Relatively recently, the concept of No Frost did not exist at all among craftsmen and consumers. But since the late 90s, units with such a defrosting system have become firmly established in our everyday life. Of course, they are not without their shortcomings, but their most important advantage is durability, and I think the increased noise and weathering of products can be somehow survived. The most important problem that exists in No Frost refrigerators is the failure of the freezer evaporator defrosting system; usually the heating element burns or the defrost sensor breaks.

Replacing the defrost sensor is not a problem, the main thing is to know what resistance it has and how to get to it. As for the heating element, everything is much more complicated here and this is connected not so much with replacing it, but with finding just such a heating element. At the moment, manufacturers produce a very large number of models and it is very difficult for a simple consumer who decided to change the defrost heating element with his own hands to understand the modifications of this spare part. Few people know that despite the fact that refrigerator models are Samsung or LG, etc. with the No Frost system, a large number are produced, only a few types of heating elements are installed on them, that is, in most cases they are interchangeable, and the difference between them is only that their wires are connected differently. The fact is that if the air duct to the refrigerator compartment is not frozen, then this behavior is quite possible; in general, this happens in some models. Again, you need to get to the freezer and look at the ice on the evaporator

If the freezer is working normally, but the air temperature in the refrigerator compartment is constantly rising, you need to look for faults in the main parts of the system.

The thermostat has failed

You need to check the serviceability of the thermostat if the Atlant refrigerator has stopped freezing and the following symptoms appear:

  • long engine operation, no rest periods;
  • freezing of a thick layer of ice on the walls of the freezer;
  • spontaneous shutdown of the refrigerator, after which the device no longer turns on.

If the Atlant refrigerator does not freeze, you need to do the following:

  • disconnect the device from the network by removing the plug from the socket;
  • remove products and removable parts, leave the doors open for at least 12 hours;
  • turn on the device and move the thermostat knob to the maximum freezing position;
  • place a thermometer capable of recording low temperatures in the middle part of the main chamber;
  • leave the refrigerator running empty for several hours;
  • take out a thermometer and evaluate the readings (if the device shows too high a temperature, the temperature sensor must be removed from the housing, disconnected from the wires and replaced with a new one).

Refrigerant leak

Freon begins to be released into the surrounding space due to the appearance of holes in the walls of the cooling system tubes. The most common cause of a breakdown due to which the refrigerator does not freeze is damage to parts when manually removing ice. Oxidation of the metal, accompanied by the formation of rust, also contributes to the appearance of holes.

When the amount of refrigerant decreases, the operation of the compartment located at the greatest distance from the compressor is disrupted. If the freezer or main compartment does not work, you will have to seal the holes and replace the refrigerant. To perform the work you will need special equipment.

The sealing rubber is worn out

If the upper chamber of the Atlant refrigerator does not freeze, and the compressor is working properly, you need to pay attention to the condition of the sealing gasket. When the rubber wears out, warm air enters the chamber, causing the device to increase its cooling power. Sometimes ice prevents the door from closing properly, which is why the refrigerator does not freeze. Replacing the seal or repairing it helps solve the problem. The gap can be repaired with glue. The dried rubber is dismantled, soaked in boiling water and returned to its place.

The drain hole is clogged

The problems are similar to those described, but it must be taken into account that each chamber has its own refrigeration circuit with the indicated elements. A malfunction in one compartment does not in any way affect the operation of the second.

What you can do yourself

Trivial problems cannot be ruled out. Options that you can fix yourself:

  • check the settings for erroneous high/low temperatures. Often the upper chamber in the refrigerator does not freeze precisely because of incorrect settings, especially if the product is new and just connected;
  • two-compressor models have the option of separately turning off the chambers - perhaps one of them is accidentally deactivated;
  • a one-time failure is possible - you need to defrost and start the unit again;
  • skewed doors, incorrect position of hinges: from wear, when overhanging. It is necessary to check and bring these elements into the correct position (tighten bolts, fastenings, etc.);
  • distortion and breakage may occur due to incorrect adjustment of the legs - despite its apparent insignificance, this factor is extremely important, as it affects the entire system. It causes not only a loose fit and leakage of cold, but also incorrect movement of flows, refrigerant, and rattling;
  • In most cases, you can replace the seal yourself by purchasing it at a specialty store.

Typical malfunctions of individual models

Household refrigerators from each manufacturer have their own weaknesses, which are associated with the original engineering features. This is also typical for two-chamber units from Atlant. Breakdowns can occur both in older models produced under the Minsk brand and in new units:

  1. Models МХМ (130, 152, 161) – significant freezing of the rear wall of the freezer box. The problem is related to the design and placement of the chamber evaporator. To eliminate it, you need to conduct a detailed diagnosis of the circulation system, eliminate the identified defect, replace the dryer filter and refill the refrigerator.
  2. MХМ models (260, 2706, 2712) – capillary tube clogged. In the event of such a breakdown, the freezer compartment operates normally, but the refrigeration compartment has no or insufficient cooling. To clear the blockage, you need to blow out the capillary tube. Carrying out the procedure yourself requires skills, so it’s easier to call a specialist.
  3. MXM models (1704, 1717, 1741, 6024) equipped with two compressors - in these refrigerators, a common problem is refrigerant leakage through the circuit system and in the foamed part of the box. A characteristic feature of the problem is the operation of the compressor in normal mode when the compartment temperature is violated. Troubleshooting requires connecting a mounted evaporator to the system in the refrigeration compartment.

The complexity of breakdowns is largely tied to the engineering design of the refrigerator - if there is only one compressor in a single compartment or in a divided refrigerator, then the circulation system is common and temperature regulation is carried out in a combined way.
