DIY Electrolux dishwasher repair

No matter how popular the equipment manufactured under the Electrolux brand is, it is not immune from breakdowns. An experienced home craftsman can perform simple repairs on Electrolux dishwashers on his own.

To cope with this task, you will have to study the features of the design and operation of dishwashing equipment, as well as become familiar with the most common breakdowns. It is these issues that our article is devoted to - here we have given the most popular types of faults, as well as recommendations for eliminating them.

Let's look at the main machine breakdowns

The majority of dishwashers supplied to the Russian market are produced in Poland and account for about 90%. The quality of their components and assembly can be compared with similar units from German and Swedish companies, but, as they say, you don’t have to choose. Most experts highlight the following advantages of household appliances manufactured by Electrolux:

  • all components are made exclusively from high-quality raw materials;
  • the development of circulation pumps was approached really wisely, they were designed with a high working life;
  • The manufacturer is meticulous about small details, such as wires, clamps, terminals, rubber bands and filters, which in turn increased the period of trouble-free operation of the dishwasher.

No particularly critical disadvantages were found when using the dishwasher; they, like everyone else, are characterized by typical breakdowns, from which it is quite difficult to protect yourself. Let's list them below:

  • clogging of drain and filler pipes;
  • failures in the water collection program;
  • problems with the quality of dishwashing;
  • The heating element (heating element) does not heat the water sufficiently.

Causes of Electrolux dishwasher breakdowns

Malfunctions of an Electrolux brand dishwasher are rarely caused by factory defects, although such a possibility cannot be discarded. But more often, failures are caused by the users themselves (violation of installation and operation rules) and independent factors, force majeure.

Let's look at the common reasons why these dishwashers fail:

  • The culprits that the PMM is broken may be blockages in the drain or filler tract .
  • The dishwasher does not work or does not heat water due to a power surge .
  • Failures can occur due to weak electrics . Poor wiring is a problem with dishwashers of this brand. Moreover, everything may be fine at the factory, but the contacts and wires burn out during operation of the machine.
  • Problems with the efficiency of the washing process may be associated with improper installation , user intervention (children kinked the hose), violation of operating rules (washing too dirty dishes, using unprofessional household chemicals), etc.

To understand what a breakdown means, Electrolux dishwashers have a modern self-diagnosis system for breakdowns. Having found a problem, the machine itself signals it to the user by displaying error codes on the screen.

Having identified the problem and understood what caused it, you can begin repairing it yourself or with the help of a specialist.

Repair by specialists

Most Electrolux dishwasher malfunctions can be easily fixed at home. But in case of complex breakdowns, professional help will be needed. Today, repairing Electrolux dishwashers at home is an affordable service that every user can afford.

DIY dishwasher diagnostics

Before you start repairing the dishwasher yourself, you need to find the problem. And the machine itself can help with this, because modern devices have a special algorithm that, when a breakdown occurs, performs self-diagnosis and presents the fault to the user in the form of a digital code.

This code will be displayed on the display of the household appliance, and on more outdated models the error is displayed in the specific activation of LED indicators. Well-known manufacturers of household appliances, such as Zanussi and Electrolux, have made the self-diagnosis process automatic - the dishwasher independently determines the malfunction and displays the code. For models from other companies, failure detection begins after entering a certain key combination. Information about the correct sequence can be found in the operating instructions.

How to repair a dishwasher with your own hands?

If you have decided where to look for a breakdown, then our recommendations will help you deal with it. The first thing to do when an error occurs on the scoreboard is to restart the program. This will help eliminate system failure. The dishwasher control may malfunction after a sudden power outage.

  • Unplug the machine;
  • Wait 15 minutes;
  • Turn on the equipment.

If the code disappears, it may be due to a system failure. Obvious signs of breakdown require immediate repair.

Fill and drain system problems

The main malfunctions of the tracts occur due to blockages. The inlet filter, like the hose, becomes clogged with debris from the water supply. This is small debris, rust, scale. The filter is equipped with a fine mesh that protects the dishwasher system from debris. To clean the tract:

  • Close the inlet valve.
  • Disconnect the inlet hose from the housing. Water may spill out of it, so have a container or rag ready.
  • Behind it is a filter. Remove it with pliers.
  • Rinse the parts with warm water; if the mesh is heavily soiled, soak the mesh in a solution of citric acid.

Experts recommend installing a flow filter in front of the hose. It will cleanse the water of salts and make it “softer”.

Behind the filter there is a solenoid valve. When liquid is supplied, it opens the membranes and fills the tank. Voltage drops in the network lead to burnout of the valve coils, as a result of which they stop receiving module commands. If the coils burn out, the entire valve is replaced.

Problems with water supply can be caused by the Aquastop hose. During a leak, its sponge becomes saturated with liquid and blocks the passage. Install a new hose.

The drain path becomes clogged much more often. Poor removal of food residues from the surface of the dishes, infrequent cleaning of the drain leads to blockage, and then to pump malfunction. Damage can be prevented by following simple rules:

  • Clean dishes thoroughly before loading.
  • Remove dirt from the chamber at least once a week, or better yet, after each wash.
  • Use high-quality powders and washing tablets.

How to restore the drain yourself:

  • Open the bunker;
  • Remove the dish trays;
  • Unscrew the filter at the bottom and remove the mesh;
  • Clean the parts from debris;
  • Liquid accumulates in the mounting hole - remove it with a sponge;
  • Remove the protective cover;
  • Wear gloves and clear any blockage from the pump impeller. Be careful, fragments of broken dishes can block the operation of the impeller.

Repair of Electrolux dishwashers: typical breakdowns and restoration

Checking the dishwasher for malfunctions or in the event of an accident that has already occurred will be much faster if the owner is able to decipher fault codes.

Electrolux dishwashers provide display of error codes with values i20, i30 and so on. This information is relevant not only for devices with a screen, but also for all models of this company.

In cases where the screen is not provided by the design, an error can usually be recognized by the blinking of the end indicator. For such situations, there is a special encryption for blinking and symbols.

Errors with water heating

Error i60 or the indicator blinks six times. This means that a violation has occurred in the heating system. Electrolux dishwasher does not heat water at all or overheats.

There may be several reasons:

  1. heating elements (heating elements) burned out,
  2. damage in electrical wiring,
  3. malfunction of the temperature sensor (thermostat),
  4. lack of water to the required level, malfunction of the level sensor,
  5. malfunctions in the circulation pump or control board.

Remedy:

  • The serviceability of heaters and electrical wiring (insulation resistance, contacts) is checked. If necessary, heating elements are replaced,
  • The thermostat is diagnosed,
  • the functionality of the circulation pump is checked,
  • the state of the control circuit is assessed.

To identify the listed faults and eliminate them, it is better to involve a specialist. Incompetent intervention in these systems can only harm the Electrolux dishwasher.

Error i70 or the indicator blinks seven times. Error in the heating control system. Most often this happens due to a malfunction of the heating element thermistor. The cause may be a short circuit in the electrical circuit or damage to the thermistor itself. It is better to carry out diagnostics and repairs at a service center.

Intake and drainage errors

These are the most common errors. They can occur in any Electrolux dishwashers. Most often they arise for two reasons: if, when installing the machine, it was incorrectly connected to the water supply or sewerage system or the operating rules were violated.

Error i30 or the indicator blinks three times. This code notifies you when a leak occurs. Often this breakdown occurs when water gets into the pan. At the same time, the Aqua-stop float system is activated and the water supply shutoff valve is activated. Water may get into the tray if the seal of the Electrolux dishwasher is broken.

Recommendations for elimination:

  • drain the water from the pan,
  • Check the drain pump for leaks. If this is the reason, then you should call a technician to replace it,
  • check the storage tank, hoses and connections, seals and cuffs, as well as doors, tray, pipes and hopper for leaks,
  • Set the float to the “water” position and start the dishwasher.

Error iF0 or indicator blinking 14 times. This means that the filling mode exceeds the set time.

Causes:

  1. there was a displacement of the dishes in the loading chamber, which led to a lack of water,
  2. the intake filter is clogged,
  3. too much foam has formed from the detergent,
  4. malfunction of the pressure switch or its circuit.

Solutions:

  • stop the dishwasher and organize the dishes in the loading chamber,
  • remove and clean the filler filter,
  • replace detergent with less intensive foam formation,
  • Check the pressure switch and its electrical circuit.

Diagnostics of the Electrolux dishwasher

When you turn on the start button, the indication lights up, but there is no program selection. This situation may arise, for example, due to a power surge during operation, or when the leakage protection system is triggered.

The control panel is located at the end of the door and is typical for most Electrolux models. As you can see in the photo below, the two buttons are connected by a line labeled Cancel. If you press them simultaneously and hold for 3-5 seconds, the frozen program will be reset. Which is what happened in this case.

The washing modes began to be displayed, but when selecting any of them, the process did not start. First of all, you need to check the water supply.

Since in our case the dishwasher uses an inlet hose with an active “Aquastop” system, which is located at the point of connection to the water supply, then for correct diagnosis it is necessary to dismantle it.

I work in the household appliance repair industry. Extensive experience in restoring washing machines and dishwashers.

Place the bucket under the faucet and open the valve. If the water comes out, then the problem is in the dishwasher.

Reasons for this failure:

  • AquaStop system is faulty;
  • the electronic control module is damaged;
  • The leakage sensor located at the bottom does not work.

To perform diagnostics, you need to gain access to the actuators, which are located under the washing chamber.

  1. We disconnect from sewerage, water supply and electricity.
  2. We pull out the PMM - dishwasher.

“>PMM, if it is built-in.

  • Remove the strip located under the door.
  • We dismantle the side panels by first unscrewing the screws.
  • We remove the trays.
  • We take out the filter and stick a rag in its place. This will prevent water from leaking out.
  • Turn it upside down.
  • Pull out the height adjustment device for the third leg.
  • Remove the plastic bottom.
  • After this, all elements of the PMM - dishwasher - will be available.

    “>PMM. First of all, let's check the functionality of the microswitch of the leakage protection system.

    To do this, remove the block and call the Multimeter

    (from the English multimeter), tester

    (from the English test - test),

    avometer

    (from ampere-volt-ohmmeter) is a combined electrical measuring device that combines several functions.

    The minimum set includes the functions of a voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter. Sometimes a multimeter is made in the form of a clamp meter. There are digital and analog multimeters.

    ">tester. In normal condition, the contact should be short-circuited, and when the float is raised, it should be open. In this case, there was a gap in both states. To check, the wires were connected past the microphone.

    Then the machine was put into working position, connected and launched one of the selected programs. The water came in and the wash cycle began. Thus the malfunction was identified. This means that the electronic module and the leakage protection system located on the hose are working properly.

    Errors caused by blockages

    Error i10 or the indicator flashes once with a five-second delay. The code that appears on the screen indicates that the fence mode has been violated. If the code message does not disappear within one minute, this means that one of the following failures may occur:

  • The water supply tap is closed or the pressure is low,
  • problems with the intake hose. It may be contaminated with debris, pinched or incorrectly connected,
  • the cleaning filter or electric valve of the network water is clogged.

Filler and drain pipes

Drain and fill pipes can become clogged not only in Electrolux dishwashers; this is a common problem with these units. The speed at which they will clog depends on the quality of the water, the content of minerals and metals in the water. This is due to the fact that they settle on the walls, after which they simply clog them.

If you have fairly hard water, you need to monitor your dishwasher more carefully and clean the parts described above more often. How exactly to do this?

  • turn off the water using a tee tap;
  • disconnect the inlet hose along with the flow filter on both sides from the tee tap and the dishwasher;
  • remove the small flow filter from the dishwasher body (it is located at the beginning of the filler path, where the inlet hose is installed);
  • clean and then rinse the hose together with the filters with running water;
  • assemble the device.

It is worth noting that when installing a dishwasher, some do not install a flow filter directly between the tee tap and the hose. In this situation, only one filter will become clogged, the one installed at the beginning of the filler pipe.

Much more often, the pipes and hoses of the drain track and garbage filters become clogged. Experts recommend that users perform periodic inspections of these spare parts, at least once every two months. In the case when the dishwasher is used intensively, namely several times a day, the check must be carried out once every 1-1.5 months. In order to protect nodes from clogging, you must adhere to the following simple rules:

  • Before placing dishes inside the unit, remove large food deposits using a paper towel.
  • Use only high-quality detergents, or make them yourself.
  • Check the container in which the regenerating salts are located; it should never reach a critical level.
  • After each washing process, perform a visual inspection of the debris filters and, if necessary, clean them.

Common PMM malfunctions

It’s unlikely that anyone will want to just delve into complex technology. Disassembling a Bosch, Candy, Siemens dishwasher may be necessary to find and fix the problem. To make it easier for you to navigate, let's consider typical problems:

  1. Waste water is not drained. A common cause is clogging with food debris from dishes and small debris. First, the filter gets clogged, then the debris gets into the drain pump. This may cause damage. To check the parts, you need to remove the bottom of the PMM.
  2. No pressure. You need to check the pressure in the tap. The installation may not have been completed correctly.
  3. Water does not fill. The problem may be in the drainage system. We need to check everything step by step.
  4. The machine is noisy or humming. Shards from broken dishes could get into the drain, or the bearings of the pump or motor could wear out.
  5. Leak. The hose connections were broken, the hopper was damaged, and the Aquastop was broken. The equipment is subject to inspection.

Before starting disassembly, the machine must be properly prepared.

Checking the drain pump

You can clean the drain pump from dirt with your own hands. The location of the drain pump is also shown in the photo in the user manual.

You need to remove all the pump mounts and clean it with a thin object. After cleaning, check the movement of the pump blades. They should rotate easily. The photo shows that the pump is clogged with food debris and lime deposits.

All that remains is to fix the drain pump in place and check the operation of the dishwasher.

Dishwasher pressure switch failure

The pressure switch is a part of the dishwasher that controls water pressure. It happens that food gets into it, as a result of which the device gives incorrect readings. This causes problems:

  • poor quality dishwashing;
  • the water will run non-stop, which can lead to a flood.

On the forums, repair experts advise removing the pressure switch for inspection. Using pliers, remove the tube clamp of the part, carefully remove the entire part. The photo shows a pressure switch for an Electrolux dishwasher.

To check whether the device is working, you need to blow into the pressure switch tube. If you hear a click, the part is working properly. You can’t hear a click - the pressure switch on the Electrolux dishwasher needs repair.

You can watch detailed instructions for removing and checking the pressure switch yourself in the video.

In cases of breakdown of electronic parts, it is better to contact specialists who will repair Electrolux dishwashers at home.

To avoid having to send your Electrolux dishwasher in for repair, you should take proper care of the device.

The drain or fill path is clogged

This breakdown can be classified as systemic, since it is typical not only for Electrolux machines.

The degree to which pipes, hoses and filters are filled with debris depends on the quality of the water supplied from the water supply. The worse the water, the faster blockages occur. If there are too many minerals in your water supply, they will quickly build up on the inside of the filter, causing it to suddenly clog.

In this case, repairing the car will not be difficult, even if you decide to do it yourself.

Important! To avoid a recurrence of this breakdown, do not forget to remove the filter from time to time and clean it from deposits.

If the water is too hard, treat the machine as carefully as possible: check all elements of the filling system - filters, pipes and hose. You need to do it like this:

  • shut off the flow of water into the system by closing the tee valve;
  • unscrew the water intake hose together with the filter* from the tee tap and from the PMM body;
  • take out a small flow filter (located at the point where the hose is twisted with the equipment body);

  • rinse both filters and the hose (if it is difficult to rinse, clean with a special brush) and install back.

*Often users, along with installing a dishwasher, provide a small flow-through filter located on the tap side. If it is installed, then blockages will only occur in the filter attached to the PMM housing.

Important! If you use various water softeners, then in this case they are ineffective, since they protect exclusively internal parts and have nothing to do with filters and hoses.

If we talk about the garbage filter, as well as the hose and drain pipe, their blockages are more frequent. Repairers advise cleaning at least twice a month, and if the machine is used intensively, every 4 weeks. Prevention, which is described in detail in the instructions for your PMM model, will help prevent blockages.

Problems with the heating element

If you notice that the water in the dishwasher is not heating up enough, then most likely there is a problem with the heating element, or with the temperature sensor or other control modules. Electrolux dishwashers are quite sensitive to voltage fluctuations, as well as to oversaturation. What could this lead to?

In the best case, you will get away with a blown fuse; in the worst case, several triacs on the control board may burn out. After this, the control module simply will not be able to send signals to the heating element, or will do so with a delay or perform it incorrectly. Repairing a malfunction is quite a labor-intensive and expensive task. You need to:

  • disassemble the dishwasher in half in order to get to the heater;
  • check the integrity of the wires going to the heating element and measure the resistance using a multimeter;
  • Check the parts of the control module, if a malfunction is detected, replace with a new one.

We would like to note that in order to protect household appliances and other devices from voltage surges, you can use a voltage stabilizer, which is purchased separately.

If you do not understand this topic, the best solution would be to call a specialist who will accurately diagnose the breakdown and fix it as soon as possible.

If the ELECTROLUX dishwasher does not turn on and does not work, either a lack of voltage in the network or a burnt-out control unit may be to blame. In the first case, it is enough to wait until electricity is supplied to your home, in the second, you will have to spend a lot of money on replacing the unit.

The main causes of malfunctions include:

  • lack of electricity;
  • broken socket or cord;
  • broken surge protector;
  • problems with the control unit;
  • damage to the wiring in the body of the ELECTROLUX dishwasher;
  • faulty heating element.

It is not always worth calling a specialist. First, you need to make sure that the help of a specialist is generally necessary.

The dishwasher does not complete the wash program

A fairly common occurrence is that during a washing program it simply freezes. Most often, to solve the problem, you need to reboot the dishwasher; to put it simply, you need to turn off the device for just a couple of minutes, and then return the power supply to it again.

If this problem repeats with all dishwashing programs, you must call a specialist who will carefully check everything and, if a defect or defect is found, replace the damaged part.

Note! On some Electrolux dishwasher models, replacing the control module costs a lot of money. In such a situation, it will be easier for you to buy a new dishwasher than to replace a faulty control module.

However, do not be upset, this problem is most often associated with an error in the operation of the following sensors, namely: pressure switch, aqua sensor and others. Sometimes the electrical network is involved in the failure of the entire group of sensors.

In this article we looked at how to repair Electrolux dishwashers with your own hands. However, remember, if you don’t know anything about technology, the best solution would be to turn to specialists who will carry out all the repairs themselves, and you won’t have to waste your nerves and money on unjustified actions.

Decoding symbols for Electrolux dishwasher breakdowns

It’s difficult to figure it out on your own, which is why the details are not provided:

  • under point 1. Error in pressure switch readings, software damage. These factors usually add up. A set of measures is expected. The valve is not working.
  • according to point 2. Failure of the level sensor, clogging, leakage. The culprit may be electronic board errors. You need to call a repairman to your home to find out the cause.
  • according to point 3. The problem is in the pressure switch, there may be a software failure. If the water does not come out of the sink, then the pump is clogged. Also check for leaks in the pan along the hydraulic circuit. Check the valve. It stands at the entrance to the fan pipe to check for blockages.
  • according to point 4. Electronic module, heater, less often temperature sensor.
  • according to point 5. We change the electronics or re-solder with programming.

List of PMM errors. In practice they are rare. The information received slightly reduces the time and that’s all. A specific spare part for replacement according to the description cannot be identified.

Only service specialists can handle it flawlessly! He decides to replace the nodes in order to restore overall performance. Expensive components cannot be exchanged or returned. Therefore, entrust the procedure to a service specialist.

The modern model range is demanding in terms of quality and quantity of detergent powder and tablets. Erroneous program failures and destruction of rubber hoses due to the fault of the detergent are possible.

Repairing an Electrolux dishwasher is not an easy task.

Typical failures

According to statistics, 90% of cars under the Electrolux brand that are sold in Russia are manufactured in factories in Poland. Their quality is slightly worse than their counterparts from Germany, but the pricing policy is not bad either. Experts from service centers, especially for Russian consumers, note the following advantages:

  • reliability and quality of machine body;
  • well-equipped circulation pumps with a long working life;
  • During assembly, the main attention is paid to small parts - wiring terminals, rubber seals, filter elements, connecting wires and clamps, on which the trouble-free operation of the equipment primarily depends.

No particularly obvious shortcomings or weaknesses were found, but, like other brands, there are some typical breakdowns and malfunctions from which no one is immune:

  • hoses and pipes of water supply and drainage systems often become clogged;
  • The water does not heat up according to the mode;
  • Sometimes problems may arise with the execution of the specified dishwashing programs.

In order not to frequently repair your dishwasher, you must always pay attention to the condition of the equipment and adhere to the recommendations set out in the instructions.

The most common dishwasher malfunctions and how to fix them yourself

  1. does not turn on;
  2. The dishwashing process does not start;
  3. water does not fill;
  4. does not take detergent;
  5. water overflows (too much is collected);
  6. problems with water heating;
  7. problems with drainage after finishing work;
  8. the body receives an electric shock;
  9. the machine stops during operation;
  10. extraneous noise;
  11. drying does not work;
  12. water is leaking.

If the machine is plugged in, but does not start working after pressing the start button, you need to check for electricity. Then, if there are no electrical problems, check to see if the outlet is working. You can also use a multimeter to check the voltage in the network.

You need to make sure that there is pressure ; perhaps the problem is insufficient water supply.

Another reason why the dishwasher refuses to turn on may be a poorly closed door or clogged filters. Cleaning them yourself is easy.

First of all, unplug the machine . Next, remove the metal mesh on which the dishes are placed.

filters - one for coarse cleaning with large cells, and the second with smaller cells that traps small debris. It is this second part that gets clogged most often, as fat accumulates in it. This prevents not only cleaning, but also the normal passage of water, which can ultimately lead to leaks.

The dishwasher is turned on, but does not wash dishes . The reason may be a clogged filter. It is necessary to drain the water, turn off the machine and clean the filter.

The second possible reason is clogged injectors . They are also quite easy to clean yourself.

The circulation pump is broken . You can replace the pump yourself (video below).

If water does not flow , you need to check whether the water supply tap is open and whether there is a blockage in the inlet hose. In addition, the cause may be a kinked inlet hose . It may be pinched. All these reasons can be eliminated. If the problem remains after this, then most likely it is an electronic failure. It is better to entrust such repairs to a specialist.

the machine does not take detergent is low water pressure or dirty nozzles. Check the pressure. Clean the injectors.

Detergent is not flushed out of the reservoir.

The reason for this may be an incorrectly selected washing mode, valve failure, clogged hoses or tubes, or algorithm failure.

Accordingly, you need to change the mode. Clean the hoses.

If the problem is in the valve, then it needs to be replaced.

If the algorithm fails, turn off the machine, after a while you can start it again. If this does not help, repair is necessary.

When the water overflows , the water level sensor is most likely broken. It needs to be replaced.

If you have problems heating the water (it either overheats or does not heat up, or the heating is too slow), then the heating sensor may be broken . In addition, the heating element may break. Replace the heating element or sensor.

When the water does not drain after washing, the pump may be broken or the drain hose may be clogged. Clean the hose. A broken pump cannot be repaired, but it can be replaced.

If the housing produces an electric current, then the heating element is definitely faulty. It cannot be repaired, but can be replaced.

The dishwasher stopping during operation can be caused by an electronics failure, motor overload, overfilling of the safety pan, or clogged filters.

Extraneous noise - failure of the pump or motor bearings.

The machine does not dry dishes. Most likely the fan is broken. Replacement required.

Leak . Possible causes: the door seals are damaged, causing it to not close tightly.

seal is damaged .

The hose clamps are not tightened enough, the seals at the connection points are missing or damaged. The water tank is damaged. The seals can be tightened, but the water tank will most likely have to be replaced, since it cannot be repaired.

Despite the fact that breakdowns of all dishwashers are often standard, each brand has its own, most common problems. Dishwasher error codes tell you what exactly is the cause of the breakdown. After this, it becomes clear what repairs are needed.

Bosch dishwashers typical faults

  1. Bosch dishwasher does not turn on;
  2. The dishwasher does not fill with water;
  3. The wash cycle does not start or the machine freezes;
  4. The dishwasher does not drain water.

You can determine the type of error using the code that appears on the display.

Possible reasons if the Bosch dishwasher does not turn on:

  • the socket is faulty, there is no electricity, the power cord is damaged;
  • the on/off button does not work;
  • the control unit is faulty;
  • The power filter has burnt out.
  • Bosch dishwasher does not fill with water:
  • “Aquastop” worked;
  • the door is not tightly closed;
  • the fill valve is damaged;
  • filters are clogged;
  • control unit is broken.

If the aqua-stop works, then the Bosch dishwasher needs to be disconnected from the network. The reason may be that the pan is overfilled or the water sensor is “stuck”. You need to carefully tilt the machine so that the water pours out of the pan.

Dishwashers "Electrolux" typical faults

  • does not fill or drain water;
  • Perhaps the water supply tap is closed, the drain hose is clogged or pinched, the filters are clogged, or the aqua-stop has worked.
  • electronics failure

Ariston dishwashers - typical faults

  • water does not fill or drain - the filters, hoses for inlet or drainage of water are clogged, the pump is faulty.
  • The water does not heat up - most likely the heating element is faulty.
  • leaks - you need to check the hoses and seals on the door.

Prevention

Most dishwasher malfunctions can be fixed on your own, as already described above. But in order for the dishwasher to last a long time, not break down and not require repairs, it is recommended to regularly carry out preventive maintenance:

  1. Be sure to clean any remaining food from the dishes before loading;
  2. wash only those dishes that are dishwasher safe;
  3. The dishes should not come into contact with the sprayer;
  4. Use only high-quality detergent intended for dishwasher;
  5. Clean the strainer every week;
  6. Check to see if the injectors and filters are dirty and clean them regularly.

Tracts of drain and fill systems

In all technology based on working with water, these systems are the first to become clogged. The water quality is to blame here, because in different regions it not only differs in hardness, but also contains numerous impurities of various minerals.

The first blow is taken by the filter installed at the entrance to the machine: all harmful impurities settle on its walls, so you have to constantly clean it of water stone. No chemical cleaning agents will help you - they only clean the inside of the hoses and pipes of the system.

The algorithm for cleaning the filter element is simple and can be done with your own hands:

  • shut off the water supply to the machine;
  • disconnect the inlet hose with built-in flow filter from the tap and the entrance to the dishwasher;
  • remove the strainer from the housing at the entrance to the machine;
  • rinse the hose and both filters, then put everything back in place.

Many users do not install an additional filter at the inlet of the drain hose, but in vain - this halves the load on the filter mesh element installed on the machine.

Prevention is the basis for the cleanliness of these elements; such measures for the Electrolux machine are popularly described in the attached operating instructions, but we will recall the main points:

  • Remove food residues from dishes before placing them in baskets.
  • Add detergents strictly according to the norm, only high-quality, proven ones, so that their undissolved sediments do not clog the filters.
  • Make sure you have enough regenerating salt at all times.
  • After each dishwashing, check both filters at the bottom of the machine tank and clean them of impurities.

For preventative cleaning of the drain system, purchase a patented product, pour it into the bottom of the tank and run the wash cycle on idle without adding detergents.

Overview of the most common faults

In general, dishwashers from the Swedish brand are deservedly considered to be of high quality. Typically, Polish-assembled products are cheaper and break down more often. However, it is noted that Electrolux machines are distinguished by a durable body and a reliable circulation pump. Parts such as filters, gaskets, wiring terminals and other little things are traditionally made at a high level and rarely cause trouble.

Typical breakdowns of this equipment usually include the following malfunctions:

  • clogging of drainage and water supply elements;
  • improper heating of water during the specified wash cycle;
  • failure when executing the selected program, etc.

Very often, the causes of such malfunctions are violations of recommendations for using the device. If problems begin soon after the start of operation or occur too often, you need to check for such violations.

In addition, it doesn’t hurt to make sure that the dishwasher is installed correctly and connected to the sewer and water supply without any problems. The intricacies of installing and connecting a dishwasher are discussed in our other article.

Reason #1 - clogged drain/water supply

Poor quality of tap water is a common problem in many regions. Increased hardness, the presence of mineral inclusions and contaminants have a sad effect on the condition of household appliances, and dishwashers are no exception. For this reason, a filter must be installed before water enters the device.

It needs to be regularly washed, cleaned, and replaced in a timely manner. If damage has developed in it over time, you should not ignore it; you must immediately install a new filter. Otherwise, all contaminants will enter the dishwasher mechanism. Do not think that cleaning with chemicals will eliminate this effect. A reliable filter is essential.

The drain filter in this technique must be constantly cleaned; it can easily become clogged with food debris and other contaminants.

To clean it, you need to follow these simple steps:

  • disconnect the device from the water supply using the shut-off valve;
  • find the inlet hose with a filter from the dishwasher pipe, as well as from the tap;
  • remove filters;
  • rinse the filters and pipe to remove accumulated contaminants;
  • install all elements in place and reassemble.

If there is too much dirt, use a brush to clean it. Some owners believe that they can get by with just one drain filter, but practice shows that an additional filter in front of the supply hose will never be superfluous.

In addition, you should periodically carry out preventative cleaning of the dishwasher drain. To do this, you also need to use high quality products recommended by the manufacturer. Cleaning is done only with this product; there is no need to add other chemicals, rinse aid or salt to the dishwasher, and, of course, there should be no dishes there.

We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the features of cleaning a dishwasher at home.

Replacing the heating element of a dishwasher is a relatively simple operation if the technician has at his disposal a new, working element with the appropriate characteristics

To prevent breakdowns, you must strictly follow the operating instructions.

Here are the basic recommendations for using Electrolux dishwashers:

  • Before placing items in baskets, they should be cleared of food residues;
  • Only high quality products should be used for washing;
  • do not exceed or underestimate the amount of chemicals required for the machine;
  • you need to ensure that there is a sufficient amount of salt in the appropriate container;
  • Regularly check the condition of all filters and clean them promptly.

More detailed recommendations for using dishwashers are given in the following material.

Reason #2 - problems with the water heating device

If there are problems with heating the water during the cycle, most likely a malfunction of the heating element, sensors, or incorrect operation of the control unit is to blame. The weak point of many Western models of household appliances is their high sensitivity to sudden changes in network voltage. Such surges can damage the control board triac; this element will have to be replaced.

To correct the situation, you need to disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply, water supply and sewerage. The built-in machine will have to be completely dismantled. After this, using a tester, you need to check the serviceability of the heating element, as well as all electrical circuits. If you are unable to determine the fault yourself, you will have to contact a service center that has the appropriate diagnostic equipment.

To reflash or replace the dishwasher control board, you need to contact a service center; doing it on your own in this case can cause a lot of harm.

It is not difficult to prevent such a sad situation; just install a voltage stabilizer. The cost of additional equipment will pay off, because replacing the control board will cost much more.

Reason #3 - problems with the command apparatus

With regard to the electronics of the dishwasher, unprofessional intervention can lead to the fact that the situation will only worsen, and you will have to buy a new dishwasher.

A failure of the control module can also result in periodic freezing of the machine during the washing cycle. To correct the situation, you just need to turn off and then turn on the device again. If such a malfunction occurs rarely, there is no need to worry. But when the car has to be restarted over and over again, this most likely indicates a manufacturing defect.

To drain the water that has accumulated inside the dishwasher chamber, you will have to turn it over. After this, you need to restore the normal position of the sensors

Such a malfunction will have to be repaired by a service center after detailed diagnostics. This is the most expensive type of repair; in some cases, its cost can be comparable to the price of a budget dishwasher. But it also happens that diagnostics reveals a malfunction of a sensor; replacing it will cost much less.

Heating water

Problems with water heating are related directly to the heating element or to the sensors and control module. This foreign technology is very sensitive to voltage drops in the electrical network, which can cause a triac - a symmetrical triode thyristor in the control board - to burn out.

The control module will not be able to send the necessary signal to the heating element to heat the water - repairing the dishwasher will be expensive due to the volume of work performed:

  • dismantling the machine to get to the heating element;
  • diagnostics of it, as well as the entire electrical circuit;
  • ring the control module, identify the fault and replace it, if possible - remove it and test it in the laboratory.

Advice! To protect your assistant from voltage surges, install a stabilizer between the meter and the machine connection line with your own hands.

Repairs and diagnostics should be carried out by a specialist from the service center; checking yourself may lead to the need to replace the machine with a new one.

What to do if the dishwasher won't turn on?

First of all, you need to decide what exactly is not working. Is the backlight working? Does the machine respond to button presses? If the equipment shows no signs of life, you need to check:

  • is the machine connected to the electrical network;
  • is there electricity;
  • Is the socket working?

Plug your ELECTROLUX dishwasher into a different outlet and try to start it. Is the problem resolved? Call an electrician and have the outlet repaired.

The next “node” in line is a cord or surge protector. Both can be replaced without problems. The main thing is to make sure that this is the case. This will require a voltmeter and minimal electrical experience. You can also go the experimental route: buy a spare power cord or filter and connect it to the ELECTROLUX dishwasher. They are inexpensive and in certain cases help solve the problem without contacting a specialist.

If replacing the cord does not help, the problem may be in the control unit, heating element or wiring inside the case. The unit may burn out due to voltage surges and other reasons. Remember, did the machine work normally in recent weeks, did it give an error? Maybe the equipment didn’t wash the dishes clean before the breakdown? By remembering what preceded the breakdown, you can determine its cause. And then call a specialist.

Stuck during washing

This defect is quite common on Electrolux car models - technicians advise turning it off for a few seconds and then turning it on again. Sometimes the freeze is repeated systematically; here this method is no longer valid. There is a manufacturing defect: it is necessary to replace the control module and test the operation of the machine in all modes.

Some Electrolux car models are cheaper to buy than to replace a completely expensive control module.

Cases of failure of this component are quite rare; failures are often caused by unstable operation of sensors - aquasensor, pressure switch and the like. Dishwasher repair will consist of replacing them.

What repairs are needed if the dishwasher does not work and does not turn on at all?

If the problem is in the wiring, heating element or control unit, the technician will have to spend a lot of time on repairs. The faulty heating element or control unit is replaced. Sometimes flashing a block helps. Repair and replacement will cost a lot of money, and if you have an inexpensive ELECTROLUX dishwasher, it may be easier to replace.

Be sure to check that the machine is receiving power. Quite often people come to service centers who have forgotten to connect their equipment.

The dishwasher does not react in any way to pressing the start button; when you press “Start”, only the indicator lights up or all the indicators start flashing at once. The reasons why the dishwasher does not turn on and the indicators do not light up or blink can be very diverse: among them are simple ones that you can easily fix yourself (problems with the socket or power cord), as well as complex ones that can be repaired Only a qualified professional repairer, for example, a faulty control module.

What to do if the dishwasher LG, Indesit, Samsung, Bosch, AEG, BEKO, ARDO, Candy, LV, Samsung, Ariston, Indesit, Bosch, Lji, Ardo, Zanussi, Candy, Siemens, Whirlpool, Electrolux - further in In this article we will tell you how to clarify the root cause of the breakdown, and what is best to do in such a situation.

Modern dishwashers are equipped with numerous functions to protect against random external factors and improper operation of the device, so if the dishwasher does not turn on or hums but does not work, the reasons may be as follows:

  • prohibition of switching on in case of insufficient or unstable voltage in the network;
  • start blocking when the door is not closed tightly;
  • problems with water supply or drainage are detected;
  • electronics detected a leak;
  • The “Child Lock” function has been activated;
  • checking the system and turning off the machine in case of serious malfunctions of the engine and sensors.

Most often our clients are concerned about the following problems:

  • Dishwasher won't turn on
  • Dishwasher doesn't work
  • The dishwasher hums but doesn't work

Poor wash quality

Machines of this brand quite often have problems with the flow of water or the supply of detergents. In order not to bring Electrolux dishwashers to urgent, expensive repairs, you must immediately diagnose the problem: there is a tablet left, the powder has not dissolved, which means there is a problem with the supply of detergents or water.

Elimination methods:

  • we check the presence of water in the home water supply system;
  • look to see if the inlet hose and strainers are clogged;
  • We examine the serviceability of the detergent supply valve;
  • We analyze the correct loading of detergents.

After eliminating all the listed shortcomings, the quality of dishwashing should be excellent.

Another piece of advice: don’t be lazy to carry out various preventive maintenance work. At least 3 times a month, add 250 g of table vinegar, turn on the Economy mode, pause in the middle of the cycle and leave the machine in this state for an hour. During this time, the resulting limescale will dissolve completely and without a trace.

Power surge

If power surges are a common occurrence in your apartment, then be prepared for the dishwasher to react to them. Some models have protection against voltage surges: after this, the device does not turn on for several minutes. But if after 10 minutes the dishwasher does not work, then the accident did not pass without a trace for it:

  • due to a short circuit, the motor or its wiring could burn out;
  • The electronic control board is broken: the electronics are especially sensitive to voltage drops.

In any case, in such a situation, you should contact a specialist.

And some more good advice: if you constantly experience power surges, purchase a voltage stabilizer and connect the dishwasher and other sensitive household appliances to the power supply through it.

Design and diagnostics

A dishwasher is a device designed for washing and rinsing various dishes (from dinner plates to pots, pans, etc.). The external simplicity of the design is very deceptive, because this device has a number of modules, regulators and other control mechanisms.

It can be built-in or free-standing. The built-in type technique is considered more convenient to use, since it does not require the allocation of additional space. But at the same time, its repair is somewhat complicated by the lack of quick access to structurally important parts. The diagram looks like this:

Photo - dishwasher design

In the drawing you see the standard device structure. On the control panel (1) you select and configure various operating modes; here you determine the temperature, flow rate and water pressure. The time is controlled using a timer (14). When the settings are made, you need to load the dishes into the washing chamber. After the door latch (15) slams shut, the contacts close and, like in a washing machine, water begins to flow. Depending on the design, the machine can be connected to a boiler or boiler, then warm water comes from a hot water hose (7), at the outlet of which there is an inlet valve (9), or the liquid can be heated independently using a heating element (12).

When the water is ready, it begins to be sprayed onto the dishes from above and below using spray nozzles (2,3). Their operation is controlled by a valve (4), which is also responsible for ensuring that there is not too much water in the chamber. When the dishes are washed, the soapy liquid is removed by the drainage hose (5), and the chamber is rinsed. The latch opens and the dishes can be unloaded. In addition, the diagram indicates:

  • 6 is a power cable that is used to connect to the power supply network;
  • 8 – filter, with the help of which the control and necessary purification of running water is carried out;
  • 10 – motor;
  • 11 – pump;
  • 13 – gasket.

This device is very similar in all modern dishwashers: Ardo, Elenberg, Beko, NEFF, Hansa, Candy and others. The system can be complicated by the presence of various control functions, for example, additional cleaning or blowing of dishes. Before starting repairs, be sure to review the user manual and operating tips from the manufacturer - it may not be dismountable.

Typical machine malfunctions:

  1. No water supplied. This could be either a pump problem or a clogged filter;
  2. The device turns on but does not work. Sometimes it happens that a Samsung, Hotpoint, Silanos SER or Indesit machine seems to turn on, but cannot start. The motor or pump could have shorted out;
  3. Doesn't turn on at all. The motor windings are burnt out, the power cord is damaged, there is no voltage in the socket;
  4. The water does not drain. The sewer, drain pipe is probably clogged, or the drain pump is faulty;
  5. Water leaks from the door during operation. This is definitely a broken door lock, which should jam and ensure the tightness of the container;
  6. No reverse. Reverse is a very important function of a dome and conventional dishwasher, in the absence of which it is necessary to repair the timer or replace the motor windings;
  7. The water is not heating up. A very common malfunction that indicates a breakdown of the heating element or a malfunction of the time sensor or timer. If the machine is connected to a boiler, then it makes sense to check its functionality;
  8. Dishes do not dry. The fan and motor are responsible for this function.

DIY repair

Most of the problems mentioned above can be fixed on your own. The easiest way to clean filters is. Depending on the design, you may not even need to disassemble the device. To clean it, you need to remove all the grates from the chamber; there is a filter at the bottom under them. It can be installed on a threaded connection or simply inserted into the drainage hole. It needs to be removed and rinsed under running water. To eliminate odor, it is also recommended to wash with detergents.

Step-by-step instructions on what to do if the pump of a Zanussi ZDTS (Zanussi), Siemens (Siemens) or Krona BDE (Krona) machine is blocked:

  1. You need to turn off the water supply and unplug the power cord;
  2. Unscrew the filter cylinder and pull the cleaner out. The pump blades must be carefully unscrewed and cleaned. Pay special attention to openings that are often clogged with grease or food residues;
  3. Below the filter is the pump cover. You need to press it until it clicks and remove it from the container;
  4. The pump must be cleaned with a sponge or soft brush;
  5. Look carefully at its walls; sometimes broken dishes get here, which can break the seal of the part. If cracks or holes are found, the pump will have to be replaced.

If the problem is in the motor or another internal part, you will have to disassemble the dishwasher for repair. This process is quite fast. You just need to unscrew all the screws that hold the case in place. Note that instead of removing all fasteners, try to pay attention only to those located near the breakdown site - this will speed up the process.

Instructions on how to disassemble a Whirlpool, Siemens, Miele, Kaiser, AEG dishwasher for engine repair:

  1. You need to remove the lower front panel. Under it there is a connection between the engine and the pump, you also remove them;
  2. There may be water left in the pump and pipes, so prepare a container in advance to drain it;
  3. First, remove the pump cover as described above. Afterwards, the pump itself is unscrewed from the base and removed. The engine is located underneath it. Gaskets are often installed between parts, so be careful not to damage the seals;
  4. Check the functionality of the parts. Reinstallation is performed in the same way.

If you are not confident in your abilities, then it is better to immediately turn to specialists. A quality technician will not undertake urgent warranty repairs after preliminary intervention in the design of the dishwasher.
