Principle of operation

As the name of the technology implies, quick removal of stains is achieved through the circulation of bubbles. Air bubbles that are in the water constantly pass through the laundry, affecting contaminated areas together with washing powder or liquid detergent.

This effect is similar to boiling, only boiling water spoils and significantly wears out the fabric, weakening its fibers.

Automatic machines

The main element of the machine is a tank into which water is poured and laundry is placed. Inside it is a stainless steel drum that produces rotational movements. Water is supplied to the machine through the filling hole. Along the way, it washes off the powder from a special tray and enters the tank.

In air bubble machines, after the water has entered the detergent tray, it goes down into the bubble generator located under the drum. There, water and detergent are mixed with air and fed into the drum through small holes in the form of cleaning solution, foam and air bubbles.

The bubbles penetrate the fabric, removing dirt and tackling even stubborn stains. Also, during washing, the bubbles burst, releasing heat, which creates a boiling effect. Washing is carried out in warm and cold water.

Activator machines

The main difference between these machines is vertical loading. At the very bottom of the drum there is a pulsator designed to create vortex flows of water. It creates ideal jets for washing.

Separate from the activator there is a nozzle that supplies bubbles into the drum. Air bubbles are evenly distributed throughout the drum by the activator.

Washing machine drum: perforated

The side surfaces of the drum, and sometimes its back wall, are covered with many small holes - perforations. Their sizes and locations may differ significantly from one manufacturer to another. The holes are necessary to allow the cleaning solution to enter the drum. At the same time, their presence contributes to faster wear of linen.

As the drum rotates, the items in it are subject to a centrifugal force, which presses the laundry against the walls and “presses” the fabric into the perforation holes. As a result, the fibers fray and the fabric deteriorates over time. It is not for nothing that hand washing is considered more gentle than machine washing. Fiber wear can be particularly severe when spinning at high speeds.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of washing machine models with an available air-bubble washing mode are:

Significant energy savings.
Saving detergents due to abundant foam formation.
High degree of stain removal, boiling effect.
Reduced washing time. At the same time, the result remains the same as with long programs of washing machines that are not equipped with an air bubble system.
Washing clothes becomes delicate thanks to the bubble pillow. It reduces the friction of the laundry against the walls of the drum and against each other.
Things are the same size after washing and do not shrink.
In activator type machines you can add and remove laundry during washing. You can also stop washing at any time.
The machine with the activator does not need to be connected to a water supply; just pour water into the tank.
Low noise level.

Flaws:

High requirements for water hardness. It should be as soft as possible.
Activator-type machines may not have a laundry spin mode or a drain function without spinning.
The cost of air bubble machines is higher than that of regular machines.

Washing machine drum: general information

The washing machine drum is a cylinder inside the tank. While tanks can be made from several materials, only sheet stainless steel is used for the drum.

One side of the drum has a hole through which laundry is loaded into it. A cross with a shaft is attached to the reverse side, which transmits rotation to the drum from the motor.

Inside the drum there are linings or ribs called strikers. They help stir the laundry during the washing process. The strikers can be straight or have various curved shapes. The latter is more preferable, since such shapes help to mix the laundry more evenly and redirect it to the center of the drum.

Drum striker

Often the loopholes are made hollow inside. Lowering as the drum rotates downwards, the striker collects soap solution, and when it rises, water pours out of it, providing the laundry with a shower effect.

How to choose?

The children brought a similar-looking machine, but they said that it had a thing in it that released air bubbles inside. This should make it wash even better.
