We loaded the laundry into the drum, started the washing program of your Ariston or Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine, but instead of uninterrupted operation, the abbreviation F01 or F1 is displayed on the display. If such a malfunction appears for the first time, then it is better to immediately seek professional help, because in the future this combination of letters will light up when you turn on any program on your device.
Sometimes such a malfunction may appear and then disappear. We strongly recommend that you seek professional help and have your device repaired! Otherwise, the moment will come when the machine will refuse to work at all, and then its repair may cost you a very large sum.
For models without a display, the error is displayed using light illumination:
- On the first machines produced, such a malfunction is indicated by the blinking of the indicator light responsible for starting the device. In addition, the program selection knob constantly rotates, does not select any program and does not stop, and the window lock button is constantly lit.
- The latest models that are not equipped with a display display this error by blinking the “Extra Rinse” program indicator light and blinking at very short intervals the “Lock” indicator light, which is responsible for locking the door.
- Hotpoint-Ariston Low-End models (ARSL, ARMXXL, ARXL, etc.) you can identify a breakdown, which will be displayed by flashing the “Lock” indication or by the indication of all auxiliary program buttons.
- Hotpoint-Ariston Aqualtis is notified of a breakdown by lighting indicator lights responsible for the temperature regime.
What does it mean
Code f1 or f01 of the Ariston washing machine (CMA) indicates a failure in the control circuit of the electric motor that rotates the drum. However, it is impossible to immediately determine why the engine does not respond to impulses from the control board.
On the other hand, this error does not mean that there is a need for urgent repairs. This conclusion can be made if the corresponding code permanently appears and disappears from the display screen.
You can recognize a malfunction of a similar nature on other Ariston models if you have minimal knowledge of signal indications, in particular:
- on a Hotpoint Ariston machine model AQSN, flashing of the temperature indicator may indicate a similar malfunction;
- Hotpoint Ariston washing machines from the LOW-END line will report an error by turning on the key indicator or horizontal lights;
- AVSL series devices will display an error when the “extra rinse” light comes on;
- outdated Ariston Margherita models give the F01 signal using the “Key” indicator light and periodic flashing “on”.
Interesting fact: in seed science there is such a thing as F1 seeds - this is when the seed of one variety is crossed with another and something new is obtained.
Different models of Ariston washing machines have a lot in common, but also improved ones.
But as for the F1 code, it means the same thing in almost all devices.
What does the code mean?
We managed to figure out the variants of the F01 code, now let’s decipher it. Error code F01, as well as F1, means a failure in the electrical circuit that controls the motor. A rather dry formulation that will not tell a layman about problems, absolutely nothing. If we begin to describe the error in more detail, we must say that the control module, sending signals to the engine, does not receive a response from it. This means that three situations are potentially possible:
- the control board itself has failed and therefore the commands it issues are incorrect;
- the engine has broken down, which means it is simply not able to respond to commands from the control board;
- The problem has occurred in the path between the engine and the control module (wiring or contacts).
At first glance, the decryption sounds quite scary, hinting at a serious breakdown, but in fact, everything can turn out to be much simpler, because this error often appears as a result of a local failure in the electronic module. You can fix such a failure in a few minutes with your own hands.
On 99% of Ariston family washing machines, code F01 is deciphered exactly the same. But, as you know, there are exceptions to every rule. So in our case, Ariston AD line has a slightly different self-diagnosis system, in which this error means a loss of communication between the electronic module and the control panel display module. In other words, this error indicates that the control module loses the ability to communicate with the control panel, from which the latter begins to “behave inappropriately.”
In fact, in the Ariston AD line washing machine, the error code F01 is, by decoding, a complete analogue of the F12 error, which is found on absolutely all other Ariston washing machine models.
Eliminating the reasons for the appearance of the code
Let's move on to the most difficult part - finding and eliminating the reasons why the F01 or F1 code appeared. Our experts recommend starting to sort through the possible causes of this error code, starting with the simplest ones, gradually moving on to the most complex ones (requiring disassembly of the SM).
First, you need to check the control module of the Ariston washing machine for a local failure. This is done very simply, we disconnect the power cord from 220V for 5-7 minutes, then turn it back on and try to start the “home assistant”. If rebooting doesn't do anything, try rebooting the machine a couple more times. In rare cases, a local failure can be resolved by two or even three reboots.
An indirect cause of malfunction of the Ariston washing machine motor may be too low voltage in the electrical network. In small towns and villages this happens all the time. The Ariston machine does not always respond to such a fall with error F01, but it’s worth checking, because problems with the electrical network can lead to very serious damage to the washing machine. In general, if problems with voltage drop occur frequently in your home, you need to purchase a voltage stabilizer for your washing machine and connect your “home assistant” to it, this will simply save her.
Next, you need to take a special device called a multimeter and check the integrity of the power cord, as well as the socket. Of course, there is little chance that this error appeared due to the power cord or socket, but they still exist, and it doesn’t hurt to check, especially since it’s quick. Once all the simple reasons have been swept aside, let's look inside.
- Somewhere in the room, if it is not possible to drag the washing machine into the garage or shed, we will free up some space so that nothing interferes with the repair and move the washing machine there.
- Let's take out the powder receptacle and put it aside.
- We unscrew the screws that hold the back wall of the Ariston washing machine.
- We remove the drive belt that is interfering with us.
- We take a photo of the location of the wires on the engine and remove them.
- We unscrew the engine mounts, then pull it off.
Having removed the motor, we must first check its brushes and then the windings. You will also need to look to see if there is a leak on the housing. We do the following:
- on the sides of the motor housing we find small screws that hold the brushes and unscrew them;
- we take out the brushes and inspect them; if at least one is worn out, we replace both;
- we install the multimeter probes on the winding and begin to systematically check the turns for breakdown;
- If everything is fine with the winding, check if there is a leak to the housing.
If you manage to detect a breakdown in the winding or a leak in the housing, feel free to throw out the engine, since the cost of repairing such a thing is comparable to the cost of a new part.
If the engine is in order, we begin to methodically check the wiring that powers the motor with a multimeter. We previously disconnected it. In this case, we recommend checking each transaction 2-3 times to avoid errors, otherwise you will have to start all over again.
Lastly, check the control board. For our part, we traditionally do not recommend tackling this part yourself, because if you do not have the appropriate qualifications, you can easily damage it, and this is a much more expensive repair with all the ensuing consequences. It would be much better to entrust this matter to a professional. You will ultimately save nerves, effort, time and possibly even money!
In conclusion, we note that if code F01 suddenly appears on your Ariston brand washing machine, do not panic. Read our article and hope that the control module remains intact. Happy renovation!

Causes
An analysis of the causes of the incident may indicate 3 possible options:
- The control board has failed.
- The motor is damaged.
- The malfunction occurred due to the wiring connecting the board to the engine or in the power supply chain.
In the first 2 cases, it is clear that repairs are needed. Regarding the third reason, there may be several explanations or versions:
- due to moisture, water has formed between the contacts of the connections of the electronic board and the motor;
- there is a short circuit in the engine control circuit;
- corrosion of drive motor connector contacts;
- problems with the connecting wire between the board and the motor.
F01 - fix it yourself
Sometimes the appearance of the F01 code is due to completely insignificant reasons that are easily solved by users with any level of technology proficiency. Before calling a technician, try the following:
- The standard advice from all support services when it comes to technology: the best solution to the problem is to reboot the system. It is possible that error f01 is displayed simply due to a failure in the control module or in the display systems. This situation occurs especially often in places with high humidity. In case of failures, turning off and on the power helps.
- Check the voltage. The error occurs if the mains voltage is below 200 volts.
- Check the cord, plug, socket. Damage to them often leads to an error code.
- Is the machine connected via an extension cord? Perhaps that's the problem. Extension cords sometimes underestimate the voltage. Try the outlet directly, another extension cord.
- If you are a little technical, look at the contacts from the motor to the control center. Perhaps the connection has just come off a little.
Have you done all of the above? The situation has not changed? This means it needs repairs.
How to fix a machine?
Error F01 may indicate serious damage:
- The control board has fallen off - parts that control the operation of the motor often burn out on this part. In a more serious situation, the processor may fail or the firmware may break.
- Wear on motor brushes - these parts do not break for any reason, they simply wear out over time. An experienced master can simply install new ones.
- Damage to the contacts connecting the electronic controller to the engine. If you have the desire and skill, you can check this yourself, but it is better for an experienced craftsman to restore or replace with new ones (depending on the level of damage).
- The worst case scenario is engine failure.
Our workshop specialists have encountered similar problems more than once. We will quickly and efficiently restore all burnt parts, repair broken elements or replace them with new ones.
We guarantee you work that will be done with high quality, in a short time.
Every model from this company has a similar error. As a rule, deciphering it is not difficult, but in a certain situation it is sometimes difficult to identify the malfunction that caused it. Let's try to figure out what error F01 means on an Ariston washing machine.
What to do
If the Ariston machine has generated an error code f01 by indicating or displaying the value f01, then initially it is necessary, to exclude the possibility of simple malfunctions, to perform the following steps:
- Disconnect the household appliance from the power supply. As a result of this, the previous mode will be reset, and the machine should start working. It happens that the cause of periodic failures of Ariston electronics, such as error f01, is high humidity in the room where it is located.
- Check the voltage in the network for surges. If it is determined that the voltage is less than 220 V, then you need to try to eliminate the interruptions or connect a voltage stabilizer.
- Examine the power cable from the outlet to the machine for possible damage, pinched areas, or failure of the connection plug. If found, the element must be replaced.
- Examine the connecting contacts between the motor and the board, because contacts may have come loose in the motor control circuit. If you have skills in working with electronics, you can check the circuit from the motor to the board yourself, ringing all areas that are in doubt.
If, after performing the described steps, error f1 on the Ariston washing machine continues to appear, then you need to continue studying, but this time the internal part. To do this, install the machine in the center of the room so that it can be approached from different sides, unscrew the back cover, disconnect the wires from the engine and remove it.
After this, you need to inspect the brushes, study the winding, and if there is no breakdown, then further actions concern studying the electronic board.
What is F1?
F1 is a problem with the motor responsible for rotating the drum, or rather, a malfunction of the control chain. The drum of the machine refuses to rotate because the motor does not pay attention to the orders sent by the control board.
Note! If your Ariston is an Ariston AD washing machine, this code means something completely different. Most often, there is a loss of connection between the control center and the display systems. In other models this is error F12.
F01 is usually associated with serious engine problems and indicates the need for major repairs. However, in some cases the problem can be easily resolved on your own.
The main causes of the error
Let's look at the more common options for error F01:
- moisture has entered the connecting contacts of the motor and controller,
- there is a short circuit in the electrical circuit connecting the engine and the block of the Ariston machine,
- Corrosion has formed on the motor contact,
- the problem lies in the connecting harness from the motor to the controller.
Sometimes error F01 appears periodically and signals that urgent repairs to the Ariston unit are required.
