Which mask would you choose or recommend?

Take the survey

Our rating invites you to get acquainted with the TOP 14 masks that collect positive ratings and reviews from users on the Internet. They have proven themselves well and are recognized as truly effective.

But we note that the site’s editors make the rating based on customer reviews and ratings, which they post on popular review sites and product aggregators. The opinion of our experts is not the only true and correct one - you can buy a completely different mask and consider it the best. To make it easier to study the rating, we have divided the list into three categories depending on the type of masks.

Recommendations for choosing a mask

It is easier for an experienced specialist to make his choice, since he is familiar with the features of many masks that he has tested during many years of practice.
But a novice welder can get confused by the abundance of proposed forms, models, functions and purposes of this type of working attribute. First of all, you need to realize that choosing a welder’s mask is an extremely responsible matter: the health of the specialist directly depends on its design and protective properties. Hundreds of accidents occur annually in the welding industry, many of which result in occupational diseases:

  • deterioration or complete loss of hearing (cause - loud noise during argon arc welding);
  • decreased or loss of vision - eye inflammation, retinal burn;
  • damage to the respiratory tract caused by small particles and exposure to smoke, toxic fumes and gases;
  • skin irritation and burns caused by hot splashes of metal, as well as radiation from ultraviolet and infrared waves. Sometimes just a few minutes of their exposure is enough to then suffer for the rest of your life.

In order to reliably protect welders from these unfavorable factors, it is necessary to select the right welding helmets.

What to pay attention to

  1. Material for making the body (helmet).

According to GOST 12.4.035-78, heat-resistant electrical insulating material is used for the manufacture of welding masks.

It must also be mechanically resistant to hot metal splashes. These requirements are met by fiberboard, various types of plastic, nylon, polypropylene and some light alloys (for example, Kevlar, which is successfully used in space technology).

It is better to focus your attention on modern plastics. Masks made from them are sufficiently durable and light in weight, which is important for long-term work. Unlike expensive Kevlar, plastic is the best option in terms of price. To work in cramped conditions, a leather welder's mask is sometimes used.

Important: If the body is damaged, use of the mask is strictly prohibited.

  1. Technical characteristics of the light filter - glass with automatic dimming (“chameleon”), which consists of:
  • a removable protective screen, which is installed in front of the light filter and replaced when dirty;
  • filter – blocker of UV and IR radiation;
  • LCD liquid crystal display;
  • an electronic circuit with arc detection sensors (for household masks, two sensors are enough, for professional masks, three or four are needed).
  1. Sensor adjustments:
  • dimming - it is better if the regulator is installed outside the housing rather than inside. This way you can work without stopping welding to adjust the degree of darkness;
  • sensitivity to the occurrence of an arc and other bright light sources (it is good if the light filter does not open immediately after welding the seam, since the molten metal continues to emit bright light for some time, which is dangerous for unprotected eyes - you can get a light shock);
  • delays (prevents the mask from opening immediately after welding is completed, which guarantees safety, for example, if the electrode gets stuck);
  • viewing angle - the larger it is, the more comfortable it is to work. On some cases, additional windows are installed on the sides for better side visibility.
  1. “Grinding-cutting-welding” functions for using the shield when the light filter is turned off. When switching to cutting with a grinder or starting the grinding operation, the light filter with tinted glass can be turned off with a special lever.
  2. Availability of solar panels and the ability to change lithium batteries. Good masks have 1-2 additional power sources, allowing the welder to replace batteries as rarely as possible. Light filters with a built-in battery are designed to last 4-5 years, after which the filter itself will need to be changed. The lithium battery lasts about a year.
  3. An adjustable headband is an important condition for comfortable work. Currently, there are masks for welders working with prescription glasses - thanks to the adjustment, the mask can be slightly moved away from the face. The size is also selected according to the diameter and height of the worker’s head.
  4. Price - from 50 rubles for a shield made of corrugated cardboard with black glass to 40,000 rubles and more for a high-tech option with all the electronic bells and whistles.

Now that it is clear how to choose a welding helmet, pay attention to the manufacturer.
In order to accurately decide on the choice of an important working attribute, you need to familiarize yourself in more detail with the offers of different class=”aligncenter” width=”600″ height=”537″[/img] Recently, Russian, South Korean, German and Czech companies. Their products are of optimal quality and reasonable prices. Please note that only reliable companies install filters against invisible radiation on their masks. Therefore, you should not trust an unfamiliar manufacturer - they may not have such filters. And with the naked eye, without special instruments, the buyer of a mask will not be able to determine the presence or absence of this most important function.

The presented review demonstrates the significant advantages of chameleon-type welding helmets over other models. Despite some disadvantages, which also exist, these masks have gained popularity among both amateurs and welding professionals.

Before choosing this protective equipment, you should take into account the types of welding that you most often deal with, the operating mode, your habits and, of course, material capabilities. Find the right balance between price, feature set and mask quality. And don't overpay for unnecessary extras!

Reviews of Fubag Optima 11 welding helmet

Switching time is one of the most important parameters of welding helmets

The automatic darkening system in Chameleon-type welder masks is implemented in one of two types. They have corresponding differences, which will be not only interesting, but also important for beginners to know:

  • automatic darkening - carried out independently immediately when a welding arc appears without the possibility of adjustment;
  • manual adjustment - the welder can independently adjust the degree of darkness.

Professionals use masks with manually adjustable shade levels, allowing them to customize their PPE for maximum performance and efficiency. However, darkening methods are not as important for the welder as the response time of the filters. This time is also called the switching frequency, which is included in the technical parameters of the products. The lower the switching speed, the greater the negative impact on the welder’s vision. There are three main switching ranges:

  • up to 50 µs - during intensive use;
  • from 51 to 75 μs - with average intensity of use;
  • from 76 to 100 µs - for domestic use.

Few people know that switching time depends on operating temperature. The lower the temperature, the lower the switching speed, so manufacturers recommend using masks with automatic darkening at temperatures down to -10 degrees.

Several important features of Chameleon masks for welding

  • Chameleon masks have restrictions on working at low temperatures. Typically the operating limit is -5…-10 °C. The response time of automatic dimming can increase significantly as the temperature drops. Some insurance in this case is the proximity to molten metal at a high temperature and the hot breath of the welder while working. In the vast majority of cases, this is enough for the mask to work properly even at such temperatures.
  • It is best to store the mask with ASF in the switched off state, so as not to discharge the batteries. You should not place the mask with the light filter down, as scratches and abrasions on the glass can then limit visibility and make work uncomfortable.
  • Some expensive mask models have a forced ventilation system to prevent fogging of the viewing window. This is especially useful if work is carried out in closed and poorly ventilated areas.
  • Filter response time. The shorter the response time, the less tired the welder’s eyes are. Normal time is considered to be from 1/10000 of a second to 1/35000 of a second.
  • Trigger sensitivity. The operation of the light filter is influenced by many factors: welding mode, welding currents, level of sun illumination, reflected light, influence of welding arcs of other welders.

This is all important to consider if you are thinking about how to choose a Chameleon welding helmet. We recommend investing once in good equipment that will ensure high comfort for the welder.

Regulators in the design of masks or how to properly configure the device for operation

Chameleon welding masks are equipped with regulators, through which you can change device parameters depending on operating conditions. Depending on the model, the design provides the following adjustment options:

  1. Darkening is the main type of adjustment that is present on almost all Chameleon masks. The dimming adjustment range is measured in DIN, and the maximum value is 12-13 DIN and the minimum is 3-4 DIN. Below is a table of the dependence of the amount of darkening on the strength of the welding current.

    Darkening table for DIN filters (depending on current strength and type of welding)

  2. Sensitivity - designed to increase or decrease the threshold of the filter. Depends on operating conditions (during the daytime in good lighting or indoors).
  3. Delay time (return from dark to light) - eliminates the possibility of premature opening of the mask and getting “welding bunnies”.
  4. Disabling the filter is an additional function that is designed to operate the mask when working with an angle grinder (grinder) in stripping or grinding mode.

Having dealt with the basic functionality of welding helmets, let’s move on to the question of how to configure them correctly. Many beginners and others are faced with the fact that after purchasing a mask (especially when ordering it online), they have difficulty setting it up. To perform adjustments, the design provides special regulators, the number and location of which differs depending on the model and manufacturer of the equipment. It is especially difficult to understand the settings if the device does not come with instructions or if they are presented in a foreign language.

Let’s look at how to set up a welding helmet yourself, step by step with photos and detailed descriptions. To begin with, it is worth noting that all Chameleon-type protective equipment with existing regulators requires adjustment manipulations. The setup process is performed as follows:

  1. The first regulator in the form of a push-button switch called MODE is designed to select the appropriate operating mode depending on the value of the welding current. The “Grid” mode is activated when performing cleaning work with an angle grinder. When you turn on the “4-8” mode, the average degree of darkening is set, which corresponds to the operation of welding equipment with currents up to 30 A. The “9-13” mode is activated when working with currents from 60 to 350 Amps. It is the latter mode that is used most often when working with modern welding machines.

  2. The second wheel-shaped control called “Shade” is responsible for more precise dimming adjustment. Along the perimeter of the regulator there are digital symbols that correspond to the set range for the first regulator. If the “4-8” mode is turned on, then the regulator can set a more precise value - 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 DIN (in parentheses). Likewise when you turn on the “9-13” mode. The degree of darkness depends not only on the current strength, but also on the visibility of the picture. With the correct degree of darkness set, the welder should see not only the arc, but also the heat-affected part with an area up to 1-2 cm in size.

  3. The next control is called “Delay”. It is responsible for delaying the filter to clarify. It is important to understand what types of metals are being welded. If these are heavy metals, welding of which is carried out with a high current, then the Delay regulator should be switched to an increased delay time mode. This is necessary so that after the arc disappears, the light filter does not work prematurely (and at the same time blind the person) when the metal at the welding site has not yet cooled down. It is at such moments that a negative impact on the welder’s vision occurs, so it is very important to set the delay as accurately as possible. If the adjustment range is not numbered, then you need to focus on the following delay values - the minimum is 0.2-0.3 seconds, and the maximum is 1-2 seconds.

  4. The regulator called Sensitivity is responsible for sensitivity. Depends on the operating conditions of the welding equipment. This may be in an open area in clear weather with bright sunshine, or indoor work in low light. If work is carried out outdoors in sunny weather, then the regulator is moved to the low sensitivity position, that is, Low. If the room is in low light, then you need to move the regulator to the other side High (maximum sensitivity).

The number and location of regulators on welding helmets of different manufacturers and models differs, but in most cases English names are used, so it will not be difficult to understand the purpose of the adjustment devices based on the instructions described above. The video below describes in detail what the regulators are responsible for and how to properly set up a Chinese welding helmet for operation.

Masks from the Russian manufacturer Resant use Russian names, so there are no difficulties with their adjustment. The video below shows how to correctly set up the Resanta MS-3 welding helmet.

Chameleon masks must be adjusted regularly before each use. This is especially true when the type of welding equipment, current strength, as well as weather conditions and the location of the manipulations change. A correctly configured Chameleon welding helmet is the key to not only saving vision, but also increasing comfort when carrying out welding work.

How does a welding helmet work?

Working with a welding machine is associated with dangerous factors for any master: the welding arc produces a dazzling light that has a negative effect on the organs of vision, and besides, it is a source of powerful infrared and ultraviolet radiation, which also causes great harm to health. In addition, during welding, all kinds of toxic substances are formed in the air, as well as droplets of hot molten metal. That is why it is so important to follow simple safety recommendations during welding work. And one of them is the use of a special welding helmet.

The mask is the main element of protection for the welder

A welder's mask is the main element of protection for any welder. The purpose of its use is to protect a person from all the negative factors listed above.

Attention! Failure to use a welding mask can lead to burns not only to the skin, but also to the cornea and blindness.

Let's look at the operating principle and design of a welding helmet. It consists of a housing that is put on the head and protects not only the face, but also the neck, a light filter that allows you to prevent too much bright light from entering the organs of vision, a headband or a belt that secures the mask on the head, a steam vent that prevents the window from fogging, as well as a number of elements which need to be changed periodically. Among them, for example, are protective filters made of polycarbonate. All materials from which such masks are made are impact-resistant and, most importantly, heat-resistant. Most often, the product casing is made of tightly compressed cardboard or heat-resistant plastic. The color of the mask is usually black or gray, but now bright and even stylish options with an unusual design have begun to appear on sale. Only the interesting colors are done not for beauty, but so that the working welder is better visible to other craftsmen somewhere at a construction site.

The structure of a chameleon mask

The mask is securely fixed on the welder’s head, which means his hands are completely free, which increases comfort and convenience during work. And labor productivity increases, since in this case only one person is enough to weld one element.

Advantages of the Chameleon mask compared to a conventional welding mask:

  • The work efficiency of a welder wearing a mask with ASF increases significantly. The worker manages to do more work in the same amount of time. It more accurately controls the welding arc from the very beginning of its combustion and the relative position of the parts during the welding process.
  • A worker with a Chameleon has both hands free during welding. There is no need to wear another mask if you need to perform metalwork work - cut an edge, fit sheets of metal more tightly, clean a seam.
  • There is no need to change filters, as when working with a regular mask, when the current changes significantly, or when choosing a different welding mode.
  • The Chameleon dims automatically - you don’t need to put on or take off the mask, everything is clearly visible in it.

After weighing all the factors, decide for yourself what is better for you - a regular mask or a “Chameleon”.

What types of welding masks are there? Types of protective filters

The main element of any mask is a light filter. It is this that protects the organs of vision from the negative light effects of the welding arc. Let's figure out what it is like.

The structure of the chameleon mask filter

Table. Types of filters.

TypesDescription
RegularThis filter looks like glass with a very dark color coating applied to it. Through it, in normal daylight, practically nothing is visible. But the welding arc is clearly visible during operation. The degree of darkness should be selected depending on the working conditions. A number of mask models make it possible to remove the dark filter and look at the results of your work through ordinary transparent glass. The light filter in standard masks can be replaced, which is why they are also called options with a replaceable light filter (C-4, C-5, C-6, C-7, there is also a European classification 9-12 DIN). Such masks are inexpensive and the simplest.
ChameleonsThis type of filter is made of two glasses at once, and between them there are special liquid crystals. In normal light conditions, through the window of such a product you can see everything around as if through sunglasses. But when a welding arc appears, the crystals begin to change their position in space within thousandths of a second, and the filter glass darkens - only the arc becomes visible. There can be several such liquid crystal layers (up to 3 pieces). Also, filters can be coated with polarizing films, one of which is coated with mirror coating. Chameleons are required to have arc sensors, as well as batteries. These can be batteries, accumulators, solar panels. These masks are gradually replacing standard ones, because they are more convenient to use, and they offer better protection. Plus, you don’t need to waste time changing the filter if operating conditions change. And when welding is not carried out, it is possible to clean the seam, for example, using the same mask.

Advice! If possible, opt for a chameleon mask, even if you plan to rarely perform welding work. This mask is more expensive, but overall it will be more convenient and effective.

Some chameleon-type masks can be adjusted and customized in every possible way. For example, adjust the level of darkness, light sensitivity (it will help change the threshold of the filter), the time of illumination (will not allow the mask to quickly brighten, even when the welding is already completed, and the metal itself is still glowing).

Darkness level of welding filters

The masks themselves can be divided into three types: a shield, a regular mask and a mask with a lifting filter. Additionally, some models are equipped with filtration systems, helmets, headphones and other protective elements that provide additional comfort during work and increase the level of protection.

There are also products with forced air supply. They will help the master breathe comfortably during work. The fact is that during welding, gases formed during the melting of the electrode and the welding process enter the air. This smoke is very harmful to health. And if it is released in a confined space, it can lead to serious poisoning of the welder. And masks with forced filtration will help you breathe fresh air calmly. Due to a small motor that draws air through the filter, oxygen flows through the hose directly under the mask. Of course, the system requires additional equipment, but in some cases its purchase is justified.

About the protective product

A welding helmet is a device for protecting the headband from arc light, scale flying into the face, ultraviolet radiation and gases released during operation. The initial appearance resembles a head shield with straps, equipped with a rectangular-shaped tinted glass. This device is characteristic of the oldest conventional means of welder protection - the first units appeared in tsarist times, their base was steel or leather. A simple darkened lens was attached in the area of the master’s eyes; at first the fastener was a double-sided metal frame with rivets; later it became possible to detach and change the glass.

An example of the very first welder shields can be seen in old photographs of the construction of the Titanic or Aurora ships. Over the years, developers initially made minor changes to the design of such devices: the body became plastic, the inner surface was lined with soft materials for convenience, and the straps were replaced with elastic bands and butt pads with the ability to adjust to the size of the head.

Still, the prototype of a welding helmet should be called a shield with the same lens and a handle for holding it. The master held a shield in one hand and an electrode in the other. The invention of the head mask allowed welders to work with both hands.

From visor to helmet

As in our case, the number of manufacturers and competition directly influence the expansion of the choice of goods. Every manufacturer wants to produce products that will become popular with the majority of consumers. This situation gives an incentive to enterprises to develop new designs that can outperform older versions of welding masks in one or more parameters, for example:

  • glass size - the larger it is, the wider the view;
  • respiratory features - the ability to protect the headband not only from light and scale, but also the respiratory system from toxic gases released during welding is added;
  • appearance. Although it is not a functional feature, it is able to attract the buyer, after which he can “demonstrate” the advantages of the unit - simple psychology;
  • the ability to select light filters depending on the job;
  • the presence of anti-fogging elements - the glass sweats when the temperature changes, which interferes with work;
  • dimensions and weight, you won’t be able to work for long in a massive heavy mask;
  • the presence of an additional set of glasses, even better - the ability to install most of the standard lenses after the “original” filters have worn out;
  • the ability to use products for workers with myopia and farsightedness - adding magnifying lenses according to the required diopters.

Thanks to the presence of a large number of manufacturers, the continuous development of new units and upgrades of existing versions, there are a huge number of different models on the market. A modern welder's mask may externally resemble an unusual helmet of a motorcyclist or a soldier of the future - progress does not stand still.

There are units equipped with integrated respirators, adjustable ventilation and even channels for air supply. Some models can play the role of a construction helmet, that is, cover the entire head. As a rule, such units are equipped with a folding front part (the mask itself) - a full-fledged helmet.

Introduction of electronics

The development of new systems expands the classification of appropriate welder protection equipment, and the main, let’s say, revolutionary invention is the automatic darkening and brightening of the light filter using special sensors that react to light. Such units have electronic filling, and the energy source is a battery or accumulator.

Modern models have adjustable darkening/lightening speed. Along with the introduction of innovative technologies, the price also rises - especially branded masks with such systems are very expensive. Now it’s worth considering in general: what welding masks currently exist, what groups they are divided into.

How to choose a welding mask

Masks are actively used:

  • enterprises;
  • metalwork shops;
  • on construction sites;
  • ONE HUNDRED;
  • in workshops.

For such organizations, welding helmets are purchased by the owner of the enterprise and then given to employees. But often the products are also used privately in the country house or in the garage. Here you will have to make a choice yourself. Of course, in this case you can purchase a simpler and cheaper product, since it will be used quite rarely in any case.

So where to start? First you need to look at the appearance of the mask - it should be without visible defects. Pay attention to the design, weight and dimensions, evaluate the possibilities of adjusting the product to the parameters of your head. You need to look not only at the size of the headband, but also at the seating depth and the tilt of the mask. In some models, the distance between the filter and the face can be adjusted - this mask will be most comfortable. All adjustment mechanisms must be durable and reliable in appearance. In general, you should not experience any serious discomfort when wearing a mask.

Try on a welding helmet

The correct shape of the casing will provide additional protection. But this parameter can only be determined in practice. The mask should have good streamlining and elongation at the bottom so that scale does not fall on the neck and chest. And such a model will provide better protection from smoke. The top of the product should have a rounding that will protect against scale getting on the top of the head.

Look at the size of the light filter: the larger it is, the better the view in such a mask. But such a product is considered more fragile, and this must be taken into account. The screens of the masks are standard - from 9x3.2 cm to 11x9.3 cm. For those who can look directly at the work area, you can take options with a small window. And for those who work in difficult conditions (for example, with pipes placed close to walls), it is better to take a mask with a larger window.

Weight is also of great importance. After all, your head and neck will hold the mask. The weight of the products varies from 0.35 to 0.9 kg. It depends on the design of the mask. The lighter the product, the better, because then the load on the neck will be less.

When choosing a filter, its light sensitivity and level of protection, consider the conditions in which you will work. Here you need to look at the optical class of the product. It characterizes the accuracy of the picture. If the optical class is equal to one, then there will be no distortion of objects at all. The transparency of the filter depends on light scattering. There is also uniformity of darkening - homogeneity. There is also the concept of angular darkness - it shows how much darkness depends on the viewing angle. All these positions can have a value from 1 to 3.

Optical characteristics of the welding filter

Example! If the optical class of a mask is designated as 1/3/2/1, then this means that it has clarity class 1, light dispersion level 3, homogeneity level 2, angular darkening 1. Ideally, if the designations of the mask have units everywhere, that is 1/1/1/1.

Chameleon masks can have various adjustment options: dimming, opening delay time, sensitivity. They can be either internal or external, and their switching can be stepped or smooth. Good masks have all three types of adjustments. Internal type adjustment elements are suitable if the mask will be used almost always under the same conditions. For those whose working conditions are constantly changing, it is better to take the option with external adjustment. It is also suitable for using one mask by different people.

See also how quickly the chameleon filter works when the light level changes. Usually the speed is high and amounts to 0.001 seconds, that is, the mask is guaranteed to protect the eyes from flashes of light. But the lower the air temperature in the place where the welder works, the slower the filter operates, and this must be taken into account when working outdoors or in cold rooms.

A good mask darkens very quickly when a welding arc occurs.

Attention! If you plan to weld with argon, then the mask must be suitable for this type of welding. Not all models are suitable for it. But if the mask is designed for such work, then it will work for everyone else.

Each mask must have an appropriate certificate. Only its presence will confirm the safety and effectiveness of the product. Of course, you need to carefully read the instructions for using the mask. By the way, it contains information about certification and other useful information. Types of certification:

  • CE - one sample from the series must be tested before sale;
  • DIN - 10 samples are tested after two years and under working conditions;
  • DIN plus - 10 masks are tested every year under working conditions.

If you choose a chameleon mask, then pay attention to the type of nutrition of its elements. They are necessary to provide energy to the crystals in the filters. Most masks are equipped with a built-in battery or rechargeable battery. They need to be changed regularly for the product to work. But it is convenient if the mask is also equipped with a solar battery, which absorbs light and generates energy. The battery life in this case is much longer.

Advice! If a mask with a solar battery has been lying idle for a long time in the dark, then before using it you need to recharge it a little in the light, otherwise the light filter will not work.

How to repair a welding helmet or learn how to fix breakdowns yourself

Repairing a Chameleon welding helmet is a procedure that involves replacing the batteries, but first things first. Chameleon or auto-darkening masks are powered by lithium-ion button cell batteries. These batteries are recharged from the built-in solar panels, so there is no need for other recharging methods. Manufacturers claim that the battery cannot be replaced and has an unlimited service life, but reality shows the opposite. Very often, lithium-ion batteries are discharged, which leads to the inoperability of the filter. Why is this happening?

  1. The main reason is that the batteries must be constantly recharged, which means that the mask must be used regularly.
  2. If the mask is used occasionally, the electronics consume battery power, and the solar panels do not replenish it due to the lack of bright light.
  3. In winter, masks are stored in unheated garages, and exposure to low temperatures has a detrimental effect on the health of batteries. By spring, many welders often encounter problems with the Chameleon mask and decide to purchase a new product.

There is no point in buying a new welding helmet or a separate light filter because it is faulty, as you can repair it yourself. The entire process of repairing a welding helmet consists of the following steps:

  1. First, you need to dismantle the filter housing by disconnecting it from the welding helmet. This is done in order to be able to access the device board.

  2. After dismantling the filter, you can begin disassembling the housing. To do this, we separate the cover from the body and gain access to the board on which the Li-Ion battery is installed. The number of batteries depends on the number of sensors. If four sensors are used, then two 3V batteries are installed in the housing.

  3. Using a multimeter, you need to measure the battery voltage. If the value is below 3 Volts, it means the element is faulty and must be replaced. You should first hold the filter in the light to recharge the battery.

  4. If there are no difficulties in finding the battery, then problems with replacement are possible. The main difficulty is the need to resolder the contacts to install the battery on the board. A regular soldering iron will not be suitable for such work, since prolonged exposure to high temperatures will quickly damage the new battery. For such purposes, you will need spot welding, through which the contacts are soldered within 1 second.
  5. As an alternative, it is recommended to use special slots for batteries, which look like this.

  6. A new battery is installed in this slot, and the wires are soldered to the contacts on the board, observing polarity.

  7. The slot together with the battery is attached to the body of the mask, which facilitates subsequent replacement of batteries. The only drawback of this method is the loss of voltage in the wires due to resistance, so the battery will charge more slowly. The wire should be made as short as possible.

This completes the repair of the welding helmet with a faulty filter. All that remains is to test the product in operation and make sure it is in good working order.

Summing up the welding helmet repair, one very important point should be noted - if you continue to use the device irregularly, the new batteries will also not last long. Although their cost is low (about 50-100 rubles), constant replacement is not a pleasure. You can solve the problem as follows:

  1. Keep the mask in the light so that the battery is recharged regularly or periodically.
  2. Make a switch that de-energizes the power supply to the board. This will help the battery charge last longer.

A regular switch needs to be soldered so as to ensure a circuit break between the battery and the board, as shown in the photo below.

Now you know how to repair a faulty light filter on a Chameleon welder’s mask. The repair process is the same for all products from different manufacturers. The video shows and explains the detailed process of repairing a welding helmet with your own hands.
