Instructions for popular models of Polaris brand air humidifiers

Instructions for Polaris humidifiers

Polaris household air humidifiers are designed for use in residential premises, hotels, and cafes. The principle of operation is the formation of steam due to ultrasonic waves, which makes the equipment powerful and almost silent.

The operating rules are the same for all Polaris humidifiers. Maintenance is carried out only when the device is disconnected from the network. Before turning on the device for the first time, leave it in the room for 30 minutes.

Add water to the humidifier as follows:

  1. The water tank is removed from the base. Filling occurs in an inverted position.
  2. After unscrewing the cap and removing the filter, pour clean cold water (preferably filtered or distilled) into the tank.
  3. Before installing the tank on the base of the humidifier, check that it is not leaking.
  4. Place the water tank in place.

After being connected to the electrical network, the device is activated with the ON/OFF button and operating modes are set in accordance with the capabilities of a particular model.

Why is this necessary?

The percentage of moisture in residential premises should be at least 30% for adult healthy family members; for children, especially during periods of illness with a respiratory disease, the moisture content in the air should be maximally increased - up to 60-80%.

The issue becomes especially critical when there is a large contrast between the temperature of the room and the heating device, when due to the intensive transfer of thermal energy to the air, the level of moisture content in it is sharply reduced.

To regulate the level of moisture in residential premises, special household models of humidifiers are used; an example is the Polaris air humidifier, which uses ultrasonic steam atomization technology.

1805i

The model is equipped with a 5-liter water tank with a replaceable filter. With a flow rate of 350 ml/hour, you can not worry about refilling for quite a long time.

Functions:

  • “Empty tank” - automatically turns off the device if there is no water in the tank (the humidifier stops working while the corresponding icon is lit on the display);
  • regulation of humidity levels - allows you to maintain comfortable indoor conditions;
  • steam intensity - a 3-position switch will help you set the optimal steam jet supply;
  • “Warm steam” - heats the water before steaming, so that the air temperature in the room does not drop;
  • “Timer”—sets the operating time up to 12 hours (in 2-hour increments);
  • air ionizer - enriches the air with negative ions;
  • hygrometer - automatically measures the humidity level in the room and, when the set value is reached, switches the device to “sleep mode”.

Control buttons on the front panel and remote control allow you to turn the humidifier on/off and set the operating mode. All parameters are shown on the display.

For greater clarity, the description of setting the operating modes of the Polaris PUH 1805i air humidifier in the instructions is accompanied by pictures.

What is the quality of water?

Water becomes hard due to high sodium and calcium content. It may contain:

  • temporary, carbonate salts - those that form a sediment in the form of scale when heated;
  • permanent, non-carbonate salts - when heated, they release calcium carbonate and carbon dioxide.

Water quality can be divided into five types:

1. Tap water - tap water purified only from toxic elements. 2. Distilled - additionally purified from impurities. 3. Demineralized - also purified from carbonate salts, that is, much softer. 4. Artesian - goes through even more stages of purification. 5. Spring water is the purest natural water that does not require filtration.

Equipment

The humidifier comes in a cardboard box with full color printing. On the front side of the box, the manufacturer placed a photo of the device, the name of the model and a list of the main characteristics: top water fill technology, three steam speeds, air aromatization. Also on the front side of the box are the tank volume (5 liters) and the warranty period (2 years). The back side of the box is the same as the front side, the information on it is duplicated in English.

The left side edge of the box contains two photographs illustrating the air aromatization function and the top water fill technology; below are the technical characteristics of the device in four languages - Russian, English, Ukrainian and Kazakh.

On the right side of the box there is another full-length photograph of the humidifier with callouts explaining the design of the device: the location of the power button, water tank, steam diffuser and top cover.

On the bottom side of the box there is information about the manufacturer, importer, trademark owner and contacts of the organization-authorized representative of the manufacturer in the Russian Federation and Belarus.

The top cover of the box has a plastic carrying handle. The lid is also marked with the brand name, model name and a mention of top-fill technology.

Having opened the box, inside we found:

  • The humidifier itself is assembled
  • manual
  • warranty card

At first sight

The Polaris PUH 8105 TF humidifier is made of matte dark gray plastic that is pleasant to look and feel and is a vertical parallelepiped with rounded corners. The design of the device is simple and strict.

On the top edge of the humidifier there is a golden reservoir lid with holes for steam outlet and water filling. It closes the reservoir, which occupies most of the humidifier’s volume.

The reservoir does not have minimum and maximum water level marks, and the opaque body does not allow visual monitoring of its level. Inside the tank there is a tunnel for steam release, which ends with a removable tip that distributes steam horizontally. On the bottom side of the tank there is a spring valve for dispensing water entering the working tank of the humidifier. In front of the valve, inside the tank, there is a removable filter, which is a dozen and a half ceramic balls with a diameter of approximately 5-6 mm in a lattice plastic housing.

The tank rests on a base made of the same matte plastic. Visually, the base is separated from the tank by a silver belt; on its front side there is a single button to control the device.

The working tank of the device also has a device typical for humidifiers of this class: inside it there is a mechanical water level sensor, consisting of a float with a reed switch, and an ultrasonic emitter membrane.

Air enters the working container of the device through the ventilation hole on the left side of the base. The ventilation is combined with a retractable shelf on which a sponge for aromatic substances is placed.

At the bottom of the base there are four supports with rubber anti-slip pads and a nameplate with the serial number of the device, brief technical characteristics and manufacturer information.

The power cord coming out of the back of the base is long enough (140cm) to easily reach the nearest outlet, but there's nowhere to hide any excess cord.

Instructions

The 14-page instructions in A5 format included with the humidifier are written in three languages - Russian, Ukrainian and Kazakh. The brochure is printed on thick glossy paper, printed in black and white.

The instructions are preceded by brief general information about the need to maintain comfortable relative humidity and a call to carefully study these instructions before using the device.

The “General Information” section briefly lists the functions and capabilities of the humidifier (3 steam supply modes, top water fill without removing the lid, touch control panel, automatic shutdown when there is a lack of water, the ability to use aroma oils) and the main technical characteristics.

The chapter “General safety instructions” is somewhat longer. It says that the device is intended only for domestic use for its intended purpose indoors, it should be protected from direct sunlight, impacts from sharp corners, it should not be immersed in water, it should not be touched with wet hands and turned on near bathtubs and sinks and other containers filled with water.

The following are “Special Safety Instructions for this Appliance.” According to them, the humidifier should be kept at room temperature for 30 minutes before first use, used at a temperature of 5-40 ° C and a relative humidity not higher than 80%, installed on flat, stable surfaces at a sufficient distance from furniture and other objects. It must be disconnected from the mains during cleaning, when filling the water tank or when the tank is empty.

To fill the device, use clean, cold water with a temperature below 40 °C (distilled or filtered only). It is forbidden to add aromatic additives, oils, etc. to the water - odorants are added to a special capsule inside the device.

The following briefly describes how to fill the device and operate it. Since the humidifier is controlled by a single button, the volume of this section is small.

The chapter on device care and maintenance occupies a slightly larger volume, but these are fairly standard points for humidifiers of this type, and we will describe them in detail below.

The instructions contain a table of malfunctions and methods for eliminating them, as well as information on disposal of the device and certification for compliance with regulatory documents of the Russian Federation.

Control

The Polaris PUH 8105 TF humidifier is extremely easy to operate - the panel consists of a single touch button on the front side of the base of the device.

The humidifier is turned on by long pressing the button for 3-4 seconds. The device emits a quiet three-tone signal and starts working. The control button is illuminated with purple light - the minimum steam supply mode is turned on.

The steam supply speed is selected by briefly pressing the same button. The humidifier responds to pressing with a short sound signal and a change in the color of the button illumination. By successive clicks you can select the average speed (green color) or maximum speed (blue color).

To turn off the device, the control button must be pressed and held for several seconds.

In case of any problems (for example, if there is not enough water in the device’s tank), the humidifier lights up the control button in red.

Exploitation

Before first use, the manufacturer recommends keeping the device at room temperature for 30 minutes. After this, fill the humidifier with cold, clean water through the hole in the top cover. We performed these steps using filtered water (hardly anyone has distilled water coming from their tap in their kitchen).

We placed the humidifier according to the instructions: on a hard, flat surface, away from objects that are afraid of moisture (books, furniture, household appliances). When placing the device, it should be taken into account that the direction of the steam jet in this device is not adjustable - the humidifier diffuser does not rotate and the steam from it comes out upward and forward, towards the front panel. It will not be possible to direct the steam stream back and to the sides.

To avoid an unpleasant odor when turning on a new device, the manufacturer also recommends leaving the tank open for 12 hours in a cool place, but we did not notice any foreign odors when we turned on the device without ventilation.

Operating the device, as expected upon first acquaintance, turned out to be simple and predictable. The touch button that controls the humidifier has average sensitivity and responds quite comfortably to pressure. Turning on the device and switching modes is accompanied by a melodic sound signal - quite pleasant to the ear and not too loud. There is no option to turn off the sound signal.

When the power is reset, the humidifier does not turn on automatically - if the electricity in the apartment was briefly turned off during your absence, the humidifier will remain turned off.

The humidifier float turned out to be very sensitive. It is enough to move the device slightly so that the float signals to the electronics about the lack of water and the humidifier turns off and, as best it can, reports the problem, changing the color of the indication to red. To resume operation of the humidifier, you should unplug it and wait 15-20 seconds.

The humidifier does not have any indication of the water level in the tank, and to control the water level you need to lift the lid and look into the tank. The WaterwayPro top-fill technology, mentioned several times on the packaging, is a hole in the tank lid and involves filling the humidifier with a known volume of water when the tank is empty - otherwise there is a risk of it overflowing.

Care

To avoid the appearance of white deposits on the humidifier and objects surrounding it, the manufacturer recommends using only distilled or filtered water (this recommendation is repeated three times in the instructions), changing the water in the tank more often, and when using daily for 12 hours, cleaning the humidifier at least once once a week.

To clean the humidifier reservoir, it is recommended to use a solution of citric acid (25 g per 0.5 liters of hot water) or a weak solution of vinegar (two-thirds water to one-third 6% vinegar). The solution must be poured into the device, left for 15 minutes, drained and rinsed with cold water a couple of times.

After every 1000 liters of water, the device filter must be soaked in 6% vinegar for 10 minutes and rinsed with clean water.

Do not use abrasives, chemical solvents, kerosene or gasoline for cleaning. To clean the emitter, do not use hard or sharp objects; when cleaning the device, avoid getting water inside.

Before storing the device, you should clean it, wipe all parts dry and dry the removable filter well.

Our measurements

The device performance we measured depending on the mode is presented in the following table:

ModeMinimumAverageMaximum
Power, W14,219,426,4
Water consumption, ml/h123225316

The noise level we measured was 36.2 dB. The device is quite quiet, and the noise it produces does not depend on the selected operating mode.

The weight of the device without water is 1245 g.

The maximum volume of the water tank was 4.645 liters - slightly less than the 5 liters declared by the manufacturer.

When turned off, the Polaris PUH 8105 TF humidifier consumes 0.5 W.

Practice tests

To test the device, we chose a room with an area of 17 m² with a ceiling height of 2.5 m, with the central heating battery turned on. Since the temperature outside the window was above zero and the humidity was high (winter is still in no hurry to arrive in St. Petersburg this year), the windows of the room were closed. To minimize fluctuations in temperature and humidity and eliminate the influence of external factors on the measurement results, the room doors were also closed.

The humidifier was placed in the center of the room on the floor. The air flow was directed in the direction opposite to the measuring equipment. The thermometer and hygrometer were placed at a height of 1.2 m above the floor.

Practice test #1. Studying operating modes

In this test, we turned on the device sequentially in the minimum, medium and maximum steam generation modes, for two hours in each mode, taking measurements every hour. The measurement results are in the table.

Air temperature, °CRelative humidity, %
Before turning on21,636,4
Minimum mode, 1 hour21,141,7
Minimum mode, 2 hours21,144,7
Medium mode, 1 hour21,050,2
Medium mode, 2 hours21,053,8
Maximum mode, 1 hour21,056,4
Maximum mode, 2 hours20,958,9

The humidifier works quite effectively even in the minimum mode, demonstrating good performance in the maximum mode. During the entire test, the device consumed 1350 ml of water.

Result: excellent.

Practice test #2. Maximum operating mode

In this test we were interested in how effective the humidifier is at maximum power when operating for a long time. The device was left for 12 hours in an already humidified room and turned on at maximum operating mode.

Air temperature, °CRelative humidity, %
Before turning on20,857,8
Maximum mode, 12 hours21,276,8

In half a day, the humidifier brought the relative humidity in the room to almost 77%, using 3790 ml of water (316 ml/h). By the end of the test, there was still about 850 ml of water left in the device’s tank—a working reserve of more than two hours. Quite a worthy result.

Result: excellent.

conclusions

The Polaris PUH 8105 TF ultrasonic humidifier turned out to be a simple and intuitive device - with a minimum of settings and control functions, a reasonable price and good performance. It is quite enough to normalize the humidity in a small or even medium-sized apartment, and the capacity of the water tank will allow you to leave the device unattended for a long time.
