The washing that seemed to be going according to plan was suddenly interrupted: the Samsung washing machine stopped running with water and showed error 5E/E2 on the display. For many people, the number “5” on the washing machine screen resembles the English “S”, so quite often this error is also called SE. The error occurs during the washing or rinsing phase.
Attention! Don't confuse error 5E with E5. Code E5 is typical for older models of Samsung washing machines and means a problem with the heating circuit. Most often, the reason lies in a malfunction of the heating element.
In Samsung washing machine models without a display, error 5 E is reported by the following combination of LEDs: the temperature indicator is 40°C and all mode indicators are blinking .
Explanation of the error, its causes, briefly
Typically, a notification appears on the display at the moment when the machine has finished washing and should go into rinse mode. To do this, dirty water is poured out and the tank is filled with clean water. If there is a malfunction, the washing machine cannot remove waste liquid. This problem is indicated by code 5E, SE, 5C, E2 on different models.
The reasons are various:
- The most common is a clogged drain filter. The module becomes so clogged that water does not flow through it and does not enter the drain hose.
- The hose itself is clogged. Typically, debris - wool, hair, threads - accumulates at the junction of the siphon and filter with the hose. The blockage is not tight, but this is enough for the controller to signal an error.
- drain pump failure - if the pump is interrupted or broken, the device is repaired. If the pump is burnt out, it is replaced. When the pump contacts become loose, the display shows the same message.
Malfunction can be easily prevented if, before washing, remove keys and small change from pockets and fasten clothes with buttons.
Mechanical damage
If the pump impeller or filter, which is sometimes called the concentrator, breaks down, the required traction force does not occur. As a result, water is not pumped out of the tank, and an error appears.
This happens due to foreign objects entering the cochlea: pins, paper clips, toothpicks, coins, bolts and bra underwires. In this case, you need to replace the pump or filter. Repairing plastic parts is not possible.
As a summary: most of the reasons that lead to error code 5E, E2, 5C can be corrected yourself without calling a Samsung washing machine repair technician.
Solution algorithm, sequentially
Troubleshooting begins with diagnosis. They check the simplest elements that are easy to fix yourself.
When a Samsung washing machine issues the SE code and stops, the possibility of a leak is first warned. Turn off the device, open the hatch at the bottom, pull out the emergency drain hose and drain the water (detailed instructions). Things are taken out of the drum. Now you can look for the causes of the breakdown.
- They start with the most obvious. The water in the drain hose passes through a filter located at the bottom of the machine. Turn the filter unit screw half a turn, take it out and inspect it. If it is dirty, remove all debris, rinse under running water and install it back (how to clean the filter). Close the hatch and start the car again. If the cause of the breakdown is a clogged filter, the device turns on.
- Code 5E may indicate a clogged drain hose. You need to do the following: find the place of connection to the siphon or sewer pipe, loosen the clamps and unfasten the device. The end of it is lowered into the bathtub, simultaneously bending and unbending so that the mud plug pops out faster. Then clean the hose with water under high pressure. If a blockage occurs in the siphon, you should clean it manually.
Drain pump failure
It is better to entrust pump repair to a specialist. However, the cause of machine failure may not be damage to the device, but its contamination.
- The pump is pulled out, the bolts holding the housing together are unscrewed (how to remove and replace the pump).
- Clean the impeller and volute from wound threads, fluff, and wool.
- The pump is assembled and installed in place.
If the pump is faulty and cleaning does not help, contact a workshop. The part may need to be replaced.
How to find and fix the problem
What to do if error 5e appears in a Samsung washing machine? First, manually drain the water from the drum. The emergency drain procedure is described in detail in the instructions for the equipment. After this, remove the unrinsed laundry. Now we begin to look for the reason why the problem could appear and take action:
- The error appears due to a software glitch. To eliminate this, we try to unplug the unit from the outlet for 15 minutes, and then connect it. The glitch should go away.
- If the filter is clogged, you can remove it and wash it yourself. First, open the small hatch on the machine - most often it is located in the lower right corner of the body. You should first place a rag under the bottom so as not to flood the floor. Having opened the hatch, carefully unscrew the filter itself, rotating it counterclockwise. All that remains to be done is to rinse it and put it back in its original place.
- A clogged siphon or its connection with the drain hose is easy to check. We disconnect the hose, lower it into an empty bucket or other container and recheck the machine to see if it can drain the water.
To do this, just start the wash, wait until the drum is filled with water and immediately authorize draining. If it works, the reason has been found, we disassemble and clean the siphon. - The blockage inside the hose itself is also easy to check yourself. First, we check it for kinks and pinches, then try to disconnect it and manually let water through it. Difficulties arise due to the hose being too long. When such hoses are deliberately lengthened due to a distant drain location, blockages are more common.
- The contacts on the drain pump may have come loose. Then you need to carefully check if there are any disconnected wires. They move away due to shocks, for example, after transporting the device.
In other cases, a breakdown occurs. It is not recommended to do anything on your own - all that remains is to send the equipment for repair.

Samsung Galaxy S10e review: smaller is not worse
This year, Samsung released not 2, but 3 flagships at once, and the smallest model, the Galaxy S10e, was added to the traditional “smaller” and “larger” models. The Internet immediately drew parallels with the iPhone Xr. The approach seemed closer to the Sony Xperia Compact line, but without such radical compactness. We recently visited the senior representative of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S10+ line, and now it’s time for the “junior” Galaxy S10e. But don’t let its position in the lineup confuse you: there are minimal compromises in terms of functionality, and its compact size and more humane price tag will be an advantage for some compared to the Galaxy S10 and S10+. The smartphone is very interesting and there is something to tell about it.
What is this?
Samsung Galaxy S10e is a flagship Android smartphone with a Dynamic AMOLED 5.8-inch FullHD+ flat screen, a new flagship Samsung Exynos processor, 6 GB of RAM, a dual main camera, an in-screen front camera, dust and moisture protection, and wireless charging.
How is it interesting and how is it different from the Galaxy S10/S10+?
Unlike its two older brothers, the Galaxy S10e has a “flat” screen (without side bends), it is smaller in size: 5.8 inches (versus 6.1 and 6.4 inches for the S10 and S10+). The resolution is lower, FullHD+ (2280x1080), but the display type is the same new Dynamic AMOLED with HDR10+ support and a cutout for the camera. Instead of three cameras, there are two on the back: they sacrificed the telephoto module for 2x zoom, but the ultra-wide-angle one remained in place. The main module is exactly the same as the older models: 12 megapixels, interchangeable aperture f/1.5-2.4, 1/2.55″, 1.4µm, Dual Pixel PDAF and optical stabilization. The camera can also shoot 4K HDR10+ video and Super Slow Motion 960 frames per second. The front camera is similar to the Galaxy S10: 10 MP, f/1.9, 1.22µm, Dual Pixel phase autofocus. Instead of a fingerprint scanner, the screen uses a “traditional” version, which is combined with the power button. The battery is smaller (which is logical): 3100 mAh. For comparison, the Galaxy S10+ has 4100 mAh, and the Galaxy S10 has 3400 mAh. But all the features remain in place: fast charging via cable and wireless charging, including reverse charging. Performance was not affected: inside there is the same flagship processor Exynos 9820 processor with a clock frequency of 2.73 GHz, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory. Plus a hybrid tray, in which you can put a MicroSD instead of a second SIM.
What does the Samsung Galaxy S10e look like?
Perhaps, let's skip the obvious design differences from its brothers in the line and focus on how interesting the smartphone is in itself. Nowadays it’s not so easy to find a flagship smartphone that is as compact as possible; users love large diagonals: it’s more comfortable to watch videos and play games. Against this background, the Samsung Galaxy S10e looks extremely interesting. Yes, 5.8 inches is an impressive diagonal, but thanks to the minimal frames and the “elongated” aspect ratio of the display, it turned out to be very small indeed. And convenient because of it.
The smartphone uses a traditional combination of glass and metal. The frames around the perimeter are very thin (the chin is slightly larger), the camera is located in a hole in the upper right corner of the screen, and above it there is only a thin slot for the earpiece. Another feature is a flat screen, which is unusual for Samsung flagships over the last couple of years. Although previously the company practiced releasing flagship versions with a flat and curved screen.
The metal frame around the perimeter of the case is familiar to us, but the power button is unusual. It is flat, oblong and slightly recessed. It houses a fingerprint scanner. The button itself is placed closer to the top of the case and this position is very popular with users who hold the smartphone with their right hand. The thumb fits comfortably on the power button, which can also be used to call up the curtain:
Further along the perimeter there are no surprises. On the top edge there is an additional microphone and a tray for SIM/MicroSD:
Standard hybrid tray, of course, with a rubber seal:
On the left are paired volume buttons and a button to call the Bixby assistant:
At the bottom there is USB Type-C, an external speaker, a conversation microphone and a 3.5 mm headphone jack:
The backdrop is glass, with curves around the perimeter. In addition to the “mainstream” black, white and “aquamarine”, they decided to release the smartphone in a bright “canary” yellow color. A calmer option came to us:
Main camera module with two lenses and flash (no heart rate sensor):
The Samsung Galaxy S10e turned out to be extremely easy to use thanks to its good shape and relatively small dimensions. You can easily handle it with one hand and easily stuff it into your jeans pocket. There is nothing new to say about the materials and assembly: everything is cool. Like older models, the Galaxy S10e is protected from water and dust according to the IP68 standard, in theory - immersion in water to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.
How good is the screen?
.
The smartphone has a 5.8-inch Infitity-O Dynamic AMOLED screen with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 2280x1080, pixel density - 438 ppi. Like older models, it supports HDR10+. Visually, there are no complaints about the screen: the picture is juicy, viewing angles are excellent. In the settings, everything is approximately the same: brightness, scale, font size, night mode, and so on:
Always On Display available:
There are different display options, color selection, and the ability to set a picture:
There are two display modes: natural and rich with the ability to manually adjust the RGB components:
Hardware measurements showed that the screen is quite a bit inferior to the older Galaxy S10+. In “Natural” mode, the maximum brightness was 344.569 cd/m2. The color gamut is close to sRGB, the bias towards cold shades is minimal:
In the “saturated” mode, the maximum brightness was 366.764 cd/m2, the color gamut is noticeably wider than sRGB, but the picture goes more noticeably into the “blue”:
Comparison with other models:
Device name | White field brightness, cd/m2 | Black field brightness, cd/m2 | Contrast |
Samsung Galaxy S10e | 366.764 | 0 | |
Samsung Galaxy S10+ | 397.816 | 0 | ∞ |
Huawei Mate 20 Pro | 424.663 | 0 | ∞ |
Sony Xperia XZ3 | 408.047 | 0 | ∞ |
Huawei P20 Pro | 415.876 | 0 | ∞ |
Meizu 16th | 432.107 | 0 | ∞ |
What about performance?
The performance is in no way inferior to its brothers in the line: Samsung installed the same flagship Exynos 9820 in the S10e, which includes two customized powerful Mongoose M4 cores with a maximum clock frequency of 2.73 GHz, two ARM Cortex-A75 up to 2.31 GHz and four energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 at 1.95 GHz, graphics - ARM Mali-G76 MP12. In general, there were no problems with heavy games. Only in PUBG Mobile at maximum graphics settings were occasional drops in FPS observed. Perhaps this is due to the fresh SoC and will be further optimized. There were no problems with applications or shell. Everything works very quickly:
The traditional Samsung Game Tools application is also available in the S10e:
In benchmarks, the smartphone demonstrates similar, and at times even slightly higher, results than we saw in the S10+, which is quite logical. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S10e is at the top of most synthetic tests at the moment:
Overheating is present under long-term peak loads, the system throttles up to 80% and the case heats up slightly. But I couldn’t load my smartphone so severely with everyday tasks or games:
The smartphone has 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of built-in memory, plus a slot for MicroSD. There is also an 8 and 256 GB version. Communications: Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, ANT+, NFC, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1. Supports global positioning systems GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo.
The fingerprint scanner is technologically standard, but is located in the power button. It is very good in itself: accurate and lightning fast. But its location will be convenient only for those who use the smartphone with their right hand. I use my left hand and constantly had the need to reach with my finger; in the usual, “natural” position of my hand, the index finger simply cannot reach. Facial recognition is purely formal. It exists, but it cannot be called safe. Samsung itself warns about this.
The sound is just as good as the Galaxy S10+: stereo sound through the main and earpiece speakers, a very impressive volume reserve and sound quality. It's the same with headphones.
The capacity of the built-in battery is 3100 mAh, which is quite normal for such a display. In practice, the autonomy is quite average: the Samsung Galaxy S10e lives from morning until late evening with very active use, with Wi-Fi, 4G always on, synchronization of a bunch of accounts, calls, instant messengers, photos and games. Supports 15W fast charging and wireless charging (including reverse charging for accessories).
What about the interface?
Like the Samsung Galaxy S10+, the S10e runs on Android 9 Pie with the new One UI version 1.1. We have already discussed it in detail in our review of the S10+. In short, the interface has undergone a significant visual transformation; it now has a general night mode, in which all menus and system applications use a black background. In addition to the visual difference, I think that the night mode has a slight impact on battery life (considering the AMOLED, in which the black pixels do not light up). Many menus move items toward the middle of the display for easy one-handed operation. The basic logic of the shell has not changed: desktops and application menus, plus options with only desktops and a simplified mode with large icons are available:
The application manager is a slightly expanded version of Android 9 Pie with a horizontal carousel of cards, where they added the ability to open applications in a smaller window, make them transparent or minimize them to a small icon (in addition to the two-window mode):
Edge panels are available, even despite the flat screen:
And a set of branded applications:
It all works well, quickly, conveniently. There were no critical bugs encountered during use.
How good are the cameras?
In the younger Samsung Galaxy S10e they decided to sacrifice the third camera, namely the telephoto module for zoom, but not critically (as it seems to me). The rear camera includes a 12-megapixel main module with a variable aperture of f/1.5-2.4, a viewing angle of 77°, a pixel size of 1.4 microns and optical stabilization, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module with a viewing angle of 123°, f/2.2. The second module lacks stabilization and autofocus. The camera can blur the background and take ultra-wide-angle photos. There is video recording in 4K 60 fps, HDR10+ and Super Slow Motion 960 frames per second in a resolution of 1280x720. Front camera 10 megapixels, f/1.9 with autofocus, variable angle (for yourself and company) and portrait mode.
The application is similar to older models: everything you need is on the main screen, modes can be switched by swiping left and right, there is auto-recognition of scenarios in the frame, auto-adjustment, tips for improving photos. The only difference is that the camera switch is not three-position, but two-position due to the lack of a zoom function:
During the day, the main module copes with its tasks perfectly, which is not surprising. In the evening and at night everything is fine, but noise and blur are present, and detail drops noticeably. That's not to say it's bad, but there are several competitors that do a better job at night photography:
The wide angle camera is very good and useful when there is enough light. In the evening, the lack of a stabilizer takes its toll and it’s quite difficult to take a clear photo:
When blurring the background, the camera sometimes “misses”, but this only applies to not the easiest scenes:
4K HDR Video:
Super Slow Motion:
Bottom line
Samsung Galaxy S10e is the smallest flagship in the line in terms of size and price, but not in terms of capabilities. And for a number of users, the compact size and very convenient shape will be more of a plus than a minus. The “junior” flagship was not cut down in the most important aspects, and this is very nice. The smartphone has an excellent screen, top-end hardware like its older brothers, an excellent metal and glass body with protection from dust and water, excellent sound and a very decent main camera, albeit a little less functional. True, in addition to the advantages, some disadvantages have also migrated from the older brothers: yes, the smartphone is significantly cheaper than the older brothers, but 25,000 UAH is still a very impressive amount and for it you can find a couple of models that are a little stronger in night photography. Although they won’t be able to boast such a convenient compact body.
6 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy S10e:
- very convenient compact case and stylish design;
- magnificent display;
- top performance;
- good main camera;
- high-quality sound in speakers and headphones;
- dust and moisture protection of the case.
2 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy S10e:
- high price;
- The main camera does not always cope well with night photography.

About music
The phone has desperately loud stereo speakers: the S10e screams at maximum volume so that I even flinched in surprise. I had to replace the melody about incoming SMS with a calmer ringtone. But you won’t miss the call even if you want to, that’s good.
It’s also nice that, despite the fashion for wireless headphones, the Galaxy S10e retained a 3.5 mm output. Therefore, if you prefer classics and use a wired headset, you should like the phone.
