How to choose?
When purchasing a heat gun, the first factor you need to pay attention to is the rate of heating of the room.
So, for a room of 150 m² you will need a gun with a power of 80 kW. Other characteristics include the following:
- thermal insulation of the case - heating of the surface of the device during operation should not exceed +40 degrees;
- mobility – it is best to give preference to models with wheels;
- noise emission - keep in mind, the more powerful the equipment fan, the louder sounds will accompany its operation;
- heating control option - it is desirable that the equipment be supplemented with a button or knob, with which each user can independently set the necessary thermostat parameters;
- possibility of battery operation - if you plan to use the gun in conditions where there is no electricity supply, then you should choose a model that runs on a storage device; as practice shows, even a car battery is enough to achieve continuous operation for several hours;
- when purchasing, be sure to inquire about the overheating protection system: many manufacturers offer it as an additional device for maximum operating safety; It is optimal if the gun is equipped with an automatic heating degree control system and an option to turn off the equipment when overheated.
Types of heat guns
Speaking about safety, many may wonder where combustion products go, because diesel fuel burns and forms certain substances that need to be removed
All these compounds are quite dangerous to human health, so it is important to take care of their removal. And now it’s time to tell you that diesel heat guns come in two types: direct and indirect heating
Each of these types has its own characteristics, features and possibilities for use.
A diesel heat gun with indirect heating is well suited for a garage. This design requires the presence of a pipe - it is designed to remove exhaust gases. A hose is attached to it, which can later be taken outside. This will not lead to any significant heat loss, but harmful carbon monoxide and other substances that pose a health hazard will not accumulate in the room. This is why a diesel heat gun is perceived by many as a better option compared to gas models. Many gas-powered appliances do not have this method of removing combustion products, so you will need to open the garage for ventilation, which will cause significant loss of precious heat.
Principle of operation
There are two types of units in this category: direct and indirect heating. In the first option, all exhaust, that is, exhaust gases, end up inside the heated room. It is not recommended to use such devices in residential buildings. An indirect heating diesel gun means that the residues are discharged to the street through an installed chimney. The room is filled with exceptionally warm, clean air. However, a prerequisite for the operation of such guns is the presence of high-quality ventilation, since the oxygen in the room is greatly consumed during its operation.
Scope of application
Diesel fuel heat guns can be found in many places. They are usually used for heating, during the installation of suspended ceilings to speed up the heating process of the film, and also wherever there is a need for mobile devices that can quickly and not too expensively heat rooms of different sizes.
The most widespread use of heat guns, reviews of which from users are mostly positive, are used as devices for heating warehouses, construction halls, and other places where heating is required, but the use of traditional equipment is difficult or impossible for some reason . In particular, such devices are becoming relevant for buildings that do not have a direct connection to electrical networks. The operation of a heat gun also requires a certain consumption of electrical energy, but not much of it is needed, so a small portable generator is quite capable of coping with this task.
Diesel guns: characteristics of heating devices
With the arrival of the cold season, the problem of space heating arises. Moreover, this applies not only to living rooms, but also to industrial, warehouse and retail spaces. If the building does not have a centralized heating system, the lack of heat is compensated with the help of alternative heating devices. As such a replacement, you can buy an indirectly heated diesel heat gun with suitable characteristics.
Mobile heat guns are equipped with wheels and a handle for convenient movement of the device.
Liquid fuel heat guns: types, device
Diesel fuel can be bought, perhaps, everywhere. This explains the high interest in heating units of this kind. But it must be remembered that when burning there is always a smell and fumes. And the cost of heating will be higher when compared, for example, with similar units running on liquefied gas. Therefore, in most cases, a diesel heat gun is purchased as a temporary option - for heating a building under construction, a garage. Such units are convenient for heating warehouses and industrial premises. With good ventilation, direct heating guns can be used. They have an efficiency close to 100%, but combustion products remain in the room. Therefore, well-functioning ventilation is necessary so that the concentration of harmful substances does not exceed permissible limits.
Scope of application of a diesel heat gun
For heating residential buildings, diesel guns are used very rarely. If they are used, then only models with exhaust gas removal. They are also called indirect heating. They have a lower efficiency (80-85%), but combustion products are discharged outside the room. To do this, a chimney pipe is connected to the outlet pipe of the combustion chamber, which is led outside.
Direct heat - high efficiency
The direct heating diesel heating gun has a very simple design. There are two key devices - a fan and a burner. They are built into a metal case. The body most often has the shape of a cylinder and looks very much like a cannon.
Direct heating diesel heat gun device
Fuel is supplied to the nozzle, where it is sprayed and mixed with air. The resulting mixture is set on fire. In well-designed/calculated designs, the flame does not escape beyond the combustion chamber. Only heated air comes out. To increase heating efficiency, there is a fan behind the nozzle that drives air along the combustion chamber.
As can be seen from the design, combustion products enter the room
Therefore, it is very important to use high-quality fuel. One option is kerosene.
It has a less unpleasant odor and emits less soot. However, the smell, soot, oxygen burning - all this is present, even if you burn with kerosene.
Indirect heating - with removal of combustion products
A diesel gun with an exhaust outlet differs only in that the combustion chamber is sealed relative to the room. Combustion products are discharged through a pipe in the upper part. A chimney is connected to this pipe, which must be led outside.
How does a diesel fuel heat gun with gas removal (indirect heating) work?
The air driven by the fan flows around the combustion chamber body and heats up. This heats the air in the room. It is clear that this is not nearly as effective as the previous design, but it is much safer. Although ventilation is still needed, since oxygen is still taken from the air. But the exhaust does not remain in the room.
What to choose for heating your garage
Now you know how a diesel heat gun works. This is a source of thermal energy produced by burning diesel fuel. For work inside garages, we recommend taking a closer look at indirect heating models. Their efficiency indicator is 4-5% less, but the safety of people working in the building is paramount.
Ballu BHDN-20
We have before us a model of indirect heating, like all other samples from our review.
The power of the unit is 20 kW, which is enough to warm up a garage of up to 200 square meters. m. The capacity of the onboard fan is 500 cubic meters of air per hour. Exhaust gases are removed from the combustion chamber through a chimney connected to a vertical pipe. The fuel pump and injector are manufactured by the famous Dunfoss brand. The fuel for operating a diesel heat gun is stored in a 24-liter tank - not enough, but easy to refuel. Fuel consumption is 1.6 kg/hour. The flame in the nozzle is ignited by an electric spark. The model can be used in rooms with an aggressive atmosphere. The control system is of a mechanical type, without unnecessary electronics. The cost of the gun is from 27 thousand rubles.
Elitech TP 25DN
With a power of 25 kW, this heat gun is designed to work in garages up to 135 square meters. m. The air exchange rate in this model is only 329 cubic meters per hour - the fan is rather weak. The heat gun turned out to be compact, the body of its combustion chamber is painted red - creating a strong association with a painted samovar or fire extinguisher. The power source is an electrical network with a voltage of 220 or 380 V. Fuel consumption does not exceed 1.8 l/hour. Price – about 21 thousand rubles.
NeoClima NPI-20
This impressive-sized heat gun was equipped with a fan with a capacity of 1000 cubic meters.
m/hour. Its power is 21 kW, heating area (garages, warehouses, utility rooms) is up to 200 sq. m. The device confidently copes with its duties, consuming no more than 6.3 kg of fuel per hour of operation. Given its gluttony, the unit was equipped with a 42-liter tank. It can be used even in damp rooms - this is due to the use of a moisture-proof housing. Combustion in this heat gun is indirect. The chimney is connected through a pipe with a diameter of 100 mm. For ease of carrying, there is a handle and wheels on board. The cost of the unit in online stores is about 26-27 thousand rubles.
Master BV 290E
This model is aimed at heating large garages and service stations. The performance of the onboard fan is 3300 cubic meters per hour - the air flow at the outlet is quite strong. The thermal power of the gun is 81 kW, which is enough to heat garages and service station premises with an area of up to 800 square meters. The device requires electricity to operate. Its source is electrical networks with a voltage of 220 or 380 V.
The Master BV 290E heat gun runs on diesel fuel. It is stored in a built-in tank with a volume of 105 liters. With a flow rate of 6.8 kg/hour, this is enough for more than 15 hours of continuous operation. The remaining fuel in the tank is monitored using a mechanical indicator (it is conditional and imprecise). The cost of the gun is about 124 thousand rubles.
Resanta TDPN-30000
Diesel heat gun with a power of 30 kW from a well-known domestic manufacturer. The body is traditionally cigar-shaped, similar to an aircraft turbine. It contains a closed combustion chamber, a nozzle and a fan. There is a fuel tank under the body. It holds 50 liters of fuel. One refueling is enough for almost 19 hours of work - we refuel once and work in the garage for almost a day. The air exchange capacity is 800 cubic meters per hour. The cost of the device is about 50 thousand rubles.
Kerona PID-90
This heat gun is made in a slightly shortened body.
It is compact and does not take up much space. At the same time, it is light - the weight is 30 kg without taking into account fuel. There is a 49-liter tank on board for diesel fuel. With a flow rate of 2.7 l/hour, this is enough for 18 hours of continuous operation. Thermal power is 28 kW with a heating area of up to 200 sq. m. If the garage is much smaller, there is nothing to worry about - there is a thermostat on board. The Kerona heat gun uses diesel fuel to operate. Its quality is not particularly important, but just in case there is a fuel filter inside. The ignition here is electronic, turned on by pressing a button. If the device overheats, it automatically turns off. To connect the chimney, there is a pipe at the top of the heat gun. The cost of the unit in online stores is about 40 thousand rubles.
Choosing a gas gun for the garage
In some garages, the electrical wiring may not be able to withstand the simultaneous connection of an electric heater and, for example, some kind of power tool, and as a result, the overload protection will be triggered.
Using a gas gun for a garage allows you to quickly warm up the garage, provided that its power is selected taking into account its area. Excess power will waste gas, and too little power will not be able to properly warm the room. Typically, 1 kilowatt is capable of heating 10 m2 of area.
Heating is more economical thanks to the use of gas; it is enough to install 1 large cylinder, which usually lasts for quite a long time. Typically, 0.5 liters of gas are wasted with a gas gun power of 10–12 kW. And if you use a valve to reduce the gas supply, it may last for a longer time.
There is also a negative aspect of using this model:
- The gas burns oxygen in the room quite intensively;
- In addition, prolonged burning will contribute to the accumulation of combustion products, which can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning;
- The garage must have good ventilation or a gas gun must be used periodically with regular ventilation of the garage.
The very first start of the gas gun should be checked to ensure that all elements are connected thoroughly to avoid gas leakage. The first start is best done outside or with the garage door open, this is necessary so that the factory grease burns out.
Criterias of choice
Heat guns
The direct responsibilities of heat guns include heating both residential and industrial premises. This means that the device is not always necessary to satisfy only a person’s needs for a comfortable temperature. Many technical facilities require maintaining temperature to preserve goods or carrying out certain work.
Based on this, it becomes clear that choosing this unit is a very important process that must be approached with all responsibility and care, and such an impressive number of different models only complicates the task. Therefore, in order to be guaranteed to choose a worthy model, you need to adhere to the following criteria and selection rules:
Heat gun
If a heat gun with direct heating is used, then when the tool is operating, there should be no people in the room without special protective equipment. Indeed, during the working process, hot air and gaseous combustion products (smoke, fuel vapor, and so on) are released into the atmosphere. Being without adequate protection puts your respiratory tract, eyes and other exposed areas of the body at risk.

Kinds
The entire range of heat guns is usually divided into classes depending on what type of energy carrier is used to produce warm air flow.
Among them, the following important varieties can be distinguished.
Electric heat guns.
It is worth considering an important fact: depending on the power, electric heat guns can be connected to two-phase and three-phase electricity systems. Therefore, when choosing a device of this type, it is necessary to take into account the electrical wiring with which the room is equipped.
Gas heat gun.
To obtain heat flow, natural gas is used, which completely burns out in a heat gun. It is recommended to use this type of units only in non-residential premises.
Diesel heat gun.
The name of this type of device indicates that diesel fuel is used to generate heat.
As a rule, a unit of this type is used for production purposes.
Water heat gun. A distinctive feature of units of this type is that the heating element is designed in the form of a heat exchanger through which hot water flows.
Infrared heat gun.
The design of this device does not include a fan.
Air heating occurs based on infrared radiation.
It is also worth knowing that a heat gun of this type can only heat a certain area of the room.
Explosion-proof heat gun. This type of units, as a rule, is used to heat rooms with a high concentration of flammable mixtures, in other words, these can be transport hangars, as well as warehouses for fuels and lubricants.
Description of species
Direct heating
The direct acting unit operates according to the following scheme:
- the user pours diesel fuel or purified kerosene into the container, turns on the unit and sets the desired air heating parameters;
- the fan starts, as well as the fuel module; after this, diesel fuel begins to flow from the tank to the nozzles, where it is mixed with air;
- in the form of a fine dispersive mist, the warm air mixture enters the internal combustion chamber and is ignited using an electric glow plug;
- the photocell of the electrical circuit detects the ignition of the fire and after a few seconds the controller turns off the electrodes for the igniter;
- the main volume of the air mixture seems to wash the walls of the chamber from the outside, after which the heated air from the barrel of the gun comes out; at this point, a smaller portion of the total air volume is burned and emitted as exhaust gases.
If the burner goes out, for example, after the liquid fuel runs out, the photosensor is triggered again and sends a command to the control unit. After this, the latter immediately stops the pump, and after 15–20 seconds the equipment turns off. The combustion may turn off spontaneously if the thermostat detects the heating of the surrounding space to the desired level. Once the room has cooled down, the burner will resume operation.
However, along with the heat, soot enters the room, as well as an unpleasant odor. That is why the scope of use of such devices is limited to open areas where people are very rare.
Indirect heating
This design involves a closed combustion chamber, as well as a chimney, which will allow exhaust with spent fuel to be removed beyond the boundaries of the heated space. Fan heaters of this group have a slightly different principle of operation, namely:
- the combustion chamber is covered on all sides, the fireproof plate is hermetically fixed and, in fact, becomes the front panel of the firebox
- the air is heated exclusively by the outer wall of the chamber;
- all combustion products are discharged outside through the upper pipe;
- The heat gun must be connected to the chimney pipe.
The removal of waste gaseous substances allows this unit to be used for heating closed rooms with poor ventilation
However, we draw your attention to the fact that it is still not worth heating residential areas with such a gun, since they do not have a draft sensor, as well as automation that can protect people from fumes. The efficiency of indirect heating units is slightly lower, it does not exceed 60%, but they can be used in greenhouses, as well as on livestock farms
Types of diesel heaters
Heat guns running on diesel fuel are represented in two large categories - direct and indirect heating devices. Let's see how the presented varieties differ from each other.
Direct heating heat guns
A direct heating diesel gun is the simplest source of thermal energy. It is equipped with a completely open combustion chamber. Its heart is a pump with a nozzle, which generates a torch. There is a powerful fan behind it. The generated heat, along with combustion products, is sent to the heated room. That is, there is no separate chimney here, which is a big disadvantage.
A direct heating heat gun is harmful to human health, so its operation in an unventilated area is prohibited (despite the almost complete combustion of diesel fuel). And even where there is good ventilation, people will be constantly haunted by the smell of burning - there is no escape from it. Such units are most often used in open areas where there is a flow of fresh air.
There are craftsmen who manage to convert direct-type guns into indirect-type units, which will be discussed later - they are safer.
Heat guns of indirect heating
Standing next to a direct-fired diesel heat gun is like smelling smoke from the tailpipe of a truck. Staying in a heated room for a long time can lead to severe headaches and poisoning. Therefore, such units are used relatively rarely. But they came up with an excellent alternative.
A diesel indirect heating heat gun is a more advanced and advanced device. In some ways it resembles a liquid fuel heating boiler. Only it does not heat the coolant, but the air. The basis of such a heat gun is the same nozzle - it is placed in a closed combustion chamber, equipped with a combustion product exhaust system (in other words, a chimney). The rest of the design is the same.
Due to the removal of combustion products to the outside, such units can be used to heat unventilated rooms. The pressurized air in these guns does not come into contact with the burning torch - it, as it were, blows over the combustion chamber. As for burning and soot, they go into the connected chimney and do not enter the premises. Thanks to this, indirectly heated diesel heat guns can be used in almost any conditions.
Despite the presence of exhaust of combustion products outside, for the operation of indirect (indirect) heating units, at least some kind of ventilation is still needed - oxygen for the operation of the burner is taken directly from the room.
Operating principle
A heat gun running on diesel fuel is a heating device, the main function of which is to heat both residential buildings and premises such as production workshops, warehouses, hangars, garages, greenhouses, etc. in the shortest possible time.
The operating principle of such a heat gun is simple. It is based on the combustion of diesel fuel, and the heat generated as a result of this process is directed into the room by a powerful air flow. The fan is responsible for pumping warm air masses into the space.
The design of the device includes a tank into which fuel is poured. There is also a filter through which the mixture passes before entering the container, from where it is pumped for further use.
A distinctive feature of a heat gun is that such equipment is energy-dependent.
For normal operation of units with low power ratings, a voltage of 12 W or 24 W is sufficient. But still, most of the models produced need to be connected to a 220 W network. Electrical energy is necessary for the operation of the burner and for pumping heated air masses into heated rooms (it drives the fan).
The operating principle of the burner of any diesel fuel heat gun is as follows: it sprays diesel fuel and at the same time provides air supply. As a result, a mixture of fuel and air is formed, which ignites and creates a hot flame. The end result is the generation of heat, which, as already noted, is supplied to the room by means of a fan.
Well-known manufacturers of electric heat guns
Thermal power table.
Swedish electric heat guns have proven themselves well. Not only heat guns, but also heat curtains and infrared heaters from this manufacturer are distinguished by their reliability, durability and economical consumption of electricity. Frico electric heat guns are presented on the market in two series: Tiger and Finnwik.
Devices of the “Tiger” series have a built-in thermostat that regulates the operation of the fan, and there is the necessary protection against overheating. Models in this series have a durable body and the ability to mount on a wall.
The Finnwik series devices are distinguished by their particularly robust frame design and compact dimensions. They can also be attached to the wall for more efficient and faster heating of the room.
Teplomash is another well-known manufacturer of electric heat guns. Each series of these devices is designed for a specific type of room. The range of models is wide and varied: from heating a small warehouse or basement to a large production workshop. But, despite such diversity, all models have one thing in common:
attractive modern design; the body is made of high-quality steel and covered with a reliable polymer coating that protects the metal from corrosion; Teplomash heat guns are characterized by almost silent operation
The installed motor ensures the longevity of the device; room heating range from +5°C to +40°C; Much attention is paid to the safety of the device. Automatic emergency shutdown is installed.
“Tropic” - electric guns from this manufacturer are fully adapted for Russian power grids and the Russian climate, therefore they are very popular among consumers.
A high-quality polymer coating will protect the device from scratches and mechanical damage. The internal structure of the guns has been carefully thought out; all parts are made in Europe. The built-in protection system of the device will protect against any surprises.
The one-piece stamped impeller fan provides powerful air flow. The control has several operating modes; a bimetallic thermostat protects the device from overheating.
Start-up and safe operation rules
Typically, devices are supplied partially disassembled. That is, you will need to fix the “barrel” of the gun on a wheeled cart and install a handle (or metal arches). If we are talking about a direct heating gun, then all that remains is to fill the fuel tank, connect the device to the power supply, set the heating temperature and press the power switch.
Thanks to the built-in thermostat, the gun will automatically stop working when the air warms up and turn on again when the temperature drops - this way the device saves fuel and eliminates the possibility of overheating
To start up the equipment, make sure that the following safety rules are observed:
- The gun is installed on a stable and level horizontal surface made of non-combustible materials, such as concrete. If the floor is wooden, you can place sheet metal under the unit.
- The distance from the nozzle from which the hot air flow will flow to the nearest object is at least 2 meters (it is advisable to maintain a distance of 80-100 cm on the right and left).
- Before the first start-up or after long-term storage, it is recommended to open the housing and manually turn the fan impeller to make sure that it rotates freely.
- The device will “signal” the need for refueling by intermittent combustion or the release of white smoke. To add fuel, be sure to disconnect the gun from the power supply.
- Always turn off the gun with the toggle switch and wait until the fan stops completely. For indirect heating devices, this process may take 2-5 minutes, but it is necessary to cool the combustion chamber. Only after this can you unplug the device from the network.
To start an indirect heating diesel gun, you must first install a chimney - a round pipe made of non-combustible material with a maximum length of 3 meters. If you need output over a long distance, it is convenient to use flexible aluminum corrugation for this purpose, but it will have to be changed several times during the heating season.
To remove it into a nearby ventilation, you can find a piece of steel pipe that will last much longer.
The chimney path for an indirect heating gun must be laid in a straight line, with a maximum of only one bend of up to 90 degrees allowed.
As for maintenance, for trouble-free operation of diesel heat generators, you will need to periodically wash the air filters and clean the combustion chamber of soot/dust. It is also important to keep the internal walls of the unit clean in the area of the injector and engine.
Electric gun. How to choose a 220V electric heat gun for your home, cottage and garage
When you need to quickly warm up a garage or large room, you need to use equipment whose power exceeds the power of a conventional heater. And this is where electric heat guns come to the rescue. This equipment can operate from a 220V and 380V network. More powerful devices are used in production. Today we are interested in 220V household models.
What are 220 V electric heat guns?
The device is a heating device that can warm up a room very quickly. A heat gun belongs to the group of fan heaters, but differs from them in its high power and performance. The power of the heat gun can be from 2 to 50 kW. Devices whose power does not exceed 5 kW can be powered from a regular 220 V network.
Why is it needed and where is it used?
The scope of use of heat guns is very diverse. They can be used to quickly warm up a car, heat a garage, a summer house, a greenhouse, or a cold unheated room. This unit is also often used for drying suspended ceilings in construction.
How it works: device and principle of operation
Almost all electric heat guns have the same design, the only difference is their shape and size.
The device consists of the following elements:
- metal case,
- a heating element,
- powerful fan,
- thermostat (overheating protection),
- thermostat (sets the temperature regime),
- air filter (available on some models),
- protective grille.
The operating principle of the device is as follows:
- When connected to the network, the heating element heats up.
- Cold air enters through an opening in the housing.
- The air warms up and a powerful fan directs it into the room.
The device has advantages and disadvantages characteristic of this type of equipment.
Advantages
- Affordable price.
- Light weight.
- Quick heating of the room.
- Easy to use.
- Can work for a long time.
- Does not require additional fuel.
- Safe device (does not emit unpleasant odors, no open flame during operation).
Flaws
- Dependence on electricity (some models can be connected to a diesel generator).
- Of all types of fuel, electricity is the most expensive.
- They make a lot of noise during operation.
How to choose equipment?
To choose a suitable device, you need to know some parameters: power consumption, performance, size, noiselessness.
Calculation of the minimum required power
To calculate the power of an electric heat gun, the following formula is used:
P = V*T*K, where
- V is the volume of the room (it can be found by multiplying the area by the height), m3;
- T - indicator of the difference between external and internal air temperatures, oC;
- K is the coefficient of thermal conductivity, it depends on the type of insulation of the room: 3-4 - for simple metal and wooden non-insulated structures;
- 2-2.9 - buildings with simple single brickwork and a simple roof and window structure;
- 1-1.9 - buildings with double brickwork, a small number of windows, average thermal insulation;
- 0.6-0.9 - buildings with double thermal insulation, insulated windows, walls and roof.
Let's take this example. We need to choose a heat gun for a garage with good insulation, an area of 24 m2, with a ceiling height of 3 m. The volume will be -24 * 3 = 72 m3. Temperature outside -(-20oC), indoors - +15oC. Temperature difference -35°C. The calculations will look like this:
P = 72*35*1 = 2520 kcal/hour.
To convert this value into kilowatts, you need to divide it by 860, since 1 kW = 860 kcal/hour.
2520: 860 = 2.93 kW.
This means that the power of the heat gun we need must be at least 3 kW, and if we take it with a power reserve, then at least 3.5 kW.
Shape and size
Electric heat guns are distinguished by their modest dimensions - their weight ranges from 3 to 30 kg. It is a mobile device that can be moved from place to place.
The shape of the device can be cylindrical or rectangular. In the first option, thermal energy is distributed over a larger area, so it is more suitable for indoor work.
Rectangular shapes have special mesh heaters and are more suitable for spot heating.
Duration of work
Most models have a long operating mode. They can work for a long time without stopping. The technical specifications usually indicate the following value: 24/1 or 24/2.
This means that the break in the operation of the device is 1 or 2 hours a day.
Selection of liquid fuel heat generator
The first step is to determine the thermal power of the device. There are nuances here: the gun cannot be calculated using traditional methods, since the unit is often used to heat large volumes and rooms without proper insulation. The following methodology is proposed:
- Measure and calculate the volume of the heated room V, m³;
- Find out the difference in temperatures outside and inside during the coldest period Δt, °C;
- Determine the dimensionless heat loss coefficient k of the building and calculate the heater power Q using the formula below.
Recommendation. The value of the coefficient k depends on the type and degree of thermal insulation of the building. For a metal hangar, garage k = 4, wooden shed - 3, brick country house - 2...2.9 (depending on the thickness of the walls). If the structure is well insulated, take a coefficient of 0.6-0.8, with average thermal insulation - 1...1.9.
Example. Let's calculate the thermal power of a solar gun for an uninsulated iron box 10 x 5 m with a ceiling height of 3 meters, the volume of the room is V = 10 x 5 x 3 = 150 m³. Let’s take the outside temperature to be minus 25 degrees, the inside temperature to be plus 10 °C, the difference Δt = 35 °C. How much heat is needed: Q = 150 x 35 x 4 / 860 = 24.4 kW.
When heating with powerful guns, air is supplied through several hoses and evenly distributed throughout the workshop
How to choose the right gun for operating conditions:
- A direct heating device is suitable for heating industrial premises, indoor construction sites, hangars and warehouses. If people constantly work in the building, supply ventilation is required!
- It is better to buy and install chimney thermal guns in private garages, car service stations, greenhouses, stables and other outbuildings.
- Infrared heating devices are great for any local heating. Example: a production workshop with high ceilings or an open area where it is not possible to heat the entire volume of air, but a limited area is quite possible.
- Use the heating installation selection algorithm presented in the table:
If you need to heat an entire small industrial facility, pay attention to outdoor versions of high-power guns. The installation is placed outside the building, and several air ducts are laid inside for the best distribution of flows, as done above in the photo.
How to use fan heaters correctly?
Heaters of this type during operation require compliance with fire safety rules, which significantly reduces the risk of fire hazards.
In the case of using heat guns powered by electricity, as mentioned earlier, it is necessary to check the functionality of the electrical wiring. After all, even minor damage to the wiring can cause a fire, endangering both the motorist and his property - movable and immovable.
It's no secret that one of the causes of all fires in garages is improper operation of the heater. Therefore, before purchasing a heater, you need to consult with the seller about which unit is suitable for heating a specific room with specific conditions in it.
Diagram of operation of a diesel heat gun.
In addition, there is an unspoken list of rules that allows you to minimize the risks of fire hazards:
- After purchasing a heater, it must “get used” to the indoor climate. Let it sit for at least 2 hours before turning it on.
- If we are talking about a diesel gun of indirect or direct heating, then before its main use in a garage or workshop, it is better to turn it on and test it in the open air. Such equipment is lubricated at the factory with its own oils, which, upon first start-up, burn, giving off a not very pleasant “aroma”. And by launching a cannon outdoors for the first time, it is possible to eliminate smoke in the room.
- If you purchase an electric model of a fan heater, before using it, you must check it for the presence of condensation on the heating element. In addition, you should definitely check the grounding of the garage wiring.
- Guns that operate using waste oil are checked for the presence of foreign objects in the tank before being filled with fuel.
- If the heater implies the presence of a chimney, then it makes sense to check for good draft in the system.
- When connecting gas fan heaters, it is worth checking all connections for leaks. Otherwise, the first exploitation may become the last with dire consequences.
- Regardless of the type of heat gun chosen, the unit must be installed on a flat surface. The distance from the outlet nozzle to the wall or other interior items in the room must be at least 3 meters. There should be at least 50 cm of free space on the side of the gun, and 150 cm on top. This thorough approach ensures good inflow/outflow of air masses.
Features of repair of diesel guns for space heating
Repair maintenance for a diesel fuel-powered installation can cost a significant amount. Just one diagnostic procedure costs about 1000 rubles. For this reason, many owners of garages and warehouses resort to self-repair of structures.
How to repair a diesel heat gun yourself
If warm air does not move, the fan motor may be faulty. Repair involves cleaning the terminals, checking the winding on the motor (an analog tester is suitable for this), as well as insulation. Sometimes the damage is so serious that superficial adjustments are not enough. In such cases, there is only one thing left - replacing the engine.
An important design detail is the nozzles. The quality of operation of these elements depends on the full functioning of the entire heating system. These parts rarely break, and new elements to replace failed ones can be bought at any store.
These parts rarely break, and new elements to replace failed ones can be bought at any store.
Modern heat guns are equipped with a convenient control panel that allows you to adjust the air heating temperature
Much more often, the need to repair a diesel gun arises due to a clogged filter. To eliminate this breakdown, simply open the housing of the structure, unscrew the plug and remove the contaminated element. After washing with clean kerosene, the filter is ready for further use. Before installing this part in place, it is advisable to blow it out with a jet of compressed air.
How to choose a diesel heat gun
The choice of a diesel heater is based on its operating conditions. In other words, it can be a large construction site or a food warehouse, a garage or a living space, where it is necessary to ensure not only high-quality heating, but also cleanliness of the surrounding air. For this reason, the selection criteria below are taken into account.
Heating method
- Directly heated options. They are characterized by high efficiency, almost reaching 100%. The power is 10-220 kW, and the outlet air temperature is up to 400 degrees. A distinctive feature is the absence of a chimney, and as a result, combustion products spread into the surrounding space. They are used only for heating non-residential objects and require a high-quality ventilation system.
- Devices with indirect (indirect) heating. The efficiency of such models is about 60%, and the maximum power reaches 85 kW. The reason for this is the closed combustion chamber. In addition, the design is equipped with a chimney, which allows the combustion products to be removed outside the heated room. There are multi-module models capable of delivering up to 220 kW of thermal power.
Heating power
The more powerful the device, the larger the area it can heat to a given temperature. That is, everything depends on the room, as well as on the difference between the air temperature at the moment and its planned value. Heat loss plays an important role. For example, to heat a room with an area of 300 square meters in a new building, a device with a power of 10 kW will be required, and for an old room of the same area - at least 20 kW. For a glass greenhouse of 300 sq.m. with single-layer foil you will have to buy equipment with a power of at least 80 kW. All these data are valid if the temperature difference is no more than 30 degrees, and calculations are carried out using a formula specially created for these purposes.
Thermal insulation quality
The device body must have high-quality thermal insulation to prevent excessive heating, preventing deformation and breakage. This is also an important point in fire safety. For this reason, the case should not heat above 40 degrees.
Mobility
As the weight of the heat gun increases, the inconvenience of moving it around the object increases. Therefore, light models should be equipped with a handle for carrying, and heavier ones with a wheelbase for transportation.
Attention is paid to the strength of the frame and the quality of the pallet
Heating temperature adjustment
The presence of this function will allow you to independently program the device to warm up the room to a given temperature, or rather its rheostat. For these purposes, a corresponding button or knob is installed on the control unit.
Battery support
The heated air is blown out by a fan, which is powered by electricity. In most cases, we are talking about a 220 V household network, but some models support battery power. The latter option is autonomous, as it allows you to operate the device in field conditions. Low energy consumption, which rarely reaches 500 Wh, ensures continuous operation for several hours.
This nuance is clarified with the manufacturer, seller, or indicated in the passport for the diesel gun. Using unsuitable fuel will lead to rapid breakdown of the unit. Most models require automotive “winter” diesel fuel that complies with GOST 305-82, or aviation (clarified) kerosene.
Additional systems
Manufacturers equip heat guns with various protection and control systems; when purchasing, be sure to ensure the following:
- automatic control of heating level;
- automatic shutdown when there is insufficient fuel;
- overheat protection.
There are manufacturers on the market that offer the installation of these options for an additional fee, or sell them as individual devices, which should be taken into account when choosing a diesel gun.

Types of heat guns, their features, advantages and disadvantages
Fan heaters are among the most efficient devices used to heat rooms of any configuration and area due to directed hot air. The efficiency of any type of heat gun is almost 100%.
Heat gun device.
Today, the market for such equipment offers potential consumers the following types of heat guns:
- Electric fan heaters. They operate when connected to a household power supply.
- Diesel heat guns are also used to heat the garage. The principle of operation of such equipment is to burn fuel in a combustion chamber and then heat the air flow.
- Gas. They work on the same principle as diesel heat guns. The only difference is the type of fuel, and gas is cheaper than diesel fuel.
Each type of fan heater has its own specifics, advantages and disadvantages. We will talk about this further.
Electrical
This type of fan heaters is characterized by the following advantages:
- small overall dimensions, thanks to which the unit can be installed in almost any room, of any configuration;
- full autonomous control;
- low noise level during operation;
- a fairly high level of fire safety.
This approach allows you to make sure that it can withstand the load that the fan heater gives.
Diesel
Direct and indirect heating design.
Diesel heat guns come in two types depending on the specific heating: direct and indirect. In the first case, the room is heated by heated air masses containing fuel combustion products.
In order to ensure the safe stay of the car owner in the garage, the presence of such a heating system in the room requires an additional device of high-quality ventilation, which allows for a timely flow of fresh air into the building and the removal of already “spent” air masses.
As for the second option of diesel fan heaters, they warm up the room with an air flow that has already been previously cleared of combustion products.
Advice! When choosing a fan heater for your garage, be sure to calculate all the options, taking into account the cubic capacity of the room, and think through the design of the ventilation system in order to remove combustion products from the room.
Without a doubt, indirect heating heat guns are many times better than their counterparts with the direct method of heating air masses, because in this case the risks of smoke in the entire structure are very small.
Experts include the following characteristics as the main advantages of diesel fan heaters:
- saving diesel fuel consumption;
- Fan heaters of this class can operate for up to 24 hours on one refill - the operating time without refueling depends on the volume of the fuel tank and the model of the unit;
- quick heating of the room, regardless of its cubic capacity and configuration.
Among the disadvantages:
- the presence of the smell of combustion products - it is quickly absorbed into all surfaces of the structure, leaving an unpleasant “amber” even after turning off the heating equipment;
- the price of diesel fuel - of course, it is cheaper than electricity, but at the same time, more expensive than other types of liquid fuel, for example, diesel fuel.
Gas
Scheme of operation of a gas gun for heating.
Unlike the previous type of fan heaters, gas-powered models have the following operational advantages:
- warms up the room many times faster;
- efficiency of the fuel itself and its consumption;
- the presence of a sensor that reads the concentration of carbon dioxide in the room;
- the presence of automation, which controls the overheating of the unit;
- such types of gas as propane and butane completely dissolve during the combustion process, leaving behind no combustion products - this means that there is no need to install an effective ventilation system in the garage; the ventilation that is available in the building will be sufficient.
As for the disadvantages, there is only one among the main ones - most of the models operate with a liquefied gas cylinder, which is not so easy to find on the market.
Advice! Heat guns will work great if you pay special attention to installing a high-quality ventilation system in the garage.
Advantages and disadvantages
Diesel heat gun AURORA DIESEL HEAT 50
Diesel heat guns are widely popular. This is due to the many positive aspects highlighted during the operation of these heating units. Let's note the main advantages:
- Small in size.
- Easy to use and maintain, in order to start the device mechanism, just press a button.
- The devices are highly economical. The amount of fuel consumed depends on the power of the heat gun. For example, with an air flow of 550 m³/hour, approximately 1.5 liters of fuel are consumed, and the power will be 20 kW. This amount of fuel will be enough to heat the garage.
- Capable of heating a room in the shortest possible time.
- They are safe to use. If the gun is installed in a room with good ventilation, then there will be no negative consequences in the form of a burning smell. It is also worth noting that if you touch the device while it is operating, there is no risk of burns, since the body heats up to a temperature of 30-35°C.
- Another important feature of a heat gun is that it can work for a long time without refueling.
Despite the considerable number of advantages of heat guns, such devices also have disadvantages:
- The operation of the devices is accompanied by noise.
- Heat guns are energy dependent; the device cannot function without electrical energy.
- If the appliance is operated continuously for a long time, you may smell diesel fuel.
- Since diesel heaters are mainly intended for heating industrial premises, the cost of such devices is high.
Appearance
This takes into account such nuances as aesthetic appeal, achieved through the use of two main shapes - rectangular and cylindrical, as well as high-quality paint and the dimensions of the unit. If the device is planned to be used exclusively for domestic purposes in a small room, then a compact heater weighing 5-10 kilograms with dimensions ranging from 25-50 centimeters is the best option. If there is a need to purchase a unit of greater power, then you should be prepared to transport equipment whose weight will be 50-150 kilograms with dimensions of 1-3 meters for each parameter.
