How the problem manifests itself
Freezing interferes with viewing and can manifest itself as follows:
- the picture falls apart. Squares of the wrong color appear on the screen, the contours of figures bifurcate, when changing frames, a piece of the picture may remain from the previous scene;
- The sound disappears when the image is working;
- A black screen appears when the audio signal is normal;
- there is no sound, no picture. Sometimes a message appears from the digital tuner: “No signal.”
Is the picture on your TV falling apart?
One specific channel, a group of them (multiplex) or the entire received range can be inhibited.
The freeze is due to the digital signal transmission technology itself. If you don’t go into depth, it is transmitted like this: information is divided into small portions and “shot” with electromagnetic pulses into the air or cable. The packets are encoded and protected, but for some reason they may be distorted during transmission so that they are either not reproduced at all, or the digital tuner interprets them unsuccessfully.

It can be a shame when a newly purchased TV starts to show poorly. Especially if there are a lot of channels, but in the end there is nothing to watch. In such cases they usually shrug their shoulders in bewilderment. A person cannot explain to himself why this happens? After all, in the store the picture was colorful, sharp, and contrasting. And no interference.
For those who have mastered at least the basics of electrical engineering, we remind you that it is important that the active elements of your antenna distribution, especially the amplifier, have a linear response. Thus, to amplify the same signal across a frequency band. The wiring must be sufficiently resistant to interference from electrical appliances. However, a cell phone can also be disrupted during a call. In any case, we recommend that you check the reception conditions and antenna function by antenna specialists.
In this case, switching to digital reception is possible in two ways. In the first case, the signal with all the software multiplexing is reduced to individual bytes, and their owners receive their own set-top box or digital television. Or the broadcast is received in one common set-top box, which converts the digital signal to analog. Then he divorces the entire building. The disadvantage of this procedure is that viewers lose EPG services, multi-channel audio and other services.
At such moments we begin to complain about those who are supposed to provide us with the picture. And such reproaches may be fair. Sometimes problems in the cable network are related to problems on the satellite from which the signal is received. There may also be some problems at the headend. And if the image of individual channels begins to freeze, slow down or crumble into squares, then call the support service.
However, in any case, the special antenna must be modified by experts. He wanted to cry with Geris, but he would most likely spill his lips: “Now, babo rap.” A year later, James Fergason discovered the so-called non-static effect. Displays that operate on this principle use polarized light and flow of liquid crystals in an electric field using an induced voltage.
Test results show that actual response times are around 10ms. Plus, you can easily see for yourself. However, before you move on to the actual purchase, you should ask a few questions. Each of these questions also corresponds to certain parameters.
You can't fix such a bad picture yourself. Need help from specialists.
It happens that a weak signal reaches the TV. And most likely, the problem is in the connection to the TV trunk or cable system that is located in your home. You need to call specialists. We only recommend that you first check all possible breaks, kinks and damage to the cable, the condition and quality of the connection of the antenna plug.
This differentiation plays a role in tracking comfort. In the store, try out the TV you think you're going to buy. In some films you'll try to figure out how the TV reacts in dark scenes - if you have noticeable detail, then with fast action you'll see how long it takes to slow down, whether the TV handles fast action without blurring the image.
In an animated film, observe the colors and how the TV transitions pastel shots. Don't be afraid to ask to switch to a TV broadcast rather than just one program. Make sure your TV looks like paint on the skin, what are the colors, brightness, brightness, etc. also check the color of the image - it doesn't have to be a jumpy look, but a smooth and detailed look.
However, there are times when a bad picture on a TV is the fault of the person sitting in front of the screen. The subscriber simply does not comply with the requirements for house wiring. And then various problems are possible.
Channels may not show well because the signal level at the TV input is below the minimum required. To fix the problem, replace the old or thin cable that runs in your apartment, or install an additional home amplifier.
Even if this is not the case, the TV is suitable for convenient viewing. If you have the option, dial a mobile stand that can be used to rotate your TV. The most optimal viewing angle for a TV is always straight. You should also try to figure out how and how he will appear on TV by you or your body from below. Image anxiety can be very uncomfortable.
However, since there was no digital age, it would be better to choose a TV that can receive both analogue and digital broadcasts. Make the TV sound so distinctive - it generally says the higher the better. The contrast ratio is static and dynamic - they especially look at the value of the static ratio, which means that the higher the better.
However, there may also be problems in the main line, which cannot be eliminated without specialists. It happens that the same channels are shown well in the morning, but poorly in the evening. The reason for the bad picture is quite possibly because an old TV is running somewhere nearby and is causing interference to the distribution system. But this can only be determined by a specialist.
Require a minimum tuner for analog and terrestrial digital broadcasts. For these features, we recommend that you have a TV tuner. For higher-end TVs, you can also automatically adjust picture brightness to suit ambient lighting, streamlined video, the ability to pre-set a preset picture character, and more.
Require them, especially if you are working with a VCR. If you connect multiple signal sources to your TV, this will give you the ability to individually specify inputs in the menu. These moments are very inconvenient because they constantly shine - if they appear in the corner of the screen, it's not such a big tragedy, but if they are in the middle of the picture, they have the ability to completely ruin your enjoyment.
If, for example, the TV3 channel shows poorly, but the Sports channel shows quite satisfactorily, then it is quite possible that somewhere in the cable there is a break in the central core or braid. This usually happens in the subscriber’s apartment. The same problem can occur due to a broken RF connector on the TV. The cause may also be poor contact in the channel selector.
And one more thing. A floating cross or a picture of a different channel means that incorrect amplifier settings are interfering. Interference occurs due to sudden changes in ambient temperature.

You can do without some things, but their absence causes some discomfort. The case when the TV shows poorly is an excellent confirmation of this. Constant interference is very annoying, so I want to get rid of it as quickly as possible and get a clear, beautiful picture.
Antenna and cable problems
If the TV worked fine all the time, and then the picture deteriorated greatly, then a reasonable question arises: why did this happen? To answer it you need:
Check all connections; check the condition of the cable, it may be pinched or broken; make sure that the settings are not lost.
If the TV catches on the antenna, then you need to see if any trouble has happened to it. After strong wind, hail or snowfall, the antenna may change position, tilt, break, or a heavy object may fall on it. If you have an individual antenna, you need to check the reduction cable. It must be inspected visually and ringed using...

If the TV shows poorly from the antenna, then there are only two reasons. This is an inconsistency between all devices, or bad equipment. The latter usually concerns the antenna, since all television receivers cope with their tasks in one way or another. However, the problem may also lie in the amplifier. It must at least be tuned to the desired frequency. Below we will look at typical situations and methods for solving them using the simplest methods.
Cable problems
As funny as it sounds, the first thing you should do is check the cable. There are several requirements that must be met:
Firstly, the characteristic impedance of the television cable must be 75 ohms. If it is more or less, then part of the power will be reflected in the path, which will inevitably lead to losses. There are matching methods, using which it is possible to use a cable with a different characteristic impedance. But it’s better not to fence the garden. All devices designed to work with…

Progress does not stand still, and now a TV in every home is not at all uncommon. This unit for reproducing images and sound was invented back in the 20th century. Today, watching the evening news or your favorite TV series is a nice thing.
However, it doesn't always work out the way we want. It would seem that just yesterday the TV showed great, but today strange noise and spots appeared on the screen. What happened and why the TV doesn’t show well, now we’ll figure it out.
Of course, it will be possible to understand only in general terms and in words, but the essence of the problem will be captured and considered. The main reason for the poor performance of the TV in terms of image quality lies in the operation of the kinescope. It breaks in most cases due to its old age. But not only this can damage the TV. A poor image may be broadcast due to a poor or weak signal. In such a case, your TV has nothing to do with it, and you need to contact support. There is one…

Why does the TV show poorly and can this lead to other problems? Sharing our experience
How long has your TV been bad? Immediately after purchase, or did the malfunction occur recently (and everything was fine before)? This and other information will allow you to quickly fix the breakdown and forget about it forever.
The TV may show poorly because:
There is a weak signal. The TV can pick up only a couple of TV channels and may not always adequately receive the TV signal, or may not find a single channel at all. In this case, you can connect an amplifier to the antenna, and the problem will disappear. The antenna position is broken. During installation, it is fixed in such a way as to receive all signals, but a sharp gust of wind can turn it, tilt it, or even tear it away from the fasteners. If possible, secure it yourself, and if not, contact a specialist. One of the parts/boards/blocks has broken. The power supply, matrix, kinescope or other parts may fail, serviceability...

This small adventure began when one of my relatives I knew asked me to quickly look at “what was wrong with the antenna” in the apartment and run another cable to the second TV. Well, dear old ladies feel bad without TV, of course! In principle, I suspected that the easiest way would be to properly rewire the antenna wiring throughout the apartment with a new cable to replace the old rotten RK-75, but I still didn’t know what I would have to face.
The “order” itself began with the fact that I climbed onto the mezzanine to see how the cable was being inserted into the apartment and found brooms there. A whole pack of 5 pieces.
ABOUT! And you have some brooms lying around here, and a lot of them!.. - Yes? That's it! I didn’t even know! This was left over from my late husband – and that’s what I was going to buy.
In general, I had never been paid with brooms until yesterday :) So, I looked around the apartment, made a list of materials, measured the length of the cable and went shopping. The wiring itself is stupidly simple - the middle one is nailed along the baseboards on the brackets...

Why do plasma and LSD (LCD) display poorly on an analog signal?
It’s probably no secret that plasma panels, LCDs (LCDs) and LCDs transmit signals received in analog format very poorly. That is, if you connect such devices to a regular antenna or to analog cable television, the picture will be terrible. A large amount of noise and a “smeared” picture are not impressive when watching your favorite programs. A TV with a CRT (kinescope) has a resolution of 625 lines, and LCD and plasma have 1080 lines, and when transmitting a digital signal there is no inter-frame or inter-line noise. In analogue television, transmission occurs in half-frames with interlaced scanning, which was the result of a compromise between the need, on the one hand, to reduce the frequency band, on the other hand...

Watching TV is one of the universal hobbies of people of all ages. Every family has a TV, and not always just one. Many have already managed to exchange old CRT models for more modern TVs. But both new and old TVs are not immune to breakdowns. Let's look at situations why the TV doesn't show.
Type of TV and cause of failure
At this point in time, TVs are divided into different types of image output. These are old - CRT, more modern - plasma TVs, LCD TVs and the newest models - with LED backlighting. The reason why the TV screen does not show depends on the type of TV you have. For example, if you own a CRT TV, then most likely the CRT is out of order. If you are the owner of a plasma TV, then the plasma inside the TV has faded; in LCDs, the pixels most often fail, as well as the screen backlight. More accurate information can be obtained from…

I don’t know where this came from, but where did the opinion come from that to receive terrestrial digital channels, a good antenna is not needed at all and the quality of the received signal does not matter, they say (the channels) should be caught always and anywhere
In fact, good and reliable reception of channels even very much depends on the location of your antenna, on its quality, correct installation location and visibility of the TV tower, without meeting these conditions, you and I will not get the desired result, except as in the picture below
What to do if your TV shows few T2 channels: it does not receive all 32 digital channels, but, say, only 24, 16 or 8, what are the parameters and frequencies of the digital channels? To be honest, this wording of the question is not entirely correct, I brought it up only because these are the questions I began to be asked more and more

Advantages of digital TV
Digital television is a modern alternative to standard analog TV. With this technology, image quality becomes significantly better at the same cost. The essence of this technology is that television signals are a sequence of digital combinations of electrical impulses. Digital technologies provide new opportunities for transmitting and receiving data.
Digital television has its advantages. For example, mobility. There is no longer any need to run wires and cables; all you need is a TV, an antenna, a digital receiver and a power outlet. This is an autonomous system that you can take with you, for example, to the country and watch TV programs with the same high-quality signal as in the city. In addition, digital TV has a large number of broadcast channels, and you can also access the Internet, TV guide, etc.
Possible causes of interference
A digital signal is usually...

Possible causes and their elimination
External factors
The most likely explanation for a TV with a digital set-top box freezing is the effect of external factors.
These include:
- weather. The earth's atmosphere is transparent to satellite signals. However, during heavy clouds and thunderstorms, signals from satellites may be distorted. The same applies to terrestrial TV transmitted from a repeater;
- technical problems on the transmitting side;
- scheduled maintenance work at the station - manifests itself as a complete disappearance of the signal.
How to check external factors
Diagnosis of external causes is carried out as follows:
- if the malfunction is caused by a breakdown of the repeater or a failure at the transmitting station, it makes sense to ask neighbors who use the same type of television if they have problems;
- click on the channels. If some are caught well and others are not, then the problems are definitely external. But at the same time, the channels must be of the same type;
- wait for the weather to change. If reception improves, then rain or cloudiness is to blame.
What to do if external problems are detected?
- If the weather interferes with television reception, you should more accurately adjust the antenna to the repeater or satellite. This will help achieve a slight increase in the received signal power.
- If the settings do not have an effect, you should consider purchasing a signal amplifier or a more sensitive digital tuner.
- If there is still no effect, you should think about changing the operator (for example, switch to cable TV or buy a satellite dish with a decoder).
In general, external problems are among the most common and difficult to solve: it is impossible to change the weather or repair transmission equipment yourself.

Hardware problems
Also, the reason why the image freezes on a particular TV may be a malfunction or poor configuration of the user’s equipment.
Here the problems can be of the following types:
- with antenna;
- with coaxial cable;
- with attachment;
- with connection to TV;
- with TV receiver.
The most common antenna problems:
- Wrong type. To receive digital TV, you need one that operates in the UHF range, and not in the HF range, as for analogue broadcasting.
- Incorrect orientation. Almost all UHF television antennas are very sensitive to direction. The pins or loops of the resonators must be across the wave, and the central rod, accordingly, is very precisely aimed at the repeater. If we are talking about a satellite parabolic antenna, then ideally its axis should point clearly at a specific satellite with a deviation of no more than a degree.
- The antenna is obscured by an obstacle. Hills, permanent buildings, iron roofs - all this interferes with signal reception.
Antenna cable problems:
- The resistance is too high and, as a result, the signal attenuates.
- Parasitic interference. In this case, the cable begins to act as an additional antenna that receives the wrong channel, and as a result, chaos reigns in the output signal.
- The cable is broken or its contact with the antenna is broken.
- The plug is broken and the connection to the decoder or TV is poor (if the built-in tuner is used).
Problems with the console:
- The channel settings are lost. This often happens during an emergency shutdown (for example, if the set-top box was deprived of power not normally, but simply by cutting off the electricity;
- Software is outdated. This applies more to satellite receivers;
- The attachment is out of order.
Problems with the cable connecting the external tuner and the TV:
- the wire is too long and, as a result, has excessive resistance;
- The cable is not connected correctly (for example, the plug carrying the audio is not plugged in).
TV problems:
- settings are lost;
- a breakdown occurred.
How to check all hardware problems
Since there are many types of equipment failures, there is no single solution. But there are a number of steps that will help you figure out why the freeze appeared and fix it.
Attention: some steps require skills and additional equipment.
So what should you do?
- The best TV antennas for a summer residence with an amplifier for 2021
- Change the direction of the antenna, accurately aligning it with the satellite or repeater. You can find out the exact bearing for a given point using the CETV map.
- Check the antenna type and replace it if necessary.
- If an obstacle interferes with reception, move the antenna to another location, raising it as high as possible. You can understand that this is exactly the case simply by looking in the direction where the antenna is facing: UHF waves propagate in the line of sight zone.
- If the problem is that the signal is too weak, connect an amplifier. You can check the reception level using a tuner (in most modern devices, scales of signal strength and quality are available in the settings) or with a multimeter.
- If the problem is the cable resistance, it should be replaced with another brand with a copper core and a maximum shielding factor. The situation with parasitic interference is also resolved.
- The integrity of the cable is determined by “ringing” it with a multimeter. If a break is detected, the entire wire is replaced.
- Loss of contact with the antenna or breakage of the plug is determined visually. In this case, you just need to replace the “plug”.
- The broadcast standard with which the set-top box works can be checked with the seller or on the manufacturer’s website. If the equipment is not compatible with DVB, it needs to be changed.
- Outdated software for satellite TV can be updated by leaving the receiver turned on on the service channel or using another method recommended by the provider company. We also recommend that you reflash it by downloading the update from the official website and following the instructions there.
- Checking the connection of the set-top box to the TV. If there are several outputs (for example, through “>Euro-AV and “>RCA”), you can try another option.
- Lost tuner settings can be corrected by searching for channels again in automatic or manual mode.
- If the problem is equipment failure, you should contact a repair shop. The average user will not be able to repair a TV or set-top box.
If nothing helps, you need to call a specialist and resolve the issue with him.
How to boost your antenna signal
- Completely change the device. Especially if a homemade structure is connected. So in many cases it is possible to solve the problem with a poor TV signal. If you are going to buy a new decimeter antenna, immediately buy one with a built-in amplifier. When television is tuned through a set-top box, you don’t have to buy an external power supply for the amplifier. The digital set-top box itself can supply power via a coaxial cable. If the receiver is not used, then do not forget about the power supply unit, otherwise the system will not work (the TV does not power the coaxial wire).
- Adjust the T2 antenna, reinstall it in a new location, or simply change the direction.
- Connect the antenna amplifier. If you do not want to change the receiving device, you can enhance the operation of the device by connecting an external amplifier. Amplifiers vary in design and operating principle. The only thing worth knowing for now is that they will connect to the TV cable already inside the apartment or house. There are combined amplifiers, for example, with a built-in power supply, with several outputs for connecting multiple television receivers. Or use a regular mortise amplifier. The use of an amplifier can be a decisive element in strengthening the antenna signal.
- Diagnostics (external inspection and detailed check) of the television circuit. You need to inspect all kinds of line elements, from the antenna to the jack on the TV or external tuner. Inspect the cable connection to the antenna, other connection points, adapters, plugs, splitters. Also check the cable visually to see if there is any severe damage to the outer sheath, kinks or crushing by heavy, and even more so, sharp objects or furniture. If in doubt, remake the connections.
- Check the characteristic impedance of the cable with a multimeter, the value should be 75 Ohms. If the resistance is completely different, it is better to lay a new cable.
- Carefully consider the layout of the cable to the television receiver. Try to reduce the length as much as possible. Even a couple of meters of cable sometimes affect the overall quality of the television.
We need to talk in more detail about setting up the TV antenna and the amplifier. It is these two points that almost always help set digital TV images to the next level. Recommendations and instructions will help not only with working with an external (outdoor, outdoor) antenna. It will also be possible to strengthen the signal of an indoor antenna at home.
To avoid buying an amplifier (if a passive design works), it is better to first check the correct placement of the receiver. And if necessary, change the installation location and direction.
What other difficulties are there with setting up?
Problem | Solution |
No signal | Clean the antenna. Snow, dust, dirt often stick to it, and fallen leaves also stick to the parabolic antennas. |
Poor picture and/or sound | Check that the TV receiver matches the signal quality. Even not very old TVs may not be able to play high-quality programs with multi-channel sound and HD images (plasma especially suffers from the latter). The problem can be solved by setting the receiver to a lower quality or replacing the TV. |
Channels are not caught or only part of them is received | Check to see if there is any signal in this area. For terrestrial television, check this on the RTRS map. Perhaps there is no broadcast at the receiving point yet. |
Previously received channels disappeared | Check the frequencies and TVCs on the RTRS map - they may have changed. If so, perform a manual search again. |
TV has actually become an essential element of a modern apartment. This device should not only fit harmoniously into the interior, but also create a high-quality image of the received transmission. Sometimes it happens that the TV shows poorly. The easiest way to solve this problem is to call a teleworker, but not everyone can afford it, and you have to wait for a specialist to arrive.
In most cases, the problem of poor image can be solved on your own with a minimal understanding of signal transmission processes. The following is a description of several simple procedures, the full or partial implementation of which allows you to achieve a high-quality image with a 90% probability.
All the actions described below do not require the use of measuring instruments and are based on two main actions:
- comparing existing wiring with a known good line.
- identifying an internal fault by visually inspecting the entire line from the antenna output to the television input.
After this, the appropriate repairs are carried out.
TV breakdown
If the image on the screen has sharply deteriorated and switching channels does not change the situation in any way, then most likely the receiver or converter has failed. These parts cannot be repaired, so they will need to be replaced to solve the problem. If the device is under warranty, such repairs must be made free of charge.
It is worth noting that such cases occur mainly with fairly old TVs. And, of course, most of these problems can be solved. So if the TV shows poorly, you now know what to do.
Short circuit in plug connectors
The signal on the way from the antenna output to the TV can pass through several connectors: at the antenna output, at the installation sites of splitters, at the point of increasing the length using a coaxial feed-through adapter, Figure 1. If the cable part of the detachable connector is installed carelessly, the braided wiring may touch the central core, which immediately leads to a drop in signal level and unstable image reception.
Figure 1. Option for coaxial feed-through adapter
This malfunction is detected by visual inspection of all detachable connections in the path.
Video: How to connect the antenna cable to the plug
There is another common source of interference - mobile base stations operating in the 450-900 megahertz range, located next to the TV repeater.
The problem when the TV does not pick up digital channels well due to interference is solved by using a narrowly directional antenna such as a wave channel, “shooting” a beam of the radiation pattern exactly at the TV repeater. Also, depending on the source of interference, specialized filters are used, which are placed directly behind the antenna, but in front of the amplifier. For LTE 450 frequency - a low-pass filter, for LTE 800 and 900 together with GSM 900 - a high-pass filter.
The distance to the repeater is too large and does not correspond to the height and power of your antenna
When the distance to the repeater is over 25 kilometers, it makes sense to use a highly efficient antenna with a built-in amplifier. The total gain of such a system can reach 30 decibels or more. To realize the potential of the amplifier, you must achieve a good signal-to-noise ratio - raise the equipment to the highest possible height.
Other factors that affect signal strength may include air humidity, precipitation, and tree foliage. If the quality of the television picture changes from day to day, try changing the antenna system to a more powerful one. The most obvious way to catch digital TV is to install an external Wave Channel antenna with side reflectors.
Cable jam
Another reason for a short circuit is a “kink” in the cable, as a result of which the central core pushes through the insulation and reaches the braid. It can appear either as a result of careless installation, or during operation as a result of excessively strong bending. The consequences of clamping a door, a chair, etc. are very similar.
- TOP-5. The best indoor antennas for digital television. Rating 2021!
Also revealed by inspection. The best way to repair a damaged cable is to replace it with a new one.
Why does digital television show so poorly: unfavorable terrain
The quality of reception depends on the terrain. If the conditions are very unfavorable, then even rising to a high altitude may not produce tangible results in improving the quality of reception.
The slides in front of you will completely block the transmission of the TV transmitter signal. Since the signal at decimeter waves tends to be reflected from the ground and various objects, to improve the quality of reception, sometimes it is not necessary to raise the antenna to a greater height. A high-gain panel antenna or even a homemade one - the most common - Kharchenko .
It also makes sense to experiment with antenna location and polarization (position in space). A typical wave channel antenna has horizontal polarization. So that then it doesn’t become bad to show the installation of a high mast cannot be avoided
In order to preliminary evaluate the properties of the radio path (the difference in height from the transmitter to the receiving antenna of the TV), there are convenient online services. Of the new ones, Linktest is the most convenient for beginners. You can also use the “classic” online service from Micran.
No contact in the plug
Another weak polymer wiring element is the Soviet-made plastic antenna plugs. It also ages, becomes brittle and breaks easily with little force, resulting in loss of contact.
In addition, even an apparently serviceable plug can lose contact with the cable along the core or braid if there is a strong pulling force on it.
In this situation, the old plug should be replaced with a new threaded F-connector, Figure 2. It is simply screwed onto the cable over the braid. The excess central wire is cut off with side cutters.
Figure 2. Threaded F-connector for coaxial cable
Cloudy image on the screen
A cloudy image is caused by a number of reasons, which differ for TVs of different years of manufacture and design.
- A tuner board, line transformer, or a dead cathode ray tube causes the picture to become cloudy in devices with a kinescope.
- When the life of the plasma panel ends, the image quality is also lost.
- Failure of the LED panel or matrix backlight lamp gives the effect of darkening the screen. The latter leads to blurred images in devices with an LCD display. Defects in LCD TVs—poor image clarity and contrast—are caused by the technical characteristics of the matrix. More expensive models have better picture parameters.
Important! Connecting with an HDMI cable gives a more detailed picture than with RCA. In addition, all brands of TV can show dimly if the signal at the receiver input is bad.
Input signal problems
Modern TVs are capable of adjusting and enhancing the picture in many ways. But a weak signal received by an antenna, even after going through all levels of processing - amplifiers, filters, decoders, converters - is still distorted. Part of the image is lost and replaced with noise.
Each television antenna has its own parameters:
- directional pattern;
- bandwidth;
- gain.
For example, when setting up satellite television, the presence and shape of the image is affected by fractions of a degree of the antenna directions in angle and azimuth. Only a specialist can accurately determine the required characteristics of the antenna most suitable for the area and TV model. The average user selects an antenna and components approximately.
TV breakdowns
A TV receiver is a complex technical device. The TV began to show poorly if there were malfunctions in the operation of any of the nodes:
- power supply;
- main board;
- LCD display;
- matrices;
- backlight, etc.
On old TVs, it was often enough to adjust the lamp in the socket or adjust the tuning resistors in the scanner boards. Modern models cannot be tested without instruments. Repairs require special tools. Trying to fix the problem yourself often only makes the problem worse.
High fan-out ratio
To connect several TVs to one antenna, splitters are used, an example of which is shown in Figure 3. Each such device introduces certain losses into the transmission path, too much of which affects the image quality. If you can improve the reception quality by eliminating the splitter from the path and bringing the signal to the TV using the pass-through adapter mentioned above, then you should switch to an active splitter, Figure 4. It differs from its passive counterpart in the presence of a built-in amplifier, which helps solve the problem of low signal level.
Figure 3. Three-output antenna splitter Figure 4. 2-channel active antenna splitter
Good day!
They say that “the best is the enemy of the good...”, and perhaps this is correct. Analogue TV, in general, provided very good broadcast quality even in many remote corners of our country.
Having replaced it with digital (let me remind you that in June/July of this year our whole country begins to switch to it) - many are faced with the fact that the quality of the broadcast has noticeably dropped, and they cannot watch TV as before, because... the image twitches, goes in cubes, the sound stutters, there are some freezes, etc. Moreover, this does not happen somewhere in a remote area, but near large cities (and in them too)!
What is also characteristic: if earlier several channels could be caught quite tolerably (“First”, “Russia” and a number of others), now if the broadcast is interrupted, then you can’t watch any of the TV channels...
In this note, I will give a few recommendations that can help reduce interference and improve broadcast reception (much, of course, depends on your location and the equipment you use).
And so, closer to the topic...

Setting up a TV antenna
The whole setup consists of pointing the structure with its axis towards the signal transmitting station.
General installation recommendations
- If the houses are located parallel to each other, the best place to mount the antenna will be the end of the building or the roof.
- The higher the DVB-T2 receiver is mounted, the greater the chance that nothing will prevent the signal from reaching the antenna.
- It is better not to leave an extra piece of cable outside. Strong gusts of wind can loosen the cable and damage its contact with the antenna or amplifier. Therefore, you need to keep the cable taut, or at least not leave a dangling piece of wire loose.
How to correctly navigate to the signal source
- Open your digital TV card.
- In the “Address or location” field, enter the address where you want to set up the TV antenna. You can only specify a region with a city, but it is better to specify a district with a house number.
- After searching on the map, select the house you are looking for.
- A window with parameters for television broadcasters will appear.
- Using the “Distance” line, select a nearby tower from the two presented.
- The “Direction” line indicates the exact azimuth, and there is an arrow on the right. Based on the readings of the CETV map, with a compass in your hands, orient the antenna axis towards the signal translator.
This is enough to catch the signal at a fairly high level.
But problems may arise when following the instructions and after.
- The nearest tower is located on the back side of the apartment building. Then the antenna will be pointed at the wall. In this case, you need to choose a remote repeater or reinstall the structure on the other side. For example, sometimes they stretch a cable through a neighboring apartment.
- If the area is too densely built up and planted, then even the direct signal will be scattered. Often it is not possible to fit properly (higher or on the lid). Then the solution will be to connect to a collective common house antenna or try to amplify the T2 signal using an electronic amplifier. This will be discussed further.
What to do if digital TV shows poorly, with interference

Check which channels should be broadcast in your region
The quality of reception is greatly influenced by the equipment (TV, antenna, amplifier, etc.), the terrain and the location of the house relative to the broadcast tower. If your house is located in the middle of a forest (relatively speaking) and the TV tower is very far from you, then, alas, you shouldn’t expect good reception (as before)...
In general, to begin with, what I recommend doing is to check on the official website https://rtrs.ru/ which of the digital TV channels are available in your area. Usually these are 2 digital packages RTRS-1 and RTRS-2, which include 20 free channels: First, Russia, Match!, NTV, 5th, TVC, Zvezda, Spas, TV3, TNT, Zvezda, Friday!, Muz- TV, etc. (see screenshot below).
What channels are shown in my area
In addition, on the same site you can view coverage areas and broadcast frequencies specifically for your region. Despite the fact that in June 2021 Almost the entire country should switch to digital broadcasting - there are still corners where this is not the case...

What's with the cable and plug?
The cable has a very strong influence on the transmission of the received signal by the antenna. And for many people, his condition leaves much to be desired, not even the best (but the best
