Decoding error F17 (E17)
Error F17 (E17) means that the washing machine was unable to draw water within the allotted time. In reality, it looks like this: the machine is plugged in, the mode is selected, but water does not flow into the machine. It is worth considering that there is also no sound of water supply. Due to a prolonged lack of water, the system cannot start or continue the washing process.
On a Bosch washing machine without a display, the 800 or 1000 rpm indicator and plus the “Rinse” light will light (blink) simultaneously.
Error E17 - when you can fix it yourself
Don't be upset if your Bosch is stuck with code F17. In half of the cases, the problem can be fixed on your own.
Signs | What is the reason | How to fix |
The washing machine constantly draws and drains water, and then writes error E 17. The problem occurs in recently installed machines. | Self-draining of water from the tank . Due to incorrect connection of the drain, water leaves the tank by gravity, so the machine constantly takes in water. | Carefully read the instruction manual for your machine. The hose must rise above the water level in the tank when washing. |

What caused the malfunction
Let's consider the reasons that may cause a malfunction:
- Lack of water. You need to check if there is water in the tap. It is possible that the water supply has been turned off or is blocked.
- Shut-off valve closed. It is necessary to check the shut-off valve that shuts off the flow of water into the washing machine. It may not have been opened before the wash started. Water does not flow into the washing machine, which causes the error.
- The shut-off valve is not fully open. This results in a long time to collect water, which causes an error. The shut-off valve must be fully opened.
- Weak water supply. The washing machine does not have time to draw water and displays an error.
- Kinked, tangled or pinched inlet hose. This is an obstacle to the supply of water to the washing machine, which also causes error F17 (E17). It is necessary to straighten the hose for unimpeded flow of water.
- Clogged filter mesh. Often, the filter mesh, located at the point where the inlet hose is connected to the washing machine itself and protects it from small particles contained in tap water, becomes clogged. The washing machine will not draw water well and display this error. It is necessary to remove and clean the filter: put it in a solution of citric acid for several hours, and then put it back in place.
- Failure in the control unit. Quite often, failures occur in the control unit. It is necessary to unplug the washing machine for 15-20 minutes and then turn it on.
The above methods will help you troubleshoot the error yourself.
In all other cases, it is better to contact a specialist, since the breakdown occurred in the internal parts of the washing machine. See also -

How to clean the mesh filter
Let's look at a step-by-step method to fix the problem in the filter mesh. Blockage is the most common cause of error. You can get rid of the blockage in this way:
- turn off the power to the washing machine;
- close the water supply tap to the washing machine;
- unscrew the end of the hose that is attached to the machine itself;
- if there is water left in the hose, then it is necessary to prepare a container for this water;
- remove the mesh and rinse it thoroughly;
- screw the hose back;
- then unscrew the hose from where the water enters the washing machine;
- we get rid of dirt, if there is any, of course;
- screw the hose back.
So, if you turn on the machine and do not hear the sound of water being drawn for a long time, and error F17 appears on your display, this means that the water supply time has been exceeded. Let's look at the causes of the malfunction that require repair.
How to reset the error?
In order to reset the Bosch washing machine error, it is necessary to eliminate all factors that interfere with its normal functioning.
Most models can then be successfully started and turned on again; in other situations, the error will need to be reset.
In this case, the following steps will be required.
- Press and hold the Start/Pause button for a long time. Be sure to wait for the sound signal to appear or the indicators on the display to blink.
- You can also reset the error by reconfiguring the electronic module - this method is resorted to when the first one turned out to be ineffective. It must be borne in mind that different models of washing machines have different test modes, which are described in the instructions. By following the recommendations described in it, you can quickly get the device working.
Inlet valve faulty
In order to check the valve, you need to turn off the water and disconnect the washing machine from the electricity. Next, you need to prepare a container to drain the water and disconnect the hoses from the inlet valves. You need to unscrew two screws and remove the top panel. The next thing to do is remove the clamps and unscrew the fixing screw. Remove the valve and check if it is clogged. Perhaps there was some damage on it. Check everything and reinstall the valve. If everything goes well, then error F17 should disappear.
Error codes for Bosch washing machines
Any consumer can now find out error codes for Bosch washing machines Modern washing machines, like other household appliances, can not only do what they are designed for perfectly, but also take care of themselves. Most modern electrical appliances have a self-diagnosis system that shows the technician which component has failed. This system, or more precisely the error codes it produces, will be discussed in this article.
When something goes wrong and the washing machine stops working correctly, an error code appears on the display, which shows which system of the washing machine has failed. This is especially useful in cases where the same malfunction can be caused by several reasons, for example, if the machine does not heat the water, this may mean either a failure of the heaters or a failure of the control module. The self-diagnosis system helps us accurately determine the cause of the breakdown.
In addition, if you tell the technician the make of the car and the error code, this will be of great help in the subsequent diagnosis of the malfunction. Using this information, the repairman will be able to approximately determine the possible cause of the malfunction and grab the spare parts necessary for repair from the warehouse.
Below are some error codes for Bosch/Siemens washing machines
Error ® F01 - door is not closed
This error occurs if the washing machine door is not closed or is not closed tightly. Try opening and closing the car hatch again. Check whether the laundry loaded into the machine does not interfere with the closing of the hatch cover.
Error ® F02 - no water is supplied to the washing machine
Interruptions in the water supply to the washing machine can be caused by various reasons: the water supply tap is closed, insufficient pressure in the water supply tap to the washing machine, a clogged strainer in the washing machine hose.
Error ® F03 - water does not drain
This error appears if the washing machine has not drained the water from the tank within 10 minutes. There may be several reasons why error F03 appears: the water drainage pipes or hoses are clogged, the pump does not work, the electronics responsible for controlling the water drainage system in the washing machine are broken.
Error ® F04 - water leak
If a water leak is detected from the washing machine, it is necessary to check the tightness of the connections, pipes and hoses of the washing machine, identify and eliminate the cause of the leak.

Error ® F25 - aquasensor malfunction
An aquasensor is a sensor that determines the transparency of the water supplied to the machine. The appearance of error F25 can be caused by its breakdown or contamination. Often the malfunction can be caused by simple limescale deposited on the surface of the sensor. This error can also be caused by a malfunction of the pressure switch or water drainage system.
Error ® F26 - pressure sensor malfunction
Error F26 means a breakdown of the analog pressure sensor (pressostat). This error is critical. If it occurs, the washing program is stopped, water is removed from the tank, control processes and indication will be blocked. It is necessary to reset the error by turning the device off and on with the ON-OFF button, check the serviceability of the pressure sensor, as well as possible breaks in the connecting circuits.
Error ® F27 - incorrect calibration of the pressure sensor
Error F27 means that the pressure sensor is not configured correctly and is working according to the old values. It is necessary to check the pressure sensor (pressure switch) and wiring.
Error ® F28 - flow sensor malfunction
In case of error F28, the flow sensor produces an impossible value for the supply of water volume per unit of time. It is necessary to check the serviceability of this sensor, as well as the wiring.
Error ® F29 - no water passage detected in the flow sensor
This malfunction can be caused by a complex of reasons, both related to insufficient water supply to the washing machine (clogged pipes, pipes, filters, breakdown of the magnetic valve of the Aquastop system), and a malfunction of the sensor itself. If an error occurs, all water supply elements must be checked sequentially. If there is a certain amount of water in the machine, its drainage should begin 5 minutes after the error occurs.
Error ® F31 - maximum water level exceeded
Possible causes of the malfunction:
- the drain pump is blocked
- water drain hose blocked
- solenoid valve is faulty
- The pressure sensor (pressostat) is incorrectly configured or calibrated
- water removal system is blocked
The pressure switch is broken
A pressure switch is a pressure sensor that controls the amount of water in the tank. To get to the pressure switch, you need to remove the top cover of the machine. To check, you need to disconnect the clamps and hoses from it, insert a tube and blow into it. If there are no clicks, you must disconnect all connectors and remove the broken part. It cannot be repaired, so if you find the cause of the breakdown in it, then you need to replace the pressure switch with a new one.
Fill valve failure
The inlet valve is necessary for a controlled flow of water into the tank, adjusted at time intervals. Most of the time it remains closed. To check it, follow these steps:
- the top cover of the SMA is removed;
- the valve is removed;
- The resistance of the filler valve coil is measured using a multimeter;
- You can check the contacts of the intake valve wires.
To do this, the part is connected to the filler pipe, and a voltage of 220 V is applied to each of the coils in turn. If the valve is working properly, it will open, and after disconnecting from the power supply it will close tightly. In case of incorrect operation, the part must be replaced (instructions for replacing the CEN).
If the fill valve has opened, but after turning off the power, water flows, it means that the flexibility of the valve diaphragm has decreased or the stem spring has weakened due to wear. In this situation, the valve also changes completely.
Malfunction in the control module
The control module is one of the main parts of the washing machine, a kind of brain that gives commands to start washing, spinning or rinsing. If moisture gets in or a voltage drop occurs, some elements of the module may fail. To check the control board you need:
- turn off the power to the washing machine;
- remove the top panel (cover);
- take out the dispenser (powder tray);
- Unscrew all the screws holding the front panel.
- remove the front panel;
- disconnect the board from the front panel and inspect it.
Burnt-out capacitors, resistors, diodes, microcircuit tracks, oxidized contacts - all this can be replaced or soldered. If the microprocessor is faulty, the control module must be replaced.
