The design of the nozzle is characterized by the presence of a pair of working strips of bristles, applied along the entire length of the brush roller. These bristle strips contain hairs made from different materials.


The design of this nozzle is made taking into account simple disassembly, accessible to the average user. When disassembled, it is convenient and easier to clean the nozzle mechanism from hair, fabric threads and other debris.

Appearance and function

The vacuum cleaner is supplied in a small elongated box made of durable corrugated cardboard. The box is without a handle, but on the outside it is covered with film, to which you can attach a traditional handle made of adhesive tape without any damage to the appearance of the box itself. The design of the box is strict and informative, the planes clearly describe the main advantages and features of the unit, how to use it, the equipment is shown with pictures, and the exact weight is indicated so that by weighing you can determine the integrity of the equipment (4.99 kg - however, all our scales showed 5 kg exactly).

A minimal amount of plastic is used for packaging, and corrugated cardboard inserts and partitions are used to protect and distribute components.

The vacuum cleaner is delivered in almost ready-to-use form - you just need to remove it from the packaging and connect the currently needed accessories to the main unit.

The main parts of the housing and accessories are made of various types of plastic. Opaque structural elements are mainly made of ABS, transparent ones are made of polycarbonate (dust collector cup, for example).

The surface of ABS parts is mirror-smooth, apparently without coating, but minor damage and scratches on them are invisible, since the plastic is not too light and not too dark, but gray (with a slight tint of brown) and slightly silver, in places with streaks due to variations in concentration filler. The small cyclone unit has a dark gray silver scratch-resistant coating on the outside.

The inner cup of the large cyclone is now made of red elastic plastic, and the extension pipe is made of aluminum, anodized on the outside and also red.

The V6 line of vacuum cleaners, in addition to the one we tested, includes six more models, differing in names, colors of parts and equipment. At the same time, Total Clean is the most advanced variation, and it is also the most expensive.

A plastic liner is inserted inside the pipe, forming a smooth and even channel for air passage. At the ends of the pipe you can see connectors that provide connection to the electric drives of the brushes to the power source.

The transparent body of the dust collector allows you to assess the degree of its filling at first glance. The bottom of the dust bin is made to fold down; to do this, just pull down the red slider.

The second press releases the dust collector cup itself - it can be removed along with the inlet pipe.

You need to assemble it strictly in the reverse order: first fix the glass in place, and only then close the bottom. A pre-motor filter made of fibrous material is inserted into the hole at the top, surrounded by 15 mini-cyclones. The post-motor filter is fixed at the end by turning. The name HEPA is not mentioned anywhere, but the manufacturer states that this filter can “capture the smallest particles, trapping allergens and bacteria down to 0.3 microns in size.”

When the filters become dirty, they must be washed with cold water and dried. The manufacturer recommends performing this procedure at least once a month.

Comment from Dyson representatives: in addition to the frequency of filter washing, let’s add the need to properly wash the filters - the filters need to be washed under running cold water and in the direction opposite to the air movement.

The parts described make up a five-stage filtration system. On the first, large and heavy debris is separated from the air in a large cyclone, on the second, large and light debris (wool, fluff, etc.) is retained by a mesh on the inner cup of the dust collector, on the third, 15 small cyclones separate the smallest dust and air, the dust is dumped into dust collector container, and the air goes to the fan through the pre-motor filter (the fourth stage of filtration), which catches almost everything that managed to leak out, and finally the post-motor filter does the final cleaning. Note that all joints of detachable structural elements, pipes and nozzles through which air passes from the surface to be cleaned to the fan have seals made of rubber or elastic plastic, so parasitic air leakage is negligible. Reliable connection of the pipe with the pipe/nozzles and the pipe with the nozzles is ensured by snap fasteners. In this case, the latches switch to stable closed and open positions. There is no particular need for this, since they are conveniently located, but this allows you to separate the push-pull actions in time when disconnecting the pipe/pipe/nozzle.

The battery is located at the bottom of the handle.

This arrangement of the motor, handle and battery makes it possible to bring the center of gravity of the vacuum cleaner closer to the user’s hand, resulting in a reduction in the amount of effort required to vacuum vertical and high objects. Actually, the vacuum cleaner itself, as well as the pipe and simple (without motors) attachments, are lightweight, although seemingly reliable. Simple (without a motor) nozzles are, firstly, a typical crevice nozzle.

It is long enough (213 mm) to get into hidden places where dust accumulates, and with a number of holes on the side surface that help maintain the air flow necessary for cyclone operation and engine cooling while completely blocking the nozzle inlet. The length from the tip of the crevice nozzle with the installed pipe to the trigger is more than a meter, that is, this is how much the user can extend his arm as much as possible when using this vacuum cleaner. Secondly, a combined nozzle with a wider inlet and a sliding brush made of relatively long and soft nylon bristles.

The main wide brush nozzle has a relatively low profile and is equipped with a hinge with two degrees of freedom (vertical deflection slightly less than 90°, rotation along the pipe by 180°).

This brush can be slipped under extended pieces of furniture with a small clearance (from 70 mm). A brush rotating from an electric motor with two spiral rows of bristles is designed to actively influence the surface to be cleaned. At the same time, the black row is formed from soft carbon fiber bristles that retain their shape well, and the red row is made from thicker and more rigid nylon bristles. During operation, the transparent cap allows you to determine whether the brush is rotating (it stops when there is increased resistance to rotation), and during breaks you can see how much and what is wrapped around the brush and whether it’s time to clean it. To remove the brush shield, you need to use a coin (not included in the delivery) to turn the latch; with the same coin you can unscrew the plug from the end to pull the brush out.

An innovation is the placement of the electric drive inside the brush itself. This made it possible to make the ends of a minimum width; as a result, with a brush width of 251 mm, the working width is 228 mm with approximately equal margins on the sides. Velor strips are glued to the body of the nozzle, which help maintain the necessary air flow on smooth surfaces from below (they do not allow the brush to stick tightly) and protect the floor surface from scratches, and at the front they form a safety bumper for furniture. Two small rollers made of elastic material help the brush glide across the floor.

Additionally, this package includes an electric brush with an electric drive of a similar design, but with a different roller and hinge. This brush is called Fluffy .

Rows of black soft carbon fiber bristles on this large roller are separated by fields of soft, short nylon bristles. Similar to the previous brush, there are safety velor strips and two rollers on the bottom. And in addition, moving on the floor is facilitated by a small diameter roller, also with soft and short nylon bristles. At the ends of this roller there are washers made of elastic plastic, which control the clearance between the floor and the nozzle body. The total width of the nozzle is 250 mm, the working width is 224 mm. At the same time, the casing ends at the front before reaching the floor, which allows the large roller to rake out debris almost flush against vertical surfaces.

The joint in conjunction with the pipe allows vertical and horizontal deflection with a range of slightly less than 90° in both axes. The tightness of the joint is ensured by a corrugated plastic sleeve. You can still remove the rollers for cleaning using a coin.

Inherited from the previous model range was a narrow electric brush without a hinge (but with a rotating casing) and with nylon bristles in sparse tufts.

Dyson representatives comment: The mini electric brush is designed for use without an aluminum tube - making it ideal for thoroughly cleaning upholstered furniture and cleaning outerwear, as well as car interiors from hair and pet hair.

The vacuum cleaner is controlled by a trigger on the handle. The trigger is pulled - the motor spins, not pulled - it doesn’t spin. This non-latching algorithm allows you to further save battery power, since the user is more likely to turn off the suction only at the right moments, since the motor spins up very quickly. Additionally, while the trigger is pressed, you can press the round button at the end of the motor unit, then its rim will glow blue when the vacuum cleaner is operating, and the vacuum cleaner itself will operate in high power mode.

The next press of the button at the end (also with the trigger pressed, that is, when the vacuum cleaner is running) will switch the motor to normal power and turn off the blue backlight. This vacuum cleaner is equipped with a fan with a digitally controlled brushless motor, a neodymium magnet and a rotation speed of up to 110,000 rpm. The impeller and the engine itself are the company’s own development. Let us remind you that in comparison with cheaper brushed motors, more expensive brushless ones have the following advantages: higher efficiency and reliability, increased service life (no wearing brushes and commutator), reduced operating noise, reduced level of electromagnetic interference.

On both sides of the handle on the battery pack there are status indicators that light up blue when the vacuum cleaner is running if the battery charge is at a sufficient level for operation, flash blue when the battery is low, and flash/light orange when the battery is overheated and flash red when the battery is faulty. When operating, a low charge and a malfunction are also indicated by a flashing blue indicator around the power level selection button. The vacuum cleaner is charged from the supplied power adapter, the coaxial connector from which is inserted into the mating socket on the back of the handle.

When charging, the indicators on the vacuum cleaner glow blue, and when completed, they turn off. Store the vacuum cleaner conveniently suspended on a special bracket.

This bracket is screwed to the wall or other vertical surface at two points. The vacuum cleaner is easily inserted into and removed from the bracket, and is charged on it, since the connector from the power adapter is fixed in the bracket, and when installing the vacuum cleaner, this connector fits exactly into the mating connector on the handle.

The length of the power cable from the point of exit from the bracket to the adapter itself is 145 cm. At the bottom of the bracket there are sockets for the crevice and combined nozzle. When the bracket is installed at a sufficient height, the vacuum cleaner can be stored with the pipe installed and one of the electric brush attachments (unfortunately, there was no room for the other two).

Note that the vacuum cleaner itself and even the battery have a two-year warranty. If necessary, the battery can be replaced by the user himself (replacement instructions are included with the new battery), for which it is enough to unscrew two self-tapping screws.

The battery is equipped with a self-diagnosis function - when the trigger is pulled, the indicator on a faulty battery will flash red a certain number of times, corresponding to the type of fault.

Testing

Actually, the Dyson V6 vacuum cleaner itself is not much different from the previously reviewed DC62 model, so we didn’t learn anything fundamentally new. The main innovation is the post-motor high-efficiency filter. It cannot be said that fine cyclones and the pre-engine filter did not do their job well, but now allergy sufferers have confidence that allergens will not miss the last line of air purification. Also, minor changes have been made to the design of the cup and the internal “skirt” of the dust collector, and it seemed to us that the dust collector has become a little easier to install in place. Other changes, if present, do not appear outwardly. On the right is a Dyson V6, on the left is a Dyson DC62, with the dust collector cup slightly cloudy after several months of use:

On the new large direct-drive brush, a visible amount of carbon fiber bristles still initially emerges from the rows of black bristles, but again, we did not observe further signs of active “shedding.” The main advantages of this brush are the increased working width and narrow ends, as well as the large diameter of the shaft, on which hair and threads are practically not wound, and everything wound is easily removed by hand, without the use of tools.

For some reason, we weren't particularly impressed with the Fluffy brush. Somehow I can’t believe that it is much more effective than, for example, the direct drive brush described above. In contrast, the Fluffy brush has a stiff shaft and short bristles, so it should only work well on flat, smooth surfaces. It is not very clear what useful functional load the second roller of small diameter with pile carries, since no dirt is removed from it by the air flow, everything just accumulates on it. Also, a lot of dirt accumulates inside the brush body in numerous niches and pockets.

Comment from Dyson representatives: The functional load of the “missing” front screen of the Fluffy can be supplemented with the following important information - the front part of the nozzle has an open design, allowing large debris (corn flakes, breakfast cereals, legumes, cereals) to freely fall into the area of ​​action of the rotating shaft without creating a “snow-bucket effect”, and the roller, completely covered with soft bristles, carefully and thoroughly collects fine dust. The rear stabilizing roller (in the text - a roller of small diameter with pile) acts as a support for the nozzle when the large front roller “collides” with large elements of debris.

The Fluffy brush rollers need to be washed under water. We washed and dried, but as a result the pile on the rollers stuck together and formed hard tangles. We thought that the pile was cemented by residual dust. Okay, washed it with a mild detergent, dried it - still the same tangles.

Comment from Dyson representatives: The Fluffy nozzle should be “rinsed” under running cold water, strictly without using any detergents. The nozzle rollers can be dried exclusively naturally, without hair dryers, batteries, towels or direct sunlight. In this case, the pile of the nozzle will return to its previous state if you run your hand in the direction of the pile. In your case, the nozzle, unfortunately, is damaged due to the use of detergents and thorough washing.

They, tangles, of course, break slightly during work, but still you can’t get the original delicate pile. Never. The main, and from our point of view, the only advantage of the Fluffy brush, in comparison with the main brush with direct drive, is the casing open at the front, which, as we indicated, allows you to get close to the baseboard and walls.

Most of all, we liked the mini-electric brush familiar from the previous model; it better matches the size and tasks of this compact vacuum cleaner. This brush sticks quite strongly to the surface, so you don’t have to press it further. The main disadvantages of the mini-electric brush are the small-diameter shaft, on which threads and hair are tightly wound, and also the fact that it is impossible to crawl under the sofa with it - there is no hinge in connection with the pipe.

Let us remind you that emptying the dust container is very convenient and in most cases contact with dust can be minimized, since you can immerse the vacuum cleaner in a garbage bag/bucket, unfasten the lid and knock lightly - almost everything will fall out of the main container of the dust container and from the fine cyclones.

Something may get caught in the mesh on the walls of the inner glass, and if it does not come off when tapped, you will have to remove the transparent container and clean the mesh with a brush (you can use a combination brush from the kit).

Comment from Dyson representatives: A clogged mesh screen indicates that waste collection exceeded the maximum permitted level (MAX mark) in the container. In maximum power mode, during actual use, the operating suction power may well reach the maximum value, since in this case the air flow is more than 50% of the initial one. This power is enough, even without using an active brush. In the normal power mode, the working suction power is significantly less; the rotating brush definitely doesn’t fit here, especially in the case of wide nozzles. Additionally, we measured the suction power without a post-motor filter. Of course, it increased a little, but not by much. This means that this filter, despite its (claimed) efficiency, does not offer very much resistance to air flow (at least while it is new and has never been washed).

The successful model of a lightweight, compact and powerful vacuum cleaner has received a significant improvement in the form of an additional post-motor filter that captures the smallest particles, including allergens. Two new wide nozzles with direct brush drive also appeared, which made it possible to reduce the width of the ends.
