the fuel is lost.

Some Husqvarna models are improved and equipped with X-Torq technology, which ensures almost complete combustion of gasoline. The result is a reduction in the volume of harmful substances in the exhaust gases, high torque due to the complete combustion of gasoline.

If we compare the engine power, this parameter is 1.5 kW for the most popular models.

Chainsaw air filtration system

On popular models from the German company Stihl, a synthetic felt plate is installed that serves as an air filter. Air from the environment enters the plate through rectangular holes on the cylinder cover, so to ensure trouble-free operation of the unit, clean the filter after 1.5-2 hours of operation.

Husqvarna tools are equipped with a two-stage Air Injection air filtration system. First stage: air with dust and small sawdust is sucked into the flywheel. Second stage: air is supplied to the upper compartment of the cylinder through a spiral channel, thanks to the centrifugal force, sawdust flies to the side, and purified air enters the filter.

Anti-vibration system

Husqvarna saw models are equipped with metal springs that effectively absorb vibration and do not conduct it to the hands of the person operating the tool.

The STIHL tool is equipped with anti-vibration rubber buffers. When working with such a tool, fatigue manifests itself faster compared to a competitor.

Systems that make it easier to start a cold engine

To start a cold engine of the unit, it is necessary to pump gasoline into the chainsaw system from the fuel tank. On most STIHL saws, this requires pulling the starting cable 7-10 times, and Husqvarna equipment is equipped with a fuel pump. The pump facilitates the process of starting a cold engine.

Shtil equipment is equipped with the M-Tronic system, which distinguishes hot starting from cold starting. The system, thanks to electronic ignition, makes it easier to start the tool and regulates the volume of fuel supplied at the moment the unit starts.

What to choose

Manufacturers STIHL and Husqvarna are recognized world leaders and competitors. The chainsaw models presented and announced by each company are made from high-quality materials and components.

If we compare tools from Stihl and Husqvarna, identical in volume, the similarity is manifested only by the structure of the unit: motor, tire and chain. The remaining elements and parts differ in size, shape and materials used in manufacturing.

We also note that Husqvarna chainsaws, with the same cylinder volume, have lower power compared to their competitors. But low power is not always a disadvantage.

When asked: which chainsaw to choose - Shtil or Husqvarna, start from the needs, scope and nature of the work. To care for a small garden plot, it is not necessary to purchase a unit with the highest power and complete set. Be confident in the reliability and quality of the tool from each manufacturer.

Comparison of ease of use of the tool

The ergonomics of a modern tool is formed by two factors - design and functionality.

In terms of the first parameter, the models are almost identical. Manufacturers use a full range of tools to make the body and handles as comfortable, compact and grippy as possible.

In terms of functionality, everything will depend on the specific technological filling of the chainsaw. Which is better, “Calm” or “Husqvarna” in this regard? Each company has its own set of options that increase both ergonomics and safety of equipment use. For example, Husqvarna equips its saws with its own Air Injection filtration unit, increases operating comfort thanks to the LowVib anti-vibration system and simplifies the process of oil control due to an innovative oil supply regulator. As for Shtil products, they are provided with an ElastoStart starting device and a proprietary Ematic automatic lubricator.

In other words, preference will need to be given to one company or another based on specific requirements.
