Phone comparison - select the smartphones you want to compare

In this material we will try to answer all smartphone lovers the question: “Samsung” or “Sony” - which is better?” There are many companies in the current mobile device market, including those that have proven themselves well and those that are new.

Today we will focus on comparing devices from leading companies. We are talking about smartphones that are part of the Samsung Galaxy and Sony Xperia series. If you know about the main strengths and weaknesses of these models, then it will be easier to make a choice in favor of one of them, based on your own needs.

Company Features

When choosing between Sony or Samsung, it is important to understand the history and characteristics of each manufacturer. For example, Sony is a Japanese brand with a worldwide reputation and billions of dollars in revenue. The company employs more than 100,000 people, and the success of its activities is due to a responsible approach to each product produced.

Pros of phones:

  1. Modern design and thoughtful body. A special feature of the brand’s models are square corners. Thanks to them, using the device is more convenient.
  2. High quality sound. Sony phones are a priori better than many other manufacturers.
  3. Great cameras. The Japanese manufacturer installs camera modules in smartphones that do an excellent job even in the dark.
  4. High performance. This factor is due to the use of a more powerful processor.

The only disadvantages that stand out are the high price and a large selection of competitors.

Samsung smartphones are products of a well-known brand that has been operating since 1938. The company always creates something new and pleasantly surprises with many innovations. Pros:

  1. High quality display.
  2. Many sensors and additional functions.
  3. An excellent camera with a wide range of capabilities.

Samsung is better than its competitors in many respects, but, as with Sony, it is let down by its high price.

Keeping up with the times Samsung

Samsung Group was created a little earlier than Sony, in 1938. Initially, the company was not associated with technology at all, but was engaged in the supply of products.

Soon, the technological boom that captured China and all its companies reached Samsung.

And now a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics is a manufacturer of innovative technological devices, amazing users with the capabilities of devices released annually and setting the direction for the entire smartphone market.

Design

The Sony Xperia 10 Plus and Samsung Galaxy A50 devices have many differences in appearance. In particular, the Xperia 10 Plus is a rectangular oblong phone with a 6.5-inch screen and rectangular corners. Due to its greater height, it has a smaller width, 73 mm versus 74.7 for Samsung. At the same time, the South Korean smartphone has less weight - only 166 g versus 180 g for its competitor.

Ixperia is made using plastic and metal, while Samsung is made using plastic and glass. There are several color options to choose from. Sony has a better range. There are black, blue, gold and silver shades to choose from, while Samsung has a more limited choice - black, white and blue.

Of the mechanical buttons, Sony has power, camera launch and volume control keys, while Samsung does not have a shutter button.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

In general, the characteristics of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium are approximately equal. You won't notice much difference in performance, however, this model is an excellent multimedia center with an excellent speaker and sound quality, both in headphones and through the phone itself. In addition, in terms of design, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is more interesting than its competitor Galaxy S7 Edge. With what?

Firstly, the rear mirror part is many times more attractive than a regular plastic cover, and it looks more and more creative, or something. Full reflection makes the back of the smartphone a real mirror. In addition, it is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium that has completely right angles, which has already become a kind of hallmark of phones from Sony. In terms of using this phone, most reviews say that the body is more comfortable than that of its competitor, the Galaxy S7. In addition, the camera in this device allows you to take exceptionally high-quality photographs not only during the day, but also at night or in poor lighting, which other smart phones, even flagship models, cannot achieve.

Performance

When comparing which phone is better - Samsung or Sony, it is important to pay attention to the performance of the devices. The Xperia 10 Plus has one of the best Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processors with eight cores: four with a frequency of 1.8 GHz and the same number at 1.6 GHz. For comparison, the A50 has a CPU of the company’s own design - Exynos 7 Octa 9610. It has eight cores - four at 2.3 GHz and the same number at 1.7 GHz. The tests conducted show that Qualcomm is significantly better than its competitor. And if in normal mode the difference is almost unnoticeable, then when working with powerful graphics the differences are immediately visible.

Phone Compatibility

The current generation of smartwatches has a rather interesting feature: they are actually not as “smart” as they seem. The point is that they can reveal all their advantages only if you have a smartphone in your pocket. Therefore, the choice of such a watch, among other things, directly depends on which smartphones it supports.

And Sony Smartwatch 2 is already seen as a clear favorite, since it supports work with any smartphone running the Android 4.0 operating system and higher.

At launch, the Galaxy Gear will only support one device. The device that was announced along with this watch. We are, of course, talking about the new Galaxy Note 3 phablet. In a couple of months, however, Samsung promises to provide the watch with support for other devices, like the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, but this is a too limited list of support, compared to the almost limitless support for Sony Smartwatch 2.

Memory

In the fight between Sony and Samsung, it is important to take into account the memory parameters - RAM and built-in. The Xperia 10 Plus comes with 4GB RAM. In the case of Samsung, there are two solutions - 4 GB and 6 GB. The second option is better if you plan to use the phone to use multiple applications at the same time or install powerful games.

In terms of internal storage, the Xperia 10 Plus only comes with 64GB of storage, while the A50 comes with a choice of 64GB or 128GB. In both cases, the internal memory can be expanded by 512 GB, which is a big plus for those who like to store large amounts of information in a smartphone.

Bottom line

Many will think that Samsung is the more interesting and optimal model, which will easily surpass any competitor. If you're just looking for a workhorse that delivers maximum performance, then Samsung is the perfect solution for you. But in terms of design or ease of use in everyday life, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a real benchmark, an indicator of what an ideal flagship should be. Comfortable, powerful, stylish, and also stands out among other smartphones. In any case, the choice is still yours, but we want to note that both phones are simply ideal as flagship models that can be used in completely different ways.

Battery

To decide which smartphone is better to choose - Sony or Samsung, it is important to look at the battery life of the device. The A50 phone is better in terms of capacity, because it has a 4000 mAh battery. For comparison, the Xperia 10 Plus has a battery capacity of only 3000 mAh. At the same time, the charging speed is better than Sony, which takes 100% in 1 hour 35 minutes. Samsung fully charges in 1 hour 50 minutes. In both cases, a fast charge option is provided.

The battery life test showed that the Xperia 10 Plus “lives” with active web surfing and video viewing for an average of 10-11 hours. For comparison, Samsung has a better figure and is 12-15 hours. The average talk time on a single charge is 21 and 24 hours for the A50 and Xperia, respectively.

Display

The Smartwatch 2's screen size is approximately 96 percent of the Galaxy Gear's display area. However, the Gear has a sharper display, with an increased pixel density compared to the Smartwatch 2, which approaches the pixel density of modern smartphones.

Galaxy Gear uses a Super AMOLED display. Sony decided to use a Transreflective LCD screen in its device, which, according to the company, allows information to be read even in direct sunlight. Samsung says the Gear's screen is also quite readable in sunlight. It is not yet possible to choose a winner here: direct tests of both devices are needed.

Camera

When choosing which is better - Samsung Galaxy or Sony Xperia, many look at the quality of the camera. And here the difference is significant. In particular, the Xperia 10 Plus has a 10 MP module, and the Samsung has a 25 MP module. Sony has a 2X optical zoom and a better focal length (27 mm). The Samsung camera wins in terms of aperture (1.7) and number of lenses (there are three). As for video, both devices shoot at 30 frames per second. At the same time, in Sony the maximum resolution is better - up to 4 KVA 50, the maximum format is Full HD.

If we talk about the selfie camera, Sony and Samsung have an 8 and 25 MP module, respectively. Therefore, this parameter is better in the South Korean smartphone. The rest of the characteristics are almost identical.

Samsung smartphones: advantages

  1. Image quality is something that Samsung flagships have long and firmly established themselves with. Specifically, the Galaxy S7 Edge model received the highest quality image and the best matrix. It’s not surprising: Samsung does not spare their devices, improving them over the course of many years.
  2. Wide possibilities. The Galaxy S7 Edge received a huge number of sensors, water resistance, and a sophisticated processor, thanks to which the speed and smoothness of operation increased several times.
  3. The camera in the device is excellent. There is a time-lapse and slow motion mode, as well as video effects right during recording. Video recording in 4K resolution is the most important feature of the camera. To be honest, even Sony does not have such advanced technologies.

Voice control

Most likely, all future smart watches will have all the benefits of voice control. This is understandable, the watch’s screen is small, entering text by hand is inconvenient, so an excellent way out of this situation would be to have voice control support. And Samsung has already taken a step in this direction of development in its Galaxy Gear, offering a simplified version of the S Voice function (“Samsung’s” analogue of Siri for the iPhone).

Applications

Today it is difficult to imagine a mobile device without application support. Fortunately, both of today's new products have it, but smart watches from Samsung take the lead right at the start. The company announced that it has signed agreements with certain developers so that specially adapted versions of apps like Path, Evernote, Pocket and Glympse will appear on their watches.

With Sony, not everything is so clear yet, but applications for these watches will also definitely appear.
