Home House and cottage Repair
Almost every family has a television, and some of them have two or more televisions. Each person has it for one purpose or another, but most often it is needed for a pleasant time with loved ones, and is very popular among friends. Modern youth are not even interested in watching any regular channels on it, because they prefer to watch their TV series on it from the Internet or watch various videos on YouTube; modern TVs are also widely used for various games on XBOX.
Since the TV can be mounted in any part of the room, its position is determined according to the individual preferences of the person who wants to place his brand new TV in a place convenient for him. This place is selected for each interior separately.
No one has yet come up with restrictions on the specific location and fixation of the TV on the wall, so it can be hung absolutely anywhere in the room. But they consider it a rule to hang modern televisions at a level of at least 1 meter from the floor, and also so that the tap is at eye level.
To fix your TV, you can call a specialist in this service or fix it yourself. In order to do this yourself, you need to have basic knowledge of precise measurements, as well as know how to attach screws to the wall. Hanging a TV is not a hard job and can be completed in a couple of hours. You shouldn’t do this yourself, because it will be better if someone supports the TV while attaching it to the bracket.
Preparing for installation - 3 main rules
In order to properly hang a TV, you must adhere to three main rules:
- Study the characteristics of the equipment in detail. Directly to install any type of TV, you need to know its diagonal, weight and type of TV. This information must be in the documentation of the purchased equipment. If your device weighs more than 25 kilograms, then installation must be done by two people.
- We determine the type of wall on which the equipment will be installed. It is usually made of wood, brick, concrete or made of plasterboard. At the same time, the selection of tools, brackets, fasteners and fittings that will be needed directly for installation is made.
- Find out the location of the electrical wiring on this wall. This will help us better hide wires and cables, and also not disturb the overall electrical wiring system.
How to attach a bracket to drywall
Placing the bracket on drywall
Drywall compared to brick or concrete has much lower load-bearing capacity. Therefore, the question of how to attach a television bracket to drywall requires separate consideration.
To ensure the TV is securely installed, you will need butterfly dowels. Such dowels have special spikes that provide reliable adhesion to drywall and prevent rotation during operation. It is recommended to buy metal dowels that can withstand loads of up to 35 kg. Standard plastic components are most often not reliable enough.
Televisions weighing up to 15 kg on plasterboard can be fixed using crocodile or Hartmut dowels.
Long hardware also helps secure any heavy structure. In this case, the element passes through the drywall and is fixed into the wall behind it. But this method is only suitable for load-bearing walls and solid partitions. False walls do not have a solid foundation.
In some cases, during the installation of walls, embedded or metal profiles directly behind the plasterboard in the area where the panel is planned to be installed.
The main advantages and disadvantages of a wall-mounted TV
Let's start with the good, namely the advantages. Manufacturers of modern TVs help us with this. They are working to make our TV screen as compact as possible. This allows us to save space, which will make our interior more spacious. And the flat screen will be the highlight of our interior; it will perfectly decorate the wall, and absolutely, it doesn’t matter whether your interior has a retro style or a modern one.
Also, an additional advantage is that modern equipment is more resistant to mechanical damage. Therefore, if your TV falls on the floor, there are many chances that it will remain in working order.
Now we can talk about the shortcomings.
There are 3 main disadvantages of a wall-mounted TV (during installation):
- If it falls, for example due to a loose bracket, your TV may fall completely out of position.
- Hanging a TV on the wall is more difficult than simply placing it on a table or cabinet, so you will need the help of another person, especially if the entire diagonal of the TV is quite large.
- It is strictly prohibited to mount a TV weighing more than 35 kilograms on weak walls (plasterboard), as well as above heating devices.
Despite the disadvantages of a wall-mounted TV, it is very popular and quite easy to install if you follow the basic rules for its installation.
What to hang the TV on
Hanging must be done on a mount pre-installed in the wall. Before this, a fastener is screwed to the TV and hung on the wall system.
The best way to mount your TV is with a factory-made bracket.
The wrong choice of bracket can result in structural failure.
If you don’t have the money for a factory bracket, you can always make the mount yourself and hang a “flat” TV without a bracket. A list of simple methods is provided in one of the paragraphs of the article.
By the way, if the TV is a picture tube, then a shelf bracket is required for installation. The structure is mounted only on the wall. And the TV itself is placed on a shelf and secured with a strap for safety.
The installation method does not depend on the brand of equipment. It will be possible to attach TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony Bravia, Philips, Sharp, Xiaomi, Dexp and other various brands.
Types of fasteners
Wall mount, the same bracket, is a special mount that is used to mount a modern TV to a selected wall. There are 4 types of fasteners in total, their main difference is that each of them can adjust the position of the screen in its own way, thereby increasing the comfort of watching TV.
Before you buy a bracket, you need to be sure that it will fit your TV model. To do this, you need to ask what standard the bracket is and compare it with the standard for mounting our modern TV.
Let's take a look at 4 famous wall fasteners.
Rigid fastener
A rigid low-profile mount is a mount that attaches your TV 10-20 centimeters from the wall. The rigid fastener does not have an adjustment function, that is, after installation, with its help we will not be able to turn or tilt the TV. For this type of mounting, we recommend hanging your TV at head level for ease of viewing various programs and TV series.
The advantages of this type are low price, safety, and ease of installation.
The disadvantages include several factors. There is no position adjustment, as well as difficult access to the TV connectors that are located behind it.
Inclined fastener
With this mount, you can change the angle of your TV, install it at your eye level, thereby adding to the comfort of watching TV. The distance from the wall to the bracket is up to 15 centimeters. The angle of inclination varies between different brackets, but generally it is in the range of 10-25 degrees.
The advantages of this type are its affordable price, simplicity of design, and most importantly, it allows you to adjust the tilt of your TV.
The only disadvantage of this type is the lack of rotation of the TV.
Swivel fastener
This mount is unique because it can be used to move, rotate or tilt the TV as you see fit. This bracket is quite expensive, but it is worth it. Yes, it has restrictions on the size and weight of your TV, this can be found in the documentation of a specific bracket model, but we are confident that you can choose a good and fairly productive bracket at an inexpensive price.
The advantages include ease of use and beautiful appearance.
The disadvantages include the expensive cost of the bracket, as well as the difficulty in installing this fastener.
Ceiling fastener
This mount is quite popular in various offices and establishments, as it is convenient to provide advertising to visitors and colleagues. It allows the TV to rotate 360 degrees and also allows the screen to tilt. To use them you must have high ceilings.
I think everything is clear about the advantages, but the disadvantages include difficulty in installation, as well as in supplying the cable, which, most likely, will be easier to run under the ceiling than to the floor.
How to choose the right bracket
The range of brackets for mounting flat-panel monitors to the wall is very diverse. Among them there are both universal ones, suitable for models from different manufacturers, and special ones, developed for a specific brand.
When purchasing, you should also pay attention to the method of fixing the TV, the recommended maximum load and the equipment of the selected bracket.
Fixation method
Different types of brackets differ from each other in the ability to adjust and change the position of the television device relative to the wall.
- Fixed fasteners are the simplest, most reliable and inexpensive. It has no moving elements, so it holds the panel in a plane parallel to the wall and does not allow it to be moved in any way. This can be inconvenient if viewers decide to change their “dislocation” while watching or if bright light from a window falls on the screen at a certain time of day.
Fixing bracket - Inclined fasteners allow you to change the angle of the monitor within certain limits, usually not exceeding 20 degrees in either direction from the vertical. Used when the TV is placed high or in the bedroom: if you want to watch it lying down or sitting, you just need to slightly adjust the tilt.
Tilt Mount - Rotary and tilt-rotate fasteners are significantly more expensive than previous models, but are more functional. With its help, the monitor can easily rotate as desired and in any plane, turning left and right and tilting up and down.
The mounting panel of the bracket rotates in all directions - The retractable bracket is the most expensive and bulky, but also the most functional, since in addition to changing the angle of the screen and its rotation, it allows you to change the distance from the wall. This can be very convenient when the TV needs to be installed in the kitchen, in a large room or between adjacent rooms.
This design will ensure comfortable viewing from any part of the room.
On a note! For those who value the mobility of the device, floor and table stands with holders for a TV monitor and hidden cable routing have been developed.

Equipment
When choosing fasteners, you should make sure that the main and additional elements included in the composition correspond to the configuration declared by the manufacturer. The cheapest brackets are the standard configuration, which in addition to the product itself includes only hardware for installation in the wall. But they may not be suitable for the walls in your home, and this must be clarified immediately in order to purchase the right ones.
More expensive models can be equipped with:
- necessary tool (screwdriver, hex wrench, etc.);
- decorative boxes for hidden laying of wires and cables;
- various holders and shelves for additional accessories;
- remote control for contactless adjustment of the screen position - tilt angle, rotation.
Motorized TV Mount
Maximum permissible load
When purchasing a mount, you must be provided with a product passport and a warranty card. The passport must indicate the permissible load on the bracket, which cannot be exceeded. And if the product has movable joints, then it is recommended to reduce it by at least 10% if the bracket is made by a reputable manufacturer, and by 15-20% if it comes from China.
Another point that requires close attention is the quality of workmanship, the absence of bent parts, chips, unpainted areas and other defects. The presence of which indicates a lack of control over the quality of products.
Limitation of mounting a TV on a wall without using a bracket
We list these restrictions in the following list:
- It is allowed to install only thin TVs such as LCD, LED and Plazma
- On your TV, all connectors should be exclusively on the sides
- The installation height should be no more than 1.5 meters;
- After installation, it is very difficult to move the TV;
- The opposite wall must be covered.
If you are going on a wall that is based on brick, then you can safely proceed with installation. But here we will give you some useful tips:
- The TV should be hung so that it is at eye level, naturally, when you are in a sitting position.
- The distance from the TV to your eyes should be equal to the diagonal of the TV multiplied by 3.
- There is no need to calculate the length of the bolts, since each set with the TV comes with bolts of a certain length. They should be used.
- On the opposite side, it is necessary to mount a plate (iron) about 5 cm higher and wider beyond the distance between the holes when mounting on the back of the TV.
Choosing a place on the wall for the television panel
To choose the optimal location of the “plasma”, you need to take into account its size, area and purpose of the room, and the strength of the walls.
Distance to monitor
This is one of the most important parameters for proper installation, affecting the comfort of watching TV shows and eye strain. The distance of a person from a television picture depends on the diagonal of the screen:
- 2.5 meters – with a diagonal of 32 inches (80 cm);
- 3 meters - with a diagonal of 40 inches (100 cm);
- 4 meters – with a diagonal of 55 inches (138 cm) or more.
Therefore, you should not buy a TV that is too large for a small room, since it will not be possible to provide the necessary distance, and watching it will be uncomfortable.
Here the distance clearly does not correspond to the width of the screen
Height above floor
To prevent your eyes and neck from getting tired during a long TV session, an imaginary horizontal line dividing the screen into two equal parts should be slightly above eye level. It is clear that people have different heights, but absolute accuracy is not required here. But you need to consider in what position they will watch TV. And this depends on the room in which it is installed.
- Living room . This room usually contains a relaxation area for the whole family with upholstered furniture. It is best to hang the TV on the wall opposite this area at a height corresponding to the seat height of a person in a chair or on a sofa. Usually it is 120 cm with slight deviations in one direction or another.
- Bedroom . In this room they watch TV while lying or half-sitting in bed. To determine the level of installation of the monitor that is most comfortable for your favorite position, you need to accept it by hanging a picture or other improvised screen on the opposite wall. Then move it up or down until you find the most comfortable position.
Advice! If the bedroom is small, it is better to fix the panel higher so that it does not interfere with free movement, but provide for the possibility of changing its inclination relative to the vertical plane. This can be done using a special bracket.
This position of the screen cannot be considered comfortable - it is better to hang it higher and tilt it forward
- Kitchen . This is the most difficult place to install a TV comfortably. As a rule, it is placed opposite the dining area, but ideally it should also be visible from the desktop. It is not always possible to combine this, especially if you take into account the specifics of the kitchen with a large number of cabinets and household appliances. The monitor should not be placed near an oven, steamer or other devices that heat up and produce steam. It should not interfere with free movement or opening cabinets. Therefore, most often it is suspended at a decent height - and here again you cannot do without mechanisms that allow you to change the position of the screen.
In the kitchen you have to sacrifice comfort for safety.
Note! A TV is an electrical device that heats up when in use. Therefore, it cannot be placed in a small niche or in a tight space between furniture elements - this will interfere with normal ventilation and natural cooling, and will lead to rapid failure of the equipment.

How to hang a TV on the wall - step-by-step hanging instructions
To make it easier for you to navigate the installation, we have provided step-by-step instructions for it. Now you can easily carry out installation.
Step 1. First, you need to choose the height of the TV. In order to do this, we sit down at the TV viewing point and select the most convenient viewing area for vision.
Step 2. You should mark the proposed TV diagram on the wall. For this we need a building level, a tape measure and a pencil. We look at our mount and mark points on the wall (as in the photo below). Don’t forget to check the horizontality of the holes that we will have; if there is even a slight distortion, this could threaten to cause the TV to fall. Therefore, we take this matter seriously.
Step 3: For this step we will need a drill. We will use it to drill holes at the indicated points.
Step 4. Using a hammer, drive the dowels into the holes, then carefully fix the brackets on the wall. Be careful with plasterboard walls, only take on this task when you are sure that your plasterboard will support your device.
Step 5. After installing the bracket, prepare the TV. Carefully insert it into the guides or tighten the bolts without much effort.
Step 6. Connect the TV to the power supply and start watching. We advise you to hide all the wires in a plastic cable so that the interior of your room is in perfect order and there are no wires in it. We can move the sockets behind the screen, using this method we will hide our wires
Now you are familiar with the instructions for mounting the TV on the wall. Watch the video to complete the entire sequence and learn a couple of nuances.
Before attaching the plate to the wall, you need to find out what material the wall is. If it is plasterboard or wood, we use special dowels, and if it is a concrete wall, then it is necessary to use dowels directly for the concrete.
Bracket Mounting
Most fasteners are detachable and consist of two elements. One of them is mounted on the back of the TV, and the second is fixed on the wall. After which they are joined using grooves or other types of connections, which differ depending on the type of structure and manufacturer. Therefore, before starting installation, you should carefully read the instructions.
Designation of mounting holes for the inclined model of the universal bracket
As you can see, universal brackets have not one, but a series of holes or an elongated mounting groove, thanks to which they can be adjusted to different models of television devices, sliding and sliding along the guides.
Installation involves performing several sequential operations.
- Fastening the outer part of the product to the rear panel of the device with the bolts included in the kit.
Mounting points on the rear panel - Monitor position markings. A horizontal line is marked on the wall corresponding to the top edge of the monitor. The correctness of its application must be controlled by the level.
Diagram for determining the height of the monitor - Marking the position of the bracket on the wall. The mating part of the product is applied to the part already installed on the TV and the distance from it to the top edge of the monitor is measured. Lay this distance down on the wall from the horizontal markings, drawing a second horizontal line.
Before setting the marks, the position of the plate is checked again with a level - Marking of attachment points. The mounting plate is applied along the bottom markings to the wall and marks are made on it with a pencil through the mounting holes.
Marks are placed with a pen or pencil - Drilling holes. Mounting holes are drilled at the designated points. The choice of drilling tool and fasteners depends on the wall material - a separate chapter will be devoted to this.
Preparing mounting holes in the wall
Advice! When drilling holes, you can keep the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner turned on nearby so that construction debris does not spill onto the floor.
- Attaching the wall part of the bracket. Dowels are inserted into the drilled holes if the wall material requires it, then the bracket is installed in place and secured with screws or other fasteners.
Installing the bracket on the wall - TV panel installation. After checking the strength of the fastening of the wall part of the bracket, the mating part with the TV is hung on it, after which the device is connected to the network.

FAQ
In this section we will talk to you about the questions that people ask when they are planning to hang a TV on the wall. These questions, as well as the answers to them, are very useful for those people who are going to mount their TV on the wall.
What diagonal size is most suitable for mounting a TV on a wall?
Most people think about it and are going to buy plasmas for the floor of the wall, but before you do this, you should know whether the parameters of the room will allow you to place such large screens that your health will not deteriorate. After all, you can still buy a TV with a large diagonal, but we must think about our health.
A distance that is comfortable for vision is equal to 3-4 screen diagonals. In other words, if you have a 40-inch screen, then you should watch it from at least 3 meters away. Since 120 inches is approximately equal to 3 meters.
Many TV fans dream of a large plasma on half the wall. Buying such a TV is not difficult, but before you do it, check to what extent the parameters of your room will allow you to watch such a monitor without harm to your health.
Quite a lot of people do not take this rule into account, and thereby spoil their eyesight, and in a very short time. We ask you not to repeat their mistakes and adhere to this rule.
Mounting to walls made of different materials
Even the most reliable bracket will not hold the TV on the wall if the wall itself is not strong enough. Before starting installation, you need to find out what it is made of and how firmly it can hold the fasteners.
To concrete and solid brick
Walls made of monolithic concrete and solid brick are the most reliable foundation. The holes in them are drilled with a hammer drill, and dowel-nails or anchor bolts are used as fasteners.
Fastening to a concrete wall
To the tree
This is the most trouble-free material for hanging any equipment, provided the wood is sufficiently thick and of good quality. The brackets are attached to wooden walls with ordinary self-tapping screws, the size of which will ensure that the calculated weight of the device is retained.
For foam blocks and hollow bricks
Wall materials with voids and cavities are not able to withstand heavy loads - they crumble from the applied vertical forces. To ensure reliable installation of the bracket with the TV mounted on it, you need to use special screw dowels with an elongated spacer and wide threads or chemical anchors.
Before installing a chemical anchor, the cavity is filled with quick-hardening compounds
Video - Installation of chemical anchor
To drywall
The method of attaching to drywall depends on the weight of the TV and whether there is a solid foundation underneath the drywall trim. This is a rather fragile material, so installation of any suspended structures on it requires preliminary preparation and the use of special fasteners.
The first method can only be used for installing small monitors on the wall, the weight of which, together with the bracket, does not exceed 10-15 kg. To do this, you will need butterfly dowels, which, when a self-tapping screw is screwed into them, open from the back side of the skin, increasing the area of contact of the fastener to the plane and distributing the load on it.
Butterfly dowel - special fastener for drywall
If the monitor is large and heavy, choose a different mounting method - using long hardware that can pass through the drywall and go deep into the load-bearing wall or partition made of durable materials located behind it. In this case, the type of fastener is selected in accordance with the material of these walls.
Fastening with a long pin through plasterboard sheathing
The described method cannot be applied to plasterboard partitions and false walls, since there is no solid foundation behind them. Therefore, when constructing them, the installation of the TV is planned in advance by installing wooden mortgages at the required level or securing additional metal profiles to the frame.
Installation diagram of a plywood embedding platform
If such mortgages were not provided during the renovation, the TV will have to be installed on a cabinet or purchased a floor bracket-stand.

What should be the height between the floor and the TV?
The height is determined only by where you will place your TV, the main thing is that it is comfortable for you to watch it. It won’t be convenient for you to lift your head and watch TV from under your forehead. For example, if you are going to hang your TV in the kitchen, then in principle you can hang it from the ceiling, but on the sofa it will most likely be uncomfortable to look at the ceiling in the evenings.
In fact, there are no standards, so there is no reason. Sit in the place where you want to watch TV and choose a place for the TV on the wall.
About brackets
Before hanging the TV on the wall with a bracket, you need to choose the most suitable mount. There are several types of brackets on the market:
- fixed;
- inclined;
- tilt-rotary.
The latter is divided into three subtypes: regular, with one or two knees. They can be with an electric drive, which is controlled from a remote control.
Separately, it is worth highlighting the ceiling brackets. In some cases they will be an excellent alternative to wall-mounted ones.
What to consider when choosing
- TV diagonal. The mounting characteristics always indicate the range of diagonals that are suitable for hanging. The parameter is approximate and not so important (why, described in the next paragraph).
- Maximum load (TV weight). You need to pay more attention to the parameter than to the diagonal size. The reason is that TVs of the same diagonals can have different weights. For example, the bracket can support a weight of 20 kg, the maximum permissible diagonal is 32 inches. The first TV weighs 15 kg and has a diagonal of 32 inches. The second TV is large (50 inches) and has the same weight (15 kg). Therefore, the bracket can easily support the weight of a second LCD TV. But it is important that the distance between the bolt holes on the TV and the bracket are the same. As a rule, the larger the television receiver, the greater the distance between the holes.
- VESA standard. The previously mentioned vertical and horizontal distance between the holes for screwing in the bolts on the television receiver.
Most brackets have many different hole variations. This makes them universal within their characteristics. But sometimes brackets are sold that are suitable only for a specific distance, for example, 200x200. - Bracket type. Depends on the installation location of the television receiver and the need for full rotation of the equipment along different axes.
Conclusion: you must first focus on weight, then on VESA dimensions. The diagonal does not play a special role if the first two characteristics are met.
Don't forget about the type of bracket. In which cases which mount to use is discussed in more detail in the table.
Mounting type | Description |
Fixed | This is the simplest bracket. It is needed in most cases if you need to hang the TV on the wall, and viewing will be done from one direction (bed, sofa) forward. The TV is leaned against the wall as much as possible. This allows you to save space in the room. With a fixed bracket, it is important to maintain the correct installation height. In short, when viewing, your eye level should coincide with the center of the TV screen. The downside is poor access to the rear panel of the TV's connectors. If you are connecting an antenna cable, you will most likely need to use an angled adapter to make the connection. |
Inclined | Allows you to tilt the TV up and down at an angle of up to 15° in each direction. Required if the TV cannot be installed at the correct level. For example, a television receiver is installed above the fireplace. Then, with a level position, watching TV shows will be uncomfortable. It is necessary to tilt the equipment slightly downwards. This is where the tilt bracket helps. The principle of tilt adjustment depends on the design of the mount. So, you can rotate without removing the TV from the bracket. The tilt is carried out through the rotation of the axis in the bracket device.
|
Pan-tilt without elbow | Allows you to change the location by approximately 15° in both planes - vertical and horizontal. It is worth using when you need to slightly rotate the TV from left to right. Useful if the sofa or table (for example, in the kitchen) is not directly in front of the TV. Takes up less space than brackets with elbows. |
Tilt-and-swivel with one elbow | With such a bracket, you can move the TV forward and significantly change its horizontal position. The main movement is performed through the rotation of the knee. At the second end of the knee there is a rotating mechanism that makes it possible to tilt the television apparatus. |
Tilt-and-turn with two knees | An improved version of the single-arm bracket. The second one is attached to the end of the first bend. Therefore, rotation is available in several places. This makes it possible to move the device forward even more. It may even be possible to turn the TV in the opposite direction. The design is useful if you need to watch TV in different places within the same room. For example, the living room is combined with a kitchen. First you sit in the kitchen, and then on the sofa at the other end of the room. A radical change in viewing location requires a significant change in the location of the TV receiver. If the TV needs to be hung in a corner, then a two-arm bracket is used. With it, it is easiest to adjust the position of the television equipment relative to both walls. |
Ceiling | Often used as a design solution. For example, if you need to place the TV in the center of a room where there is no wall. Useful if the wall is made of fragile material (porous brick, gypsum sheets), and there is no guarantee that the surface will not collapse under the weight of the device. |
Let's conclude which bracket is needed depending on the room:
- bedroom - regular fixed without tilting or turning;
- the hall is also fixed, provided that the correct installation height can be maintained; if a high fireplace is in the way (for example), the TV is hung above the normal level on an inclined mount;
- kitchen - regular tilt-and-turn or with one elbow;
- large room with a studio layout - single-knee, or better yet, double-knee;
- ceiling - if fixation is needed away from the wall or in case of fragility of the material from which the wall is made (plasterboard, fragile brick).
Additionally, think about whether in the future you will buy equipment with an increased diagonal. Then select a bracket with the ability to accommodate different-sized TVs. A simple design is shown below. TV mounts can move horizontally. And vertically there are many holes on the fasteners.
Where is the best place to hide cables and wires from the TV?
This question is quite popular, especially for those people who have already hung their TV on the wall. And it is much more difficult for them to hide the wires than for those who were interested in this issue at the beginning of mounting the TV on the wall.
So, if you are currently renovating, then you need to arrange sockets directly for the TV. This will require 1 TV socket and at least 3 sockets behind the screen. We will connect the TV, Wi-Fi, and also the tuner to these sockets. The best method is to hide all these sockets directly behind the TV, this is very convenient and very popular.
But if there is a cabinet under your TV that will have other equipment, then it is better to take care and make a couple more sockets in advance, even behind the same cabinet.
We recommend placing about 5 sockets at a distance of 30 centimeters from the floor, and even if you think that you won’t need them, you are deeply mistaken. After all, now technology is developing very quickly, and no one knows what else they will come up with for the TV in 3 years, but sockets will always be needed, and you won’t need to use carriers. After all, carrying items reduces the beauty of any interior.
If the repair has already been done, then the best way would be to hide all the wires in a box cable and connect it beautifully to the TV so that it does not bother anyone, and is especially not conspicuous. An excellent way out of the situation would be if you design this cable box to match the style of your wall. After all, it is on it that he can hang quite unnoticed; in other words, it can be called a camouflaged box.
But if your TV is located near a window, then the best way to hide the wires is to use curtains with an electric curtain rod. Make a socket right under the ceiling, near the place where the curtain will be. And this will be a great discreet method to hide your wires. You can ask a curtain specialist or an electrician for more details.
Pros and cons of wall installation
All flat-panel TV models come with stands for installation on a flat surface. They are made in the form of supports, secured with screws on the back of the panel body or inserted into special grooves. This is very convenient for those who are replacing old equipment with new ones: you don’t need to think about where to put the purchase, just screw the legs to it and install it in place of the old “box”.
But most owners of flat panels prefer to mount them to the wall, since this installation method provides many advantages, especially relevant for small spaces.
- Saving space - no need to take up space with a TV stand.
- Saving money - a standard hanging mechanism (bracket) costs less than the same cabinet.
- Convenience of using the TV due to placement at a comfortable height and anywhere in the room.
- Safety of operation - the absence of unnecessary furniture that you can trip over or hit, as well as hanging wires that are hidden in grooves, boxes or behind the panel itself.
On a note! Maximum comfort and safety of using the device is ensured by a pre-planned layout of equipment and power outlets.
Having thought in advance about the placement of the TV, you can hide the cables in a special niche.
The wall installation method also has disadvantages. First of all, this is the inability to move equipment to another place without the need to mask holes in the wall left by fasteners. The second drawback is the lack of a horizontal plane for installing a game console, Wi-Fi receiver and other gadgets connected to the TV. For them, you will have to consider the possibility of mounting a shelf next to the TV.

How to hang a TV on the wall - 5 best tips from professionals
We advise you to familiarize yourself with this section; after reading it, you will learn how to make sure that your equipment serves you for a very long time. And also how to prevent the TV from falling off the wall. Be sure to keep these tips in mind when mounting your TV on the wall:
- Before purchasing a bracket, you need to check the weight and diagonal that it can support.
- Although the swivel mount is very popular and convenient, we advise you to use only a fixed mount. After all, only with it you can be as sure as possible that your TV will not fall to the floor.
- Recently, it has become very popular to install a TV in a plaster niche. But be careful, because air circulation, which will heat up and over time overheat the case, can become an expensive failure. Therefore, be extremely careful with this type of installation.
- A good method for securing your TV is a small homemade stand made from drywall. It can be done in a short time, but in turn, safety will increase significantly. We kindly ask you not to place the screen over the fireplace or other types of heat release. The TV is negatively affected by the radiated heat and may quickly malfunction. And the saddest thing is that no one will return your money for this, because this is stated in the documentation of every modern TV.
- Before connecting cables from the TV, securely mount the TV to the wall. Only then start connecting the wires. And keep in mind that if you have a rotating bracket, then you must make sure that there is enough wire to rotate the screen; there should be no tension at all. The distance from the viewing area directly to the screen should be from 3 to 4 diagonal sizes. Namely from 2 to 4 meters.
In fact, hanging a TV on the wall is a responsible undertaking. You just need to make a little effort and the TV will look worthy in your interior and will also perfectly decorate your wall.
After reading the article, you have learned how to properly hang a TV on the wall, we wish you success!
How to hang without a bracket
Installation without using a bracket is also possible. Methods for creating a homemade mount are limited only by your imagination. Be sure to take into account the weight of the device.
Furniture "ears"
The simplest option if you need to hang a panel without a bracket. Mounts for wall cabinets are used.
- Wall mounts are screwed to the top pair of holes in the housing.
- Two holes are made in the wall at the required distance along the level and dowels are installed. The screws are tightened, but not completely. The caps of the elements should be visible.
- The TV is hung.
Advantages and disadvantages
The TV fits as closely as possible to the wall, which saves space.
Installing a TV is as easy as possible.
Very close to the wall, which interferes with ventilation. The ventilation holes are located on the back of the case. This means that there will be no provision for the normal release of hot air during operation of the equipment. Over time, this may cause the TV to malfunction.
Access to the interface panel is completely blocked. You won't be able to connect any external cable.
You can avoid the disadvantages if you place a board between the screw heads and the wall. So, the distance will increase, ventilation will improve, and access to the connectors will appear.
It is also recommended to use the lower fasteners. It is better to screw bolts into them to make a stop against the wall. Otherwise, the TV may wobble at the slightest touch. And this can lead to severe damage to the plastic case.
Steel or aluminum corners
You will need four corners. The length of the elements must be greater than the vertical distance between the TV mounting brackets. The method requires precision execution. It is necessary to maintain the distances between the holes.
- Two holes are made on each side of the corners. One pair must contain holes to screw the TV panel and for fixing with the second pair on the wall. Another pair is mounted on the wall, dowels and screws are also used.
- First, it is better to tightly screw the corners to the television receiver. Next, measure the distance between the sides protruding forward. This is necessary to know at what distance the protruding sides on the wall should be. The measured values will help you accurately mark the surface. Where the corners point (inward or outward) is not so important. In the example below, the corners are facing outwards. It is more important that the distance between the wall and TV corners be consistent.
- Attach the second pair of metal corners to the attached pair on the panel. Make marks through the holes for the holes on the second pair and drill them.
- Markings are made on the wall. A level is required. Take into account the previously measured distance (see point 2).
- The wall is drilled and the spacer dowels are forgotten. The coals are secured with screws through both holes.
- The corners are connected with bolts or long nails with a large head. In the latter case, the nails must be bent on both sides. It is better to use bolts, as with nails the fastening will be a little wobbly.
Furniture corners
It is a popular and very cheap way. You need to spend no more than 100-150 rubles on all the necessary parts.
You can use narrow or wide corners. The principle of hanging does not differ for different types of corners. You will also need two bolts and nuts. The diameter of the bolts must fit the holes in the corners.
Here's what the process looks like for single corners.

Installation process for multi-hole corners:
- The corners are screwed to the upper mounting holes. The horizontal side should be at the top.
- At the same distance, similar corners are attached to the wall. The protrusion can be either at the top or at the bottom. Additional central angle of slightly longer length. He props up the body and tilts the screen down.
- The bolts are screwed in at both corners and hanging is carried out.
Screwing can be done on the TV or wall corners. In the first case, the ends of the bolts without a head should point down. Then the bolts are inserted into the holes on the wall corners.
In the second case, the bolts are attached to the corners of the wall so that the pin faces up (see image above). It is hung in the same way - the bolts must go into the holes in the mounting angles on the body of the television equipment.
If the lower fastenings are missing, then under the influence of its own weight the television receiver will tilt down. In order for the position to be strictly vertical, it is necessary to fix similar corners to the bottom of the device. Then the corners will rest against the wall and there will be complete verticality. Instead of corners, you can use regular bolts.
A good alternative for wall mounting on the wall is a sliding angle.
On one side of the part there is a solid long hole. This allows you to level out possible errors during marking.
With a regular angle, you need clear markings, down to the millimeter.
With a sliding element, even a significant error will not affect the fastening, since there is a power reserve.
Sliding supports for rafters
It is a part of two elements:
- the fastening itself;
- a hook through which another structure is fixed.
The support must be secured to the base. It is better to fix it through a backing – a wooden block. This ensures normal ventilation and access to inputs for external connections.
The fastening corner is bent so that only the hook remains. Next, it is attached to the TV receiver.
Finally, the hook is placed on the wall element, after which the TV will hang securely.
From below, by analogy with furniture connecting and wall corners, to maintain verticality, you need to screw in the selections (bolts). The element will rest against the base of the wall and prevent it from tilting.
Swivel mount
To create an adjustable mount, you need to be able to weld metal, have a profile pipe and two metal plates. Of course, you will also need bolts with washers and nuts. The plates are taken slightly larger than the area of the TV mounting part.
This method can only be used by people with skills.
- First, holes are made in both plates. The holes on one of the plates must exactly match the fasteners on the TV frame.
- Next, the profile pipe is cut. You need to cut 4 pieces. The two parts are made short to be welded to the plates. The remaining two are needed to extend and rotate the TV. You can calculate the length yourself. Sizes depend on need. If it is necessary to extend and strongly unfold the television receiver, then the pipes are made longer.
- Through holes are made at each end of the pipe, including short parts. All parts are connected to each other with bolts. There is no need to tighten it tightly, as there should be quite easy rotation.
- Then you need to hang the TV on the wall using standard technology (see the paragraph about the instructions above).
The final mount looks like this.
There are a lot of mounting options. Above are some easy ways that anyone can do.
Homemade TV brackets
A TV bracket can not only be purchased, but also made from scrap materials. You will get a kind of holder, which, however, will fulfill its main task - to securely hold the equipment on the wall. For this you will need:
- Wooden block.
- Metal furniture tire.
- Anchor window plates.
How to hang a TV on such a bracket? First, the block is attached to the wall using self-tapping screws. Holes are made in the right place on the furniture rail using a drill. Then it is fixed to the block. The block is needed to maintain a ventilation gap between the wall and the TV. Anchor plates are screwed to the back of the TV. If necessary, their length is shortened using an angle grinder or metal scissors. Then the TV is simply threaded onto a furniture rail; the hooks of the anchor plate serve as fastenings.
The other method is almost similar, but the only materials you will need are:
- Wooden slats slightly longer than the width of the screen.
- Self-tapping screws with a ring.
- Dowels.
The planks are bolted to the equipment horizontally. If the top one is thicker, this will additionally allow you to create a small angle of inclination. Self-tapping screws are attached approximately above the bolts (with a slight indentation) on both strips. The rings should face up. On the wall you need to mark the location of the rings, then drill holes and drive in dowels. After this, the screen is simply hung on the wall, clinging to the dowels with rings. A TV hung in this way will be easy to remove if necessary.
This option is suitable for models with a diagonal of up to 26 inches.
You can make brackets of more complex shapes that will not be inferior to those purchased. The design of the tilt-rotary shape will require the following materials:
- Durable metal plates – 2 pieces.
- Corners – 4 pieces.
- Square profile pipe 20x20 mm.
- Fasteners.
Two corners need to be attached to each plate, after which a pipe is connected to them using a long bolt. The corners are attached parallel to the floor to the plate, which is intended for fastening to the wall. They serve as the basis for the turning mechanism towards the sides. The other two, on the contrary, are installed perpendicularly, and are designed to move the panel vertically - they are installed on the rear panel of the equipment.
How to make a bracket with your own hands
A simple fixed bracket for a TV is quite possible to make with your own hands. We present you several options for homemade brackets.
Fixed mounting rail bracket
To make it you will need:
- Rail for attaching wall kitchen cabinets
- Drill.
- Dowels.
- Screws.
- Bolts.
- Roulette.
- Level.
- Hacksaw for metal.
- Screwdriver.
Mounting rail
Sequence of work:
- Measure the length of the rail along the holes in the TV and cut it to the desired size.
- If the factory holes on the rail do not match the holes on the TV, then drill additional ones.
- According to the dimensions of the already made rail, cut a second one for mounting on the wall.
- Attach the first rail to the TV by screwing it in place.
- Make markings on the wall for the holes for the dowel screws.
- Drill holes with a drill or hammer drill.
- Install the rail on the wall.
- Insert the bar located on the TV into the groove of the rail installed on the wall.
For a more reliable mounting of the TV, you can additionally install a second pair of slats.
Budget bracket made of wooden planks
It is worth mentioning right away that this type of mount is designed only for small TVs. To make a wooden bracket you need to find:
- A wooden plank with a cross section of 3-10 centimeters.
- Hanging hooks – 4 pieces.
- Self-tapping screws with a ring-shaped head – 4 pieces.
- Bolts for attaching the bar to the TV – 4 pieces.
- Hacksaw.
- Drill.
- Roulette.
- Pencil.
Sequence of work:
- Cut the strip into two lengths along the length of the TV.
- Tighten two screws with a ring head from the end of the planks. Do not place the screws too close to the edge of the TV, otherwise the slats may crack.
- Drill holes in the slats and install them on the TV.
- Make marks on the wall according to the location of the rings on the slats.
- Drill holes according to the marks and screw in the hanging hooks.
- Mount the TV on the wall by inserting the rings into the hooks.
Bracket made of wooden planks
If you want the TV to have a downward slope, then make the bottom bar 1-1.5 centimeters thinner than the top.
The process of installing the bracket on walls of various designs
Once the appropriate bracket is selected, decide on the type of fasteners depending on the wall structure.
Concrete or brick wall
The most reliable and durable will be fastening to concrete or brick.
To mount your TV on a brick or concrete wall you will need:
- propylene or steel dowels;
- self-tapping screws of a certain thickness and length.
The thickness of the screw in millimeters must be equal to the first digit of the screen diagonal length and be at least 4 mm. For example, for a TV with a diagonal of 80 inches, the screw should be no thinner than 8 mm.
The length of the screw is also calculated in millimeters in accordance with the diagonal of the screen, but not in inches, but in centimeters. In this case, 30 mm is added for a brick wall, and 10 mm for a concrete wall. For example, the diagonal length of the device is 40 cm, which means the self-tapping screw for a concrete wall should be 50 mm long, and for a brick wall – 70 mm. Please note that the thickness of the wall finishes is not taken into account.
foam wall
Due to the porosity of the material, it will not be possible to install a TV in a wall made of foam blocks using ordinary dowels or self-tapping screws. To attach the screen to the wall you will need to buy special devices. These include:
- steel dowels with a studded structure;
- Nema nails, which are driven into the surface at a certain angle;
- frame dowels designed for through installation;
- spiral nails that are screwed into the wall without destroying the structure;
- nylon anchors;
- chemical anchors with special glue poured into the cavity.
The scheme of actions does not differ from the method of installation to a brick or concrete wall.
Plasterboard base
If the weight of your TV model does not reach 30 kg, it can be attached to a plasterboard wall without additional reinforcement. Before installing a device weighing more than 30 kg, the wall should be reinforced with an additional sheet of plywood more than 10 mm thick. An alternative to this installation is to attach it to an internal metal profile.
The best option would be to determine the location of the screen before the repair, then before installing the wall you can install the metal profile in the right place. If the wall is already ready, you will have to select the mounting location in accordance with the location of the profile, which can be found in the wall using a magnet.
Please note that in order to hang the device on a gypsum board wall, you should buy “butterfly” or “snail” dowels.
If you are unsure of the reliability of the wall, do not take risks and use additional reinforcement.
Advantages and disadvantages of hanging a TV on the wall
If after purchasing you cannot decide where to place the TV, then think about the advantages of hanging it on the wall.
- Aesthetics. A flat modern TV on the wall will decorate any interior. It won't look out of place in almost any room decor style, and in some cases can set the tone for the entire room.
- Availability. If there is no suitable furniture in the room where the TV will be located, then purchasing a bracket will cost significantly less than a cabinet.
- Safety. If there are animals or children in the apartment, then it will be much more difficult for them to throw off a TV screwed to the wall than one standing on a cabinet or table.
Like any solution, there are disadvantages to hanging your TV on the wall.
- Placing a TV on a cabinet or table is much easier than hanging it on a wall. In the second case, you will need a tool and skill to work with it.
- Not any wall will do - it must be free of heating equipment.
- If it is decided to dismantle the TV, the mounting holes will have to be sealed.
