Dishwasher error codes.
Alarm about malfunctions, self-diagnosis of electrical and hardware circuits - error codes for dishwashers. Over the past 6-7 years, manufacturers have been introducing dishwashers into the mass segment. A partial list can be found in the instruction manual. The table from the manual describes the encoding associated with minor and easily fixable problems - you can fix it yourself. The functionality of fixing a dishwasher with your own hands, according to the manufacturer, comes down to three areas:
- does not turn on - socket, insert the plug into the network
- does not take in water - water tap, inlet strainer
- does not drain - there is a foreign object or food debris in the filters, pump, the siphon under the sink or the check valve is clogged.
Point 3 can be easily accomplished only with PMMs from the BOSCH group; the rest do not provide easy access to the pump.
For other dishwasher signals, contact a Good Master. Information on videos and forums is always silent about the subtleties, and that’s the whole point. Error E15 Bosch dishwasher is a classic example.
Common problems and coding are described below.
Error codes in dishwashers, what they mean and how to fix them
For certain malfunctions, a code consisting of an alphabetic and numerical designation is displayed on the display. It indicates what exactly happened to the device.
- F10 Water overflow 1. The drain pump needs to be cleaned. To do this, turn off the machine using the main power switch and remove the plug from the socket. Remove the coarse and fine filters, and then empty the water from the chamber. Next, remove the colored clip on the right side of the bottom drain, turn the pump impeller and carefully remove any dirt. After this, you need to install all the elements back.
- F54 Water overflow 2. Turn off the water tap and contact the service center.
- F11 and F12. Failure to drain water. There may be several reasons for this problem. The first is in filters. If the filters are clogged, wash them and install them back. Sometimes it happens that they were installed incorrectly. This is also easy to fix. The second one is in the trash. Check the drain pump and hose. Clean them. Third - the hose is bent. You also need to make sure that the water tap is open.
- F40 Leak in the fill valve. Turn off the water tap and contact the service center. Don't try to solve the problem yourself.
- F52 Water level error. Make sure the drain hose is installed according to the instructions. If the problem is not resolved, contact the service center.
- F56 Circulation pump failure. This problem is also serious enough to be solved on our own. Entrust the work to specialists.

Possible breakdowns of a Bosch machine with error E23
Have you checked the surrounding communications, hose and filter for leaks, did not find a large amount of foam, but the F23 error message is still there? This means the signal indicates a malfunction. Some of the breakdowns are associated with leaks inside the housing, some with other components and systems. It will be difficult to figure it out on your own, but from the breakdowns described below you will be able to understand where the failure occurred before you submit a repair request. Here are the main breakdowns.
The drainage path is leaking - from 1000 rubles*
Inside the housing there are connections between the tank and the drain pipe, the pipe with the drain pump, and the pump with the drain hose. In addition, the drain pipe and hose may leak due to damage. You will notice water next to the machine and hear the pump pumping continuously. It is necessary to replace fasteners at joints or a leaking part, for example, a pipe or hose.
Damaged cuff - from RUB 1,500*
It ensures the door is tightly closed. Over time, rubber wears out or becomes mechanically damaged. You will notice the problem by drops of water from under the hatch door, but to do this you need to disassemble the machine.
If the hole is small, the cuff can be sealed with rubber cement. But it is safer to replace the rubber band with a new one.
Bearings are worn out - from RUB 3,000*
The bearings make it possible for the drum to rotate on the shaft, and the oil seal ensures their lubrication and tightness. Over time, the seal hardens and wears out, and water gets into the bearings. Due to corrosion they are destroyed.
Bearing wear can be detected by rusty smudges on the drum, noise and rumble when the washing machine is operating, especially during the spin cycle. In addition, the drum dangles a lot if you swing it by hand. Water from the bearings enters the sump, this leads to the activation of Aquastop and error E23.
The bearings and seal need to be replaced. In some Bosch washing machines, the tank is not collapsible, then you need to replace the entire tank of the washing machine.
Leaky tank - from RUB 3,200*
On older models there are prefabricated metal tanks, which over time begin to leak, Aquastop reacts to the leak, and error E23 is displayed. The tank will have to be changed. This is an expensive part, so it is usually cheaper to buy a new washing machine.
The housing protection system against leaks has failed - from RUB 1,800*
The float may get stuck in the “water in the pan” position, and the error will be permanent. Bosch can also issue this code due to poor contact in the leakage sensor circuit or a defective control module.
A stuck float can be returned to its place. If the sensor is faulty, it will have to be replaced. The contacts and control module are checked, then repaired or replaced.
How to fix a dishwasher yourself?
There are two typical problems with Bosch PMM models. They are associated with water. Users often complain about the appearance of the E15 code on the display. This indicates that the Aquastop protection has been triggered. But it's not always a matter of leakage. Follow these steps:
- Tilt the PMM body back and look into the pan.
- If there is indeed water accumulated there, drain it.
- Return the float switch to the "Off" position.
Sometimes the cause of operation is incorrect placement of the inlet hose gasket. It may have moved during installation. Therefore, make the connection according to the user manual.
Dishwasher won't turn on
Have you connected your machine to the network, pressed the "Power" button, but nothing happens? The lights on the panel do not light up and no sound signals are heard. Things to check:
- Network wire. Sometimes it bends if it is pressed against the body of the dishwasher during rearrangement. If you notice damage to the insulation, do not make homemade twists. This approach can lead to a fire. Replace the cord immediately.
- Fork. The presence of melts and burns indicates a breakdown. Install the correct element.
- Socket. To check its functionality, connect another device. Works? This means the socket is working.
It is worth checking the surge protector (capacitor). It is located near the engine. A visual inspection should alert you to swelling and burns. The part must be replaced. You can buy it inexpensively in an online store.
Leave problems with electronics and control unit to the specialist. Here you need accurate diagnostics, which is carried out with a multimeter.
Problems with water intake and drainage
In case of such a problem, simple carelessness should be ruled out. So, it's worth checking:
- Is the shut-off valve open? Perhaps it was accidentally blocked.
- Is the inlet hose level? If it is bent or pinched by a foreign object, water will not flow.
Aquastop sensor dysfunction
Experts recommend checking the pan before installing the Aquastop system. There should be no debris in it. Small debris can get on the float, causing it to rise.
Debris in the pan may cause the sensor to not work if a real leak occurs.
It should be noted that the Aquastop sensor is very sensitive. Error E23 can appear even if you move or install washing equipment carelessly.
It is also important to note that a short circuit will cause the sensor to malfunction. It can burn out the sensor. The wires that power the sensor may also break.
Useful tips
Recommendations from service technicians always guide users toward preventive maintenance of household appliances, rather than repairing them. Compliance with the manufacturer's instructions for operating the washing machine guarantees its trouble-free operation for 10 years. Some tips from professionals on how to protect the SMA from leaks:
- Do not use random washing agents for washing, use gels for automatic machines. This will protect the parts from exposure to chemicals.
- Cleaning the dispenser (powder tray) of deposits once every 3 months is a measure against the formation of blockages and a decrease in the quality of washing.
- A debris plug increases pressure in the hydraulic system, causing leaks in weak spots. Once every six months you need to check the cleanliness of the drain filter mesh.
- Inspect the hoses before the next wash. If there are animals in the apartment, this manipulation is doubly necessary.
- Abnormal voltage surges are eliminated by connecting the SMA through a stabilizer.
Experts advise starting the search for the cause of error E23 by checking the version about a foreign object under the float. If the machine body is tilted, the obstacle may roll out and the code will disappear from the display. The instructions require checking your clothing pockets before washing: small iron can pierce the pump body. The manufacturer's recommendations should not be neglected - this leads to the self-defense of the SMA.
Problems in the operation of the filler and drain lines
Problems with water supply arise for various reasons. In addition, not only the breakdowns mentioned above occur in the drain system.
Code | Description |
E3 | Over a certain period of time, water did not accumulate in the required volume. The problem may occur due to weak or no pressure in the water supply. The reasons may also be: a breakdown of the inlet valve, a clogged inlet or flow filter in front of the inlet hose, a malfunction of the water level sensor (hereinafter also referred to as the pressure switch). Sometimes the problem lies in the failure of the Aquastop system |
E5 | The pressure switch does not give the command to stop supplying water to the PMM tank, although it is already filled to capacity. The cause of the overflow may be a malfunction of the inlet valve or the absence of a command to stop the flow of fluid from the electronic control unit (hereinafter also referred to as the ECU) |
E8 or E3 | The PMM cannot draw water within the allotted time period. Because of this, further work is impossible - the machine will be stopped by the pump’s failure to operate in circulation mode. A tubular electric heater (hereinafter also referred to as a heating element) will also not heat water |
E16 | The malfunction is similar to that described for code E5. Only here the main reason for fluid overflow is clogged or damaged inlet valve. There is a possibility that the cause was excessive foam formation due to an overdose of detergent |
E17 | The inlet valve is not able to completely block the flow of water from the water supply. The reasons may be either a malfunction of the valve or too much water pressure. In the latter case, it must be partially closed with a shut-off valve. |
E21 or F | The pump has stopped working. At the same time, voltage and control signals from the ECU are supplied to it. Perhaps the cause was a foreign object caught in the impeller. Such consequences result from the lack of lubrication in the rotor bushing and its jamming. The error sometimes appears together with code E22 |
The reason for the appearance of the E17 inscription may be a water hammer in the water supply system
The listed breakdowns, along with blockages, occur in dishwashers quite often, leading to reset of running washing programs and spontaneous draining of liquid.
To determine the cause, check the intake tract:
- find out if there is pressure in the water supply;
- remove the inlet flow filter and clean it if it is clogged;
- diagnose the intake valve to ensure its performance;
- Check for debris in the pressure switch tube and remove it, if any.
Error code E3 in a Bosch dishwasher, appearing along with the E8 combination
In the drainage system, you need to check whether the pump is clogged. Sometimes rotor lubrication helps restore its functionality. If the impeller rotates freely, but there is a break in the pump windings (checked with a multimeter), it will have to be replaced.
Causes of problems
After you have disassembled the dishwasher, you need to collect the leaking water using a rag in a bucket. Then you can begin inspecting the device. If you notice that the hose holding the pump and pipes has fallen off, it is necessary to loosen the fixing clamp. Now you can inspect the hose from its inside. A common reason for a hose to jump off is when the pressure level reaches a critical level. The factor causing its appearance is a blockage inside the hose or in the area where it connects to the pipes.
Moreover, blockages can be completely different: scale, residues of mineral salts, chemical compounds inside the machine. Over time, the salt here hardens, forming a hard barrier. The danger of this problem lies in the possible failure of the entire drainage. Therefore, it is better to follow preventive measures. To do this, you need to add specialized water softeners when starting the machine. If this is not done, the breakdown may become large-scale, which cannot be solved on your own. It is likely that after this you will have to buy a new unit.

Dishwashers running on the EOS platform with DEA 601/602/700 boards can be equipped with a variety of user interfaces (control panels): with 4 or 6 LEDs (indicators) for washing programs, digital (with LCD display). If the PMM has only LEDs, the error code is indicated by blinking a certain set of indicators; on digital interfaces, the error code is displayed on the display, but the LED indication remains.
On earlier models with a display, the error code was shown with an "A" prefix (for example, A3), on more recent EOS models it was shown with an "F" prefix (for example, "F03"). On a PMM with a digital interface, the error is displayed by blinking numbers without a prefix: for example, with an error “05”, the number “5” will blink.
On the EOS platform, only 4 left indicators are used, and strictly defined ones: led1 - “washing”, led2 - “drying”, led3 - “end”, led4 - “delayed start”.
On interfaces with LEDs, a binary codification of the error number is used: four indicators were assigned a conditional number to the power of two - 1, 2, 4, 8 (see photo below) - and the error code (more precisely, number) was determined as the sum of the numbers of flashing indicators; for example, when LEDs 1, 2 and 4 are on, error 11 (1+2+8) is received. Numbering starts from the leftmost LED.
Causes of leakage
This error on a Bosch washing machine is interpreted in almost the same way as error F23. It notifies the owner of the equipment that the sensor of the system providing protection against leaks has been activated. This sensor is located in the pan of the machine.
The operating principle of the Aquastop sensor is quite simple. There is a special segment in the washer tray that is connected to a float. When water enters the pan, the float begins to rise. As a result, the sensor is triggered, and then error code E23 appears on the machine display.
There are a number of reasons why a leak can occur:
- A hole appeared in the tank of the car;
- A crack has formed in the drain pipe;
- Inlet hose leaking. Perhaps this hose was not screwed on properly;
- Powder receiver leaking. Either it is simply not inserted;
Why does it occur
Error E23, like any other, occurs suddenly. The machine stops and this can cause real panic in some users. The only universal solution that comes to mind is to turn the dishwasher on and off. This really helps, the error disappears, but after a few minutes it appears again. Why does error E23 occur? Experienced craftsmen identify three main reasons.
- Inability to drain waste water with a machine. This is the main reason and should be considered first.
- Water gets into the pan and, as a result, the Aquastop system activates. This is an additional reason, which on most models is identified by the self-diagnosis system as error E14 in a Bosch dishwasher.
It happens that a Bosch machine shows errors E14, E18, E23 in turn after each reboot of the unit. This directly indicates the presence of water in its pan.
- The dishwasher control board is faulty. This is a universal reason, because due to a faulty board, the diagnostic system also fails and can show any error contained in the database.
It is very difficult to diagnose electronic malfunctions at home. We will not describe these malfunctions, but we will advise you to immediately contact an authorized Bosch service center if they are detected.
Water in the pan
It is not difficult to determine the presence of water in the tray of a Bosch dishwasher. You need to disconnect the equipment from all communications, then pull it out to a free place, having first laid something on the floor under the body, then tilt it on its right side. A strong roll to one side will cause water to leak from the pan, if of course there is any there.
